New to Android and HTC One M9 - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have recently switched from iPhone to HTC One M9. The first day I installed the "Nougat" but somehow crashed the OS. I got it back with reinstalled OS from shop after 3 days.
Now I have couple of questions;
1- In recovery mode the option in S On. What does this mean? How can I turn it Off? What is the basis difference between these 2.
2- Why Can't I reinstall the OS in case of any other issue in future? If yes when any help on this and which version will work with this?
3- Like iPhone I can update the IOS through itunes, Is there any similar option for HTC One M9 to update the software via HTC Sync?
4-Any other help if you can provide to newbie
I know a lot of people had this discussion but sometimes it's hard to find
Regards

All you need to do is browse and read... Important things are usually at the top... s-off grants you more control over your device (but is now paid ?)...

1. S-ON is a security feature intended to prevent changes to the phone that may damage it. It is not necessary to achieve S-OFF in order to customize your phone (ie, custom recovery, root, custom ROM). However, you will need to unlock your bootloader for those things.
2. You can. The readme thread gives more information - look to the RUU section for information about how to go about this. If you've got questions, post them here.
3. Generally updates are done over the air (OTA) or via RUU. There may be some carriers that provide computer-based update software (Verizon, I believe, does this), but otherwise OTAs & RUUs are your options.
4. Check out the readme thread. It is long, no doubt about it, but will get you up to speed. And you can always ask questions about specific issues you don't understand or need help with.

[Q] How to bring HTC One M8 back to original firmware for a complete novice - SOLVED

Hello,
I've bought an HTC One M8 at ebay a few days ago.. the device was sold as a Google Edition one, although, after I bought it, I realized that it was an unlocked HTC One M8 with a Google Edition rom (description in english wasn't so complete as the german one ).. for me that wouldn't be a problem, although I would prefer to have the genuine firmware (I like the original HTC software)..therefore, I asked the user to change the firmware before sending the phone to me.
After receiving the phone, I've noticed that firmware version is "Android Revolution HD 8.1 by mike1986".. therefore,.. not the original rom from HTC.. besides this, there's also some "leftovers" of the google edition, as you can see in the image below (appears when I reboot the phone) .
The user told me that he has spent almost three hours to install that rom,.. and that he couldn't ger rid of the "Google" symbol whenever reboot the phone, as he had almost bricked the phone when he was trying.
What I would like to know is if there is the possibility to change the firmware to the original HTC firmware, exactly as if I was getting the phone from the store (with all the applications that comes with it) and that also allows me to benefit from HTC warranty?
If so, is there any step by step guide to safely do it?
I'm a novice in this area (never rooted or unrooted a phone).. and I just want to have the phone as if it was out of the box (do not need to have it unlocked to update roms or to delete any applications that comes with the phone, or something like that).
My HTC has a CID-HTC__102 (based on what I searched in the forum...it looks like an unlocked international version (German) device) and it has an IMEI SV 01 (I don't know if this info is needed, but I could not attach any more images, so I post this info here).
I will leave some info screen images as attachments so it becomes easier for you to help me.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards,

Hello Ross,
I've already read that post, however, for a noobie in this area, I believe that there's a lot of things that might not be so easy as they're for who flash firmware a lot of times.. for example.. "flash (...) ROM in TRWP"...I never flashed anything ..
I've roughly seached in the forum for "flash in TWRP"..and there's a lot of people with problems in flashing things with it (get stuck in some point)...
Besides this..EddyOS post mentions to use "odexed package provided by @Mike1986".. is that post only about applying that ROM or can I use another one? I already have a ROM by mike1986.. the one that I want to get rid off .. I want a completely original ROM as if the phone came from HTC... I was thinking on this..but even this one looks like was also provided by mike1986... (and probably has the same name that the one that I have).. isn't there any ROM by HTC without any modification???
I haven't got anything against ROMs made by mike or someone else.. I just want a manufacturer ROM which allows me to have full warranty and the functionalities that originally came with the phone. For example, with this firmware that I currently have, I cannot add my google account (says "cannot connect to google server") and I cannot see if there are new phone software updates (it keeps searching and searching)... and if I look into phone's software name.. it appears "Android Revolution HD 8.1 by mike1986"..well.. if I would take the phone to HTC under warranty.. they certainly wouldn't do anything with that software
Another thing, you told in your reply that I may not need to do all the steps.. Why not (?) and.. in that case, which steps shall I need to do?
My final question of this post...since the user that sold me the phone had already made a firmware update (google edition) before the current one, and now.. the phone has things from two firmware updates (the initial logo from google edition firmware, as you can see in the attached image, and the firmware from mike1986), don't you think, that it would be necessary to make another steps to clean all this mess?
Thank you in advance for your help.

