I am outside the UK using a VPN service. With the 5.1 update the BBC Apps (iPlayer etc) have disappeared from my main screen. My location service is off and language is set to English UK. After every reboot I have to install the iPlayer APK to access the app. Any ideas how to fix this?
Go into your Settings than:
1) Alter your Language Setting from (presumably) English (US), to English (UK).
This should ~hopefully~ turn your BBCs... ON! (Its a preinstalled App), and if needs be can be updated from your outta service Account.*
2) Disable Geolocation. I suspect this isn't quite the trigger the First One is. But, it won't hurt anything.
3) Make sure your VPN is setup correctly, and ENJOY!
* Outta Service Account here refers to your non-UK (EU, or US, etc...), Account. You may need to create a second non-locked Account to eventually download Geolocked Content al-la CBSN (e.g. CBS News), which is itself NOT Geolocked, but requires you to use a US Based Account to Download it.
Tried all of the above. Does not work
You might have to 'create' a dummy account then. So you can access the UK PlayStore, and activate from there. If it doesn't show up after having switched out English (US), for English (UK).
The only thing I do know, is could set the VPN to give you an UK IP Address, (And with a dummy Account log into the UK PlayStore. If you ever activated, or purchased anything on your normal PlayStore Account. Than it will be tied to that Region ONLY! So you have to make a new dummy Account if you want to download such Geolocked things.), Then search for iPlayer, where you will have the option to Activate / Update it.
But, if you want iPlayer to survive a reboot you MUST have your language set to *English (UK)* which is NOT the same as English (US), only English (UK) will unlock the iPlayer.

I tried setting an alarm but for some reason it still forces a Google search, despite processing the command correctly. How do I fix this?
Also, Google Now doesn't talk back even though I set everything to US English. It forces a browser search, rather than the built-in in browser like what various videos show.
I'm having identical issues, although I can get my phone to talk back.
If I ask "Who is the prime minister of Australia" it will talk back the answer to me.
But if I ask it to set a reminder or to send a message it just does a Google search.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Set the Devices language to "English (United States)", this is in the main settings not the "Google Now" (Settings->Language & input). The other voice/input language options can be whatever you want.
You should be able to tell if it worked as the Google Search should now have mountains as a background rather than being blank, and in the Google Now app's settings the first option should show up as "Google Now" not "Now Cards".
The only problem is now the weather is in Fahrenheit
EDIT: This can just be set back in the setting for the Weather card
It shows the background for a second and it disappears. I was probably redirected to the local Google region-specific site. Is there a setting I can change to make the search engine google.com?
So here is my story,
I've been trying to the the US Market on my devices, but not a single method worked, I use a US VPN, I paid money for that and it didn't work, I deleted/uninstalled/forced stopped Google Play Store and Services. I used Market Helper which changes my phone model and carrier in the Play Store settings, but nothing worked.
Seems like the problem is from my Google Account itself, having made it in Saudi Arabia back in 2005 could be the problem? I live here in SA and I have other friends who used the methods I used and worked for them. I used another account with just VPN and it got in the US Play Store, it was my first attempt in that account but I don't want to change from my main account.
Also if I go to, for example, Google Play Games on the web to try and install it, even with a VPN, I get that it's not compatible with any of my devices.
I used the VPN to watch Netflix and such, so I'm sure it's working, that's why I suspect the problem is from my Google Account.
All my addresses in Google Wallet are US addresses.
Some of my friends can even access the US Play Store without a VPN or anything.
Anyone got a solution and would like to share it here would be highly appreciated,
Thanks.
Currently, Google Play recognizes the location by IP address. Have you tried to clear the data of Google Play, and make sure it is connected to VPN before you launch it.

