To easily find out if the Bluetooth aptX CODEC is supported, go into the folder:
/system/lib/
and check, if there is file named like (where x is placeholder for for numbers):
libbt-aptX-ARM-x.x.x.so
If it exists, aptX should work.

Great, thanks.
And Sammy stays silent about this feature.
Now it is interesting to know if the A3 is blessed, too.

Hi. how to check it without Root? I have a A3 2017 not rooted.
I used ES file explorer. You can still browse the system folder, you just can't edit it

I have an A3, has this file, pretty sure aptx does not work, sound quality is highly problematic. I think even my Tab S2 which just has bluetooth 3.0 sounds better.

I know this is a fairly old post, but I just want to confirm that apt-x works at least on the Galaxy A5 2017. I'm sure about this because I checked the bt_snoop log and the codec used with an apt-x capable headset is apt-x indeed.

but why is the sound quality that bad on my a5 2017? compared to tab s2 its awful.
For what it's worth, the Sony Headphones Connect app claims the connection between my A5 2017 and WH-1000XM2 is aptX, though I don't notice I huge difference in sound quality between that and the "SBC DSEE HX" mode that can be switched to via the app.
Couple of comments above mention poorer sound quality with the A5 vs the Tab S2. I happen to have the latter as well, and just tried it with the same headphones to see if I could discern any difference playing the same song, but it sounded much the same. Sorry to be the annoying 'works for me' guy.
More generally, the A5 2017's Bluetooth audio connection with various headphones isn't quite as resilient as my old A3 (original) - it's more prone to the occasional skip.
Hi All, is this method supposed to also work on LineageOS 15.1? A few days ago I flashed the latter (+ Gapps) into an SM-A320FL that came with stock EE UK ROM and can't see any files with libbt-aptX at all under /system/lib now despite it seems to have already been proven by others by now that A3 2017 does support aptX.
And one more question if I may: will this method enable aptX HD in my A3 2017 even though that libbt-aptX-ARM-x.x.x.so file isn't there?
Many thanks in advance!
Just wondering.... on my Galaxy A3 2017 with Adroid 8.0.0 the folder /system/lib/ is empty, just another folder which is also empty is shown. I used an app to test aptx, it says no aptx available. So why are others have aptx on the same phone and how can I install it?

AptX support as such is definitely there in A3 2017 as per user report earlier in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70935219&postcount=6
AptX support is actually there even in A3 2016: besides a 2017 I have a 2016 with stock VF UK ROM and there's file libbt-aptX-ARM-4.2.2.so (20,148 bytes) under /system/lib. Perhaps custom ROMs have those files elsewhere? Hence my question above. Meanwhile with LineageOS 15.1 ROM running on my A3 2017 I can see AptX, AptX HD, and LDAC showing up in Developer Options among other codecs.
P.S. You may find this thread interesting - it's about enabling "SBC HD" by means of using SBC Dual Channel and increasing max bitrate:

Thanks for this great link!
Within developer settings it on SBC. I can switch to aptx or any other setting... but it always goes back to SBC. Think this is because files are missing in the phone (don't know why). So I need to uploade aptx all codecs (AAC, aptX, LDAC, Samsung HD).
If I got it right I need to find a dump, right? How do I install the dump?

It's hard to believe LineageOS 15.1 comes w/o them bearing in mind that Oreo brings about so many Bluetooth audio improvements (besides LDAC support). I'll test AptX on my A3 2017 tonight and report.
> If I got it right I need to find a dump, right? How do I install the dump?
Assuming you imply Bluetooth log (aka trace, as logs generally imply something different in the industry), you'd need to enable it in Development options for the duration of your Bluetooth session (to prevent growing the trace/log file indefinitely) and then find its location and pull it from there. This tool will then tell what codecs were offered by the party that initiated Bluetooth connection first and which one of them was selected.
The fact is that the bluetooth files (/system/lib/libbt-aptX-ARM-x.x.x.so) are missing, so every test / log says that aptx is not supported... but others with the same phone have it. This means for me I need to install it somehow.. My phone is rooted, so there should be a way

