This Phone Sucks I Want The Flat Version :( - Galaxy S6 Edge+ General

Seriously I accidently (and stupidly) checked the G920 forums original android dev section and the blowup of AOSP based ROMs is just getting cruel as I sit on a crippled TW base :/.
Same SoC, yet no love

I feel your pain bro.

Same here :/ and I just got the phone , going to wait till next year for the s9/s9 plus

OUCH I landed mine this Summer sometime and an Ex GF actually FRP locked it, so I was pretty happy just to break that lock, then found CM13 floating around here right after, & probably just assumed we were going full throttle like all other flagships from Sammy.
Even Android File Hosts developer counts.
Note 5 130ish devs reported? Like 7 pages of names.
s6 Edge+ devs reported at somewhere around 30 total. Is this even seriously happening?
They are ALL THE SAME DEVICE Why we don't just have an *Exynos7420 device area is beyond me, we would go alot further merging all the TWRP commits into a universal for whole SoC lineup then carrier Variants to simplify it all again, instead with the way it is I have no clue what is possible and a good idea or totally stupid and a bootloop in the making. >.<

I feel like part of the problem may be users that don't roll up their sleeves and learn to contribute to the community. If there's a project you want to see, and it doesn't exist, start it. It looks like you'd have lots of greatful people.

How? There are plenty of projects on the same SoC with no desire to port to the 4 or 5 users (Us) that care

Personally I just sold this phone for $80 today over this, and the fact for 6mths its been nothing but a headache, 6mths of learning googling and tinkering, + probably 2tb in total internet data for this. I still don't quite understand the finer details of this device, and to be totally honest, I wouldn't want to, it all seems to be about rerouting and fixing up stuff to work around AOSP code.

If you really thought about getting an Exynos or a Samsung device in general just for tinkering and community involvement, it was your mistake from the start. even if the S6/Note 5 have more support than the edge plus (which mainly because of the sales/price difference between the regular edge and the plus) they are nothing but 10% of the support you will find for devices like the OnePlus, Xiaomi, Nexuses or even Crap Sony and mainly because these other manufacturers are more developer friendly and most of the time their code is very similar to AOSP.

Well if s6 , s6 edge and s6 edge+ are basically the same device, would s6 or s6 edge rom work on edge+?

It would. With (depends on which ROM) more or less modifications. MIUI in original development section is an S6 port.
Note 5 ROMs seems to be much easier to port (most likely just use an S6e+ kernel) because it's even more similar to our device.

Yes this is all true but the differences between the s6, s6 edge, s6e+, & also the note5 respectively share extremely similar traits with the other device that runs all kinds of fun stuff (Meizu Pro 5) and the only major difference I could grasp between them is the ODIN mode/Fastboot swaps + some minor stuff (hardware buttons, higher res camera, scanner on back of phone)
But they were still ALL the same manufacturing & SoC line (Sony Camera, Exynos7420) but the pro5 just magically somehow can be released with an Ubuntu Touch edition + CyanogenMod like cake??? I dont buy that man..... If it were such a hassle to do this phones hardware for devs, they wouldn't be just flexing it in the background like that......

Did you not see the comments or?
I got the device for free, I had no clue what was inside of it, also didn't care about the SoC since I had prior knowledge that Samsung would be a simple process with Odin & a CF package, what I hadn't counted on was TouchWiz still being the most bloated & unstable manufacturers slop on the market, also hadn't counted on it being the hardest overall to develop for, since most of the developers lost their XDA accounts eve attempting to bring CM13 up for the device, & don't get me wrong I have had plenty of HTC/Motorola devices & I sold my Nexus 7 not long ago, I'm familiar with AOSP (the thing these Samsung devs had to of started from) and just can't understand why they made is so much of a runaround process.

[Q] Cyanogenmod on Note 10.1 (2014)?

Hello mates,
My question is if you know if the Cyanogenmod team is working or will work in one of the SM-P605 ROM.
Thank you very much!

AFAIK at the moment there is no development, nor comments on plans for it. That being said, when you look at the Samsung lineup supported historically, it ought to get support at some point.
Also worth keeping an eye out for any OmniROM support in the future, which consists of a solid team of developers, including Chainfire. It will support S3 and Note II at some point, so perhaps more Samsung stuff will be added later. Note, that OmniROM will support multiwindow.

