Hi,
If I root it... would it be possible to move data (obbs) using app2sd (AppMgr Pro) ?
Now I can move app to adopted internal storage (usb key) but no data !! :crying:
Or is there any other option (run from external drive) to increase this stupid 16GB limited space ?
Need it for large files e.g. Doom BFG which's data takes more than 3GB in obbs/.
Does the disabling of Forced Encryption help and is it possible to perform on this device ?
THX for any tip
Adaptive Storage
16gb is a little small for such a good machine. I installed 2 USB (3.0) thumb drives on mine. One as adaptive and the other as removable. The adaptive drive (128gb) combines with the base 16GB for usable 114gb. The shield will install/move applications to the the thumb drive. Have you tried this?

Exactly did.
My adaptive drive is usb2.0 Kingston DataTraveller 16GB.
Adaptive internal storage was made and possibility to move App to Adaptive was used.
But..... data in /obb/ which does take almost 3GB were not moved only App.
So problem with low disk space is not solved at all.
Can not move it manually because adaptive storage is n/a (encrypted).
Probably not. Adoptive storage is combined with main storage. Not treated as 2 drives. Not being rooted, the device locks down moving this kind of data. I see apps installed on the USB part of adoptive storage, so nVidia does separate the 2 forms of internal storage for its own purposes. I see data in obb as being no different as moving apps to SD. Have you posted this on the Geforce forums?
https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/159/shield-tv/
Did you try enable developer options and enable force everything save to the USB? I do that for all my app and nothing save on Shield tv
Edit: the option name is "force allow app on external", at the bottom of developer options

Not yet. I think they want support such ideas like rooting, using app2sd etc.

In storage settings did you select to migrate data to adaptive storage drive?
Menu / Storage & reset / Internal shared storage / Apps / Downloaded Apps / <App> / Storage used / USB Drive.
This will move App not its Data !! Any other option ?

If you did not migrate data to external drive right after you formatted it for adaptive storage you should see an option to migrate the data...
I did migrate the data after format.
Now I got new App installed so its new data has be be moved again.
As I see well - this is possible only if you got root rights.

If you migrate to USB then the data should install on USB directly
I notice that you are using a usb2.0 drive, will it be that problem? As I remember if the drive too slow then it may refuse to work. Dunno if this related to your case
usb2.0 is no problem. Apps moved to usb storage works without visible delay.
the main problem is - user is not allowed to use his own usb adopted storage ? we need to use this adopted storage space for any storage. this is very stupid limitation from Ggle sorry

I have noticed that sometimes not all data is moved. So I migrate data to adaptive drive, reboot, migrate data back to internal drive, reboot and then migrate data back to adaptive drive which seemed to move all data like the large data files for Grand Theft Auto

Cant recall off the top of my head but if you go into Storage & Reset you should see option to migrate data when you check the storage used for each drive.
Even if I clicked on Move Data to Adopted storage and next reboot my ShieldTV 2017.... free space remains the same.
Need to move data from /storage/emulated/0/Android/obb/xxx (and not /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/).
Is this "OBB" not possible to move to adopted storage ??

Found answer on internet. OBB is not moved !! Only Apps and Data.
So if your App does use OBB you are not able to move it to adopted storage (obb can take some GBs so you may soon be out of space even if you got adopted storage) .
Solution is to ROOT and use MountFolder which can move your OBB to e.g. SDcard and then point to it. Another reason why you are "forced" to root your devices.

Hello,
out of interest: I have one Ouya Game (Bards Tale), which occupies about 3GB on my sdcard. I know that i can somehow extent storage and its on my to-do list but i would like to know if i can just copy data from /data/media/Android/data on a usb drive (must it be ext4 FS?) and then just create an appropiate link from /data/media/android/data/com.blafasel -> /mnt/usbdrive/data/com.blafasel?
Would this work?
cheers,
// Tycho
Bard's Tale will install the data to external storage itself, it is possibly the only game that will do that. Unfortunately that requires uninstalling it and reinstalling it with the drive connected. If you are rooted you could use FolderMount to move it without uninstalling. There are many other apps that will do it as well, I use Android Tuner pro.

