So I know there are a couple of posts on here but I have found them a little hard to follow. I just got my captivate last sunday and on the stock 2.1 rogers rom I noticed that the battery life was very poor. Since then I am now running cog 3.01 i think and my battery life is now alot longer than before.
For the way I would like to use my phone It is still not enough for what would make me happy. my phone is unplugged at 6:00 am and when i get home by 5 it used to be dead but after "breaking in the battery" and the new rom i get home with about %15 percent battery.
I just bought a triple battery pack off of ebay for $10. these batteries are rated at 1500 mAh, the same as the battery that came with my phone. I am just wondering what I can expect from these batteries.
My plan is to drain two of them completely then leave them in my desk drawer(from what I have read if you plan on storing batteries they should be completely drained first) and use one of them plus my oem battery daily(until they start to lose performance). Again does anyone have any experience with a battery of the sort or any similar third party battery?
they are no where as good as samsung oem battery. even though it says 1500mah it is not or will drop drastically after a month or so of use...i've bought a lot of those batteries from ebay and they always like that even some other well known companies like Seidio do not compare with manufacture's batteries. the difference is usable capacity, oem batteries are around 95% compared to cheap chinese ones that are anywhere from 60-80%.

I have those ebay batteries. I bought the kit that comes with two batteries and an external charger for about $10.
The ebay battery is has about 60-70% of the power of the OEM battery. I have no real hard evidence just from using it for the past 2 months or so.
I am ok that it is does not last as long as OEM because it was only $10 and it came with the external charger. I love the external charger because it allows me to charge a spare battery while I keep one in my phone.

I bought the same ensemble, with essentially the same results excepting perhaps that one of my replacement batteries seems to underperform with about 40% of OEM battery life.
That said, for $10... they're very handy as backups. They'll easily give you a few more hours in a pinch, which is essentially just what I was looking for. I really have no complaints in that respect.
The best strategy for battery life I've found is to buy a handful of wall adapters and position them in places you spend a lot of time at, and to develop a habit of plugging in when you're not moving around.
Sad but true, but mediocre battery life is just kind of a way of life for these (and really all) high-performance Android devices. Excepting getting an outsized and expensive battery replacement like the Seidio 3500 mAh that all but prevents use with many accessories and cases, a couple wall chargers and a car charger are effective if mildly annoying means of managing it.
These generic Hong Kong replacements are entirely effective as emergency supplements, but you'll find yourself preferring the OEM cell still.
Yep I mean for $20 I have two charges and 4 batteries so if I need to go without power , even if not a 100% match for the oem power, it is still damn cheap.

I got the 2x 1500mah batteries + Battery Charger combo.
I must say I am impressed. They are the same quality as my OEM battery. Its so convenient. I never have to run to a charger anymore. Just keep the spare battery in my car or wherever and just pop it in and carry on with my daily business.
When I get home, I just re-charge all the batteries. The Battery Charger even has an LED Light that tells you when its finished. "RED: while charging" and "BLUE: when finished". Charging takes about roughly 3 hours, (just like OEM).
Edit: Been using this for about a month so far. With no problems.. Its the best feeling. My phone is never plugged in anymore. And, I don't have to "pinch the settings" to make my phone last.
IE. lowering brightness to 10%, turning sync off, turning wireless networks off, etc.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
only crappy thing is??? I plan to sell this phone soon, when the Galaxy S 2 comes out, if the specs are good enough.

Would you mind posting the link or giving us the name of the exact vendor you ordered from?... I'm about to order the 2xbatteries and charger combo, but just want to make sure I get batteries that are half way decent. When I search on eBay I get about 20 vendors selling similar combos and given that in HK they're celebrating Chinese New Year... most won't fulfill orders until next week.

