Need help with which firmware to flash - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello, I have the sprint ls990 model, basically I was messing around and I soft bricked the device, now its stuck on the LG logo. i tried factory reset from boot into recovery which didnt help. Now I am trying to reflash but I am confused with which firmware to pick since I want to be able to have root access and sim unlock.
I was already rooted and sim unlocked on ls990zv6 kitkat firmware (not sure about bootloader) before the brick. So my question is now if I flash the same firmware or the new ZV8(lollipop) using lgflashtool , will this remove the root and sim unlock?
If it removes it, then what option I have? Because Ive read you have to downgrade to ZV4 to root and sim unlock, so if my bootloader is not unlocked, then I will brick the phone???? And if I remain on ZV6 or update to ZV8, And then if root, sim unlock is not possible, then Im stuck with that because I cant downgrade with locked bootloader????????
Please answer this for me. thanks

[Q] Persistent root by firmware upgrade without unlock bootloader?

Hi everybody,
my ambition is to have root without unlocking bootloader. What do I have to do for it?
My current firmware: 10.4.1.B.0.101 Kernel 3.4.0-GE09AFF8.
Android 4.3
ZL model: C6503
All current howtos implicate unlocking bootloader, what I dont want to.
I know backup TA, but you can' t do the TA recovery if the phone is bricked. If you send your bricked phone to the repair service and they can unbrick the phone and then check the status of the bootloader then you lose the warranty.
Is it possible to downgrade to a firmware version that don't need unlocking the bootloader whereas getting root, then upgrade to the current firmware with persistent root status?
If yes, which firmware version do I have to downgrade to?
Where do I get this firmware version?
Which tools do I need to porform such a downgrade?

u dont need to unlock the bootloader for rooting downgrade to .569 build n use doomlords toolkit. and dont worry about bricking your phone ,your phone doesnt get bricked unless you do something wrong in the procedurerooting wont brick and service centre people cant repair a hard bricked phone they can repair soft bricked phone that any1 can do by flashing stock firmware.u dont need a TA backup unless u are unlocking bootloader
Could you post the downgrade procedure and location for the files that needs to be used?
Also still not clear, if there is a way for persistent root after the upgrade back to 4.3.
Thanks a lot for your input.
Please search the forums you will find ftf file for your device and region and flashing tutorial is also available in those threads

[Q] Can I root without unlock the bootloader or to locked it again?

Hello guys, sorry because may be this is the 50th time someone ask this question but the situation change every day. Yesterday I won from lottery and decide to go from G3 to G4. My model is European H815, I want to ask you can I root G4, change the recovery and e.t.c. without unlocking the bootloader? And also if I unlocked it is their any way to locked it again or to use my warranty? Thank you!!
well you can only root using low effort root(google it or find it here ) But to change recovery you have to unlock bootloader
No there is no way confirmed to relock your bootloader
GOOD LUCK
Thank you! If I root by this way and download Flashify and try to change recover what will happen ? Thank you!
without bootloader unlocked nothing will chnage ( recovery wont be installed ) and when you reboot your phone it will get u error (authentication error #9) as i remember and you will have to flash new firmware using lg flash tool 2014 so i dont recommend you do so
if u wanna change recovery unlock ur bootloader
you are welcome anytime
I did not get it, I hope you can light me up:
1. Doing root using low effort root means rooting without unlocking bootloader? (because I flew over the thread and did not read anything about it)
2. If I do unlock Marshmallow's bootloader, what happens when I downgrade to Lollipop via flashing proper KDZ? (I would guess that the unlocked bootlader will be overwritten!? So flashing Marshmallow again would end up in a locked bootloader, doesn't it?)
thanks
You can root lollipop without unlocking bootloader but with marshmalow you can't, you have to unlock the bootloader.
You need an unlocked bootloader for custom recovery.
Bootloader unlocking is a one way operation , you can't go back.

