Nextbit Robin - Doesit worth to buy it in 2017

Since it costs 130 $ now and it support will end in february does its worth to pick it up now? my bugget is 200 $
Yes, I actually just bought myself another one this morning! I think of them as a steal when it comes to the pricing compared to the specs. I have a good feeling they'll support 8.0 since they managed 2 7.0 updates within the year
With your budget you can almost buy two. Colors are limited unless you want Mint, but new ones are going for as low as 109.99 on a certain auction site. From trusted (certified) sellers.
I was "lucky" my three year old decided my Honor 5x needed a bath a couple of months ago when I stupidly left it on a chair. I snagged an emergency replacement NIB Electric Blue Robin for 99.00 by using a rebate code.

A seller on eBay, they were running a sale at 114.00 and I had a 25.00 off 100.00 or more coupon code. This was a couple months ago and if the same seller has any left they're all the Mint color.
I try not to advertise specific sites, but I am not selling any phones at this time and I am in no way related to anyone selling the Nextbit Robin.

Guessing I purchased mine on the same deal - it went for $115 (USD) with a %15 coupon, total of $100.
I looked on slickdeals.net, found that deal post from 2017-06-26 (expired). Seller was BuySPRY:
* https://slickdeals.net/f/10291048-n...ed-android-smartphone-99-99-fs?src=SiteSearch
Seems the same seller has posted three more sales since then, one appears to be going on now.
* $115 on 2017-06-28 (expired): https://slickdeals.net/f/10296728-n...one-115-fs-ebay-daily-deal?v=1&src=SiteSearch

Note, I'm not promoting or advocating the seller or sales platform, rather I'm mainly hoping only to report on deal postings. Since I bought my phone, I haven't seen any other deals from other sellers via slickdeals. I would share those too if I found any.
My quick take on buying this phone - true there is no longer warranty service for it if you need to make a new claim. But given that I've bought used phones for more money, with no warranty, makes this phone a good deal for the asking price. This phone is new and has the bonus of continued OS/Software updates through February 2018, even if we don't know how much more development we actually see. The other very positive note, especially for me, is the active XDA development. It's a nice upgrade from my Nexus 4.
Hope that helps.
Ember is incredibly hard to find, I have tried
wouldn't recommend it :/
The phone itself is brilliant when you first get it, but like all phones, deteriorates over time --- but a bit worse than most. The Nextbit system is built based on the Android OS, but an edited version, so originally, as each renewed version of the android OS was released, an update to the Nextbit OS would also be released. However, Nextbit has now been bought out by Razer, and as I understand Razer has since shut down everything related to the Robin. This means that the Android OS continues to be updated, but the Robin's modified OS is not --- & I think this is probably the root of many of my problems with the phone as of now. It's slow, the screen registers touches where there aren't any, the archiving system works too well and deletes apps in the middle of use, and images don't stay on the phone for longer than about three seconds ( and these are by far not the only problems :crying: ). In my opinion, buying the phone now would only cause you grief, since any further updates to the android OS will only further cause issues with the operation of the phone. It's pretty, and alright for the money, but you could get waaaaaaay more functional phones :victory:
Personally, I still think it's a good buy. Snappy phone with a good screen, nice front-facing speakers and 32 GB onboard storage. Although official updates are only through Feb 2018 (which is probably better than a lot of major brands offer for a phone at this price point), there is an active community with good rom support so it will live well beyond.
I picked mine up a few months ago at $140...Running resurrection remix and it's super smooth and fast...no regrets.
The robin is definitely worth buying in 2015, other phones with comparable specs are the moto g4 plus and g5, nexus 5x, and etc, but they all go for at least 100 or even 150 more than this phone. Plus this phones dev support is great, and i wouldnt be surprised if we got custom roms for android 8 a few months after the official release, i got my robin from buyspry on ebayr for 109, great deal for the money. Plus i had a 100 gift card so i really got this phone for 10 bucks, a killer value. That being said the nextbit skin on top of android 100% sucks, and i dont buy into their cloud integration with storage at all. However, its easy to get around all of that with the custom roms, imo they have better performance and give better screen on time. with stock i got about 3 hours, with aicp (my new daily driver) i can put whatever customization on andorid (i have customized it too look exactly like the pixel) i want and still get great performance (4 hours of screen on time)

I get better mileage than that but yes, you got a great deal and the phone is definitely worth it. Worse case scenario, they get rid of the 100gb cloud integration, other than that, it performs well and of course, you cannot go wrong with a 6 core phone. The first thing that I did was root, recovery and rom. The 3 "R's" I don't use the cloud, I use titanium backup for all of its settings that the cloud doesn't offer. AOKP for me has been one of the most rock solid ROMs and has all of the settings that you'd expect plus some. Performance, lag free and smooth gaming. The Robin Stock rom rooted is amazing as well but its just a little heavier then custom and of course, that's because it's the rom with Gapps pre-installed.