odexed package provided by @Mike19 and the system dump you linked to are the same stock, more than likely the very same file. You can use any rom, that is a stock dump and the correct version, but i would use mikes, or from the list of stock dumps thread on here.
Mike is a rom developer, he makes custom roms, but also has sources for his roms, which he then supplies for us to go back to stock.
with your google flash screen, i did read that if you flash 1.54.401.5 then reflash 1.54.401.10, it fixes that issue, not sure how true it is.
Please see solution in here
Thank you

[FAQ][HELP THREAD][GUIDES LIST] Ask Any Question

Hello Everyone.
Good News for everyone. I have decided to maintain a help thread at HTC ONE M9 community in order to keep the threads for development/general section more clean and better organised. I have been noticing for a long time that whenever new users join, they still are not sure about the rules and thus mistakenly post in the wrong sections too often. If any senior member points it out to them, mostly it is either ignored or taken personally. Thus I have decided a combined help section would be very helpful to the community and the questions which are sometimes left unanswered and lost in question answer forums, that would not happen again for all of you.
I would be trying my best to personally answer all your questions and shall refer you to someone in case I feel someone else would be able to answer the same question in a more detailed way. Other users can feel free to answer as well if you think you can tackle the situation well and make sure while answering any question, you provide enough information to the users as well. You can easily link the users to posts if you think a question has been already answered.
REASONS I AM MAKING THIS
Lots of repetitive questions.
Same things told again and again
Threads remain clean
A simple reference to every important thread that you should visit in case you have a problem
WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO
Read the rules here XDA RULES BEFORE YOU POST
Idea of this thread is to help and to be helped. So ask any question you have in mind related to S6, Android, or anything at all as long as it is related to your device directly or indirectly.
Make sure you are precise with your information
Be Detailed
Do not repeat the same thing again and again
Use search button to find if your question has been asked before. Do not repeat your question if it is answered before.
WHAT INFORMATION YOU MUST PROVIDE
1.Your bootloader status if applicable
2. Rom name with complete baseband/date/version
3. Kernel name
4. Any Mods you are using
5.If you are using Custom Rom, your flashing style i.e dirty/clean or you wiped anything else in specific
6. If you used any guide, link to the guide
7. Root status
8. Your exact problem
9. Any method you tried that failed
10.Any other detail you think would be necessary
Make sure you provide as much details as possible. Things like my phone won't turn on please help would not be of any help to you or to the person answering. So please make sure you provide as much detail so we know exactly what is your problem and thus guide you in the right direction.
A sample would be something like this
Device: HTC ONE M9
ROM name: CM 12 dated 10th May
ROM version and base: 3.99-RC2
Build number: CM_M9-userdebug 4.3 JLS36G
kernel version and its settings: 3.4.0-myspecial.kernel.plus [email protected] #193
Rooted
Sabertooth Mod
I can not use my WIFI. Although i tried flashing Wifi modules but it does not work.
I flashed CM over Stock firmware version X.X.X.X.Y.Z
ETC

Hey all, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes. I'm running the HTC M9 with VZW. This is my first Android, so I haven't rooted/unlocked/anything yet. I'm not even sure if I want to for the time being, since I don't currently have the time to troubleshoot any problems that might arise. Anyway, on to my question:
From what I have read, it seems VZW made HTC disable the FM radio, or at least didn't ship with the FM radio app. 3rd party apps like NextRadio don't work. I went and found an .apk for what I thought was the current version, but it doesn't work (as soon as I open it it crashes).
Is there either a stock APK, or a 3rd party app that will allow me to use the FM radio tuner, without rooting it? If not, what steps would I need to take to be able to use said app?
Again, my apologies for my ignorance in such matters. I'm fairly good with computers and even have some knowledge of troubleshooting Android devices, but I know absolutely zero about rooting/flashing/etc.
Many thanks all!

