htc 10 camera issue - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

In dark(No light), My htc 10 shows me white points on screen during zoom in camera mode and video mode).
Fully zoomed in, and take a picture, my picture shows white points. THIS IS SO TERRIBLE. I JUST GOT 2 DAYS.

White points? The grid squares? You can turn those off under the camera settings. Otherwise, I don't see anything wrong in your screenshot.

No... zoom that picture, you can see what I said( white dots). not square grid.

Looks like you're taking pictures of stars!
Stupid question, have you tried cleaning the camera? ...... Of course you did.
In that case it could be dust on the inside, but how often are you taking pictures of things in the dark with no flash? Does it effect the picture in normal light or in low light with the flash?

Is it just me that can't differentiate the stars from the white spots.
OP, upload an edited version to illustrate what you're referring to.

Haha, that's the problem. I don't think the op was taking a photo of the stars. It just looks as though he is.

[Q] Inverted FFC pictures?

I was testing out the FFC on my Telus Galaxy S II and when I take a picture with it, I see the animation and the picture go to the bottom left corner, and then the little preview of the picture becomes flipped. When I tap on the picture to view in the Gallery, the picture itself is mirrored.
Is anybody noticing this? Is there a setting to flip it back?
Thanks!
Lol. I noticed this also. It actually "corrects" the pick. I took a pic and the saved preview pick flipped. But I noticed I had writing in the background. It is fine in the flipped pic but in the main display it's backwards this the flip.

Not exactly sure how to fix this, if it's even possible to fix it. Haha.
I've noticed that every pic I take while holding the phone in portrait mode is sideways. I think Samsung intended for people to hold the phone sideways to take pics, which I find dumb.
That's really odd.. I wonder if there is some sort of photo software for the phone that can be used to flip them back?
You can rotate photos with the built in gallery app, if that's what you mean...

I know you can rotate them in the stock Gallery app, but I wonder if you can flip them on a horizontal axis, if you know what I mean. That way, an "inverted" photo could be flipped right side up.
It works ok, when it flips it corrects it, when using the front camera its like looking in the mirror, like your right hand looks like its ur left hand, but once you take the pic it flips it and fixes it

Maybe put the photo on a larger colored background? It crops the photo for both directions of the screen. If your original will fit inside both directions you can keep it whole. Only deal here is that you will see a colored background on the sides or top depending on the size and shape of the original. black or deep red might not be bad.

Where are the special camera features???

I know I heard that night sight isn't available yet, but where is auto focus tracking, top shot, and live lens? Just got my white 128gb Pixel 3 XL and none of those features are present.

They all work on my phone.
Lens, is in More. To be honest, I'm not sure how to get top shot going, nor auto focus tracking in video...
You do the updates...go to camera app and select more?

auto focus tracking is done by tapping a subject on the screen.
night sight already works, check these forums.
top shot: Open camera app in your Google Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL, Now take a picture with your device, Now open the picture you took with your Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL, Swipe up the screen until you see photo details, Now move finger left or right until you see recommended. You can pick the recommended one as the best picture.
Lens is supposed to work in the regular viewfinder for the camera, not as a separate mode. Top Shot does not work. Super res zoom does not work. Anyone know what's up with these features?

Night sight is in a modded camera apk. I know all about that.
Interestingly enough, auto focus tracking only started working in the stock camera AFTER installing the modded camera apk (CameraP3) .
But still no super res zoom or top shot in stock camera on the Pixel 3 XL.

Top shot works. Make sure motion is on (not auto). Like someone mentioned above, after photo is taken view the photo and swipe up, you'll see a bunch of photos taken with the top shot selected.

top shot is those motion photos it's a circle on top it'll say motion off/motion auto/motion on turn it on and when you view the pic swipe up for the details and that's where you fine the different shots

With motion set to on, it works, but isn't anywhere near as intuitive as other videos I've seen. I have to click on the preview, then swipe up, THEN click on recommended shots, then I'm able to check out the top shots. I thought you just swiped up from the viewfinder and it immediately took you to the top shot of the last photo you took.