Still worth buying?

I'm wanting to get a bigger Android tablet, and while the Nexus 9 exists, I just hear horror stories about it. That said, the Pixel C seems very hard to find and pretty expensive, so is it still worth getting, and if so, where in Canada can I find one (used is fine) for a decent price?
I really like my Pixel C. But is it worth it at current prices? I'd say no, not by a long shot. It's two years old. You can get a Galaxy Tab S2 or S3 for much less. You can get a giant Windows tablet and install Android.
In fact, if people are actually paying $500-600 for these things then maybe I should sell mine.
Yeah, the only Pixel C's I see on Kijiji around me are $500-600 CAD, Nexus 9's go for around half that
I have had mine for less than a month and I am already looking for a replacement. I dont like it.

Personally, I'd wait until the pixel/xl launch in case of any surprise announcements. If they say nothing, I'd be worried for the future of android tablets.
I'm kind of hoping for something to come of the chrome OS/Andromeda/fuchsia OS rumours in tablet form.
Well I ended up getting it, love it so far!
It was just so heavy vs my Samsung. If I drop this on my dog he will die ..lol
I was about to start a thread asking pretty much the same thing. I'm soooo done with other companies skins and such, and I want stock Android on all my devices. Soooo, I was looking at the pixel c, but it IS 2 years old, and the cheapest I can find it is the google store where it's $600... I would def get it if it were $300. But, like you all said, there are no tablets that are worth a crap! I really hesitate to buy another Samsung, because my note 10.1 2014 battery went to crap barely AFTER the warranty expired of course... So, I've had the $550 tab for 3 years with a battery that makes it so I can't hardly do anything on it. Games, even Chrome are out (I can literally watch the battery drain). The new pixel chromebook starts at $1000, so that's out too. Not sure what to do here! Does anyone know how long the pixel c will get Android updates for? I suppose that might sell me or turn me away.

I love it, too.
So, I contacted Google support to ask about OS/security updates. Looks like Oreo is the last OS update this tab will get. Security updates will continue for 18 months AFTER they finally remove the tablet from the Google store. Sooo, considering that, I just don't think I can bring myself to spend $600 on a two year old tablet that will not get anymore Android updates... Honestly, at two years old, this tablet is in no way worth $600! I would think the price should be more like $300 or so by now. Not sure why Google thinks they should charge that... Anyway, thanks anyway. I think I'm out on this one.

I'm still a fan here too, got one (64GB) off Swappa for just under $400 I think that is fair. But IMHO I agree $600 is quite a bit much, $400-ish is fair.
It is still a very nice device, and has stock google android, try that on a Samsung or ASUS, not gonna happen. Good luck even getting to 7.12 on those.
You can buy it on eBay. There is a pixel c selling with keyboard and case fore $380 right now. Buy it
I'd say yes! I got mine for $360 on eBay in December. I got a really nice case for only $15. Especially now that we have a RR ROM for Oreo, it totally rocks!
I just picked a 64G one w/ keyboard up 2nd hand off of ebay for a little less than $500. Probably still too much to pay, but I didn't want to go Samsung, so what are you gonna do? Worlds better than my aging nexus 9. Worth it in my opinion.

What are the earbuds that with the G5 in your country this crap too?