Hello mate. You have chosen the correct forum.
I was comparing verizon HTC One M9 with International M9.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/vzw/...iceProdId=dev4120028&priceToggle=24#techspecs
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_m9-6891.php.
If you see the specs, you'd find that Verizon has not listed radio at all. If it is verizon that is blocking the radio, it can be used through a mod/ root or using another app However, if it has not got a radio antenna inside, I'm afraid no amount of apps or mods would work.
Try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikersmicros.fm_unlock
I hope this is enough. If you still got question, quote me and I'd be happy to help you out.

I have a situation here ... I have quite massive battery drain from Google Play Services on my HTC One M9. I check with my gf Samsung Galaxy S6 and her G play services were about 1%. My were almost 50%... The only difference is I use LG G Watch R paired to my phone but I tried disconnecting it and still same... I use Google Fit and also tried disabling it but not much of a difference. There was about 10% less of drain when I put my location on battery save. But it is still over the ruff with that drain. My device is not rooted so I can't check battery wakes ... I kinda don't know what to do any more. Has any one had problem like this and how did you solve it?
I am thankful for any responses or ideas. (Sorry for bad English)

Go into Google play and uninstall updates. Do the same for google play services. Turn off google location services and keep location on low battery use (GPS only)
Read this guide as you'd be updating your apps manually. Make sure you note down version of google play services /google play. In case a new update comes, you can try and see if battery drain is fixed.
Quote me back with your results.

Actually it depends what you like to do with your phone. Do you root it as well or not.
I always like to root all my devices. Therefore, Titanium Backup is an app I can not live without.
SuperSu pro paid version is worth it for I like to support the developer who puts so much effort.
Mx Player Pro is also great for movies. BS Player is something I would recommend as well. I use both of them for videos
Next is Moon+Reader which is also great for reading books (PDF, EPUB, MOBI and lots of other files supported)
It is also wise to invest in OfficeSuite. It is also worth it.
CamScanner Pro is also worth it as you can scan documents from your phone!
I also like SD Maid Pro (root) to clear up cache / unused files.
Then , there are lots of games to play.
If you can tell me what kind of apps you are interested in, maybe I can shed some more light

Hey all, I got a few questions regarding installing a custom ROM
I just unlocked, flashed a custom recovery (TWRMP) and flash superuser.
1. Can't make a nandroid backup of the stock ROM, sais the backup size is 0 bytes, is this normal?
2. can't get into recovery the old fashion way (power + volume down), instead I use ADB. I fear when I try to flash and I get into bootloop for w/e reason, I can't get into recovery at all. How can I solve this?
3. is there a no sense ROM somewhere out there?
4. What is AROMA? is it a custom recovery?
thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. Find all the guides in this forum in second post and I suggest you look at the first few posts as well.
1. No, 0 bytes is not normal at all
2. Sometimes, the normal keys do not work because a proper exploit has not been found till date and thus, they are using a work around for that. Give it time, a developer will soon come up with a proper fix.
3. yes, all roms based on AOSP and CM would be without HTC sense. Check in the development section of this device to see if there has been development. As for now, there have not been any but I am sure many would come up pretty soon. As a general rule, all roms based on stock usually come with Sense, while all custom roms based on CM/AOSP or themselves are Sense Free.
4. AROMA is basically a smart way to flash any recovery/kernel/ rom. Usually in Aroma, small details can be chosen to your likings (In case of kernel, you can select, its governors, mods, processor and GPU clockspeed, etc). So Aroma gives more choice over normal flash.

Here is a guide for all errors regarding Playstore. See if any of these help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733038
Are you using some kind of add blocker or apps which hack playstore ?
Have you tried downloading via data /another wifi.
I also suggest if you are rooted, go to device/etc and delete "hosts file" if clearing cache and data is not helping.
Sometimes removing your account and clearing data/cache and relogging in helps.