I did try that, worked with my other accounts, not with my main one :x
After many attempts, I managed to somehow get in the US Market using VPN on my PC and now I see Google Play Games compatible with all my devices. But still, I can't access the US Market from my phone using my main account.
Hello all,
Has anyone been able to get apps from multiple regions working on their Fire TV? I have been able to change locations and download apps but when I switch between regions (by deactivating my account and activating a new one), all apps fail saying 'App Not Owned' and they quit.
If I leave the 'App Not Owned' dialog up long enough, it changes to 'Authorization Expired - The time to authorize the user has expired' so I'm assuming Amazon is checking the titles against the logged-in user account.
I tried to install the app as one user, then pull the APK from the device using adb and then sideload the APK once I changed regions and was logged in as a different user. That didn't help.
Currently, I have it working so that I just deactivate and reactivate my accounts and the apps stay in place without losing my settings. Just a bit of a pain in the butt when I want to switch from ESPN (US) to Zattoo (Germany) or similar.
I
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how to get this working? I have multiple Fires (including rooted ones) that I can use to test.
Thanks,
Greg
HI,
I have just one account (US account) but I'm in Ireland. I'm using a Smart DNS. I have downloaded Apss to the cloud on amazon.com by changing my device country settings which I think you've done and works fine.
e.g. US account, downloaded TVplayer (UK App), works fine and US Netflix account etc also work. I am not switching my accounts on the Fire TV. Maybe it's the smart DNS is the difference.

The apps get your location from the IP address. You didn't mention anything about changing that, so that is why it's not working for you.
No, I have a Smart DNS provider and have no problems getting apps from any region to work. It's just that in order to use apps from multiple regions (WatchESPN from the Amazon US store and BBC iPlayer from the UK store), I have to log out of my Amazon account and into a different account.
Was just hoping to find some way to have these apps on the same homescreen and be able to use them without changing accounts. My Fire TV is rooted if that helps.
Hello,
I have imported this phone from China, and besides the CN bloatware, I cannot get Google Contacts and Google Maps (and Maps Go) work. Contacts does not sync any contacts, and Maps crashes on app start. The phone is fully updated and rebooted.
Originally the China version comes without Google Play and its required subsystem, so I wonder if I can update Google Play manually to hopefully fix all issues .. ? The seller, a big online exporter, installed Google Play before shipping.
Many thanks,
Pummelchen
hi
i'm going to buy this phone i'm from italy. actually i ve mi 10s with their incredible speakers( i'm going to put eu rom for that)
before buy i'm worried some google apps don't work, how can i add languages, whatsapp notification only when wake up? lots of thing
can you help me to decide because of that. some video shows playstore is installable even on joy ui 12.5 that block google services
thanks
The hardware part is incredible, as it's the fastest Android phone as of 2021-04.
The Google Services install app has been removed from the Xiaomi store, which sux.
Some sellers put the Google Play store on the phone to ease customer experience, but it's a buggy experience. For me, Google Maps did not load and Google Contacts does not sync my GMail contacts.
Currently I follow this guideline to install Google Services manually. Its a bit of a "hacking experience" to get this phone working ..
I'm sharing my experience with you as the "Google Map" crashed at launch & GPS doesn't location with me earlier. In the end, I made them both work. I found that the "Gmail account" at Google Map cause the crash at the launch.
To avoid Google Map crash at launch::-
1) Turn off your wireless/mobile data > Access Google map offline
2) Go to setting > Sign-out from your account > close the app > Go to app info & clear data
3) Turn on your wireless/mobile data > re-open Google Maps online.
BK4pro "Network location" apk came without permission privileges, so you must download another one to control GPS location with permission in order to run Google Map/Sygic/Duo ... GPS relevant apps:
1) Install "Network location" v1.0.0.apk by "Google LLC"
2) Give permission as described in the picture attachment. (optional step)
Hope it works for you!!
Dears,
it's a few months I'm dealing with an absurd problem with Google Assistant on my S20 Ultra.
Firmware releases have passed as Google app versions, but problem persists and Samsung's support is useless.
My phone is set to Italian.
Simply, after some time Google Assistant begins to appear half in English and half in Italian.
Check this video for better understanding:
As you can see, it doesn't work either in English or Italian till I kill it.
I checked all language settings in my phone and in the Assistant's settings, it's all set to Italian.
I just have English and Italian as offline speech recognition languages, as English cannot be uninstalled.
Clearing Google app's data, reinstalling the app and also factory resetting the phone doesn't fix.
I honestly have no more ideas.
Any suggestions?