I was waiting for the release of the new Nexus 10, but as it seems that Google has other plans I have considered purchasing a Note 10.1 2014 Edition.
The problem is that I prefer pure Android on Samsung adds layers, so my question about Cyanogenmod ROMS.
If not they hope the team OmniROM get something going.

I was also waiting for the Nexus 10, I love my Nexus 7. The s-pen and multi-window convinced me to get this tablet though. So far I am very happy and use both features all the time. They are also the two most stable and well-designed features. Rest of Samsung's gimmicks I found pointless or too unreliable. I will try OmniROM as well if/when it comes out. Still need to sort out if the s-pen stuff will work just as well with OmniROM... but that is months away, at the moment we have root and the last bugs are being ironed out for the recovery, after that comes new ROMs and kernels I hope

I'm in the same boat. The third alternative I'm considering is Sony Xperia Tablet Z, which has slightly lesser specs (though it has better looks in my opinion) but is already supported by Cyanogenmod. Considering my current Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GSM) was never fully supported by CM (i.e. no stable versions), I don't really want to buy a tablet before I'm reasonably certain CM will work well on it...

Why would you make cm a requirement? Are other roms that have been fully de bloated etc and use a modified kernel, all that jazz, are they really that bad? Especially with an s pen...I may be wrong but I suspect that s pen useability would be sacrificed with a non tw rom

Well, my priorities are "stockness", UI customization (things like battery indicator, softbuttons, lockscreen shortcuts), stability (including a low amount of bugs), and Android version upgrades. While s pen is nice, its usability is an acceptable loss for me.
As for other more customized roms... As a Linux distribution and kernel developer myself, I believe a proper release process (including a long-ish stabilization period) and QA is a must on a project as large as Android roms to achieve a good level of stability, and CyanogenMod seems to be doing quite OK in those.
(I guess this doesn't apply that much to ROMs that are just minor modifications from manufacturer versions, since the possibility of regressions is much smaller on those)
I also don't care for specific kernel modifications or performance improvements etc. that much, the question I ask myself is "Why didn't the manufacturer do it like that in the first place?" or "Why doesn't CM do it?". If there's something I want that is missing from CM, I would submit it for inclusion in CM first, in which case it either gets merged in or refused (for a good reason, I'd hope). From what I've seen their policy has been reasonable and suited to my needs so far.

Can't we do a pledge thing and hope someone would help make the note 10.1 2014 reach it into cyanogenmod? I would definitely pledge a fair amount.

If you don't care about the S-pen, why even get this tablet at all!? There are a number of other tablets that while maybe lacking OTHER features than the active pen, but generally that's the specific feature that people get ANY of the Note series for.

The reason I got it was for multi windows only, and I'm sure with cyanogenmod we could come up with a mod for multi windows. This tab also has a beastly CPU and RAM which are other reasons I got this tab. I personally don't see using the pen much at all.

Personally I wanted the super high resolution, and the Nexus 10 is now getting long in the tooth and not available with 4G or 3G (and no way I'd go Apple!)
The pen would work with Cyanogen anyway (it did on my previous Galaxy Note I), you just lose the advanced functionalities. Plain Android has support for pen input.
CM is good and I use it on my Galaxy S3. However the multiwindow features for me personally are too good to give up. I figured I wouldn't use CM unless there's a multiwindow mod for it, or something like Omnirom should come out for this. The only other S-pen feature from the air view I find useful is pen window. Everything else is just gimmicks it feels like.
However I would really like a knox 0x0 root method first for the P600 version...sad to say it might not even happen at this point
really want it
Currently No Cyanogenmod rom has supported Multi window, So your probably out of luck OP you will lose Spen and multi window with cyanogen multiwindow is part of the touchwiz framework if I remember Correctly

You people make no sense. Why spend $600 on the most advanced tablet on the market only to attempt to install a ROM that will wipe out all of its selling features to then try and spend several hours finding a way to get those features back? I enjoy CM on my S3 as much as the next guy, but on this tablet it just makes no sense! Wait for Google to refresh the nexus 10 if you need stock Android that badly.
@¿Will-it-Blend?
Many reasons, Ill list some of the important ones:
1. I like samsung (Im a shareholder)
2. The tab in itself is good, so when I can chose to have a good tab with no extra features or a ****ty tab with no extra features I chose the good one.
3. Should any of the modders ever be capable of implementing the extra gadgets I already have a tab that can handle them, if not I have a good tab that can do the same as the ****ty tab but with more style
I hope this answered your question to your satisfaction, sadly you didnt even try to answer mine. Im still interested if anyone knows of any mods out there that support the extra features and are as stable and clean as CM? Or any mod for that tab, as at this moment my tab is laying around unused since there is no CM version for it.

