Service Menu on custom ROMs? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm looking for solution or clear answer.
Do you know any custom ROM with access to Service Menu (same or similar as on stock ROM)?
I need option to force specific LTE Band, and 3G bands as well. In stock ROM it works realy fine and I can check many things about connection to network.
ARFCN, bandwidth, LAC/TAC, CI, PSC/PCI, neighbours etc.
Any hint which parts of system has influence on service menu ? Firmware, kernel, some APKs ?
I just tried RR-5.8.2 (Nougat 7.1.1 based on LineageOS ) it works realy fast but without this option I must revert back (flash) to stock ROM.
I made few hours reaserch on google and XDA but nothing specific about that.

Custom ROMs don't have the framework needed to have the hidden menu. Plus, it's CUSTOM, so there is no way in hell you can get anything "official" on it. Oh, and plus the fact that the service menu is not just an APK, but it integrates way more than you could even think with the OS, it's "made to size" so to say.

You can use stock based custom ROMs like Fulmix.
Anyways I'm almost certain AOSP had a hidden menu on itself for forcing LTE band and similar controls, try looking for it and see if it has the settings you need.

Thanks for information, yes Fulmics has access to service menu - works fine.
But it is visible slower than new roms 7.1.1 based on lineage and now I can't install ASOP based on Nougat. I tried few times but no success.

Yes stock based ROMs are slower than AOSP ones. Why aren't you able to install Lineage or similar now, you should be able to without problems?
Also there is plenty of hidden service menus in AOSP as well - one of them is *#*#4636#*#* among others.

Three ROMs based on LineageOS works realy fast but as I wrote above it hasn't Service Menu ! Because of that I ask which part of system is responsible for Service Menu. As I understand it is dependent of framework from phone manufacturer, and integration this function between parts of phone system (ROM, modem firmware, kernel, etc.).
Hidden menu isn't interesting at all. I need RF functionalities available only in service menu (*#546368#*855#).
(sorry for my bad english - I'm not native speaker)

There are a lot of RF frequencies in the hidden menu. Have you tried it? What exactly do you need?

In most ROM code 4636 shows information about Phone. I need selection of specific band on 4g / 3g, rat selection. And technical info about connection to bts / nodeB. I wrote it in my first post.

You can select a specific band from the phone information tab and the hidden menu I told you. If you need other options I'm pretty sure there is another menu for that.
If there are connection options AOSP should have them somewhere, as they are necessary for the phone to operate.

[Q] Mobile Data doesn't work with Non-Sense Custom ROMS??

Hello Android Lovers!
So my HTC One X is rooted and I have a Sense 4+ ROM currently installed.
Basically, whenever I have tried to installed a Non-Sense ROM (for e.g. Paranoid Android), everything works fine... Except the Mobile Data! (A VERY BIG Inconvenience! )
Whenever the phone switches on, I don't know if the data just takes long to load, or if it's even working at all, but the 'H+' symbol never seems to show up - this really annoys me, because I really want to stick with a Non-Sense ROM!
Any help for a fix guys?
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:

only really use stock rooted so not really sure about other roms but maybe flash one and check the right apn is ticked in network settings
in the settings, under wireless and networks:
More... => Mobile Networks => Access Point Names => Select your APN
Did you try other custom ROM's as well?
If so, there must be a problem with the APN like tomascus said,
if the problem only exists in this particular ROM, contact the creator or search the forum/web for bug reports or fixes

How to get 5GHz Wi-Fi on AOSP ROMs working.

Hello everyone,
I didn't see a thread for this and I am just sick and tiered of not being able to post in dev threads, I figured I would attempt to make something useful for newer users of using AOSP ROMs.
I noticed that when using AOSP ROMs, the 5GHz band won't work, I can see the network but can not connect to it, and in some ROMs I can get it to take the Key but then says something like disabled and still doesn't work. Crazy thing is this is something that is not unique to this Device (the i317), I had a i777 (Galaxy S2) before that and it did the same exact thing. What is even more crazy is the fix is exactly the same for both phones.
While making this post I am going through a wip and re-install of my ROM (PAC-Man in this case, but does it with all other AOSP ROMS)
Some information befor I start, 5GHz is important to me as I use it at home, the 2.4GHz range in my area is quite crowded and I am the only 5GHz network in the area so it works better for me.
Anyways here we go;
Step 1, Install your ROM like normal, once you're signed in to your Google Account download Root Explorer (or something of equivalence) Once that is done proceed to step 2.
(NOTE: If you already have your ROM installed you can skip Step 1)
Step 2, In Root Explorer go to System --> etc --> wifi, once here you're going to see various files. Were looking for "nvram_net.txt" and "nvram_net.txt-murata".
These are the two files were going to modify.
Step 3, Hold your finger on "nvram_net.txt" until the popup window for Options comes up, hit Open With and then select Text Editor. From here you're going to look for a line of code thats "ccode=GB" this is needing to be changed to "ccode=US". Once that has been changed then hit the back button and hit Yes on the save box. This will automatically make a backup of the original file.
Step 4, Were going to do the same thing to the "nvram_net.txt_murata" so open it with the Text Editor and look for the same line of code "ccode=GB" and change it to "ccode=US", save the file.
Step 5, Reboot your phone and once back up go into settings and you are now able to use your 5GHz network.
I hope this helps someone and I hope that one day we won't have to keep changing these settings to get 5GHz working on AOSP ROMs, have fun Everyone!!!!
PS. If you all want screenshots I can do them but bare in mind I would have to wipe my phone again and take them during the process. The instructions should be clear and easy to follow without them.
Excellent....
Many thanks....this will help several people out I'm sure.
Thank you...g