So we have the same problem then )
Also once we fix it (or perhaps find those files elsewhere) I'm hoping to add AptX HD support as detailed here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...-bluetooth-hi-res-audio-t3501991/post79519578
I already tried applying it to my A3 2016 running stock VF UK ROM (Android 7) but have no equipment to test AptX HD with and cannot even see it advertised among those supported, hence my question at the end of that thread if this method applies to A3 at all.
Update: looks like aptX isn't there on my A3 2017 with LineageOS 15.1 too, so SBC gets selected:
Connection:
48:27:ea:d2:cc:7d (Samsung Galaxy A3 2017) → 00:1d:df:a6:8a:23 (PhilipsBT)
Supported codecs:
Audio non-A2DP (aptX - 16000 32000 44100 48000, Stereo) << Supported by the sink not by A3 2017
Audio SBC (16000 32000 44100 48000 | Mono DualChannel Stereo JointStereo | block: 4 8 12 16 | subbands: 4 8 | allocation: SNR Loudness | bitpool: 2..53)
Used for audio:
Audio SBC (44100 | JointStereo | block: 16 | subbands: 8 | allocation: Loudness | bitpool: 2..53)
Latest SBC Bitpool value: 53
Let's ask in the LineageOS 15.1 thread why aptX isn't there. Now asked.
P.S. Looks like it's all detailed here.
P.P.S. Actually this lack of aptX/LDAC enables easy SBC-HD Dual Channel + higher bitrate testing after adding it as AptX/LDAC would take precedence if they were there, so I won't rush flashing that aptX/aptX-HD update until after it.
As mentioned in the post the following file needs to be there for aptx:
/system/lib/libbt-aptX-ARM-x.x.x.so
The "APTX-enabler" doesn't install this file, it installs:
/system/lib/libaptX_encoder.so
/system/lib64/libaptX_encoder.so
/system/lib/libaptXHD_encoder.so
/system/lib64/libaptXHD_encoder.so
/system/vendor/lib64/libaptX_encoder.so
/system/vendor/lib64/libaptXHD_encoder.so
I checked aptx functionallity with different apps and all say "not awailable"
..by the way I tried different German ROMs, and all don't have aptx

Hello Everyone, today i will share my last mod to enable 192kHz on audio outputs of lenovo vibe k5 plus (Tested on A6020l36 and RR 5.8.0 + ExtremeKernel), this mod will change some values of mixer_paths_qrd_skuh file to make sound more clear and dont be loude than the lenovo's specifications for stock rom. Sample rate is the number of times of a digital signal read some point of audio wave, for example if we have a sample rate of 48kHz we can reproduce signals of 20 to 24kHz without looses, but this limits too much who wanna listen .flac files with better samplerate, the phone will reproduce without problems the sound, but we will loose some things of audio. This mod will enable 192kHz for default, removing old 48kHz samplerate.
Example of sinusoidal wave modulation:

with more samples we can have more fidelity on audio reproduction because the processor will take more "dots" of the ported wave.
OFF: Vibe k5 l36 variant have an problem with audio (white noise) when boot device, this is a known problem, but this mod don't solve this problem, if someone have idea of what can be this problem, please say if possible, when boot white noise starts, when play any song, the white noise stops forever, return on next reboot. I already try to remove low_latency audio but stay the same.

192kHz for all codecs, starting from 96kHz High Frequency samples
Not really. Most audio files, even the CD flac ones are mostly encoded at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. By setting the sound output to 192 kHz, it will upscale all music to 192 kHz, resulting in something like a pixelated zoomed image, but for audio. Best playback is obtained when the audio output sample rate matches the file sample rate.
Some files are encoded at 192 kHz, but the audiophiles who'd bother to download such files wouldn't buy this device in the first place.
On an unrelated note, the kernel you posted in another thread works with RR 5.8.0(Android 7.1) ??

I have a lot of flac files encoded with 192khz, output with 44,1khz, 48khz, 96khz and 192khz makes a lot of difference in this case, also, i can listen the difference too in mp3 sounds at 320kbps, some is encoded at 96khz
And the kernel, for now, don't work in rr 5.8.0

mp3 files don't go above 48 kHz. The 96k mp3 you have is probably a regular 48k mp3 created from a 24 bit/96k audio master

Maybe playing a song just calibrate the sound drivers hardware. And I guess this problem was made by GPU or CPU electrical noise being interpreted by the sound hardware until the calibration was taken. To me looks like pretty the same with some noises produced in desktops connected to very sensible sound hardwares.

The change in quality is very perceptive. Using with Neutron MP and adjusted settings, the sound is superb!

