Latest G930U firmware (PL2) on G930V is a success. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussi

I decided to try the latest U-firmware on my G930V. I had issues with previous G930U builds having SMS/MMS issues. I gave PL2 a shot yesterday and I've been really happy with it. The phone is very snappy and everything works as designed. Verizon visual voicemail can't be used, but it's not a huge deal. VoLTE works well. You can download My Verizon from the Play Store. I'd highly recommend this firmware compared to the previous builds. Make sure to enable the Verizon APN in APN settings after install.
I'd like to note that my phone is completely stock at this point, NOT ROOTED, so I didn't need to apply any fixes to make things work. You should be able to root without issue if that's your thing.
Downloading the firmware from Sammobile takes FOREVER, so I uploaded it to my AFH account to cut down on that download time for you guys.

Backup using Smart Switch, then use Odin and flash ALL 4 files. Do yourself a favor and don't use HOME_CSC. It'll make things much smoother if you don't.

Let me know if anyone runs into any issues. I know in the past, some have had great experience with the U-firmware and others had issues with no reception. I want to see if the same holds true for this build.

Is this update in January?
Update: Yup, I took it last month and everything was OK. I am on Verizon Rom now just expecting it receives Nougat earlier than U furmware, which updates quarterly.

I was hoping Verizon would see the official Nougat by this point. I liked the feel of the U-firmware, but reception was a problem for me on Verizon. I decided I'd give the latest U-firm a shot since waiting for official Verizon Nougat seems like a lost cause at this point. I'll stay with this until Nougat is officially released. This firmware is the December update, and since they update it quarterly, an update should be around the corner. Maybe the next U-firmware will be Nougat. I think Nougat-U would be damn near flawless lol.

I've been running it since beginning of January no Issues

What exactly are the benefits of flashing this? Do I get 7.0? How is the reception? What are the cons?

I have a pretty big problem. I attempted flashing the 4 files with Odin 3.09. After a couple of seconds the operation terminated and now my GS7 is stuck in a bootloop. Whats worse is that when i attempted to boot into recovery, now it shows a blue screen with the android logo that says "installing system update" for about 2 seconds then shuts off, then tries again. Does anyone know how to fix this, at least so I can flash stock back on it?
Update: Fixed it, was able to get into download mode and use odin to flash stock. The flash failed but it was able to trip the OS and recovery back to normal for some reason.

No carrier bloat and a very smooth OS. The reception is great. The cons are that you don't get any of the carrier features, like WiFi calling, visual voicemail, ect.

Odin 3.9 might be too old. I've used Odin 3.11 or higher on the S7 and have never had any issues.

thanks to you it works perfectly but HOME_CSC failed and caused recovery bootloop after that i tried other CSC and it was successful. I've got very upset on V firmware because they deleted a lot of features on galaxy S7. they are worst

I'm still having issues with this latest firmwire. I do get LTE but not network connection. I still have circle with a line through it indicating that I don't have service. the service will come on for a second and then cut out. Service is called "123456".

Did you choose the APN to use? If you are using a Verizon SIM card, then it should give you the option to use Verizon, but you need to select it.

So there's APN settings and Network Operators. I'm actually using a verizon MVNO called boom mobile. If I selected "verizon" network, I get a notification that says " no service - selected netweork verizon not available". The other one's that show up from the selection are ATT, T mobile, and some 310830 thing. None of them work. I use automatic network detection.
As far as APN settings, I do use Verizon and I get LTE data from that. I just don't get the phone service connection.

Hmmm. This is passed my level of experience then. I'm only familiar with setting up and using authentic Verizon service. I can't speak for other services that use Verizon's network.

Yes you can.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I was looking into flashing the U firmware for a while and I finally pulled a trigger after seeing this thread.
Everything works well on Verizon and it feels great to have a clean phone & freedom to switch. I think it's worth waiting a little more for Nougat.
p.s. Anyone has an idea on when official G930U Nougat will be released?

