[Q] IR-LED remote: which TVs supported?

Hi,
I'm wondering if I can use the ir-remote with my ~ 3 year old Sony KDL32-W4000 TV?
Or are only Samsung TVs supported?
And will the ir-Remote be built-in in all country version?
Because I remember the ir-led remote was only present in the UK version but not in the Austrian version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7
There are 2 built-in apps that work with the IR Blaster, one is Peel, which is a 3rd party app (not Samsung). Both apps support many TV and set-top cable box manufacturers. Also, support is usually not model specific. Manufacturers use a set of IR codes that usually apply for many models, over more than one model year. Sony is a major manufacturer, and 3 years old is pretty recent. so I'd guess it would be supported.
My only gripe about the IR Blaster is that the range is very limited. My living room is pretty small, and I have to actually sit forward on my couch with my arms extended all the way, for my set-top cable box to be within range of the IR Blaster (maybe 5-6 feet).
Peel seems to work for my ancient Sony tube TV. But doesn't work for the analog to digital OTA converter so it's no use. The other app works for my Vizio hdtv. I haven't used it enough to comment on range, but I don't like the channel selection for OTA channels. I live on the border between two states and it only lists OTA channels in my state.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using xda app-developers app
They should start a website where they have a database with compatible TVs.
Like Logitech used to have for their Harmony products.
I have a Set top box (it is from Cisco), I don't really think it would be supported. Most of these apps only have US and UK Set top box programming. I am in India
Use of the TV remote is pretty useless for me since I have to use the Box' remote to switch channels. and Unlike the Logitech remotes, the Note 8.0 doesn't even have an IR learner port. Is it possible to make the tablet learn the codes from a remote.
If it helps, I also have an IR receiver which has a 3.5 MM jack at the end.Can it be used for this purpose?
(I don't think so, because the 3.5mm jack on the note8 is out, whereas the reciever will try to send in the signal)

I have a Sony smart TV in my bedroom but somehow my girlfriend has managed to lose the remote. I live in a one bedroom flat, I dont know how that is possible. Im really hoping the IR blaster and apps are able to control my TV. I'm too lazy to pull every peice of furnature out to try and find that darn thing. Especially since every available surface seems to be covered in her clothes or make up.
The IR is kind of useless to me because I regularly sit too far away from my equipment and the IR extender/repeater I have isn't translating the IR signals properly.
What I would hope is that there is some other 3rd party app that would work with the IR on this device so I wouldn't have to set up Peel or the WatchOn just to make a quick ad-hoc connection to a friend's TV.
These apps focus their functionality more as media portal apps instead of just a plain old remote control replacement app, which is what I'm looking for.

Amazing new Raspberry Pi enclosure; check out piServer

Hello Everyone, We're introducing the piServer. piServer is a sleek enclosure for the Raspberry Pi equipped with an integrated power source, a powered USB hub, high-definition optical audio output, an internal hard drive, a case fan, and an intelligent power switch. The piServer harnesses the power of the Raspberry Pi, transforming it into a stand-alone appliance ready for almost any application.
The piServer has the appearance of a set-top-box that could rival any of today’s most popular consumer products. Inside the fit and finish of this enclosure is custom-engineered, digital circuitry that expounds upon the features of the Raspberry Pi. It nearly doubles the number of USB peripherals that can be connected to the Raspberry Pi and boosts the power supplied to each of these peripherals to the full USB 2.0 specification. Furthermore, the piServer equips the Raspberry Pi with a 1TB or 2TB internal hard drive. This enormous data storage can be used to store an entire movie and music collection or create a network file storage device. To complete your multimedia experience, the piServer enables the Raspberry Pi to output high definition digital audio through optical S/PDIF or HDMI. Finally, a PWM controlled fan, a heat sink, full access to the 40-pin GPIO header earn piServer the title of Ultimate Raspberry Pi Enclosure.
Please visit the NightShade Electronics campaign on Indiegogo to purchase a piServer or at the ns-electric website - they are ready to produce the piServer and have it to you in December 2016! (sorry I can't give links yet). Thanks for your time and your help to spread the word!

Remote

I have a smart TV, a cable box & nVidia Shield (on it's way)... The cable box is a POS from the dark ages & doesn't register any channels on the Smart TV (LG WebOS 3.0).
Can I get a remote that will operate all three devices? I'm considering the Logitech Harmony, which would be ideal, coz I also want to install a hub... but details of the remote are sketchy... Also looking at the K400 keyboard as a remote...?
BTW, I tried operating the cable box using Peel in the past, but it refused to work...
I bought a re-furb "Logitech harmony ultimate hub" (no remote included, just works via phone app) back in november, to match up with my echo dot....Works perfectly! It controls my non-smart Samsung plasma TV, my smart Yamaha receiver, samsung Blu-ray player, Samsung cable box, and of course the sheild TV. I also have a very old k400, and that works very well with the shield as well.
I'm not sure exactly that the newest Harmony Remotes bring, sans being perhaps able to talk to ZigBee Lighting Devices. I'm not awre of any of the newer Remotes having either a Gyro, (Air Mouse), or a Mic (for Google Now etc...)
So as long as you only need a good IR Blaster I would suggest scouring Fleebay for a Harmony One, or to cover your basic Bluetooth (i.e. PlayStation 3 - Blu-ray Players), the Harmony One Plus.
Both of these should now be about half, to a third of the price of a newer Harmony remote, and are just as good... Or even better than the newer remotes in that these still have a full Numpad on them I think the Elite will only give you a soft Touch Numpad. Which may or may not be as simple to deal with.
In my experience with it I would prefer the hard Numpad. But that's just me.

Model decode 10.1 inch Android?

Chinese 10.1 inch Android 2Din would have to be one of the best stereos that I have ever fitted to my car.
BIG display, slim design that easily attached over the top of the original car radio fascia, looks great, big sound, terrific net connectivity from my phone- Youtube on my dash, superior GPS from my phone, nice playback from usb stick, resume etc.
And cheap!!
But, no AM band, SteeringWheelControl will not save, no IR remote-so cannot interface to IR accessory that hooks on steering wheel (or interface that I can adapt)
The model is YT9217B.
I understand that YT9218 version has those wanted features.
Could somebody decode the model that actually delivers on promised features?
i.e. 10.1inch Android slim includes AM band and SWC learn that saves, ideally with IR remote too.
Many Thanks, Cheers
It seems that many of the claims in the adverts are best described as "rubbery".
Android versions, number of CPU cores, inclusion of AM band, and functions that do not work!
A veritable minefield!
Anybody else have similar experiences?

Connecting a video game controller to headunit

I have a Dasaita 10.2 PX6 Head unit and I was just curious is there a way to connect an xbox or ps4 controller to it to play games? I've tried Bluetooth but it won't connect just phones and wired doesn't do anything as well as far as I can tell. is there a developer option you can access like on an android phone or regulars tablet in order to "Activate it"?
I just purchased and installed a Dasaita 10.2 PX6 in my 4Runner. I was not able to get my PS4, Xbox One, Switch, or iPad bluetooth wireless controllers to work. I think this is because when the head unit tries to connect via Bluetooth it requires a 4 digit pin from the connecting device.
The good news is that I was able to get a wireless controller with a 2.4GHz USB receiver (dongle) to work with it. I downloaded Retroarch and can play games as well as control the head unit home home screen, etc with this setup.
Obviously you will need the USB port in your car connected to the head unit for this to work. This technique also works with my Logitech MX Master 3 mouse and wired USB keyboard. I assume it will work with any controller that utilizes a 2.4GHz USB receiver.
