Z00A is not recognized by PC, not even charge only mode. - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever I try to connect it to my pc, it only charges but the option for mtp/ptp is not showing up. It's also not recognized by adb even though I enabled USB debugging. I tried reconnecting, reinstalling drivers but to no avail. Is this already a hardware failure or can I still do something about it?

Does your phone still charge slowly from PC ? Does the charge light light up ?
Could be data cable became faulty and now only charges if it does.
Could be USB board.
Could be drivers.
Could be a windows update blocking your drivers.
Many things that only you can possibly try to possibly resolve but
1) first try a new data cable and another pc

The phone still charges, but really slow. Even though I only have the screen on, the battery level actually goes lower. The charging LED does light up.
I tried several cables already but to no avail. I will try connecting on my laptop and see how it goes.

Well, it still did not read my phone. Installed the drivers first before connecting, tried other ports, other cables, but still not working. Also, when I try to charge it when open, it doesn't have the LED light on. But if it's turned off, it shows the LED.

@notinthemood
Now would be the ideal time to give details of IFWI version in Bootloader , build , date in settings etc .
Hopefully it is firmware problem now
And not USB board , or USB port attached to it , ugh !

I had this after MM came out and I tried everything to the point where I thought my usb port was broken.
I ended up completely wiping my phone (Internal memory too), then re-flashed MM firmware via ADB and it was fine.
Suspect I had a downloaded a dodgy/corrupt mod and it wiped part of the OS code for USB or just killed USB?

Best and easiest method for future reference to rule out software , if in full stock M and providing a factory reset didnt suffice , is a simple official downgrade via ext sd , flashing the official downgrade version - NO PC required If problems then persist ,then it would be definately be hardware after.

If @notinthemood could follow if in stock M , this would be ideal to rule out software :good:

Oh wait. Does that work on custom ROMs? It isn't really stock but rather a cleaned up rom.

Hence why i asked earlier your IFWI version , it would`ve determined your bootloader status being unlocked , since you never answered i assumed you wasnt unlocked !
When people try to help , its best you answer the questions to your best ability .
So , next questions are... do you have TWRP recovery ? is your IFWI version in bootloader 0094.0173 ?
If the answer is yes then --> try this.....AT your OWN risk ...as always !

Oh my, sorry about that. I don't know how to check the IFWI version so I assumed that it's on the about page in the settings. And yes I do have TWRP.

All OK now ? Fixed ? Reboot to bootloader for IFWI version, you are on a year old custom ROM so IFWI should be what I stated earlier anyhow.
Just had a check at your recent posts
You are a maintainer for another device it seems , strange you have not sorted this out already

IFWI version is 0094.0177. Would it still be fine to flash that stock rom?
I actually misplaced this phone for almost a year. Just found it again and it's a mess but I still want to use it since it is a powerful device.

@notinthemood
Restore your back up first . A maintainer of another device surely knows the basics ?????
I'm pretty sure .0177 is locked bootloader, maybe my mind is playing tricks on me and .0173 is and 0177 is unlocked ,
If you have root , does it function OK ?
Maybe , with the device being over a year old , use Asus bootloader unlock app to be on the safe side.
Even so , sounds all very strange to me
Goodluck

Root functionality is fine. Reinstalled Greenify and it asked for root access and I was able to grant it. Also, I used Asus official bootloader unlocker before. The white background when booting confirms that it is unlocked, right?
Also, I already have restored its backup. I thought that would fix the problem but it didn't.

Problem with alot of heros and no fix found USB/ADB

i have seen a problem with alot of heros and mine, to do with when it is connected to computer the drop down menu doesn't appear for sync or mount sd card. i have tried everything and nothing works, the only way you can connect to pc is through fastboot i've tried to -
- checked enable debugging
- update my recovery (thought it was a bad flash)
- reflash radio roms (thought it was a bad flash because someone else had this problem)
- updated hboot
- updated roms
- tried a few different usb cables
- drivers up to date and reinstalled ( mojos post) edit
anyone know what i could do to totally wipe my phone and start again? like original radio, rom, hboot, recovery. thanks in advance for help, i know quiet a few people could do with the help.
Solution found!
i dont know how it worked but it did,
- i installed a 2.1 eris rom which got things rolling on the phone
- installed the new htc sync that was taken from the legend in this post! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653351
- returned back to madaco 3.2 and works perfectly!
Try re-installing the drivers on your computer.
hmm maybe a stupid and too simple suggestion, but are you using any kind of task killer app ? try ignoring the pc sync process,
worked for me,
regards Wouter

Install an RUU.