Hi man!
trying to figure out this situation, thinked a lot about what cause this behaviour, but with the limited power of my mind I come with just this and no more! Probably this is being caused by more than one frequency running through the coil of hardware sound, these frequencies produced by other hardware components makes the coil to vibrates non harmonically, and this produces that noises! hope that you understand what I am trying to say at this point! So, thinked as a possible solution put the kernel to bootup the system with a fixed combination of frequencies that non produces these non harmornic waves in the coil of the hardware sound!
sorry for my crappy english!
Edit: after boot, without playing any sound, setting max gpu clock at 100mhz reduces a lot the loudness of that noises

Hi, most interesting mod.
I am after setting a variable sample rate mode, this is, no resampling, like PulseAudio in Linux or Windows. I have added 44100 and 48000 to all devices in audio profiles configuration, but the internal sample rate value is still 48000Khz.
I have a Xiaomi Mi 8, with dual oscillator audio chipset. When not mixing audio sources, I'd like the sample rate be adaptive. Is this possible?
OMG, this make my cheap earbuds sounds like original, i m using it with dolby atmos surrounded it's magnificent, the quality and the bass re v clear and better than ever
many thanks for making this mod!!
hey, i installed the mod on oreo aex v5.7, and every time i open any game a v loud beebing noise happens it stops when i close the game, i've reinstalled all the games, same thing , i ve tried to play games with headphone connected, the beebing sound jumped from the speakers to the headphone

This post will help you add aptX Bluetooth capability to your Pixel XL.
NOTE: This mod is only for ROM's using the Qualcomm Bluetooth stack, such as 14.1+ Cyanogen/Lineage OS.
Does not work in ROM's using the AOSP Bluetooth stack, such as Stock Pixel, Dirty Unicorns/Pure Nexus.
Apt-X and Apt-X HD are officially supported in Lineage OS based ROM's

For the moment, this thread only deals with non-HD aptX.
aptX HD is still rarely supported by headphones & other devices.
I'll research and add appropriate files for HD soon.

Have you heard of aptX Bluetooth?
It lets your Bluetooth connection deliver cleaner, fuller sounding audio to aptX supported devices (headphones, car stereo, etc).
Your Pandora may not sound any better, but your FLAC and other high end MP3 type files should sound cleaner, slightly more sparkly highs and better defined lows.
Think of it as the difference between listening to FM radio vs. a CD.
While it's not that drastic a difference, a capable ear should be able to enjoy what aptX delivers.
Same goes for HD voice calls if you have access to that. There may be more clarity noticed on these types of calls when using an aptX supported audio chain.
The aptX mod should not interfere with Viper or any other Android audio mod.
It's simply a codec, such as A2DP using SBC. But instead of SBC, you'll be using aptX.
Please give a big thanks to @dh.harald for coming up with this particular solution.

Unlikely. I think they use AOSP Bluetooth stack.
You can try though, it won't break anything to put the files in the same location.
But I'm fairly sure it'll be a waste of time.

I have it in my stock ROM, rooted with a custom kernel. I haven't tested it out yet. But I feel like these files do what I usually do manually in system/etc/a2dp_audio_policy_configuration.xml set the values to "96000,192000" and Bluetooth dramatically increases in depth and clarity almost the same as setting your computer audio to 24bit 192000 it's just a driver. I don't know why Google doesn't make this code part of Android it really makes a difference!
It should look like this:

My mod will work with stock rooted, and a custom kernel. Use ES file explorer and a text editor to modify th .XML file and restart. You will notice the difference with good audio. Also WETA audio adds a significant audio gain with the addition of Sony and HTC audio libraries. You don't have to use Dolby Atmos or viper4android that ar included to get these gains. I'm one for not to processed audio viper tends to make the sound signature sound to digital but some of its settings are good for certain situations. That's the link for the WETA mod.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120694195
I'm pretty sure I tried aptX mod on stock and it didn't work. You're welcome to try though, it won't break anything.
Sachi, you might want to make a separate thread for your mod and leave it out of this thread.
aptX will increase bandwidth but I'm sure your mod has its merits too.
I did this mod on my Pixel xl rooted with elementalx kernel 1.03 and stock ROM. Worked fine but for some reason when ever the phone went to sleep it would not wake back up.

