[SOLVED] Moto G5 running hot - Moto G5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
this morning I tried taking a couple of photos with my G5. I forgot to turn off the camera and locked the device.
I reached for it in my pocket and found it somewhat hotter than usual. Once the camera app was off it cooled down.
Now I'm trying to listen to FM radio, and it's running quite hot (seems like it's the upper part of the phone, where the camera is located).
Anyone having the same issue?
Cheers

I found out that the culprit was Google Photo.
I turned off all backup options and had no other issues with heating since.

[Q] LG G3 Rotation Issues // X Sensor Stuck

Just recently upgraded from an LG G2. Everything is excellent so far, however I have noticed some issues when taking photos. The controls never seem to rotate properly (camera shutter button appears upside down, if I hold the phone the "wrong" way). In addition I also noticed that the X-sensor for the accelerometer is stuck at 19.51.
I have read a couple of threads about pulling the battery out/tapping the phone.
Anyone know what the deal is, or should I just exchange for a new one?

Extreme lag with camera apps

I've seen threads about performance issues when charging etc and I have them myself!
One thing that completely destroys me is the performance when trying to take a quick picture or use an app that uses the camera.
E.g. barcode scanners move the complete opposite direction
Snapchat is also practically unusable. When I open it, it completely s**ts itself every time and is unusual!
I guess my question is..... Do you think custom ROMs and recoveries will solve the issues?
Thanks

I definitely think we should see some optimizations in the next weeks. Snapchat would crap out on me and eventually cause the camera module to crash. It got to the point that the camera would turn black within Snapchat and even within the camera app itself. Only fix was to reboot the phone to get the camera working again. Yesterday I received a snapchat update, not sure if it was meant to address performance issues, but it now works more smoothly and doesn't crash as often. There is definitely room for improvement!
It's really doing my head in and glad I'm not on my own in seeing this!! I don't know anyone else with the 5x to compare so been searching online.
I timed it today, I rebooted the phone and left it 5 minutes without opening anything. I fired up the camera app and it took 124 seconds (just over 2min) until the app was ready to take a photo (the blue circle showing around the shutter button). Then tapping the button to take a photo took a further minute to take the actual photo. Then the phone was that sluggish it needed a reboot.
Not sure if it's the hardware, the os or the app but I've tried Open Camera too and that seems to be really really slow. And, as the OP says, Snapchat totally craps out as do other apps that use the camera.

I just tried the same test. The camera app opened and was ready to shoot (blue circle showing) in about 2 seconds. Double pressing the power button to open the camera app had the blue circle around the shutter button showing right away
Every now and then it does work perfectly. But more times than not there is a massive lag. Usually after the phone has been on for half a day, but like this morning sometimes when it's just turned on.
I've experienced the same issues mentioned by you guys, especially in the OP.
Snapchat has practically been completely unusable until the most recent update, and that only marginally improved things. The root cause seems to be the camera itself, as I'm only seeing this type of lag in apps that access the camera. I can't help but imagine Google is working on a fix for this in the very near future, just one of those 'early adopter' issues I guess. It has caused me to do daily reboots just about, which is very aggravating because that defeats the purpose of a good camera if you miss the moment you're trying to capture. As I'm sure you guys have noticed, when the camera app actually works properly, the pictures are pretty impressive, which makes it all the more aggravating that it can't be used as fluently as designed.
Hoping for all of our sake that Google fixes this soon.
I'm in the same boat.

LG G4 Heating up while using SwiftKey

Dear Friends, I have an unique issue for which I was not able to find answers over the internet. Recently bought LG G4 H815. The phone functions extremely well but when I install Swiftkey it gets heated up in the upper half of the phone. I can feel the heat both in the front and back where the camera is present.
After a prolonged usage like 45 mts to 1 hour it gets terribly hot.
When the swiftkey is uninstalled it works perfectly find without any heat generated. Is someone else facing similar issues. Currently I am in lollipop 5.1 version. I updated to 6.0 but faced the same issue in fact it use to get so hot that I was not able to handle it and make calls. So I downgraded to 5.1 and now all fine except while using Swiftkey.
I am so used to Swiftkey that I can't live without it. Can someone give me a solution for this problem ? Did a factory reset but nothing helped.
Swiftkey communicates data with remote servers. Maybe you should repeat the test, but before starting to test Swiftkey for heat, place the phone in airplane mode.
I just wonder if your heat is from extended times of data communication using a weak signal.