I'm pretty okay with all the rest of this phone, however the earbuds have really disappointed me, so much less than I expected from Motorola, they use to bundle better earbuds with their phones back in the days it was owned by Google (and prior to that).
Now they're shipping the Moto G5 with a pair of plasticky chinese rubbish, of which the only positive point is that it fits correctly into my ears, however all the rest sucks, the sound quality sucks, the build and the design sucks completely, the cord sucks... everything...
I don't know if it's only the Brazilian version, but I can buy a better pair of easbuds for about $5 in any store... I'm pretty sure of that, take a look at it, the most shameless and crappy - and the most chinese too, I suspect - buds I ever had...
Any phone Iv even bought the headphones are not very good quality - remember you are buying a phone not some headphones - if they provide high quality headphones the price of the phone will go up. I don't know about you but I would rather have the money I'm spending invested in the phone & not gimmicks that come with it.
Since this phone has a headphone jack you can buy your own quality headphones to use across all your current and future devices
Mine didn't even come with headphones and I paid like USD 320 for it, so feel lucky about it.
Most of the budget moto phones comes with the crappy headphone you received. I received the same with Moto E4 Plus.
LOL
I really do not know why you people are complaining about. You bought a Phone the headsets are a bonus and this happens with a lot of phones. Ex: The cameras from every phones are a joke when compared with professional cameras.

What you said is pretty obvious, I already knew that a priori, that is, even if you didn't ever say anything, I would already know it.
It surprises me that nowadays in the internet forums it's like this: you write a post or a rant and someone comes with sideline comments that don't aim at the addressed issue's core. In other words, they answer your question, except for they didn't answer your question. Your comment seems totally irrelevant to the question I asked, seems more like it's attempt on bashing on me?
But maybe you misunderstood my purpose, so let me further clarify the purpose of my question, lest one misunderstands me once again.
I wrote this just because in the past I had other Motorola phones that came with at least regular or good phones, and now they're shipping with this crappy one. It goes all back to the P2K and the EZX eras. I had the Rokr E1, Rokr W5, Rokr E2, Rokr Z6, then the classy Razr V8. Now, this is the first time I buy a brand new Motorola phone in Android times, and having admired the brand for so much time, and having PAID MONEY for it, have you the right to say, be it in the internet, that I'm surprised (not angry or mad about that though :good of how crappy it is that they have included so cheap an accessory with their latest phone, an accessory so cheap that it probably didn't cost them a dollar, one that would have been better not to be included in the pack, IMO.
So point one is: this post is a rant and maybe an opportunity for discussion on the topic, which, as far as I know, are legal modalities in this community.
Point two is just the core of my question, the source of my quenches and doubts, which by the way moved my human nature with the deep necessity to ask other people if they are experiencing the same thing and if they have the same opinion, which by the way is completely legal in this community as well.
So point #2: I wished to know if it was only in Brazil that Motorola were shipping these earbuds, in other words if it was standard practice or not.
Now, as you see, when people ask things they have underlying reasons to do so, even if it - to your very eyes - looks absolutely like they don't.
So take no offense, just as I intend not to take any from you, or from anyone else in the internet. I encourage you to take my sarcasm as cold reasoning, of which the intention is to be a corrective measure, in search of one thing that we have a need for nowadays, that is, politeness in the internet...

Yes these discussions are perfectly fine however discussions really belong in the general section but I understand why you may have posted in the question and answer section
Yes these earphones are shipped with UK models too
In actual fact they are probably better than Samsung headphones which shipped with their galaxy phones as they are an even worse & more uncomfortable plastic
Goes back to my point of companies really just include these for testing purposes - to say here's some headphones so you can check all the phones hardware & functionality works. Because what they don't want is someone saying my headphone jack is faulty & they go well did you test it when you purchased it & the customer goes no I didn't have any headphones. Imagine if this complaint happened months after they bought it. In UK law technically its the retailer that should sort it but its a grey area & alot of hassle - after a year & the warranty is gone you have no chance without paying.
I know all that is a bit extreme but really it's the manufacturer saying well we gave you all the tools to test the product to make sure it works so we can provide a high level of customer service.
They may have been better quality in the past however with rising costs & the manufacturers wanting to keep prices low they look at how they can cut costs & remain competitive whilst keeping a quality product. At the end of the day as I said before you are buying a phone so anything else they can cut back on they will.

How is the Oneplus Experience in India?