I didn't answer your question because there are none . Ommi ROM has a multi-window feature but I highly doubt they will support this device. It will be some time before CM even supports this device. I feel sorry for you that you feel the need to cripple your device but it will still be a good while before you even see CM and it incorporates the features the stock ROM offers and for it to be just as stable as well. And that's if AOSP ROMS incorporate these features at all.
About the multiwindow on CM thing, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there's an xposed module that lets you use a feature similar to multiwindow.

How is the Custom Rom support for the Tab 8.4?

So I've been giving real consideration to picking up the 8.4 Tab, that screen is very nice. But like many I've been waiting on Google to announce the rumored Nexus 8 or 9. I have a Nexus 7 '12 I'm ready to replace. If I get the Tab, rooting and a custom rom is a given for me. I'm wondering how many roms support it though? The main roms I use are Cyanogenmod, Carbon, and Liquidsmooth. What roms are you guys using and what's been your experience rooting this device?
Any input would be appreciated fellas so thanks in advance.

Forget about custom roms.
It's an Exynos chipset so of course the options are limited and dev support will remain nearly zero. The last Samsung device with Exynos to experience decent dev support was the Note 2 a couple years back.
Samsung's indifference/hostility to devs makes it unlikely to change. See the International Note 3 for example.
These are the kinds of things you can't easily research before purchasing a device. I lived under the delusion that Android = infinitely hackable. Didn't know it varied per device to such an extent.
I did try CM11 and it was fairly stable (until I tried to put the governor in performance mode, lol). Sadly, the more I learn about this tablet, the less appealing it is And most of that seems to stem from Exynos. Something to watch out for henceforth, I suppose.
I think I might chill on the whole tablet front until the next Nexus tablet.

After seeing this post I tried the performance governed and don't see any issues. Not that I'm asking for bug reports but still sorry you had issues.
as far as all the hating on the exynos soc, its really not any different then the other soc's out there as far as porting goes. There is a ton of source out there for the 5420 and its even been updated a couple times.
Sure hate on Companies and all that deserve it, but in this case Samsung has given plenty of support, more then even I expected and they deserve the proper credit for that.
Edit, don't mean to single out this single post, it is geared more towards the thread in general.

We've already got a working CM11 for 8.4, looks like there could be 10.5 CM11 just round the corner. A number of rooted and debloated stock roms. There are devs working on AOSP and LINARO. We have a kernel for stock and CM11 and the device is only a few months old, what more do you guys expect in such a short time? The Exynos development will come, be patient. ?

Why development is going slow for m9?

It's been months since m9 was launched but still we find very less development here compared to other recently launched phones .. There isn't any official cyanogenmod projects for the device yet,nor there are many custom kernel options. There aren't much activity in general except on sense rom.. Is it because less and less people have bought m9?
I am sure we would love to see more ROM and kernel options.

I noticed this however going from S4 to M9 is a huge difference. 2 years there abouts and samsung and a few other brands have a larger fan base who will ALWAYS buy those phones and so development is much more frequent.
Give it time and im sure things will pick up, especially once the CM team crack it and deliver what will undoubtedly be an awesome rom. That will pave the way for more AOSP / CM style roms which im very much looking forward to
have faith mate.
You mean compared to the S6? If you think this place is slow, go check those forums out. Considering how many more of those have sold, compared to the M9, S6 development is dead as a doornail.
From what I've seen, development for anything not Nexus has slowed quite a bit. Not as many people are modding their phones, I think because Android and the manufacturer skins have picked up a lot of the mods people used to want to root for.
That being said, things should pick up once CM is official.

Most mods have become baked into roms. Hell we can theme easily now. What's the real point of having 70 copies of the same thing.

what are you talking about there is atleast 10 different ROMs and CM12.1 almost fully working

New to Honor/Huawei - what's the Dev scene like? Do Huawei bother?