I, like many of you, have been looking for ways to extend the battery life on the galaxy nexus. The particular route I have taken was to purchase some after market batteries off eBay. The intention was to purchase extra batteries and always have 1-2 fully charged ready to use when I'm out or when I'm planning to use the hotspot function extensively.
I hope by sharing my experience it helps at least some of you in choosing the right option. I will be updating this thread over the next week or so.
So here we go.
Capacity: 1900mAh
Brand: Unbranded
eBay item title: 2X 1900mAh Battery + Home Charger for Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus Prime I9250
Cost: $10 for 2 batteries and 1 charger
I have no relation to the seller, and to avoid any reasonable doubt, I'm not including any links to the item. You are free to buy or not from any sellers online.
The batteries came nicely packaged. The batteries fit perfectly into my i9250, standard cover, no modifications needed.
The charger is the slow type (i.e. overnight charger), and I had to leave the batteries in it for 5+ hours to reach full charge. This is a plus (to me) since slow charging is more gentle on batteries, but it does mean that you will probably want two chargers so the batteries can be charged in parallel if you are a heavy user.
Batteries didn't heat up noticeably during the charge.
After charging completed, I placed it in the phone and it showed 100% charge for 30+ minutes.
I have had it in the phone for four hours and with fairly heavy usage it's now down to 86%. For some reason my stock battery never seem to do this well, I would have been down to ~70% by now normally.
Update 1: I have used the batteries in a normal work day and here are the findings.
Aftermarket Battery 1: uptime 14 hours from 100% to 14%
Aftermarket Battery 2: uptime 10.5 hours from 100% to 16%
All in all I'm pretty happy with the results given the price and the fact that screen time was >5 hours in both cases, and that the OEM batteries performed similarly.
Update 2:
OEM battery: uptime 13.9 hours from 100% to 13%
So I guess that's it for now. These aftermarket batteries do seem to perform similarity to the OEM stock battery (sans NFC). I'd definitely recommend them, as personally I prefer carrying an extra battery over purchasing an extended one since it does add bulk and heft, and doesn't really double the run time unless you go for the 3500mAh category which is even bigger.

This review was the decider for me whether or not I wait for the 2012 phones to come out, or get the galaxy nexus early - GN won hands down. I am about to order the same batteries from China; they're a lot cheaper than what my service provider has to offer!
They are indeed a good deal. Just one thing that I want to re-emphasize - NFC is not supported with these batteries.
I'm fine with this as Google Wallet is not available in Canada, but it is something you may want to consider.
I just got this charger and battery kit. USB charging on the charger is a nice addition. I'm testing these batteries now, but plan on only using them in an emergency, so it's a great deal.

To the op: how many times did you cycle the batteries to get those numbers? I've cycled each of the two twice and I'm getting terrible life... 2h screen time and 5h total use. My oem battery gets at least double that

After I received the batteries I just charged it using the supplied charger until the light turned blue. I didn't power cycle the battery or do anything special.
Let me re-run the tests again and see how they compare now.
5 hours total run time does seem very short.
I was running AOKP before and running LiquidSmooth + Franco kernel now, but I guess as long as we use the Samsung OEM battery as control it shouldn't matter.
Will report back in a few days.

I have purchased these same type of batteries for my vibrant and they were great. About same runtime as stock battery and I would carry 2 or 3 around with me at all times. They seemed to work a little better after a few full charge cycles. Only thing is they do not last as long as the OEM battery as far as the number of recharges. That being said I got around 9 months of daily charges out of them and by that time they start to get a little beat up and worn from hanging out in my pocket all that time any way. So I think its well worth it.... $10 every 6 months to a year I think is better than $80 for a 3500mAh battery to me. I never keep a phone more than 2 years so I might have $30 tied up in batteries over that time. And having 3 batteries to swap out I can easily make it over 24 hours away from an outlet.
I will be buying these soon for my GN. I just got it last friday so still breaking in the oem battery and will see how many "spares" I will need to buy for it in the next couple weeks.
So I cycled the batteries a few times and they are better, but still not close to three performance I get from the stock battery. I'm not to bothered by i though as these are really only for an emergency and would be rarely needed.