Hi!
I searched well but didn't found any information about this.
I want to unlock bootloader and S-OFF, but WITHOUT using HTCDev at all. I don't want that any info goes to them. Is there a method to do it at home without searching for people with "programmators" or "javacards"?
Do you know where the location of the screen off animation is please?
I don't mean the boot / shut down animation, i mean the animation which occurs when we lock the device, it used to be the CRT animation but it's been removed, what we have now is a fade animation, on the S6 this has been modified, i'd like to do the same with our M9's but i'm not sure of the location.
Cheers,

Well, actually unless a developer finds an exploit to S-OFF a device/ unlock bootloader without HTCDev, I do not think there is a way to do that. Currently I am not sure of any developer working on it and I am not much hopeful that someone would when it is already available officially.
In my experience, I have been using android for a long time now from 2009, unlocking a device does not make any difference . Every device I bought, I unlocked it using official tools provided by manufacturer and never regretted it.
Also, usually it is in terms that your warranty could be voided, however, usually first time you mess up your phone and take it for support, they warn you and reinstall the software for you. And mostly they do not give much damn about it. (That's how it happens in the UK)

Actually I am not sure where it is exactly either. However, it could be that they have integrated in SystemUI or made an apk for individual effect.
If you are rooted, install any app by which you can see system apps, and look for any app that shows animation/effect/fade etc.
See if that helps, however , if it does not, I will research for you and get back but make sure you quote me ! Or you can use xposed to manually find/change the effect.

Don't mention it mate. No trouble.
Glad I could be of help.
Ive see ROMs showing they need or require me to be on a certain firmware before using that ROM. How do I update the firmware? I thought that came with the ROM, as part of it. Some are requiring firmware I don't even see posted yet. If i were to install a firmware, will that change or wipe the current ROM? Also some require me to be s-off. I think, if read right, I need the $25 app to s-off? Correct? What is the reason to s-off? I've been running ROMs that don't require it, seem to work fine.

honestly I am not sure of the $25 price for an app which is claiming to S off device.
If it is sunshine S off, I approve, else it could be a scam or the real thing.
I succesffully download the sunshine app for free but i didnot run it on my android so I am not sure!
There are few links you must see, how to unlock S for your device.

As far as upgrading your STOCK ROM is concerned, Look at this guide. There are also some unofficial ways
http://www.htc.com/uk/support/htc-one-m9/howto/602178.html
S off is basically a lock on your device which prevents flashing custom Roms and modification to your device via scripts.

The Sunshine app is developed by a several XDA recognized developers. Read about it in the official thread. At the website they set up, they offer some information about themselves as well as some answers to frequently asked questions.
I haven't been around this device to speak knowledgeably about it's related hacks, but this seems legitimate.

Newcomer Questions

Hello, so I'm going to be receiving my HTC One M9 tommorrow morning, and I was hoping the XDA community could help me with some fundemental questions regarding my new phone.
So, first off, this is a Verizon version, but I'm 95% certain that it comes factory unlocked. HTC6535LVWSG. I hear some people have issues rooting/S-OFFing the Verizon version (VZW at least, but I don't think mine is), but if it's not that version (or already unlocked, for that matter), does that mean that I will be able to load up any recovery from here? Assuming that I've gotten a recovery installed (my past phone was an EVO 3D, which I've tinkered quite a bit with), will I be able to use ROMs posted here? Or will I need to use specially made Verizon ROMs?
All of that aside, do you know where I can find the Marshmellow RUU that I heard just came out for the M9? As mentioned in the earlier paragraph, will I need a special GSM version for it?
EDIT: I found the news post at HTC, I'm assuming that it would work for any M9.
Thanks for anyone who responds!