I cannot think of a single reason why that would happen.
I'll try to duplicate this afternoon.
Thanks bro I really loved this mod! Makes my BT headphones Sound so crispy. I know it's the mod causing it because after reverting back it stopped dong it, but will keep testing. Oh I forgot to mention I do have viper audio mod and the dolby Atmos on my Pixel XL. Could that be that issue?

I flashed back to stock "V" 7.1.1 image which is the latest.
Then rooted with SuperSU 2.79 SR2.
Then installed ElementalX 1.03.
Then installed the .so aptX files and connected to my aptX headphones.
I am only connecting via A2DP, as expected. aptX does not engage/work at all.
I did verify this via my headphones blue LED which flashes a certain times to indicate A2DP vs. aptX as well as reviewed my catlog which did not indicate aptX was in use.
I also verified no issues with phone going into or waking up from deep sleep.

This mod is for Roms that use the Qualcomm BT stack which stock uses AOSP stack. So no this will not work on stock ROM

It doesn't work on stock or other ROM's with AOSP bluetooth stack.
It DOES work on ROM's with Qualcomm Bluetooth stack, though so far there is only one to test & verify this with.
Here is Lineage OS ROM and it works on this ROM:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/help/try-lineage-xl-t3537898
Wouldn't it be possible to simply "copy"/port the Qualcomm BT Stack onto regular AOSP roms? I'm talking replace the libs and confs type of deal...

That would be nice.
Click the link in my signature to monitor the [mostly non-existent] development towards this goal.
Btw, there is a new LineageOS based ROM in the dev forum.
This aptX mod should work on it too.
The ROM is still in Alpha testing though.

Hey,
I'm currently looking for a smartphone with long battery life and support of HQ sound (LDAC preferred).
I found some ROMs with Android 8.0 and I heard that this version of OS supports LDAC. Does it mean that when I install one of these ROMs, I will be able to use LDAC?

LDAC is included in AOSP since Oreo so you should be able to use it on every 8+ ROM until someone will remove it from his ROM. It is visible in my codec selection menu on LOS15.1 but I can't test it for you since I'm not in possession of any wireless headphones. I believe that you should look for information and how it works on other phones threads too, not only here. There is possibility that Lineage doesn't support this codec itself since stock haven't supported it but I'm not sure about that since LDAC is part of AOSP unlike AptX for example where your phone needs to be certified to allow developers to include this codec in official builds.
Basically you can add any existing bluetooth audio codec to your phone's ROM. There's not any hardware requirements besides bluetooth so I believe that you should be able to use it.
Could any user of this phone tell me if it supports the Aptx codec, and if yes, which versions? Standard, HD, adaptive, LL? I know that Note 7 Pro did because of its Snapdragon processor, but I have no idea if Helio supports it, and various sites list it as supported or not.

It seems that currently RN8Pro doesn't support AptX codec.
When I pair AptX bluetooth headphones with logcat I see the following lines:

I think it's possible to add AptX support applying special patch by TWRP or rooting and copying missing libraries to system/vendor/lib
I hope we will get AptX support in future MIUI releases...

I am really annoyed right now because I have 2 pairs of headphones and the bluetooth speakers with aptX and they are connecting to the phone by SBC. The quality of audio is terrible. I was sure that it has the aptx. Can someone confirm it too?
edit:
aptX is the qualcomm technology, mediatek doesn't support it.
There's a Magisk module for enabling aptx, probably should work
Is there any way to activate aptX? I used a magisk module a while ago with my Note 5, but this had a Snapdragon SOC, not a Mediatek. This is really anoying, nearly all reviews show aptx as supported, but there is nothing in the specs on the Xiaomi web page.
Edit: at least LDAC is working
In fact, on my RN8T, when I go to bluetooth codecs on developer options, it shows there "Qualcomm Aptx", "Qualcomm Aptx HD", etc... But when I try to select, it always sticks on "Use the system selection (pre-defined)", and I can't change. So I think the phone as Aptx Codec, I don't know is how to able it.

Yes, I'm replying my post.
I tested, and when I connected a bluetooth headphones with Aptx Audio, for the case Sennheiser 4.50BT NC, the connection made was an Aptx connection. When the connection is made, appears on the bluetooth settings the sign "Aptx".
So, there is no need of a library. You only need a Bluetooth Headphone that actually has Aptx Audio, or Aptx HD.
Also beware, that, for low latency, it's a specific Aptx, Aptx Low Latency. Aptx Audio, only affects the quality of the audio.
Hope I could help.