I bought the 3800mah battery from eBay for less than $12. Don't really notice any difference at the end of the day. Extended have 12% and stock Samsung had 13% at 9pm. Unplugg at 8am

I wanted to get QI charger w/ my Nexus and ended up getting one that included a 10,000 mAh powerbank for basically the same price.
I thought it was going to feel pretty cheap, but to my surprise it seems like its pretty good quality. For 40 bucks for both a QI and a power bank in one it's pretty kick arse! So be forewarned the "IN STOCK" status is BS it ships from China so don't expect within a week; I think I got mine in 3 weeks.
Also the instructions are horrendous, not sure who translated it but its actually comedy. I think says something like... "Use it if it bulges, smells or smokes." (instead of dont) and has FAQ's that have no questions. Literally every line in the instructions does not make sense.
So you can use this as a normal QI charger. As a powerbank you can use QI or plug it in through the USB ports (2) which makes more sense so you dont have 30% power loss as with QI. Powerbank is same shape as phone just about twice as thick and slightly larger width and length. Finished material is smooth so if you have a hard plastic case it may easily slide off or not become centered well enough to charge. I have a case no issues charging through the case. It does also get a full charge and it does not get my phone more than warm (same as wall charger).

I'd be very interested in a test to see what the actual capacity of this is. Im always wary with a no name brand battery from China because they tend to always overstate their battery capacities. Wish there were some reviews, but I might give it a go anyway to test it out myself.

Its weird how almost all of the qi power banks on amazon have no reviews. Seems like something everyone should have. Ridiculously useful. I am wondering why the one posted above is a good 25% cheaper than all the others of the same 10,000 mah capacity though.
Would absolutely love for the OP to test how many full charges of the Nexus 5 he could get from the device using USB and then Wireless charging, but that would probably take a while. Also OP, when you say that the case is smooth, is it smooth like the soft touch plastic on the back of the Nexus 5 or smooth like the shiny plastic on galaxy phones?

no problem but may be a few days I'm getting over a day cycle on my nexus so far. I bought it mostly for the QI charger the bank was a bonus/ I will keep a log but try and get full cycles out of it to make it easier.
As far as the smoothness it is more like the shiny plastic on the galaxy phones. My phone has a plastic case it doesn't slide to much but I could see if it got bumped it would move. I had bought a screen protector someone posted that i don't like it's kind of rubbery or tacky feel i was thinking about taking it off and putting it on the charger so it was a little more "grippy".
Give me a few days I'll put up some stats for you

Oh I know, but the ones sold under the badge of Samsung or LG are usually dead on their mah capacity ratings. Not so much for random Chinese brands I havent heard of before.

Amazons having a 50% off deal on battery packs if you buy the RAVpower qi charger. I just picked up the charger and a RAV 8400mAh pack for just over 60 bucks. I've been wanting both for a while now and this deal was just to good to pass up. I do a lot of backpacking and have been debating between a battery pack vs. a solar charger for some time now as well. The pack is actually lighter than any of the solar charges I was looking at. And for 18 bucks was a no brainer.
so here are some stats on this as a power bank not sure how much power loss over a few days is normal but after a full charge of the bank using the cable here is what I came up with:
night one charger started at 51% .49 of the full 2300 mAh nexus 5 battery = 1127 mAh
night two started at 18% .82 = 1886
night three started at 22% .78 = 1794
night four started at 28% .72 = 1656
night five started at 9% died at 32% = 529

Interesting. And that is using the cable and not the Qi wireless charging? Its always said that Qi will have around a 30% loss in efficiency, which would make your numbers perfectly in line with what a 10,000 mah battery should do. Of course if you were using a cable it might just be that the low cost of the device translates to a less efficient transfer of energy. Still able to get roughly 3 full charges out of the power bank is pretty awesome.