Hello,
I have a 3 TB external drive (seagate) and the new update from Amazon that allows you to connect via USB . I formatted my drive to Fat32 using a 3rd party Program because windows 8.1 I guess only allows you to format in exFat but I need fat32 right? no matter what though EXfat or Fat32 I only have 299MB of 299MB its not seeing 3TB. does anyone know what I am doing wrong here? Also what can I do to move the app+data to my External HDD say for a games I download from Amazon. the whole point is to be able to move game data thats what the people want....well that and downloaded content. Anyway is there an app that moves data and app or just data without root?
Thanks,

You probably have a hidden partition on the drive. See here for more info: http://www.aftvnews.com/what-to-do-if-the-amazon-fire-tv-only-sees-197mb-of-a-usb-drive/

I did have one thank you! I ended up using a this link here witch tells you how to delete hidden partitions http://www.brighthub.com/computing/hardware/articles/72858.aspx but i would not have known without your help. after that I used this http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm to turn it into Fat32 but the Highest it does is 2TB witch it a lot honestly for fat32.
Now all I need to know is how to move my application data to an external drive to free up space without root???
I have a 2 TB external drive (slim) and the Fire TV formatted it by itself.
Hi
I own a galaxy tab s 10.5 the problem is App size on my device is not appropriate for example total size of Mortal is shown "Total Size=78.82" while I've downloaded more than 1GB . Other games like Gangstar4 and WWE 2K have this issue. when I try to move these games to sd card only a few MB ( e.g. 50MB) is moved and the strange part is also the TOTAL size of app is increased a few MB. why? and how can I solve this issue?
Thanks
It is most likely showing the app size which is tiny compared to data required to play the game.
John.

Thanks for replying. but actually I've downloaded the game data and I can play the game
I'm still discovering some of this myself, but here's what I've concluded so far
Android has a concept of internal data, internal sdcard and external sdcard...
In recent years, since Android 4.0 or even 3.x the internal data and internal sdcard are really sharing the same storage, here the internal 16g, using special Linux disk partitioning trixks
The "move to sdcard" button moves some of the App files (apk) to the *internal* sdcard. NOT to the external sdcard. So in terms of that precious and small internal 16gb, you don't win any at all !!
The only thing you can hope for, is that the app itself is coded to make use of the external sdcard. Theres a folder on the /ExtSdCard which is /Android/data in which each app can make one sub-folder. The sub folder there has the same technical package name as the app.
At this point I would guess that the contents (size) of this folder is not reported by the screen you showed. And that your game data is stored there.
Can you have a look with a file browser?
When moving an app only part of it can be moved, sometimes non. Usually the app can be moved. However essential data required to run the app itself is not moved. Then there is the 'extra' data which is required to play the game itself. Which either gets installed to the internal or external sd card. Sometimes this data can be moved, sometimes not, it depends what the app developer allows.
Think of it like Windows, you can choose where a program gets installed, but the essential stuff will always be installed to the windows partition and cannot be moved.
Really your game data should be showing under data or sd card data.
What you are seeing being moved is probably just the app itself.

What he said, it all one big data partition now, so nothing actually gets moved to the ext sd card. The move to option is from the old days of having one partition for apps and data and another storage. Now data and storage share the same partition, which is good because it allows you to use the entire device storage for apps. That's why we are now stuck with mtp instead of mass storage mode.

In terms of Samsungs implementation, this isn't the case for the app itself. The app is moved to external sd - you can prove this by unmount in your sd card - apps on SD will be greyed out as unavailable.
The real issue is that if an app has large data files that are downloaded after the app is installed usually go to internal sd, Because this is a function of the app itself, and not apps2sd.

Dave

Are you sure this is the case for the Tab S?
I tested this on my first day having the Tab S... When moving apps to SD
- size used internally did not decrease
- size used on external SD did not increase
- I searched for new files on external SD, could not find any.
I'm not rooted, that limits my options to look properly.
I've had apps2sd in my old HTC desire, do I'm not clueless

Positive.
You can see this more clearly with large apps.
For example, I have Word, Excel, and Powerpoint on my Tab S, and around 500MB free.
If I move these to SD, my free internal space goes up to 874MB.
If I unmount my external SD, the apps grey out with a small "SD" icon against them, and can't be used until I remount the SD card.
Hi everyone,
I see connecting USB via OTG to Firestick 4K doesn't allow it to be converted as internal storage unlike other Android devices.
Which is obviously every firestick owner must be looking for to expand the Internal storage.
A humble request to all the Android Developers here.. Could you please find a solution to this?
Thanks in advance
I was able to get it to work by following this tutorial, it allows you to have part of the USB as internet and another part external. Apps seem to run a little slower, but still work fine.
After formatting USB correctly I used the app2sd app
to move apps to adoptable storage, as the firestick doesn't have a migrate option built in.

Can you please provide a step by step guide ?
In apps2sd , when you select a app to move, it just takes you to the firestick --- settings --- manage apps section. There is no option there to move any apps to USB.
Can you link the app you used please ?
Sent you a PM as well.
Thanks[
In app2sd you click on link apps to SD card. Then click on the app you want to move. Then click the menu button in the top right corner, and click move to adoptable, or move to SD, I'm not sure which it was.