I've tried on a Senneheiser 4.50BT NC, and I can confirm that it connected with aptx audio. So, what I suggest is to go to a store and try it, with one that you really have sure that has aptx audio, because I've heard that a lot of headphones sold on some online shops on the spects have "aptx", but that is not true. So go to a store and try it. Another thing, my phone is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T, with MIUI 10.

I'm aware that this is a RN8 Pro topic, and the processor is a mediatek. From what I read, the RN8 Pro includes Aptx.
I answered this topic, first of all, because I was having the same problem on a RN8T, which could be an important input for solving this problem, and then when I realized that there wasn't any problem, I think I should share it, because maybe if on developer - Bluetooth codec options appears the aptxs options then it must have the codec available when connecting to a Bluetooth headphones that has supports Aptx.

I'm curious did you make an xda account just to start a thread to ask a question? I've noticed everyday now that about 20 people a day start new threads and I wondered why. Xda was developed for people who are into development and want to flash Roms and root their phones.
To answer your question it should you need to turn on developer options and search for Bluetooth codecs. I don't have my Poco f3 yet I just ordered it today otherwise I would tell you how to turn on developer options but it's usually go into settings find your build number and tap on it 7 times and it'll say turned on developer options. I believe the poco f3 is in settings find your MIUI version number and tap it 7 times and then find additional settings and you'll see developer options now. Look for the Bluetooth codecs but here's the bad news. You can only use them on headphones that support the ldac codec the system will over ride your settings and use the headphones settings. Good luck
@Techguy777, you are right! I was so frustrated not finding solutions that I had to be one more these irritanting guys that make a XDA account just to place a thread. I understand you and I'am honestly sorry! Please, accept my apologies
I'am in developer mode since the first day I have this monster phone. Yeah, it's a beast!
In developer mode, the LDAC codec among others is there but It doesn't mean that poco f3 can use it. Sometimes we found in developer mode options or settings that are not usable because they are not still finished and need a final touch in a future firmware upgrade. The POCO F3 has support for AptX HD codec (see specs) but it isn't avaible today. We will have it in a future flash.
My earphones are the Anker Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro, and they have LDAC Hi-Res codec. All I need now, is a music provider (like Tidal) with hi-res audio streaming service and if the POCO F3 has really the LDAC codec support..... BOOOOOM!!!
Finally, I found elsewhere, LDAC codec is present in any phone that support Android 8 or later. Don't now if is true but I place my bet
Thank you for your king size support
Hi, according to my experience of using Sony WH-1000XM3, Redmi K40 supports LDAC, which should be the same model as POCO F3, but I didn't have a chance to try if it support Hi-Re audio. Hope my experience will be helpful to you.

Sorry to butt in so late but, the Poco F3 does not officially support LDAC. If you force it on via developer options or, in the Android Bluetooth settings, it will only use "Best Effect" LDAC at 360 kbps, which apparently has less clarity than SBC. If you try to set it to "Optimised for Audio Quality" in Developer Options, it just reverts straight back. I ran Bluetooth diagnostic software on my phone and, LDAC was not listed as a selectable codec.

I think I found a way for Android with the Sony XM4, I am not completely sure because I did not have an app to measure the bitrate but there is some clues that shows it works. I use the french app so the name of parameters could be bad translated.
1. You need to download the Sony Music Center App (it is an app different from Sony Headphones Connect).
2. Connect your headphones to your phone with bluetooth.
3. Go to the Sony Music Center App. You will see your heaphone in the list of connected device.
4. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and click on Parameters.
5. Click on bluetooth parameters and click playback quality
6. Choose priority to quality
You can check that the maximum bitrate is set by default by looking at the developper menu in android parameters. If you look at it the LDAC codec automaticaly toggle to 990kbps.
I advice you to restart your phone after that.
However, you need to reopen music center to reactivate 990kbps mode everytime you reconnect your headphone.
Hey folks, what do I need to do to enable ldac for my Poco F3 with Sony headphones?
Use Sony's app
How to activate LDAC on a POKO F3 phone, Sony WH-H900N on ear 2 headphones. Via Music Center error in the screenshot, Music Center also cannot activate, if you select LDAC, then the settings are reset.