Yea thats through the cable, I know even turned off there is power loss on rechargeable batteries but I don't know what is normal power degradation equates to in a percentage. I agree though roughly 3 full charges may not be a full 10,000 mAh bank, but at the price even if it equates to a 7000 bank its not bad. Throw in the QI (which is mainly what I bought this for anyway) and this is pretty sweet deal :laugh:

it does shut off once it gets a full charge, using the cable as a powerbank. Never tried QI as a bank doesn't make sense so don't know this way.
I read the biggest difference between the g2 and n5 are the battery life..
No biggy. I just bought one of these for £19.97 from eBay.
It's a "Power Bank" portable charger with a capacity of 15000mAh.
It has two ports, 1A and 2A. 2A is actually 2.1A, which is fairly fast. It's about 0.5 cm taller and wider than the n5, so you can just sit your phone comfortably on top of it while you eat lunch or whatever.
This charged my n5 from 14% to 100% in about 30 mins while playing a light game, and used roughly 1/5 of the total capacity.
I no longer charge my phones at night. I just charge this badboy. I've had it for a week and well, I haven't worried when my phone gets to 15% battery remaining by 12:00 due to heavy use and gaming. Neither has it ran out of charge before the end of the day, and it comes with 4 different adapters for varied devices.
It's perfect.
I found this new on eBay but you can find them anywhere, just make sure the get at least a 2.1A port for fast charging.

Hello everyone,
I hope to buy a power bank for my new Nexus 5.
I have made many search and I found that all power bank provide more that 1.2 A as output.
I noticed that the Nexus 5 official charger provide 1.2 A as output. So if I will buy a power bank that provides 2A or 3A, this will make problems for the phone battery ??
It is real that the important amperage charge the phone very fast, but this will not make problems for the battery ??
Ive got problems with the nexus 5's battery life aswell.
Now I'm using franco kernel and greenify and some other simple battery saving methods (no vibrate on key press, ...)
Feels like my battery life tripled it's juice!

Power supply life is an issue for everyone modern touch screen phones, besides the Nexus 5. Handsets increasingly becoming thinner, displays pack in additional pixels than ever, mobile systems are getting more source intensive, and battery power technology basically can’t sustain. The issue is additional evident using some smartphones than it's in some others, however, and the actual Nexus 5 confirms itself on the list of worst performers we've got tested lately with regards to battery lifetime.
The best feature I have ever had on a smartphone was a power saving feature from the HTC one.
So simple but amazing at saving battery life.
It turned off the data connection when you were not using it.
So simple.

Proper testing conditions disagrees with you. You'd be hard pressed to find a more efficient quad core 2300 mAh phone ever made. The G2's 3000 mAh it can not match though.

Many people recommend Anker but what about this model? I plan to use this not every day but for short weekend trips. My father plans to use this for his Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

I've become a bit of an Anker zealot lately and have bought batteries, a mouse, a keyboard and a bluetooth speaker from them. All work incredibly well and easy way beyond what the price suggests (sort of like the OPO).
As for the batteries I have the Astro slim 4500 and the 10k mAh bank and both work as advertised. The capacity on them seems to be lower if you're filling from empty (probably heat related) so if I NEED the batteries to stretch a short camping trip I'll try to do more topping off as time allows.

It depends what you're looking for. The way physics works, you won't get the whole advertised mAh. You'll only get about 70% of it (rest is lost as heat) given that, a 10,000mah battery pack will only provide 7000 to charge which will only charge the one plus from 0-100% twice ONLY if you're charging the phone which while it's off. I'm looking at getting one that will harte the phone 3 times and that also has a a % indication on the battery pack. I've only found one for 15000mah and has the LED % indicator

OnePlus one and AutoPowerON feature seems to be not compatible.
Consider to buy one without AutoPowerOn on plug.
Actually, the OnePlus has a good battery life, and you surely can make it run for 2 days easily with only messaging and internet. Though, I think a 10k mAh should be more than enough for a couple of days. I actually have a 2000 mAh battery only in case when I'm out of home for more than 24h but I've never used it. I'm also using the power Quick Tile and I think with the "energy saving mode" enabled you can last one and a half day easily
