Unable to remove Secure Startup - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

A friend of mine has the same phone as I have - a OnePlus 3 which we both bought at launch. When he got it, he activated the secure startup in the start up configurations - I didn't.
After a while, he changed his mind to go to CyanogenMod (I always help him with flashing stuff, getting him TWRP, try to explain everything) so I got him the (back then) latest CM. The problem was (and still is) that his secure startup still shows up. He doesen't want it anymore, so do I. I go nuts asking him every time to unlock TWRP / his phone just to change something.
Until now I was always able to answer his questions - I read this forums all the time, and google is my best friend. However it seems that no one actually has this problem, or at least isn't really aware of it. The secure startup is an option under settings, but even if we disable it, after a reboot it shows up again. It shows up even after formatting the whole phone. I deleted all of the partitons, but it still shows. I have no clue where it actually is saved, since it remembers not only the language the phone was prior set to, but also the "welcome message".
Is it in the bootloader? If so, how do I get rid of it?
Another idea was to install an old backup of the original OS, but he doesen't have it anymore. My idea was to recover the backup, then disable the settings in hope that the system thinks "well ok, the hash seems to be the same so ok, I let you through with it".
Any help would be great, since I really have no idea anymore.

Just a thought.
May be the phone picks up the settings from your Google account. Try setting it up as a new phone after wiping and flashing either with a new Google account or with no account and see if the issue returns.

Format whole device leave nothing. Use this chance to convert data to f2fs. Then the password will be gone. And you will have an empty phone to start afresh with

Major expert help needed!

my phone somehow messed up on me And I need help. daughter downloaded games and I believe my phone somehow got a virus. I began to mysteriously lose applications and finally my phone locked up. I then had to pull the battery and restart the phone. When I restarted the phone, I got this mysterious message block that I have attached in the two photos below. This message only appears to show up on the home screens and when I scroll from screen to screen. When I open an application, it goes away. When I close the applications, it reappears on the home screens. Has anyone seen this message before?
my phone was rooted, but since this happened I have done a full system restore and back to stock. Even when I went back to stock, I did not have the first part of setup show up......Meaning, where I sign into a Google account, choose wifi and Etc. I do believe somehow these options or part os the software got deleted from my phone and is causing this issue but I am Not sure. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this, and where I can download the files to fix it? I think I need the complete set of files to Flash to my phone that will make the phone just like it was straight out of the box brand new, but again I'm not sure. Thanks in advance
Edit: I have once again rooted my phone. I did a complete set up with a ROM and I still get this message. Again, I did not get the options that are usually at the beginning when setting up a ROM for the first time. these are the pictures I have taken since I rerooted my phone this morning.

I screwed up xD

So, this is my first Samsung device, longtime HTC user. I was cocky and thought I could go ahead and delete system apps that I thought were safe to delete. Apparently, I was sorely mistaken.
I am now caught in a bootloop. Luckily for me, I can get into the system and do a few things before it reboots. I was unable to fing factory images for the s6 edge, so, I have another idea, but I need someone's help.
I was thinking if someone could make a backup using titanium backup of all their system apps and share it with me, I would attempt to run the restore option in TiBu to remedy the issue. If anyone could do this, or has a better idea, let me know. Thanks in advance, and I apologize for needing something so trivial (smh).
if you can get into the settings menu and do a factory reset, that would fix it..
also, try calling t mobile, and ask tech support how you can boot into recovery, and there should also be a factory reset choice in there..

I've done that, the phone simply reboots itself. When I try to boot into recovery, I don't get that distorted green/white screen everyone else does, it flashes real quick then goes dark, nothing more. I've tried the vol- 4 times, power, vol- 7 times power, wait, power combo as well, it does not factory reset my device.
I would still call t mobile and ask them how to actually boot into recovery.
There has to be a way to do it; I would turn the phone off completely, then boot into recovery using the method t mobile suggests..
EDIT: read this http://www.androidexplained.com/galaxy-s6-recovery-mode/

I really appreciate your help in trying to get me into recovery, but I have tried everything. I've done the release after the buttons stop blinking, don't release until you see blue text (which I never do, there is never blue text at the top of my screen). I also work for T-Mobile, I have access to the files customer care would read you if you called in. I am at work right now lol.
Honestly, all I need is a zipped titanium backup of system apps (just the app, no data) that I can get onto the phone and try and restore.
I don't mean to sound rude, but this isn't my first rodeo. I've been attempting to get a logcat to identify which error is causing the device to crash so I can ask for just that one app (I can't get the log though, always hangs on waiting for device, even though I can execute other adb commands). All I need is that TiBu copy.
Edit: Wow, I finally got it to factory reset. I'm not sure why it didn't work before. I tried the same thing countless times with no success, but I finally got it.
Again, I apologize if I sounded rude earlier. I really didn't mean to be.
not rude at all bro, as you know, there are so many different levels of "knowledge" here, that I try to use the lowest common denominator when helping folks out, but you obviously know what you are doing!
Glad to hear you got to factory reset menu; that should fix you right back up!:good:
I was in the same boat as you. Rooted, removed system apps, got back to Recovery Screen, but a Factory Restore did not bring back the apps that were removed. Tried Kies, but it would not work last night. As of this afternoon, Kies will now work. Just did it a few minutes ago.
Use the "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" option. You'll need the Model Name and Serial Number, both of which can be found on the Box, or in the Settings menu if you can get there.