Thank You!!
I need to add something to it, if you ever update your ROM you need to do it again just start from step two.
Thanks for the post. I'm sure those who need 5ghz support appriciate it.
I just saw this post and checked. The latest CM10.1 for today (20130701 build) has the correct US settings. Not sure about other AOSP. However you should mention it to the devs of each one you find it in so they can fix it.
Holy ****balls. I just have to say that.
I'm using Galaxy S3 i9300, been running Slimbean 4.2.2 build 8 flawlessly when I came across that situation where I can't connect to 5G wifi. since then I tried searching for a fix but failed. So i opted to cm13, with utter disappointment with its lag and bugs. And still, hoping for a miracle, i flashed my old recovery back, trying to give it one more chance. Lo and behold, you've given me the fix that I've been searching for all these while. But instead of just that two files, I've changed all nvram_net files ccode with US instead GB. Reboot. And now I'm replying this on my workplace 5ghz wifi. Thanks dude. Very much thanks.

[Q] Minor tweaks for the E980H Panama ROM on AT&T E980 to make LTE stick on

Hello all,
I know this should be asked in the Development section, but I'm such a noob I can't post there yet lol. I have a quick question for those who flashed the Panama E980H ROM on the AT&T E980. (see this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438088)
Well, first of all, I did it. It's the best ROM there is (in terms of fidelity to stock LG software without the carrier crap). Even the boot animation is pure LG.
Everything works perfectly, too. There's just one problem: I guess the E980H for Panama doesn't have LTE connectivity, because there is not an option to set the phone for LTE/WCDMA/GSM (Auto) like on the Telcel or AT&T Rom. Only WCDMA/GSM or GSM [Auto]. So, I did *#*#4636#*#* and set it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA, and badda bang I'm on T-Mobile's LTE. But that's a pain in the arse because it only lasts until you next start the phone (similar to enabling LTE on a Nexus 4 pre 4.2.2 firmware). And LTE is important to me.
So, my question is this: is there a permanent way to enable LTE on the E980H Panamanian firmware? I'm willing to put up with selecting LTE manually since the ROM is so sweet, but if there is a permanent solution to make that setting stick I would appreciate the insight.
Thanks in advance! (If you're thinking of flashing this ROM, do it - totally stock LG, fast, smooth, beautiful. Without all the AT&T or Telcel garbage). As far as I can tell, it most closely resembles the Telcel ROM but, like I said, without all their crap. Stable and smooth. :good:
I am definitely going to flash it. My device (AT&T E980) is on Telcel right now and though the amount of bloatware is much less than AT&T, it's still quite a lot for my taste.
Thanks for providing the information.

Yes, sadly I believe you were right. My solution didn't work after all. I'm not surprised
You know what I tried now? I booted into safe mode, accessed Testing menu > set network type, rebooted, and so far it's sticking.
Let's hope this is the one...
Any ideas you might brainstorm in the meantime I welcome
QuickRemote...
Hey, has anyone else noticed that the QuickRemote app on the Panamanian E980H is different from Telcel's E980H and AT&T's E980? Like, I've noticed it lacks support for Insignia/Dynex televisions, which the other ones most certainly had. I don't understand it.
Another minor quirk that matters a great deal to me, since I have a lot of Dynex and Insignia TVs around. Grr...
Could we port the other app? And, what's the differences between them anyway? If someone on AT&T or Telcel's ROM wouldn't mind looking and reporting, I have QuickRemote version 3.2.3 on the Panamanian E980H.
Thanks guys! Strange, strange...

Could you explain what maybe we could help? What was you wanting to look at?
I was doing to check the Androidmanifest.xml to see if the option was still in there perhaps, if not i have another thought on the reason why. Also try to see if the option was still there on other stock roms if i use the Panama apks instead. Maybe it's vendor script that removes the LTE option since they don't support it but it should still embedded in the stock firmware.
I wanted to check the apks before installing the Panama rom first, don't have time to backup at moment but will try my luck after getting off my 2nd job if i can stay awake long enough lol.
Way to permanently enable lte!

