Hey,
i am using an encrypted stock rom (V30n) with latest SuperSu in system - mode. I am trying to mount the /data partition in TWRP 3.1.0.0, but it always "fails to decrypt /data".
However, if I use LineageOS (latest nightly) with encrypted /data, TWRP is able to mount the partition with my supplied PIN.
There seems to be a difference in stock encryption and LineageOS encryption that prevents TWRP to mount the partition.
Do you have any ideas how to mount encrypted /data from the stock rom?
From what I read is , is that twrp needs the support for the encryption witch is not there by default ( don't know for sure) but basicly twrp is missing the kernel support for just that
There are twrp costum build with the support , just have to find them.

Hm that's weird, quite possibly that there are some differences and encryption on stock is broken as you suspect.
Glad to hear that they finally added support for AOSP based decryption in official 3.1.0.0, that wasn't available in 3.0.2.0.

I see my favourite glitch kernel have f2fs support.
How can i convert stock 5.1.1 rom to f2fs?
Recovery?
Using F2FS for the system partition isn't really interesting imo, and as you encountered can be annoying if your rom installation script forces EXT4. I suggest you to try formatting DATA and CACHE partitions as F2FS (make sure to backup your whole internal storage if needed) using the latest TWRP recovery. Remember to reflash Glitch kernel after that (using MTP in recovery to get back your whole internal SD data) so your device can boot (as the kernel package will detect partitions at flash time). Good luck !
Tnx, will try.
On N7 2012 and 4.4 android this tool was good for me.
How did this work out? Is it worth doing?
I've recently updated my htc 10 to Android 7.0 using the 2.38.617.6 firmware and added twrp to use for backup purposes. I have attempted to root the device with chainfire's supersu, but failed due to data being in the wrong format.
First off, I managed to find out the the system partition is ridiculously large (17,592,186,044,365 MB) leading me to believe that the system partition has been corrupted.
I've checked the format type for each partition (data, system and cache) they check out to be ext4.
As the title of the post states, I've also ran into that problem before the system partition size issue.
Also, when trying to reboot the system through twrp, I get the message, "No OS Installed! Are you sure you..." but the phone boots up just fine.
Any help is appreciated.
ensure you flashed the latest unoffical twrp from the xda twrp thread. not the official one.

I have fixed the issue. I had to find and flash the latest ruu because I had restore the /data partition from when I had the phone rooted and downloaded xposed. I ran through the same process after the flash without restoring the data partition and now it work.
Only downside is that I can't restore my data until xposed has a compatible framework. Thanks for replying.
I got a clean backup of the twrp formatted the sd card with external memory I mounted the backup in the external sd and restored the system .... With that I was successful:dedos cruzados::dedos cruzados:
When i flashed Stock Rom 8.0 to my phone it boot normal. Then i flash TWRP made for my device. Downloaded supersu and going to flash it but then in the end it says Unable to unmount or mount i forgot sorry!I see that my internal storage is 0MB in TWRP but its not! So it seems like TWRP didnt encrypt my data or what? I flashed stock again cuz i got bootloop after that! Than flashed TWRP again and Internal storage is 0MB! HELP!
You have to format (not wipe) /data in TWRP then it will work, although you will lose all data. TWRP can't mount Samsung encrypted partitions.

until twrp 3.2.1-0 I think I did not have full support for samsung 8.0, I used twrp 3.2.2-0, and the /data is getting decrypted even after reboot.

Really? Your internal doesn't show 0MB and you can backup data partition with TWRP? I didn't think it was TWRP related... that would be awesome.
What did you do? Only format data or did you flash anything?

If you have a5/a7 2017 you can edit this script to reformatting your data partition! (if you don't know how edit it can be very dangerous to your phone)
So, I have the AL10 variant of the phone, with Havoc android8 ROM + MORFUZ Custom kernel + Magisk v16.
I have formatted /data - not wipe , but formatted - and rebooted. Despite custom ROM+kernel+magisk I still have an encrypted /data partition.
What am I doing wrong?

Data is encrypted because the fstab file forces it to be .
Fstab file is in vendor partition.
This is good description on how to do it.

sorted. thanks

Hi guys,
I'm a little bit confused about the TWRP problem to mount encrypted data partition.
My Lineageos ROM and TWRP combination, I had the last years, were all encrypted and I had never problems decrypt data with TWRP and my password.
Now I switched to A5 and it's only possible to encrypt my phone or, to make backups with TWRP!
All threads I found about "can't found crytpo footer" or "can't decrypt /data" were the solution to format data. But I want to keep my encryption to keep my phone more secure! For remove the stock rom encrytion key, ok. But not for daily usage.
I'm on Lineageos 16 and TWRP 3.3.1. My A5 2017 is on the latest firmware A520FXXUBCSHB.
Please enlight me, may I sort something wrong, or something important has been changed on newer devices!
For me it looks like:
Encryption on = Data Encryption on + TWRP Backup off
Encryption off = Data Encryption off + TWRP Backup on
Is it possible to get both, encryption and TWRP backups? Or to get fix for TWRP?