Hi,
I am thinking of buying a oneplus device , the coming month, as it seems to me the most value for money smartphone in the premium handset segment. The reviews are always great , but having always used a samsung or apple flagship ......I have a couple of questions to ask.
1. Customer Care service in India? :
I have been googling around and it seems Oneplus doesn't have a robust and a customer friendly Customer service network. There have been articles of people getting a invoice....twice the amount of the phone itself or amazon dragging its heals when it comes to replacing/refunding for a faulty unit.
I understand, probably apart from Nokia/Samsung/Apple, most companies don't provide good service in India. But one is more apprehensive about brands like Oneplus, Xiaomi, Vivo etc who rely mostly on online sales model and are relatively new. Also, you have videos from youtubers which slam these chinese brands for their after-sales service or the lack of it...
2. Durability/ Longevity ?
The other most heard complaint/opinion is that if the phone is priced less, then the company must have cut corners to save cost...Is oneplus doing so? There are videos on youtube which show it's black coating on the back panel isn't as durable, even if you use a cover.
I am looking for an honest opinion and please don't start a apple/samsung vs oneplus war here. I have for quite some time believed that 60-70 K charged by apple and samsung is a little too much when everyone knows that it cost less than half to make them... A price of around 40-44k is pretty ok , but not more.
Waiting for your opinions...
wait for 6T if u can
or buy 1+6

Anybody cancelling their order(s) because of the HORRIBLE reviews?

Been reading every review I've come across on the 20 U and they all have been saying the same thing, not worth the money, camera is barely better than 10, if at all. Has anyone cancelled their order because of this and going to wait it out? On the fence, as I've seen the pixel "getting fixed" , now several months later and still isn't. If anyone has come across a review, post latest update, please share. TIA

Nope. Because the reviews out at this point are early impressions based on not reaching expectations based on hype. Nothing ever hits that, and every phone review is basically the same as a result.
In the end, this is the best Android phone out there, and likely will remain the best for a year. Nobody else does "no compromises" phones anymore, because everyone else knows nobody will pay the money that it costs to do it. Samsung is the only player out there willing to take the risk of putting out a phone that checks all the boxes, and that's all I really care about - I am tired of paying close to a thousand bucks for a phone that has skimped out and leaves me wanting to upgrade a year later, and at this point in my life I can afford to pay more so I can just keep my damned phone for 2 or 3 years rather than regretting some annoyance 6 months later.
Nope, as long as it is better than my Pixel 4 xl.

I didn't get the impression that anyone was saying the camera wasn't better than the S10, only that the autofocus is slower. The camera is better than everything and on par with the iPhone 11 pro from everything I read.
Granted, it's hard to say a $1400 phone is worth it for the average consumer when the Pixel 3a and Chinese phones exist.
Maybe because it looks worse than my Note 10+ which looks worse than my 11 Pro Max which is king when it comes to video and night mode!
My delivery date is 03/17/2020 so plenty of time. Don't think that cancel button is going away any time soon. Real reviews will be live in a week running updated firmware.
After learning of the Samsung store's 15% restocking fee (!), I certainly don't want to make a $240 mistake.
Reviews are not horrible and everyone forget that phone is still 1 full week from officially launching. Everytime I get a phone on launch day, as it activates I get a software update. I'll be super surprised if there isn't a big update in the works coming in a few days
I'm going to try the phone out myself. People get way too emotional about new phones to give objective opinions and as others said, it isn't even released yet. I too have a P4XL and if I like it better, I'll keep it. I can afford it or I wouldn't have ordered it. I also just read Samsung's return policy on their website. It says you have 15 days to return a phone at no cost to you, shipping is even covered. I returned a phone a couple years ago and that's how it was. If that policy had changed I would think their website would reflect the change. returns