G4 how to root it? (dont understand whats with bootloader and so)

Hello there, i got an LG G4 h815 few days ago, when ever i get new device first thing i do is root it, and it was always very easy for me.
with this g4 i got problems, try to go to LG website and unlock bootloader, it say i cant cause my device is h815 taiwan, so i read more in google and understand official unlock is only for the euro devices.
so i google more try to understand how can i unlock it unofficially, and found nothing, as well as try to google for a way to root it with out unlock bootloader, and also coulnt find.
im sure im missing something, cause i dont think its possible that there is no root for an old device, any help on how to root my phone?
thanks a head.
Lots of people here have H815 TWN...please can some one make a specific thread for rooting or installing xposed on Taiwanese H815 without the risking of bricking or bootlooping the device...meaning successful rooting ...

unfortunatelly you cant unlocked till today.. maybe later if someone can do it... but you can add root to locked bootloader... i have not tried this method.. i tried similar to h811 tmobile.. but its the same procedure.. mine is unlockacle but i dont want to with the bootloop issue... unlocking bootloader voids warranty. and root too but you can always try the kdz that disables the big cores and undo the root..

thank you, i found the root for locked bootloader, i done it, but its only for 5.1 android, and i still cant flash roms, only one rom witch they make for locked bootloader, so after all the process went back to unroot 6.0 androis >:
hope some1 will break this bootlock .

LG G4 VS986 Root question. 2BA or 13B

Hey guys. I had a VS986 back when it was 13B and all I did was downgrade to stock with LGUP and i flashed a rooted stock room, i remember doing something with chainfire "Flashfire" at the time because there is a locked bootloader issue and a custom recovery is not available..?|
Well now i have a new LG G4 VS986 that is 2BA. Can I root the 2BA or do i need to use the LGUP to downgrade to a specific version (like 13b?). And then what is the rooting procedure? YES, I tried to look it up, but i havent been following development for so long I am out of the loop and so much info from the gate is ALOT to take in.
So can someone PLEASE give me a quick run down of the rooting VS986_2BA procedure, and I can figure it out from there- Im not asking anyone to do the work for me, just alittle help. Or a link that could point me in the correct direction. I just dont want to have a new brick! Thank you!!
If you want to root 2ba you need to unlock the bootloader
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-unlock-lg-g4-device-usu-t3760451
Make sure you read the instructions and warnings because the bootloader unlock is permanent!!
Do not flash the baceband packeage you don't need it and your SIM won't be detected after flash
After you do that you should know how to get to fast boot mode and you need to flash this patch boot imge https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GH00BeWsEtKE2Ea34dXLmeMUC4Ts8XEI/view?usp=drivesdk
Here's the command
Fastboot flash boot (filename).img
And that's it all you have to do is install Magisk Manager from the play store
If you need any help please quote me

Not as of March 2018. https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-unlock-lg-g4-device-usu-t3760451
I did it to my Verizon LG G4 and am now on Marshmallow, rooted by Magisk, and running XPosed. It's not a "double-click, next, next, finish" process. Read the entire OP in that link. And here is my summary of what I did https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76691955&postcount=1063.
Oh wow that's awesome, I didn't know that was possible. But since you personally confirm it then I'm going to check out those links!
I wish I knew about this a month ago, I just downgraded mine and my girlfriends phones and flashed the rooted 13b system images.
Thanks for the info! ?

Questions about carrier unlock and re-lock the bootloader

Deear All,
I just bought my z2 force (t-mobile) from internet. It is an unlocked version and i can use it with my own sim card. However, i found that it cannot update via OTA as the bootloader is unlocked. I have heard that after i re-flash the firmware, the bootloader will be relocked. I am wondering, will the flashing re-activate the carrier lock?
Also, is it correct that after I flash via Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant. the bootloader will be locked again?
Is there other method to allow the phone to get OTA again?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Unlocked bootloder won't stop an ota, but a custom logo.bin will. Chances are that the seller has also flashed a logo. When you boot you should see a warning about your bootloader being unlocked, if you don't and you just see a moto logo (or any stationary image really) then you have a custom logo which will fail otas. The easiest way to remedy this is to follow Uzephi's "How to Return to Stock' thread. Then you should get otas again. It is advised never to relock your bootloader. A good example of why would be that you have a custom logo, you relock, your phone fails to boot and you can't flash anything because you locked it. There is no real valid reason to relock your phone. As for losing carrier unlock, you shouldn't, those are usually permanent. Unless it was some hack which I doubt since I believe that is only for Spring variants. Just follow Uzephi's guide and you should be back to good.