So I was all up and ready to buy a Moto G5 plus and then saw the Honor 8 Pro will be out soon. Everything about it looks great - The display (isn't amoled - thankfully!) and the size, the Kirin 960 looks like it competes with the Snapdragon 835 in many ways. And the price of course is very reasonable.
I'll be coming from the Nexus 5 so I've been in and around XDA a long time, flashing ROMs etc. I don't expect the Honor 8 Pro to be anywhere near as Dev friendly as the Nexus 5. But I was wondering if anyone can tell me what it's actually like for Devs with Huawei phones and getting hold of the sources needed to make custom ROMs or even get LineageOS and all the hardware working? I get the sense (but I'm not sure) that at the moment it's a *real* challenge because Huawei, like most manufacturers don't really believe that engaging with the Dev community can provide a great boost to brand visibility and "geek cred" which will then filter out into recommendations to friends and family etc: It can be a very strong marketing tool essentially. But companies rarely understand that it would actually benefit them in a business sense. So...
Do Huawei provide all the "sources" and resources needed for developing custom ROMs *eventually* or do they just not bother at all in some cases or make it very hard in others? I saw on a Honor 8 (not pro) thread that there are "ambassadors" around. Can these guys interact with Huawei/Honor to encourage them to help out with the necessary technical stuff to make building ROMs a viable possibility, and is that likely to get a good response or is it already in process?
I mean if I get the Honor 8 Pro, I'll use it "as is". EMUI is not bad but still quite amateurish/90s in many ways and I'm thinking I can go along way to fixing it by using a custom launcher. But if there's a good chance Honor/Huawei will suddenly become much more helpful with Dev stuff it would make it a dream phone for sure. Any info?
I've been looking in to this too. It seems you can unlock the bootloader on EMUI devices in an official way so that's a good start.
Have you had a look around the other Huawei and Honor forums? There do seem to be ROMs and unofficial Lineage OS builds, but I haven't found much info on sources, etc.
I have actually pre-ordered an Honor 8 Pro, it looks awesome and at £474 I couldn't resist. I think the major manufacturers have lost the plot in terms of flagship pricing.

Any info?

I'm in the same boat. I love the H8Pro but all I see outside of stock based roms, is one unofficial Lineage build for the Honor 8. The camera is currently listed as not working still. It's like that on a lot of phones that aren't too well known. My Le Pro 3 for example didn't have working camera on the marshmallow roms for a while and then when they got it working the 7 roms didn't have it until very recently. So it's a maybe it will at all. The problem is that while a lot of these companies allow bootloader unlocking, no they don't release sources. That's a big problem. That means devs have to build things like camera drivers from scratch, and without them being that popular devs working on it aren't usually too plentiful. Also not too much kernel support for that Kirin chipset either.
Well let me ask you guys. How much custom ROMs do you use these days ? I myself found that after changing to custom ROM I found back to stock ROM. These days stock roms has become so good that they actually brings the true character of a phone
Apparently I'm not the only one facing this decision. I've owned the Moto 2nd gen, G3, and G4 and frankly every time I've moved up a model, I like them a little less. For that reason alone, I'm trying to look past the Moto G5. Now that the Honor 9 is coming out, I'm taking a look at the Honor 8, hoping the cost will come down. I've always carried my phone in my front pocket so the size difference over the G4 I have now has me a little worried, but the weight really doesn't matter. I'm really looking very hard at the Honor 8 Pro though since price wise, it looks pretty close to the best bang for the buck.
ehh ..

And the price of course is very reasonable.

personally, i am a fan of their emui5, amazing ui tho,
and their harware is solid,
camera is good too,
battery lives are excellent (thanks to emui optimisations)
but my only regret is that i dont have much of a custom roms to play with, given that their kirin chip is not open sourced
offcourse, their is open kirin team unofficially, but they are not working on every device, so only complaint will be kernel sources,
many honor devices has no development at all,

Source code is just released! Check HERE. Since the phone is new, source is released early. OpenKirin Team can now develop for this device.

i love one plus 7T

who else love it
I thought there was gonna be a "but" on the text lol. I do love it too, I came to this phone from a Pocophone and the only thing i miss is the custom ROMs development on the Oneplus 7T.

I came from pocophone too. Lack of development is kinda disappointing, and i recently saw that delevopers said "TWRP may never come because of the new partition layout on android 10".