We know for certain that there's an update to let you turn on 120hz mode at full resolution, and one to improve auto-focus performance.
The auto-focus thing is not really a focus issue so much as an artifact that has to do with the larger sensors and lenses - it behaves a lot more like an SLR than a phone camera in terms of focal length and F.stop, and hence the depth of field detection needs tuning. It's the same reason that the phone gives such incredible bokeh even without turning on portrait mode. Think of it more like the transition from fixed focus to auto-focus cameras, and how people had trouble getting good shots in the early days. More savvy reviewers picked up on this and were already correcting for it themselves by the time of their reviews.
Bottom line is this isn't likely ever going to be as "point and shoot" as other phones are, but they can tune things better than they are now and are working on doing so. In exchange, when you go into pro mode you should be able to do a lot of things that you simply can't with other phone cameras.
Most of the negativity has been about:
Value for money
Specific camera attributes especially the worthiness of 100x zoom
Battery impact of 120Hz refresh rate
Size, weight, and protrusion of the camera array
Missing headphone jack
Boring and limited colors
My thoughts:
With $1K phones not so unusual any more I guess value is relative. With Samsung's liberal trade-in programs a lot of people are going to being paying a lot that than $1.3K.
From reading the reviews improved low light, excellent zoom up to 10x, and multiple ways to take everyday photos will make the camera great and a step up based on the way I use it. I do think some of the issues like occasionally wonky auto focus will be corrected with s/w.
I'll probably use 120Hz and probably have more than enough battery to get through my day. I'll turn it off when I'm travelling when battery is more important than smoothness. I'd bet fine tuning via s/w improves 120Hz performance over time.
I currently have a Galaxy Fold so the S20 Ultra will seem small. But for those used to big phones it's just another big phone. The camera array is pretty in your face but most cases minimize it. I ordered a black phone to help make the camera array less in your face.
Yesterday's news.
Whether black and gray are livable is individually subjective. Don't like black and gray? Don't buy the phone.
This is the first 5G phone that theoretically supports the deployed bands. That's kind of big and kind of cool. I'm on AT&T and cities I travel to have real 5G so it'll be neat using it. AT&T'rs with long term plans for this phone keep in mind their changing their topology in 2021 and it won't work after that. Other than that it's just another solid evolution of the things Samsung does well. I'm guessing for those buying it the phone's assets weighed against its liabilities still make it worth purchasing. To each their own.
How many people actually stop and write a good review, very few because they are busy enjoying their new phone.
I'm gonna rock the Ultra 5g 512gb.Cosmic Black and wait till the Note 20 5g drops and see how Samsung improves and streamlines from the S20 Ultra to the Note 20 plus, with the trade ins each time and the bonus credits of preordering,Still not a bad deal, plus 6.9 inch 120 htz.refresh rate.I'm perfectly happy with that.as for the bland colors I always put a case on it from day one so problem solved on that, but I dont mind Cosmic Black at all either.

My delivery date is 03/17/2020 so plenty of time. Don't think that cancel button is going away any time soon. Real reviews will be live in a week running updated firmware.
After learning of the Samsung store's 15% restocking fee (!), I certainly don't want to make a $240 mistake.

Where did you hear about a 15% restocking fee? I don't see anything about that on the Samsung site (at least for the US Store) and I chatted with a Samsung rep who confirmed that there is no restocking fee for opened phones.

Samsung seems to have multiple FAQ stores, some claim 15% on most items, others don't.
I returned a S10+, and don't remember a restocking fee, but I also have problems remembering what I did yesterday so.
My new S20 Ultra is here
On Friday, I got my brand new, cosmic black S20 Ultra, to replace my S10+ and there is no doubt that the S20 Ultra is the best phone I have ever used. It is better in every respect than any other phone including the note 10+: The screen is unbelievable sharp with amazing colors and contrast. Camera is quick and snappy and the photos are the best I have ever seen from a phone. So, don't hesitate!! Buy this phone and you won't regret it!! I also got the best case for the S20, the Speck Presidio Grip.. Expensive but the best money can buy.. Go for it

What SW is it running? Does it have the new one with supposedly updated camera sw?
i dont really trust the reviewers on youtube. there will always be criticisms to try to be objective. but all the reviews are subjective no matter what.
people are going to say 5g is not worth it yet. but later, 5g will be used all over, and this phone will not be outdated by not having 5g.
i guess what im saying is, there are uneducated reviews about products on youtube

Honestly, I have not read any horrible reviews. What I have read are several excellent reviews that also mention there are some issues with the Camera - but which look like they can be fixed with a future software update.
Certainly, it would be ideal to get a new phone and have everything work perfectly - -unfortunately, that isn't reality. The S20 Ultra still appears be an incredible phone - it just has a few software issues that need to be taken care of. I am stil feeling really good about the phone and feel confident that Samsung will provide u pdates to otake care of those issues.

4G still good today. Also, 5G will not be avaliable in every country in at least 10 years so, unless you live in US or any country that has any plans of starting to use 5G in a short period of time (2-4 years), is pretty worthless. Probably after 3-4 years (being generous) you will change your phone and you would never have used 5G in that time.
