Kingroot on moto z play - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

I recently got a moto z play form Verizon and was wondering if kingroot would work to root it, basically the only reason I want root right now is for substratum.
If not kingroot is there any other method I could use with out a PC as I do not own one?

Nope

IIRC, the verizon model does not allow the bootloader to be unlocked, therefore, root is not possible. I might be wrong though.

The bootloader doesn't need to be unlocked to obtain root, but it is not possible through any method to root the Verizon Z Play.

That sucks

One-click root can kill our device!

[Q] Bootloader locked. Screwed?

I've got a new t807a from AT&T. According to the "about device" settings page, SE is "enforcing." My understanding is that this conclusively indicates that my bootloader is locked. It's currently running Android version 4.4.2, build number kot49h.T807aucu1ank1
I don't need a custom ROM and I don't care about tripping my knox counter (per se). I just want root. I've asked this in several relevant threads this week and gotten contradictory responses. Is there or is there not currently a method to root my tablet?
If not: is there hope? This is a great tablet but I can't live with the bloat for 18 months until I can afford a replacement. I CAN still return it and eat the 70-dollar "restocking" fee.
Thanks in advance.
Just because it is enforcing, does not mean it is locked.
The s6 shows enforcing and for the T-Mobile version can be rooted with autoroot and trip Knox.

Locked bootloader aside, root can be achieved. Check the Dev pages for specifics/updates but this is the auto page link. You'll see the 807 is being tested but check back there often to monitor progress.

Thanks. I have been following that. Just hoping someone knows something I don't I suppose.
ATT=Locked Bootloader which there's not going to be root or anything. Same goes for Verizon. SE enforcing is Selinux. Most devices have that including my Tab S 10.5 WiFi with unlocked bootloader. SE is an protections or somesort (google it).
Since you have a locked bootloader, it will fail to flash modfied stuff to get root. It will only flash stock images. So you may have to return it. Just remember, don't buy from att or Verizon. Buy an unlocked model or Tmobile. Hope this helps!

I think you're telling me there's no way to unlock the bootloader and root is therefore completely unattainable. Is that right? If it's just a matter of "we haven't cracked it yet," I can be patient. But if you're saying there's really no hope, I'm going to be far less patient.
Is there no software solution (ie towelroot) that might help me get root without having to get past the bootloader?

Its a matter "we haven't cracked it" and no one is working on it. So basically almost to no hope and the odds of getting root or unlocking the Bootloader is really really low. There's no software solution like towel root that will get root or anything that doesn't mess with bootloader.
So there's no hope (unless some breakthrough happens).

Well that blows. I guess that's what I get for buying off-the-rack.
Is this info outdated?
info outdated?
I've got an easy working root on my t807A with kingroot. And yet there seems to be no custom roms available for it.
Slightly out of topic, does anyone have a install to SDcard solution? Nothing I find seems to work

The built-in app manager lets you move apps to SD but I also have not found a solution to install directly to SD (without repartitioning the card). After several months of despair, I'm just now checking back to see if there's been any development on the bootloader front. It appears not. You can get root with Kingroot (also check out supersume, if that's still around, to replace kingroot's su app with supersu) but apparently the bootloader being locked prevents any non-official ROM from booting.

How the hell do I root this thing?!

Got mine today from Korea and I need it to be rooted!
Looks like no one has been able to?
The price you pay for being on the bloody edge is that sometimes when you're one of the first to have a new device no one has had the device to develop exploits for it.
You can always feel free to jump in and develop the method and publish it.
Best of luck.
no root yet OP. to dam early for that. what area you live in?
cant wait for USA release. im sure these g4 threads will boom after that

This uses an exploit that does not work on the LG G4 (ability to remount /system as read/write instead of read only).
All of the existing root scripts that I have found execute the command "mount -rw,remount /system".
In earlier LG phones this command was successful. In the LG G4 this command fails (No Permissions) so the older exploits don't work.

You got this to work on the G4?
A few questions for the uninitiated of LG Android. I am not familiar with the LG Android ecosystem, been with Motorola and just got off of Samsung. If I root the G4 now, how will that affect getting OTA updates and installing them? (like if I root would that hinder my ability to get conventional OTA downloads and being able to install them normally? Like if it would set my "status" to "custom".)
I'd REALLY like to be able to uninstall Facebook and Messenger! Would uninstalling them also possibly hinder my ability to get OTA updates and installing them?
Last will I have to worry about voiding my warranty like you would with a Samsung device if you root that and say tripped the knox counter??

As far as I remember, just rooting your phone doesn't take away OTA availability. You'd have to freeze or delete the files that control that process with a root explorer

You definitely want to make sure Ota is blocked , I remember on my rooted and TWRP installed stock G2, when the first Ota came through tons of people almost ended up with bricked phones, thankfully someone found a way around it, but it wasn't looking good for a second., after that I just flashed a modified stock room to eliminate the risk of OTA

You will not root the G4 now. The bootloader is still not unlocked. After that we can expect root to follow. One forum member said the ul bl and root would be available at the same time - but now is not the time.
Also, for the international version that I have - the UK H815, there is an option in settings not to download or install the OTA.