Rear camera/Flashlight not recognized

My rear camera suddenly stopped working. My phone didn't get any hurt in nowhere, just suddenly it stopped working. I was takin photos since 10 minutes before, I locked the phone and I noticed that Torch tile disappeared. I thought it was a bug and I didn't care anymore. The day before I noticed that even rear camera stopped working, I was trying to take a photo but the "change camera" (from front to rear) disappeared in every camera app I was using, camera apps opened by default with front camera opened. I tried to reflash ROM thinking that it was a ROM problem (even if I was using the same rom since months ago and I've never had any kind of problem), no results. Reflashing everything starting from stock firmware, no results. As a last hope, I tried to replace the rear camera by buying a new one, but the problem it's still here. Could someone that experienced the same problem, tell me where the problem could be? Or maybe some possible fixes, every kind of help is appreciated. Thanks.
Same
I have the exact same problem. After wiping the cache the rear camera is recognised and I am able to take a picture with it (which is not saved into gallery) but about 5 minutes later the option to switch to rear camera has gone and all camera apps (including social media such as snapchat) is stuck on front camera. This leads me to think it's not a hardware problem but rather that of software with which I am running cm13 nightlies that I have updated every day for the past week in the hope it will be patched.
I have this exact same problem on my d855 too..!
Sooooo frustrating, I've been looking everywhere for a fix, tried full factory reset the other day (I'm running full regular stock with no root or anything), and sadly that didn't work either... I'm glad to read someone has tried changing the camera hardware, cos that was I step I've considered taking, but I now know would be a waste of time and money...
But still, the problem persists..!

I don't think that's a software problem simply for one reason: I'm on the same rom and kernel since months and camera worked fine. It stopped working suddenly with no reason.

Yeah now you made me understand why the camera worked for some minutes. I'll try clearing cache after installing new camera module. I'll report the result. Thanks anyway.
Edit: It's not working. At first boot, systemUI doesn't load well, when I reboot everything works fine but rear camera isn't working. Maybe late I'll try with phone's camera. Now I'm using the new one bought some days ago.
same here!!!!! I'm using LOS13.1 on my d855 and i can't fix it... any idea?
What OS are you guys running? Is everyone experiencing the issue on Cm13?
Also try cleaning the camera connections really well.
I have same problem. Although i expirienced it first time on Lineage OS 14.1. Now 30B, but it still not working. I was listening to music through external speakers, and suddenly it stopped working. Music app was "playing" but i couldnt hear anything and when i exit the app my phone just stops working and starts being laggy as hell. Later that day i found out my camera is not working. I tried reattaching cam connector but it did not work...idk if i should order a new camera or it might be a software fix or something
same problem
happened to me after upgrading to 6.0 , downgraded back to 5 with no luck , even opened my phone and released and reconnected the 3 cables inside with no luck at all . don't know what to do
It's "good" to see other people with the same problem as me.
I replaced the camera and it still won't work.
I'm afraid that it might the problem with our motherboard...How can software block our camera even tho all of us fully reinstalled ROMs/Modems etc? It would be awesome if dev would see this and tell us what is the actual cause of this
If you reinstalled the entire OS using a TOT method, no files are left behind. This is more likely a hardware issue.
The Camera module is extremely close to the problematic hot chip on the G3 so it's not impossible something got messed up.
I have a d852 in Canada that doesn't get hot and I'm having this problem too. Going to order a new camera since I know this is a hardware issue. Hopefully fixed the issue. Not cool having no rear camera or flashlight
It's impossible Every G3 gets hot...you either are not heavy user or idk...but every G3 that i've held had the issue of overheating at some point...and indeed it can ruin everything...imagine 120C on your processor...that kills everything around it...idk if my processor got that hot as i've seen in some cases it did on internet, but it did go up to 90ish...and that is too damn hot
FIX ISSUE be Done

Wifi and camera issue

Okay, so I'm having some issues with my G3.
1. Issue: Last night i noticed that my rear camera was not working. I was running Lineage OS 14.1. I couldn't rotate from my front camera to rear one, there was no option for that. So, this morning i installed stock MM 30B and i thought that it will work just fine, it could have been a minor software issue..well, it is not working. I also noticed that flashlight is not working either...AND my front facing camera is upside down What in the hell is wrong with that? I've searched for solution but on google but couldn't find it so i started installing apps that leads me to my second issue.
2. Issue: WIFI is SLOW. It took forever to download Facebook app from app store, even though the signal strength was maxed, and my phone was like half meter away from my router...My PC gets 55Mb/s and phone just over 5...
For the camera, i tried to unscrew my device to see if the ribbon cable is not attached properly, but i was unable to find a proper screwdriver...i managed to get 1 screw out, but it was pain in ass so i figured ill take him back instead of continue to take apart my device....
Any advice on this 2 issues? I'd appriciate it

Please reply there. Did the issue occur after you updated your cm13?