Will this work for my AT&T S7 on PJ4 firmware?

jOdin3
hey guys,
this is the first non-nexus phone i've used, and I am excited about flashing the U firmware to get a clean stock experience on my g930v. I was wondering what files i should input in jOdin under the PDA/Bootloader/CSC/Phone fields after I extract the zip file SM-G930U? I have searched tried to watch some insufferable youtube videos on the matter have had no luck finding an answer. Also since I'm asking, is it possible to flash this firmware with jOdin3, sorry for the newbie questions, didn't know where else to go.
Thanks in advance to any helpful replies.
Solved the above, no need for replies.
Next though is when I try and flash using Jodin3 the pit file is acquired, the phone reboots and then it stays disconnected and I am unable to start the process after the phone reboots. Any suggestions?
Solved the above by using heimdall to extact pit.
I am close to giving up and flashing anything via jOdin3 I have tried pretty much everything to flash new firmware with no success, latest error is that there is a corrupt file, need to use Odin file...
HAS ANYONE had success flashing a Verizon S7 on macOS? if so please tell me where to go.

Canada N903W8 Note 7 - Cant custom recovery - Help Needed

Hi Guys,
I've just spent the last 8 hours trying to get an Canadian Note 7 to custom recovery and ROM with NO luck !
I've done a couple of Note 7s of UK spec but this is the first Note 7 from Canada, and so far i've had no luck at getting it to accept anything.
The handset has received the cripple code that has disabled wifi, blutooth, 4G, tethering and reduced the battery capacity to 15%
I have tried several files and different methods of loading in a custom recovery so i can then load a custom ROM.
The favorite is to use ODIN and then either load CWM or TWRP.
When trying to load either CWM or TWRP i get an "Auth Fail" or "QTQ Close" error
I tried to use the Sprint method to get into the system and allow a custom ROM and all this did was brick the phone... Its currently stuck in no boot state which just takes me into the standard android recovery with errors of "dirty targets", "check DRK files" and "dm-Verity verification failed"
At the moment i cant find a way to get the handset to load a custom recovery and then a rom, stock or custom.
If anyone can help with fixing This-POS Canadian Telus Note 7 Handset i would greatly appreciate it before i stamp on it and send it back to samsung !
cheers guys
The Canadian variant has a locked bootloader, so no custom recovery and no root. There are workarounds to get the older firmware back that doesn't cripple the phone. There are threads on here for that if you search around.

Correct, no root yet unless its first gen N7 with first firmware but im sure non around anymore.
Best bet is to find a firmware and downgrade to 100% battery. Then block all the packages to prevent future updates from samsung. If you IMEI was blocked then that is a whole different ball game in which Samsung is winning so far in Canada
Thanks for the info guys
I spent 9 hours in the end attacking this thing from all angles and just managed to corrupt it so it doesn't even boot now.
The Canadian phone companies and samsung have done a dam good job at taking these phones down or rendering them totally useless.
Own31,
Do you have any recommendations on what i should use / try to rectify this
Hi, can you put it in download mode? Power +home+volume down

Can someone link me the sprint engineering guide for the snapdragon phones?
I accidentally tried to flash a exynos rom and bricked it before realising there were multiple variants durrr
Managed to find my stock rom for my rogers note 7 and used odin to flash it in download mode to reset it. Currently turns on and has the 100% battery but every time I turn on wifi it prompts for the 60% battery update and I don't know how to block the package.
Edit: Caved and bought package disabler pro and no longer get prompts

Nop... I'm on API3.
I'm using package disabler right now to avoid the OTA updates. I had a notification today that the update was downloading so I just turned off wifi and disabled almost everything under the sun (besides core services) relating to samsung and it no longer seems to be connecting to the update server which is what I want in the end.
Well the saga continues...
I managed to trick it into letting me sideload from ADB.... only problem is i couldn't find any files in .zip format to side load and those that i could it wouldn't accept.
I did manage to get a partial sucsess with odin and got a CP file to install properly... sadly it rejected the BL, AP and CSC files and now its really screwed things up as it just boot loops now and the android recovery kinda doesn't work now.
So any ideas on how to defeat this POS, i refuse to let Samsung Canada and the phone companies beat me, but i think i am fighting a losing battle...
Only half decent firmware files i could find were N930W8VLU1APH1_N930W8OYA1APH1_ESK
Ok really screwed it now ! GERRRRRR
Managed to get it to take a new Bootloader ! all completed in ODIN and the phone rebooted, started to load then crashed and now wont turn on at all - TOTALLY BRICKED !
but the strange thing is, when you plug it in windows still sees it, you would expect nothing to happen like if the phone were switched off completely, but Windows 7 sees it as a device and set up drivers for ELINK HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5)
very odd, and incredibly frustrating !