Factory reset problems

So my Swift was struggling to run and kept rebooting on me- I downloaded an app for pokemon go I probably should not have. What i decided after a week of frustration, was to do a factory reset of the phone. But now my phone wont let me finish the install- it lets me get as far as setting up a Cyanogen account, but whatever I do it tells me there is a 'communication error' with the server, suggests changing the WiFi connection and check my SIM us properly installed. It will not let me go past that screen. Ive tried rebooting in recovery, setting up a new cyanogen account and popping in an old sim. nothing but the same message.
I never did anything fancy with the phone. It has been running the stock ROM and was up to date with the software. Im out of ideas, and am looking for any other suggestions.
Anything at all would be awesome. I dont know what information I can give that might help you, but if you need something ask.
Thanks
First thoughts would be that cyanogen are history so setting up a cyanogen account sounds potentially problematic.
Are you not able to skip the account setup? I can't remember.
What version COS is installed?

Ya... That would explain some things. So now i cant even log into my old account?
Nope.... it does not give me that option.
And when check in fastboot mode, it says the LK version is : Crackling-13-ge86e772.
And both the OEM unlocked and security fuse is set to false.
As it's unlocked, you at least have the option of installing another rom. And we'll have a new rom coming from wileyfox soon, too.
So if i download a compatible rom and install that, it should be okay? Considering my device is unrooted, I didnt think that was an option. Sorry about this...
Yes. As you've already done a factory reset you don't have to worry about your data being compatible.
It may be worth trying to flash the latest COS first just in case something has somehow been corrupted. But failing that, install TWRP and try LineageOS or crDroid.
awesome!! I will give that a go. Thanks so much

Bluetooth App Missing, Random Reboots, Deleted System Partition, No ROM in Storage

I've also posted this on Reddit and the OnePlus forums, but I'm hoping I can find an answer here, too.
Long story short: I really messed up my phone and I'm looking for help getting it to at least boot into the system. Lots of weird, confusing things have happened within the past few days, so bear with me; might be a long story, but I'll try to give you the abridged version.
I run locked and unrooted. I flashed OOS Beta 3 over 4.7.6 on my 5T, wiped my cache, and everything was wonderful for a week. Then one day, I got a system message saying "Bluetooth has stopped". I cleared that and thought nothing of it, but I got another message saying "Bluetooth keeps stopping". This message would actually pop up (with no exaggeration) every second. I could only stop the messages completely after going to the Bluetooth app and clearing the data, then disabling Bluetooth Scanning.
I figured the problem would fix itself, but the next day when I tried to connect to my car via Bluetooth, my phone would freak out again like the previous day. I had to listen to a CD like it was 1996. I thought I could fix the problem with a Factory Reset. As soon as I hit the Welcome screen, "Bluetooth has stopped". When I went to check the Storage section of the Bluetooth app in the Applications list, the app portion read 0 bytes. What? Even when I went into Settings --> Bluetooth and tried to turn it on, nothing would happen. I thought maybe I should revert back to 4.7.4 and start from the very beginning.
That served no purpose. The Bluetooth symbol did show temporarily in the Status bar as I was setting up my phone, but eventually disappeared, with the Bluetooth app once again taking up a whopping 0 bytes. I've done various combinations of installs, but I cannot get Bluetooth to function normally. And at some point, my phone developed a new problem: any time I hit the Bluetooth button in Quick Settings, the phone would eventually reboot on its own. Later, it wouldn't need any input from me at all. It would just be sitting in the Lock screen and reboot.
Icing on the cake: I got desperate, unlocked the bootloader, deleted the system and cache partition in fastboot, then wiped the data in Recovery with the hope that doing a completely fresh install would fix the problem, but at some point my internal storage got wiped and now I have no ROM on my phone to install. Even better: I'm having some real problems trying to install OOS (any version) on my phone via ADB sideload. I keep getting the message "cannot read <filename.zip>", even though it's in the correct folder.
I am currently back on my OnePlus 3 and the proud owner of a very sleek brick. I used to root and unlock Nexus devices and Moto X's, so I'm pretty embarrassed that I managed to ruin my phone while it was running (basically) all stock. It can still boot into Bootloader and stock Recovery. Is there anything at all that I can do to at least load OOS (or any ROM)? Do I have to send it back to OnePlus and beg for a replacement? Will they even take this phone in it's current state? Am I just SOL?
I've run out of ideas and patience. I'm really hoping someone out there can help me. At the very least, thanks for reading my long sob story. Hopefully this never happens to you.
try flash orero based twrp and flahs stock 5.0.3 zip in twrp, see if it works. then figure out the reset.
Why would you delete system from fastboot? Does people not formating partition from recovery more often?
The twrp I use
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-oreo-8-0-8-1-t3729673
Update: I managed to unbrick my phone using an unbrick tool. The process was pretty painless and it will revert your 5T back to OOS 4.7.4 no matter what you did to it. Props to Drasm19 from the OnePlus forums and the geniuses behind this tool! Funnily enough, I was ultimately led back here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/how-to/oneplus-5t-unbricking-tool-confirmation-t3733012
You guys more than likely already knew about this tool, but definitely keep this in mind if you manage to brick your phone like I did.
Now I'm back to my original problem: Bluetooth is really messed up. This is what I'm talking about:
https://imgur.com/gallery/eEkbX
No matter what I do, no matter how many times I flash any version of OOS, this is always the result. As you can see, even with the toggle in the "on" position, Bluetooth refuses to do what it's supposed to do and the app takes up 0 bytes. Something is up...
I've searched a lot of threads that reference Bluetooth issues, but it looks like I'm the only one with this problem. I'm open to any and all suggestions that'll help me solve this and get back to using my 5T. I already miss those awesome navigation gestures.
Thanks again for your time and help.
im not really a developer type, but a while back it was easy to root and un root with kingo. and i could put things in the system with FX. please bare with me a sec.. p9's i like, but getting some glitches. when the gboard went byby, on reset, i had to set up my welcome screen by shouting at the phone.. 'at sign' does give you @ but to get capitals you have to trick it, eg. 'USA' to get an upper case 'u'
anyway, i got in, and got gboard from 'my apps' ..fine but of course, wont survive another reset.
so about the missing bluetooth.. iv got the directory info. and the missing files. thanks ..but i didnt want to wipe the phone, it seems rooting has become a can of worms.
wouldnt it be nice if there was a nice (no root) app , to run bluetooth from the apps ? so that 'joe blow' doesnt have to throw his phone away, cos it doesnt work in the car ect.. thanks