Don't know if it's never gonna come or devs just haven't had the time to work on it. I read on their blog that the primary dev was having his child born and coudn't work on it. Also if I'm not mistaken the only phones with Android 10 out of the box as of right now are the Pixel 4 series and the Oneplus 7T series so not a lot to work on. Wait until Xiaomi, Samsung and more brands release Android 10 by default and I think development of TWRP on this new kind of partition system is gonna get more attention. That is why I'm hopeful that development for this phone can get more attention "soon-ish".
I like it alot wish there was more development tho
If google would just make something this quality i would buy one of their phones already. I was dissapointed in the looks of the pixel 4. They cheaped out on their components to maximize profits and its obvious. I have been mostly happy with the oneplus 7t but it has had some serious quirks too. I have had to reset mine several times and I am dealing with gps issues constantly.
I mostly love my OnePlus 7t. Though it has some issues. That need addressed. Also the lack of customization options is irritating coming from a custom ROM standpoint.
Love my 7T
Can't wait for TWRP to de-google this phone, but outside of that I totally love it. Although, to be fair this is my very first 'smart' phone so I really have nothing to compare it to. I think it's pretty damn great, actually.
Love the phone? hate the lack of development for it ?
I like it but will definitely hold off on next purchase to make sure development is more active. Luckily oxygen os is pretty decent, but still leaves a lot to be desired.
Can you guys tell me, what exactly you lack of for customization features? No offense, just out of curiosity.
I am flashing all of the devices in my household since the HTC desire days, like for the past 5..6..7 years or so... Constantly looking for the optimal ROM for me or my fiance's use case, tinkering with custom kernels, governer settings, blocking wakelocks... Whatsoever.
This is the first device I am happy with while it is just unlocked and rooted witch only a 1 magisk module active. For me android and OSS has come such a long way that all I build in aftermarket is now integrated in stock. Now it is just rooted, debloated and adfree. That's it for me. Although I somehow miss the long nights of flashing and trying out multiple stuff one after another, but also life gets more serious and time consumable so it's ok for me. I guess same for most of the gurus from the old days.. lol
I now can do my hobby more or less for a living, so no need to do it in my free time anymore...
What do you guys think? Is it just my feeling that the development branch somehow radically changed?

I love this phone I installed Omni via adb and never looked back. I really want to get a lineage build on it but the builds I tried to make are very broken.

I agree. Since I left HTC (the M9 being he last one) I have not had the need to flash a custom ROM. Was on a Nokia 8 previously and the vanilla-ish android was good. I only missed the weather clock and mail app from HTC - but they are going down sadly so had to jump ship. Left Nokia as they launched too many phones and were not fixing bugs on their ex-flagships - promised to fixed their camera app but never came for example.
With the 7T I have to say I hardly have any complaint. Customisations are great and the phone is amazing. Adjusting the bokeh blur (live bokeh) would have been great even if it was after taking the photo but nothing else to complain about to be fair.
I do miss the old late nights flashing ROMS though - but like you say, life is different now. I haven't even rooted the Nokia and 7T! haha

Hi, I also came from Poco F1. Amazing phone. Took me a while to get use to OP7T even thought it is better in many ways. I bought it new for 300 pounds and then after a year on October 2019 I found a deal like hell and bought a new OP7T for 360 pounds. Amoled display was the biggest advantage I noticed for the first time. Later I could not even look on the Poco F1 display and before I was astonished by the quality of the LCD panel. I got so much used to the face unlock on F1 cause it was so freaking fast and precise even at complete dark. That and the fast fingerprint scanner is another think I missed for a while. But eventually I get used to the in-display one (but they still could add one more on the back cause it is the perfect place for it). Also that I was so used to the MIUI, the environment was kind of weird for me. But with little bit of tweaking and setting up Nova launcher, which I have been using already for like 8 years anyway, helped a lot. And I even found some tweaks I could not do in MIUI. But like you mentioned, there were so much variety of ROMs and hell I like rooting, flashing and stuff like this. There is also one function I found only in MIUI and which helped me a lot when I came lazy like hell from night shift home and that is that you could mirror your screen to smart TV, lets say play a sitcom or whatever, and minimize it on the device itself so I could be on FB, YT, even play a games and not disturb media streaming to my TV. I wish Oneplus add this feature in future.