NO! SLOW DOWN!
If you get a Verizon M9 do not flash anything!! Unless its specifically for the Verizon M9 or the developer of the ROM/Kernel states it will work with CDMA or Verizon M9's.
As of right now only the GSM Marshmallow update is out. Do not flash this RUU/update on a Verizon M9. It's better if you start off by just looking around for Verizon M9 threads. Ask questions in other threads if that particular ROM or file will work on a Verizon M9 or better yet read through most if not all the posts in those threads because more often than not someone in your shoes has already asked the same question.
But if you received a locked/S-ON device do not update/change anything on that phone until you've freshen up on whether or not S-OFF/Rooting is available for the software that comes already on it. It'll save you the headache of playing around with a new phone and it auto updates now your stuck without S-OFF.
Also don't ask questions in "General" that's what the Q&A section is for.
Congratulations! I think you'll be pleased with the M9.
Diaclaimer: I'm a hobbyist and not an expert - you should do some reading of threads and
research before attempting to hack your phone.
A few things:
- you may find better help in the Verizon HTC M9 forums (http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-one-m9)
- S-OFF is currently only possible on Verizon's variant of the M9 via a Java Clip. They're expensive, but there are fellow XDA members who own them and are willing to use theirs on your phone, usually for a reasonable fee
- until your bootloader is unlocked (pretty sure that your phone will NOT come that way - Verizon is not user-friendly) or you are S-OFF, you will not be able to flash a custom anything (recovery or ROM). Attempting to do so may render your phone unusable.
- Marshmallow has been released officially for the developer/unlocked variant of the M9, which is GSM-only. The Verizon variant is CDMA; the RUU will fail to install on your device.
Hope this is helpful. You probably have a bit more effort to go through to be able to hack your phone, but it's very doable and worth the effort. The M9 is a solid device and all the moreso once you have S-OFF (or an unlocked bootloader) and root.
Unfortunately, UPS Next Day Air has failed me, with yet another delay, so I won't have the phone today. :v
I know it's already paid off, and I'm pretty sure it's factory unlocked. What determines if it's a VWZ version or not? How does this affect my modding processes? I hear of several people who can do stuff to "non-VWZ" versions.

Not for the vzw m9. Big difference is the versions they can do already can use htc dev to bootloader unlock and root. Vzw is another can of worms because we need a root exploit before anything can happen.

So, I got the phone today. It was supposed to be delayed but I guess they managed to deliver it! I have to go, so the phone is gonna sit here for a couple hours, but it can boot into the bootloader (I'm not sure if this is a sign that it can be unlocked, but we'll see, I guess.)

Any phone can boot into the bootloader. To determine your phone's status, you'll need to look at the upper left corner when you are in bootloader mode: does it say 'unlocked' or 'locked'? Similarly, does it say 'S-ON' or 'S-OFF'?
First of all you should, in my opinion, deal with the differences of a CDSM to a GSM device in detail and read especially the Verizon specific threads in this forum very carefull.
Seconed to it you should pick up the full information about block based OTA politics, and the major changes regarding moddifications to Android 5.1.1. If never done before you should also read the basic threads abaut unlocking, rooting, fastboot as well as adb commands. If need for further help occurs it is hightly important to be able to explain when, where and assumingly why a problem/error occured.
Besides this have fun with your One M9!

Ah, I know the ins and outs of adb and fastboot already, as I've had my fair share of working with the HTC bootloader-- however I just wanted to clarify some things that I had not previously known. Thanks for the advise, though.
Guys please, anyone can verify that the buttons (power and volume) are a bit 'down after a few months of use??

I've been struggling with this phone for a while.

I have a problem with my HTC one M8 At&t (It's unlocked to any provider) it's also rooted so if you can help me either unroot it or add a ROM that would be so helpful.
Well the problem with my phone is.
1) It won't update to 6.0 its stuck on 5.0.2
2) ROMS won't install at all. Maybe because it doesn't have TWRP (I don't know where to get that)
3) The phone is S-on relocked and it says "This device has been tampered' then a warning
I asked HTC and they didn't help at all. I asked people that I know but they are IOS.
So this is the last resort. I was recommended by a friend to ask you wonderful people. I mean i have some knowledge but it don't have anyone to show me the ropes of how to do it. But please if you guys can help add link with steps.
Thank you and have a good day dudes.

I'd suggest you watch this video to install TWRP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HWj_1KHbuY
And then I'd also recommend installing CM13 since it's really stable. It can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...m-cyanogenmod-13-0-nightlies-htc-one-t3256696

1. If it is AT&T, it won't update on non-AT&T network.
2. Unlock bootloader and install TWRP
3. The phone was unlocked before and now it is relocked.
Post fastboot getvar all without serial & imei no to confirm which device variant that you have and what to do with it.