APH1 Note 7 Rogers with 15% update, no WiFi/Cellular
New user here. I've got an APH1 Note 7 first edition without the green battery icon on Rogers in Canada in the same situation - 15% battery, no WiFi, no cellular. I've tried a few package disablers but it seems all the free ones require WiFi to activate the product license (which I can't exactly do). It's failed every Odin flash attempt I've made, usually stopping at recovery.img or a couple of steps after that. I've tried flashing firmware from all US variants and multiple Canadian ones as well. Any ideas on how to recover the phone? It still boots (even though I semi-bricked it twice). I'm thinking that there might be some options through ADB - could anyone guide me on how to do that?

Your lucky man...original firmware means you can still root with the engineering firmware. That should kill any OTAs. Check out the development forum in the Tmo note 7 area.
In addition check out note7alliance.com they have a working disabler.
Is yours still working on the network? I had thought all note 7s here were blocked from cellular networks...mine is from rogers

Just like you, running on Rogers with no network connectivity.
Seems like the N7A package disabler requires WiFi to authenticate, so I can't use that method sadly.
Right now I'm trying to use a spare rooted phone to put a package disabler app onto my SD, to see if I can then run the app in the Note 7. It's one of the few options I have left, but I'll still try it, as I can't flash firmware without blocking updates.

I've got the Rogers APH3 firmware lying around, so I should be good on that front.
I'll see how far I can get with the N7A method. Thanks for the advice.
i have a rogers note 7 still. thought about trying to make it work but seeing everyones struggles, doesnt seem worth it. anyone have luck selling these things?
The market for Note 7s is mixed. Some units requiring more software work sell for as little as $200 (that's what I paid); decently working units (e.g. 60% limited units) fetch ~$600; and perfect condition units without any disabling updates can still for $1000. Some brand new in box units can still sell for $2000.
That said, is selling even legal? What are the implications around that?

Official T-Mobile Nougat ROM on Verizon Galaxy S7

Right now you can flash official T-mobile nougat rom for Verizon galaxy s7 (G930V). It's seem everything work fine. Here's how to do that:
- Download official T-mobile nougat rom from updato.com (search for T-mobile nougat rom by enter "G930T" in search field - sorry I cannot post link because of XDA's policies)
- Flash rom to galaxy s7 G930V with odin (like any other 6.0 roms)
Done! Now we have final Nougat on Verizon Galaxy S7 G930V
I've been seeing threads on this and the G930U firmware working as well. Has anyone else tried the tmobile rom this way? No root?
You can flash any rom to any snapdragon S7 as long as you match the correct model. ie don't flash Edge firmware on a regular S7.
Does LTE and VoLTE still work after flashing the tmo rom?

I'm actually pretty excited about doing it this way... Are there any downfalls to flashing the T-Mobile ROM? LTE still working data working no dropped calls? Considering flashing over to this when I get off of work anyway just to try it out would like to know if anyone can confirm everything will still work
Don't we have to flash the verizon csc
If you flash the TMOBILE rom your phone will not work with Verizon and you most likely will not be able to flash back to Verizon until there is a Verizon nougat factory image. With the S7 you cannot flash back to an older bootloader and I would think the TMOBILE nougat rom has a newer bootloader.