Yeah, I've seen several videos where they show just that; they take the picture and it's there, they don't leave the camera for the preview or any of that. Some editing going on there I guess. At any rate I had expected to find it in the camera app. Same with adjusting the bokah on portraits, I expected a slider in the camera screen, not having to switch to the preview and then fiddle it from there. In other words some reviews have led me to believe I could do it both during and after taking the photo. IMO opinion thats most def how it should be. Overall the camera app isn't as easy to figure out as with a sammy where you can figure things out just clicking around. I had to do an internet search to find out how to do the top shot.

So where is top shot at

Except it is. Make sure it is on and not auto, take a picture, click on the picture on the bottom right, then swipe up. You'll see a bunch of pictures from left to right (pretty small), you can either click on one, or slide one way. Trust me, it's there. I used it last night.
From what I see, the best quality overall picture is the one you initially see (the clearest + people smiling). However, I selected some different ones because I liked the way my kids looked better in some other shots. Overall, I really dig.
Yeah, we understand it's there, the comment refers to the idea that if you have to resort to an internet search to figure out how to turn on a headline feature in a camera app the camera app GUI needs improvement. Why would I expect I need to turn on a seemingly unrelated setting called "motion on" to turn on top shot which itself has no switch enabling it anywhere in the settings? Not exactly intuitive.

Ah, true. I didn't know until this thread myself. They need to add a button that says top shot I think.

Weird "light bleed" effect on home screen only...

I know this isn't really light bleed, given its an AMOLED screen... But when on the home screen with a black image, there is what looks like light bleed across the top of the screen. This only happens on the home screen. Any ideas?
I have the same effect up top... It's like the notification area is glowing a bit so you know it's there.

If you took a screenshot of your phone's screen and the effect is there, it means it's not your hardware. Screenshots don't actually capture what you see through the panel. Just like you can't see burn in with a screenshot you can't see light bleed or any kind of panel deformation as well.

Yes, I understand it's not hardware... But it's an issue none the less...
You can see it in the top of the image I attached in my original post. It is only persent on the home screen, and it's really annoying. It's extremely obvious with a black wallpaper.
Yeah it's that particular wallpaper of Pluto or Earth. I get the same thing. In fact, try sliding over to the left where Google news feed is and put it in between screens. You can see it sliding to the top. It's even more pronounced when you switch the display theme to daylight instead of automatic.
In other words, Google has to fix their wallpapers. Nothing to see here. It's not light bleed and I would change the title of this thread to make it less confusing.

It is not just the Google wallpapers... It is literally any wallpaper that's dark enough.
Then it's the Google launcher. The point is there is nothing wrong with the display.

I'm well aware is not my hardware. Read my original post, I clearly said I know it's not the display. Light bleed is not possible on an AMOLED screen... And also not selective to the home screen only.
Just because it's software doesn't mean it's not an issue..
It's not a bug, it's here to prevent Burn-in. It's also visible on the bottom. I saw it with a grey wallpaper, I didn't see the line of the nav bar but on the home screen I did. Like I said, it's here to prevent Burn-in.

This is correct. It is there for a reason from Google.

Question Question related to camera / screen size / fotos

Hi, basic question maybe, but when I take a picture with the camera (horizontal, normal mode, 1x), then view in Google photos, is it normal then that the picture does not fill the while screen (black bar at top and bottom)? Same for vertical pictures (black bar left/right). See example screenshot in attach.
I think that's just the ratio 16:9 of the shot you took.. the actual screen itself isn't 16:9, which is why you have the bars

Yes, that's normal. Your cameras' aspect ratio does not match your phones.
Horizontal -> 16:9
Pixel 6 Pro -> 19.5:9 ratio

Check your ratio setting in the camera app.
Edit: Possibly disregard.
I have it set to 16:9 ...