[Root] How to root M8 UL 5.0 without unlocking bootloader at HTC DEV

Sorry if someone has already posted it, but I cannot find it from the search results.
Basically I want to sunshine s-off my HTC ONE M8 UL, but it requires permanent root because I am running 5.0.1
Is there any way that I can root my device without unlocking the boot-loader? Otherwise it defeat the purpose of doing s-off (I know the steps to unlock from HTCDEV and flash custom recovery, etc.)
Thanks all, any help is appreciated.

Give kingroot v4.5 a shot then convert to super su with supersu me.
Has been having good success rooting lollipop even with locked bootloader devices. It has worked on my tab s and for plenty of others and my m8.
However my m8 was already bootloader unlocked.

Having the bootloader unlocked is a huge conditional difference (and therefore means little). You can easily root by any number of means once bootloader unlocked (flash SuperSU, TWRP built-in root, and I think towelroot works also).
HTC devices are more locked down than most. So kingroot working on other devices likewise means little.
I've read the kingroot thread, and I don't think there were any reports of it working on the M8 with a locked bootloader; and several confirmed reports of it not working..
Worth a try, maybe. But I highly doubt it will work.

You *may* be able to use Kingroot to temp root, then S-off, though. There is a discussion going on in the Sunshine forum where people are getting S-off on Verizon Lollipop M8s using this technique. It isn't easy, and apparently requires a bit of good timing, but it's possible.
Thanks a lot for your feedbacks guys. I will give it a shot.

Rooting

Hello everyone! It's been a month or so since I got a new LG G4 and I've been wanting to root it since the but I don't want to void the warranty yet, so I have a few questions about this. This isn't my first phone to root, but I need some info on this one.
1. What's the difference between *Low Effort Root**and *Bootloader Unlock and Root*?
2. The low effort root can save me from voiding my warranty? Note: I'm from Romania and my LGH815 is a Romanian model too.
3. If those are not the only ways to root it, is there any way of rooting and not voiding the warranty?
4. If question 2 or 3 has a positive answer, can I still get official updates from LG or do I need to download and flash them then root again?

You can use low effort and whenever you want to you can flash back to stock, unroot and make it look to LG (or to whoever might have given you a warranty) as if you never altered anything.
You never think about taking an ota while rooted but updating manually ("low effort" with newest firmware version, for example marcosuper7) is unproblematic. Ok?

Great informative thread! A few Q's if its OK?
1. So with Low Effort Root I can use Xposed and all the modules, remove bloatware and if something goes wrong I can just us the LG tool for restoring?
2. When an OTA is released I will loose root, or I won't even be able to install OTAs?
3. I really want to change the colours if the notification quick toggles, that should be able to do with Xposed, right?
4. Are all G4 updates available viua the LG tool, don't want to use old firmwares just because I'm rooted?
5. After rooting and changing what I want to change can I then remove root to make the phone more secure and not as "open" and potentially vulnerable?

2./4. you never try to take an ota on a rooted g4. You flash through flashtool or push a rooted image when it's available, a couple of days after official release at max.
3. yes
5. most of the advantages of root are lost once you unroot. The only one you don't lose (that i can think of) is that you're still as debloated as before unrooting.

But changes like the one mentioned in (3) will still be there after I remove root?
I'm pretty sure Xposed or any associated modules won't work, or won't work properly if you un-root. Why are you so worried about leaving your phone rooted?

Not sure I'm that worried, but I know that some apps won't start on a rooted device. But I remember something about an app that hides the fact that the phone is rooted, does that exist?

Root Without Unlocking Bootloader

Hi. I am about to purchase a Huawei Mate SE and wanted to know if there is a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. It looks like Kingroot and/or Kingoroot might be an option. I'm not new to rooting phones so I understand most of the basics. From what I read, I won't be able to install a custom recovery and therefore can't install custom ROMs which is fine. I mainly want root for apps like Titanium Backup and Greenify. I don't want to lose the ability to OTA. Is this possible? Thanks in advance for the help.
Kingroot and kingoroot are hot piles of garbage on oreo, and nougat. Pretty sure it only works up to lollipop.
Only way to root is to flash Magisk, and that requires an unlocked bootloader.
Dang. That sucks. Thanks for the response though
no need to install a custom recovery to get root. unlockbootloder densest effect ota. after u unlock ur bootloader you can flash a patch kernel that has Magisk

I just ordered this phone also. You should be able to get your bootloader unlocked with a service. See threads.
I sure hope so. Cause i plan on doing some stuff with this device.
Unlocking the bootloader is not difficult, but then there is a stupid bootloader unlocked warning that comes every time the phone restarts. And supposedly there is no way to turn it off for Huawei phones