I was reading the s7 edge forum. They have a 5th file called boot recovery image file tar. Do we not need that one also. Just asking before I flash this
I think it might be helpful if I address a few things. After using this image for about a day, I decided to go back to the U firmware
- Cellular does not work (duh). Renders the "phone" aspect useless.
- The T-Mobile logo is sickening
- Reverting back to stock is very simple. Just flash the V or U firmware and you're good to go. Same process as flashing the T firmware.

Agreed. I flashed this last night, and I must say the official nougat really looks and feels a lot smoother and prettier than the beta. LOL but I agree to a certain point about the mobile cellular network not working only mine was working, I just had terrible cell signal... And only connected to 3G. No LTE. Also wasn't showing my network, network name was 12345678 lol moral of the story I reverted back lol.
On a side note yes you can flash back to the Verizon firmware. I flash back to the API3 and then back to the nougat beta from there. Smart switched everything back and it's like I never left. Lol

Did you have Wifi Calling after installing new firmware? I got a S7 (SM-G390V) on verizon and switched carriers to tmobile, however i can't send/receive images in text. "wifi calling" has been disabled by evil verizon (doesn't appear)..... i want to flash the firmware to enable it to "hopefully" solve my issue. Just wondering if that will appear afterwards....

ugh...ok. i thought that putting tmobile rom on verizon s7 would display/enable that feature (apps/setting/advanced calling)....need to find another solution for mms images
If i was one of you on the flat screen version i would flash the CSC file and the boot recovery image file from the S7 Edge setup and follow directions there. What can it hurt? If it doesn't work you just oden back to whatever you want. You cant use it as it is anyways as you have no real Verizon data with out those files. It's soo much better than the beta! Only thing i haven't got is WiFi calling and visual voice mail.

unbrand verizon phone

its possible to do it like on the s7.. where you can flash the us unlocked firmware (g935u) on a branded phone like g935V
I'm hoping so. I do not have the s8+, but I've read all US models share the same model #, with a U at the end.

yesterday i try to flash the generic US fimrware, the 4 files flashed succsesfully., but when the device reboots send me to recovery, make wipes and reboot and stills verizon. not sure what i do wrong. hopping a someone have success and share it with us. i use odin 3.12.3 and download the fimrware from the samfirm exe you can find here.. using the phone model sm-g955u using regio csc USC
I hope so. Maybe we'll just have to wait until someone uploads the stock version from a Samsung direct version, or find a way to avoid the Verizon boat and blocks. I miss the built in caller ID.
Updating here, it seems that Best Buy is selling the unlocked Snapdragon version in stores now. Does anyone know how to extract the firmware from the phone? If someone could link a tutorial I could try going into a store and extracting it for us.
Nevermind I just saw it was a pre-order, expected at the end of this month.

Guys, download the Canadian XAC and Verizon VZW firmware from updato site. Follow these steps to have an unbranded Verizon S8+. Make sure you use the Prince version of Odin to flash.
I have Verizon S8+ with no bloat, working scloud and called id.
1) New vzw S8, didn't set it up, just skipped all steps.
2) Activated dev mode and used "adb reboot bootloader" to go into download mode
3) Flashed XAC firmware with non HOME_CSC
4) Set up phone normally; however, for security I only enabled pin + require pin on reboot. Enabled dev options again
5) Used adb reboot bootloader to get into download mode and flashed HOME_CSC only
6) Restarted and used *#2263# to get into the band selection menu, tapped enable all bands and hit apply
7) adb reboot bootloader and flashed VZW firmware, but used HOME_CSC for the csc file.
8) It takes about 3-4 minutes to reboot after entering pin for decryption
That resulted in the S8 being XAA/VZW/VZW with everything working properly
Additional info here. Start at post 653.

I read this but saw later in the thread he said he couldn't get signal working or edit his APN settings.
I took a leap of faith and tried it. Everything looks and feels like the stock unlocked version. Texts, calls and LTE are working just fine when I flashed as described. Thanks!

Glad it works for you. I've had no issues at all with it. FYI, if you ever want to get back to stock VZW, just factory reset in settings and everything will revert to stock Verizon.

At step 7 when you flash the Verizon firmware, are you flashing AP, BL, CP from the Verizon download firmware and then the Home_CSC from the XAC firmware?