VERY EXCITED!!!
To permanently enable LTE on the Panamanian ROM, do the following:
With the device on:
1.) Hold down the power key.
2.) Select and HOLD "Power off" until the device prompts you to restart in Safe Mode. Press OK to reboot into Safe Mode.
3.) Device will reboot. Upon startup, do the following:
4.) Go to Phone.
5.) Dial *#*#4636#*#*. Testing menu will open.
6.) Go to Phone information > Preferred network type > "LTE/GSM/WCDMA [Auto]"
7.) Select that one, or whatever you prefer.
8.) Press home key.
9.) Hold down the power key.
10.) Select "Power off." Phone will turn off.
Upon startup, the device will remember that preferred network mode. Mine has - it hasn't fallen off of LTE since. DO NOT reselect a different network type in Testing, or the settings for LTE will not be retained.
11.) Enjoy! Hope this helps. If you gave it a try or it helped you (worked for me! :laugh, please press "Thanks!" I need all the help I can get around here.
Since several of you are on the Panama ROM in this thread... would anyone be so kind as to share the bootanimation.zip?
That did not work for me. What are you calling the "Home Button"? The middle one with the LED? That brings up task manager, nothing else. Thanks.
Hmmmm not sure but when I got my Note i717 and flash a non US Rom and not got the LTE settings I modify the build.prop but right now not remember what I edited.

DOES NOT WORK!. DOES NOT WORK! I think the best solution would be to get the ROM: LG Optimus G PRO (Model: LG E981H). This have this option enabled 4G LTE in the same bands of AT & T, which are: Network: GSM850/900/1800/1900 + WCDMA 850/1900/2100 + LTE (B4, B17)

Very strange. Please follow the guide perfectly. Also realize that it wormed perfectly for me. And BTW I do not have AT&T.
Sometimes, my network indicator says "3G" when its really on "4G" (LTE) or "H+". Not sure why this is. Do not trust the indicator; always go to the Settings menu where it says "Network type: LTE" to see that it is connected. Third party apps like Ookla sometimes invalidate the icon and show you have LTE too.

It worked, and continues to work for me, to this day. Also, does the Argentina ROM have branding? Like a carrier logo on startup or a bunch of their bloatware?
First of all, thanks for the info about *#*#4636#*#* This made me flashing the PANAMA stock rom on my AT&T E980 very worthwhile.
As for the LTE tweak, I went in using the dial code for testing and tried a few things out. First I selected GSM/WCDMA/LTE (Auto), but it resets to GSM (Auto) upon restarting the phone. So I tried the method going Safe Mode and all, and still the same result. But then I tried LTE/WCDMA only, and it sticks!!! I didn't have to go to Safe Mode, and it doesn't revert back to anything when I restart.
BTW, I have a non rooted stock Panama rom. I'm very happy now.
langs
The panama E980 version still has 6 languages in it like the AT&T version has?

does anyone have a guide on howto flash it ?

Is it possible to downgrade modem on Android O?

Hey guys, this isn't really a problem as much as it is an aesthetics thing for me. I was previously using various aosp roms such as ABC rom and also saosp, both of which were based on the latest 7.1.2
I recently came back to Android O , and on each developer preview I notice that it only shows the "4g" icon, whereas in the aforementioned two roms it gave me "4g+ ". I have tested this in various areas and it seems to be rom specific.
So, my two part question is :
Is there a way to modify the icon to show the "4G+" icon and or add the 4g+ via buildproo somehow?
If not, can I flash the radio from either of the roms I mentioned or will it break my current install of Android O?
Thanks in advance

Want to flash custom rom, need VoLTE

I'm getting lost in a lot of the information in here.
I'm fed up with lousy performance and charging my phone 2-3 times per day. I've read a few posts online about how the Exynos version is to blame (lucky me, that's the one I have), and that there are some minor tweaks I can do to both improve the performance and battery life.
However, I am dependent on VoLTE and being able to mask root access (actually, I don't really need root access, I just want to change the CPU settings, which I assume requires root access).
From what I've read none of the AOSP ROMs supports VoLTE, and the Lineage crew says it's impossible for them to support it, while other ROMs says that "everything works" which I would think includes VoLTE.
So to the point. I need to keep VoLTE, and I need to be able to mask root. Is it possible to retain those while:
1) Being able to mod CPU settings
2) Being able to uninstall Samsung (cr)apps
3) Getting a clean android experience without any Samsung customization
Device: SM-G960F
Many thanks.
Im on Soliders ROM, very very good ROM.
I have WiFi calling working, but I have to contact my provider and ask for the config file to be OTA sent to me (only if I full wipe on setup)
I have VoLTE, but it doenst work or activate. Not sure its every worked.

Awesome, but now I have a new question. What does bri4 mean? I see BRI1, BRI3 and BRI4 for some ROMs, does that have something to do with which version of the device I have?
BRI4, its just the latest release basically.
Can check in settings>about>software to see your version and work from there