Apps2SD is working pretty well for me if I only use the file linking option, not Adoptable stoarage. My device has more room and feels faster than when using adoptable storage. I also don't like that it changes your default install location to external.
*On a rooted firestick 4k, flash this kernel to get f2fs access.
*Backup your files to a computer disk drive.
*Format your USB drive into 2 partitions: 1. Storage (fat32) 2. Extended (f2fs).
**I used Gparted while booted into the FireISO USB drive I made to unlock the bootloader and root the Firestick. You can also do it in Apps2SD but I had trouble with it.
**I made my first partiton 105Gb, and second 10Gb.
*Attach the USB drive to the Firestick and install Apps2SD apk. Open it and go into Settings. Change dev/block option to say "/dev/block/sda" without quotes.
*Back out of settings and go to the top optioin: Link Apps to SD. Then open the icon menu in the Left corner. Choose Recreate Mount Script. Say OK and Yes to all prompts. Wait until the script is successfully created. Reboot.
*Last link some apps to your SD card. I don't suggest system apps or anything that accesses system apps like Titanium Backup. For apps that slow down a lot (your browser), link everything EXCEPT the Data folders. This is often the largest folder, but the performance hit is not worth the space you save.
Hope this helps someone.
does Pretoriano80 kernel work with "Stick Mount" or do I need to remove this ?

With Android 10 (or a 3rd party OS based on it) which I was following this guide for (unable to post link):
install-android-10-on-motorola-moto-g5-lineageos-17-1-how-to-guide
I just wanted to know if it allows you to move apps to external storage, because right now; they install whereever they want, and it seems like most prefer internal storage. I have obviously got an microSD card (a sandisk extreme pro 128GB with 90MB/s write in crystal disk mark). The small internal storage for me is the only issue I have which would be fixed with a way to choose default storage location (there is another issue of it not being clear if the place you want to save a file in on internal or external storage). Also I do have the SD card configured as internal storage.
I just installed an app to record voice calls (automatic call recorder), which has installed on the internal storage. I recorded a message from my three mobile top up but the recording was very difficult to understand even when played back at 70% volume on my PC headphones. I need it because I'm dealing with a company called repairtech.co.uk who told me that the reason they returned my monitor with a cracked screen was because I packed it incorrectly in the provided box (instead of packing material there are some hooks which suspend the monitor in the box with minimal aircushions). Since it was an out of warranty repair, I paid £80 for the evaluation that I needed to fork out for a completely new screen. I only found out about the crack when I overheard a conversation being made on my behalf and checked the box.
I can't do this upgrade right now because I need to have access to my bank account while I try to buy a new GPU which is available from tomorrow.
Edit:
Unlocked bootloader
Fastboot drivers installed on PC
I just tried but could not find a sticky or some such to get these pre-requisites.
Format sd card as internal storage & all data will be stored there
Advantages - more internal storage
Disadvantages - will only work on the device that formatted it as internal. You can't remove it & put it in another device without formatting it. Same for for if you want to change roms potentially.
A fast sd card is also required
Apps can't be "moved" to external storage (from android 5) in the way you are suggesting. Some apps like widgets will even break if you tried
Call recording works - you shouldn't need a 3rd party app on some roms as you can just hit record from the dialer but this is rom dependant.
Try using another dialer that can record or try on lineage mint in the Dev section - you may be using a very old rom if you are following some random guide you found on the net

Will the moto g5 recieve a 3rd party upgrade to Android 11?

You can't "move" apps natively to sd card - it will break many apps
Can't see screenshots as you haven't linked correctly - post full link (put spaces in address if you can't post links)
It is also up to the app where it installs in the Manifest of the app - you may find the apk is installed on internal and the data is on the sdcard
Data will be in the android/data and android/obb folder
When sdcard is formatted as internal you will see the total size of internal storage has increased
If you remove the sdcard you may find some apps will no longer function correctly so you will know its on sdcard
Also you should have selected to transfer data to sdcard when you first format it as internal

Nothing wrong with those screenshots
Unfortunately this is just how android works and your device looks to be functioning correctly
If you are rooted you can use other methods to move apps to sdcard eg link2sd (requires sdcard with a second ext4 partition) but the more apps you symlink to sdcard the slower your phone may become. Make sure you link & not forcefully move as some apps like widgets will not function if forcefully moved and not symlinked to sdcard
Also note I haven't used this app in about 10years so no idea if it still functions on latest versions of android as it hasn't been updated in a few years
You will have to Google other root methods