Flash all 4 files listed from the VZW zip. Do not flash the regular csc, only home csc from the VZW zip.

I did and all seems to be working great minus one side effect. Video calling in advanced calling is greyed out. I very rarely use this but is worth pointing out. I haven't yet tried calling vzw customer service to see if it can be enabled.
But do have scloud support, called id and places tab on dialer. Also note have the auto reboot function in settings.

Yes, that's correct. The U version of the s7 edge did not have video calling either. I use Facebook messenger or duos anyway because I don't know which contacts use Verizon.

I think it's also worth noting that I had the advanced display color control before I flashed the VZW firmware, but was back to the non-advanced control after. I'm sure this is because the vzw firmware is an early release. Maybe once updato site gets a newer firmware it can be flashed and see if we can get the latest vzw fixes.

Sm-g960u1 att firmware

Hello,
I apologize if this has already been discussed. I searched the forums, but am having no luck. I have the u1 unlocked s9. I'm trying to flash it to have att firmware so I can use wifi calling. I used the samfirm app and was able to get the firmware that I thought I needed, but after flashing, I have no carrier apps or wifi calling. I have an s7 with wifi calling if I need to put the sim back in that for anything. If anyone can direct me on what files I need, I would appreciate it. I read somewhere that I just need the userdata file. I tried that with odin, but it fails to flash with fused 3 binary 1 error. The firmware on sammobile was slightly different from the samfirm app, but I couldn't get it without a premium account. G960U1UES3ARJ6 is my current baseband.
Thanks!

Have you gotten the October update? I fought with AT&T about wifi calling for months about this. They claimed they enabled it after I called but it never showed up in the phone app settings. They finally said it was because the phone was unlocked. When I received the October 1 update, it showed up in my settings. My wife has a Galaxy J7 and it showed up on her phone also after the update. I see some saying that it never showed though so make sure you have the latest Odin.

Yes. My phone says security patch level is November 1st. Att said I would not get it because my phone was an unlocked model. I get that, but from what I've read, I can flash the firmware on it to basically have the carrier firmware as if it was bought from Att. I dont know what files to get though. Did you use Odin for flashing it?

No, mine was the normal ota update. Don't expect to get any help from AT&T on this. They told me it wouldn't work on my unlocked phone yet now it does. I expect it to go away at any moment though.

No OTA update after converting Unlocked to TMB

I converted my unlocked US Note 10+ to T-Mobile. I am not receiving any OTA updates. My phone says that I am on the current software with December 1st Security patch.(the package I flashed in Odin) SL8 There is a January update available SLB but my phone doesn't see it. I know I can just manually flash it but it's kind of inconvenient. Anyone else able to pull updates after converting? In the T-Mobile app my device shows as "Unknown device" so I'm not sure if I should go back to the unlocked US firmware or try to figure if I goofed along the way. Thanks for any help.

Did you use the non home csc when (and do the factory data reset after successfully) flashing the phone with T-Mobile firmware?
If you didn't then that can cause the issue your having with OTA.
Yeah I did that. I'll back up my data and flash the old update, factory reset, and then see if it'll pull the latest update. Thanks. I've read where a couple of people are having issues with ota updating
I brought my Sprint Note 9 to TM. I didn't flash anything, but couldn't get OTA updates. I know I could have flashed TM, but I was lazy. I called my TM experts. They called Samsung. Samsung looked up to see where the nearest Samsung tech was. It was at a Best Buy. She was in the Geek Squad area. She evidently flashed the TM firmware. After that I was able to get the TM OTAs. There was no charge for this. I happily upgraded to the 10+ 5G when TM got it. I love it! It also came with Android 10 on it.

Your not doing something right or have skipped/missed a step..
When flashing the t-mobile firmware do so in it's entirety. Be sure to use the userdata as well.
The flashing process is pretty easy and rather straight forward, but as a refresher follow the instructions at the bottom of this post

That may be the issue. The tutorial I used said not to flash the userdata. So when I do this again, I should flash the Tmobile userdata along with it.