I would suggest the OP not follow that video. Followed literally, it will not only direct the OP to install a horribly obsolete version of TWRP, but also one that is not intended for his version of the M8. The "wlv" version TWRP in the video is for Verizon, and would install TWRP to the wrong partition, maybe even brick the phone. TWRP has since been updated and unified to identify the M8 version, and install on the proper partition accordingly; but such was not the case at the time the video was created.
This is one of the main reasons I don't recommend rooting by watching YouTube videos. They aren't detailed enough to point out all the nuances and potential pitfalls of the process. They just spoonfeed enough knowledge to you get you into big trouble, without any knowledge or skills to get you out of that hole.
Also, the random "root" website referenced in the video doesn't appear to have any downloadable files any longer, anyway. At least not that I can find, upon examination. So if the OP that route, they would have hit a dead end. I also personally don't recommend such "root" websites, as they almost always just steal content from XDA, without giving proper credit.
All the info the OP needs is right here on XDA. An excellent guide for unlocking the bootloader and installing custom recovery is here. Although the guide is dated (hard for anything for this phone to not be dated at this point - it is over 2 years old) and I have the following additional advice:
- HTC drivers on the guide are dated. But if you plug the phone into your PC, it should auto-install HTC Sync and the required drivers
- You can get TWRP right from the source here. I'm not sure if your existing firmware will play well with the latest version (TWRP 3.0.x), but I'm pretty sure version 2.8.7.0 will work well (and known to be very stable).
- Only need to follow the guide through "ROOTING YOUR DEVICE" Step 8, that is unlocking the bootloader and installing custom recovery (don't flash SuperSU). From there, get the desired custom ROM on the phone, boot into TWRP, backup the current stock ROM, then do default wipe (data, cache, Dalvik) in TWRP and flash the ROM.

An alternative would be to flash the Marshmallow RUU to update to full stock image. But in order to do so, the OP will have to update to Marshmallow firmware (which requires some knowledge of using fastboot) and then run the Marshmallow RUU. The RUU in listed on my AT&T M8 Index thread here (along with a lot of other useful info), with the info/link for flashing firmware highlighted in red text.

HTC Desire 626S Bootloader unlock/Root Marshmallow beginner help

Need some 101 help and explanations. I am much more familiar with Apple and have only rooted one inexpensive Android that I learned to do from here. It was an early ZTC and although I rooted it, I did not learn that much because it was a very basic phone. Purchased a preowned HTC Desire 626S T-Mobile so it already has been updated to Marshmallow.
SPECS
HTC Desire 626S T-Mobile
Android 6.0.1. HTC Sense Version 7.0 Software 2.17.531.13
Developer options enabled with OEM unlocking and USB debugging checked. Unchecked verify apps over USB.
Have windows laptop computer 2640M processor, lots of RAM and Win 10.
1.) Can't figure out how to unlock bootloader
Went to HTC developer website. Entered in the phone - HTC Desire*. The next step says that if the software version that I have (2.17.531.13) is earlier than what is listed on their list that I have to download the RUU. So I look at the list and do not know which T-MObile entry I should be looking at. These are the entries that remotely resemble T-Mobile
TMO PL 2.15.118.2
TMO UK 2.29.110.6
TMO AT 2.29.112.6
I am in the US so I figured the UK one can be eliminated. That leaves 2 left. If it is the first one - then my version is later and I can go to step 2. If it is the third one, then I have to download the RUU.
So which one of these, TMO PL 2.15.118.2 or TMO AT 2.29.112.6 is the one I should be using?
I think I can then proceed and figure it out from there ---unless someone recommends a different way to unlock bootloader.
2.) How do I root 6.0?
Any of the instructions I have found are for Lollipop. I found one thread at Android forums (can't post thread yet) but it is titled. htc-desire-626s-rooted-how-to-ota-marshmallow-update-re-root.1055825/ but that talks about an already rooted phone.
Am I able to root?
Can someone direct me to instructions that really explain along the way so I can follow along?
If I am able to root, can someone recommend a ROM that is easy to work with and provide flashing info. My goal is to have a simple stock Android interface that I can play around with and get rid of the HTC overlay stuff.
Many MANY thanks.

Look up HTC Desire 626S XDA on google please, because there IS an actual thread on this device (and some amazing people working on it too) but its one of those devices they sorta crammed into the threads with the regular 626 -.-. I do hope I helped out as I have had this device, you need to unlock your bootloader to gain root, its just some added work via PC with CMD or terminal, for your phone to be rooted .

Yea I had it for a short time however, the Sunshine app is the best way to go in my opinion
I have the same phone.
I unlocked the boot loader and the web site told me that same BS. I put in my unlock token and they sent me an unlock code. It worked just fine.
Thanks everyone. I sold it --- lol. I'm going to look for a large screen android that I can root.Wanted a Phab 2 pro but it looks like they are discontinued.