Question How can I recover data from device stuck on starting page?(PE+ ROM)

Recently I dirty flashed PE+ ROM into my moto g40 fusion in a hurry without looking at the developer instructions(which clearly says I should clean flash). So ,now my phone is stuck on starting screen with a faded Google logo.I did not even take any backup(Silly Me)!
But somehow I am able to turn on flashlight by long pressing lock button(It was previously set ). I even hear alarms. I think That means phone is awake but for some reason the display is just a grey Google logo
How to fix this?What should I do?‍
I think performing a factory reset might boot the device. But Can I somehow recover the data?
@arsradu Can you please help me out?

Hello,
I don't have the phone anymore. So this is general info.
For as far as I know, you can't recover the data. However, Google does automatical backups at regular intervals, if you let it. So...chances are you might already have a backup. You could try to use it after factory resetting your phone.
Something else you could try...is flashing back the older version you had on top of this one. Maybe it will let you boot into it successfully so you can get access to your data. After that, I would suggest taking a backup, if you don't have one already.
And if you want the newer version again, make sure you follow the instructions given by the developer and see if that works.
I'm not aware of any other way.
Yeah, it could be that the phone is alive, but...if you can't interact with it...it doesn't help.
Thank you arsradu for replying..

I knew you don't have the phone anymore.I read that in the conversations. But I was kinda desperate. So, Sorry that I bothered you.
I hadn't allowed Google to backup my data except for photos and videos.
Flashing the older version of the rom on top of it was the first thing I tried,But the PE Recovery said the data was corrupted , didn't let me to boot into it and it wanted me to factory reset ‍. So in the hope of keeping the data I reflashed the same rom.
But, the exact same advice from you today gave me an idea.I know the data is intact in the device, If I somehow can backup this ,I might restore it in a clean flashed rom!
So I went through other XDA threads, watched some YouTube videos.
Then I boot it into twrp(again, thanks to your tutorial) took a backup of only data, wiped everything, flashed the previous version and restored the backup. And now I am writing from my own device🥹🥹.
But the problem is partially solved.I lost some important files from internal storage (as expected) .When I tap, I cannot open important settings options like individual app info, developer options, restore and backup etc .I can't swipe down the quick settings menu. When I try to toggle night light the display is just getting dark altogether.

Glad you managed to find a way! Good job!
My suggestion would be to make a backup, while you still can, and do a clean installation of the rom.