Sparra, i'm having this problem also. Extended discussions have been happening on Modaco too.
foxmeister: you can't instal an RUU if you can't get the phone connected via USB
thanks people, going to try killing pc sync task dont think it will work though maybe will, yeah cant install ruu because phone doesnt connect to computer if you look at OP.
i had the same problem with my phone, had to send it in for repair as even after flashing the RUU update in fastboot i couldnt get anything

there is a thing call micro sd card reader.
before ur phone crash do u did a nandroid backup? if u do pls try restore to the previous one =)
i would of done this but my original nandroid backup was lost!! , wonder if anyone elese has an original unbranded nandroid backup? would be good to try.
From what I can see, you CAN flash roms (updated recovery/hboot etc). ADB is working?
My guess is that you're using one of the Eclair based roms, in which usb-pc didn't work.
Try downloading mountusb from the market.
Yeah sorry i can flash roms through recovery, but no adb, computer doesn't recognise the phone.
I can connect in fastboot and all works to pc in that, I have modaco 3.1 and have used all versions of his Rom, problems started around version 2.5 or so.
Ive also tried mount usb! Might have to send back to htc!
If you put your phone into fastboot and connect, can you then run an RUU against it?
Regards,
Dave
Try another computer and see if it works
If your doing this at work, a lot of companies stop the USB ports from working.
Tried another computer and doing the ruu in fastboot, its my home pc so all usb ports work, ok pretty sure its the phones software and not a hardware problem! Thanks for suggestions!
Yeah. It's a software issue, as you can use the HEROIMG.ZIP method (search here or modaco) from the microSD when you hold vol.down + power. You also get normal fastboot. So no hardware is broken
But... Nothing I've seen mentioned can fix it. Flashing seems to do nothing. I guess there is some NAND somewhere that needs a wipe/reflash (probably the same NAND that stuff like the IMEI is stored in, but that's just a guess at the architecture). If we could find the NAND, we could compare a dump between a broken and working phone and see...
Yeah sorry i can flash roms through recovery, but no adb, computer doesn't recognise the phone.

it doesn't see it or says "no drivers found"
which os are you using
i can charge and usb mount even without drivers ...
It doesn't know what it is so doesn't install correctly. It's Windows 7 I don't have an issue with the druvers it worked fine before.
See http://android.modaco.com/content/h...om/300825/usb-device-not-recognized-solution/ on modaco. It's worth a shot, but bear in mind I think it will wipe /data. Might be hard to do a nandroid before though with no SD (as many people experience with this issue)
Well, I have the same problem with my hero and I have original rom, my hero isn't even rooted...

HTC Desire HD -

Hello Everyone
I'm here asking for advice.
I have searched all the forums for a similar problem to mine and not come across anything that either seemed to be the same issue or was something I understood to be.
I am no tech head by my own admission and do have to look up a lot of terms on here so please be patient with me!
I have a HTC Desire HD. I recently rooted the phone using the Advanced Ace Hack Kit downloaded form this forum which also turned the SD card into a gold card and installed clockwork mod.
I also installed the ROM "virtuous_quattro_alpha3_pyramid". This whole process worked fine and the phone rooted.
I then tried to install "update-LC-ICS-1.0.beta4-DesireHD-signed" as I was trying to get a version of the Ice Cream Sandwich ROM that was not then available for my phone from my operator Orange.
This is where things went wrong. The installation failed - I saved the zip to the SD card, accessed the bootloader menu and instructed the phone to flash the new ROM but midway through the phone froze.
Now I cannot even access the bootloader menu - if I press vol down and power all that happens is I get a white screen with HTC on it in green, this will stay indefinitely if plugged in to the charger or until the battery runs out of juice.
At a loss and not finding any advice that I understood to help I have tried running AAHK again but when I run it in the command window an error message is shown giving me 3 possible reasons- check the adb connectivity, the phone is not plugged in or the driver is not installed or USB debugging is not enabled.
As I cannot seem to access the phone I'm worried that I have bricked it so I'm turning to the wizards of technology on here for help!
Is there anything that I can do?
As I said please be gentle in your explanations otherwise I will be looking up every other word!
Many thanks,
Anychance you can flash a RUU for the stock rom and start over?

Apologies on the double post - I wasn't aware that I had done so. An accident on my behalf. Thank you for pointing out the error.
I would love to try your suggestion but as I explained in my initial post I am unfamiliar with a lot of the terminology used here, are you suggesting I reset the phone to the software installed by the service provider, in my case Orange?
If so I have tried a factory reset twice now and it failed on both attempts. The process seems to start but then stalls and nothing happens. If i remove the battery and switch the phone back on I seem to be back to where I started from.
Thank you for the advice however.
No Cap,
An RUU is a image. You can try and download the stock image for your provider i.e Orange. from http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0a...140f_26.05.05.27_M3_release_170856_signed.exe
There should be a few posts in the forum here providing links to Official RUU's which should include Orange RUU's.
Here is also a link to a HTC tech support page providing info on errors during RUU flashing.
http://www.htc.com/us/content/docum...roubleshootingandErrorRecoverySprintTP2MR.pdf
If you have ever flashed an update to your pc/laptops BIOS. You would probable go to xyz.com and click on the latest bios update package.
once that was downloaded in exe format you would run that and it would take care of the rest.
This is pretty much the same it is the whole Flash update package.

Try installing CWM Touch from

You did mention AAHK and that was a success, seems like you should already be having S-Off so this should be possible.
Try running the ADB commands.

AT&T Galaxy S3 with CM 10 not connecting to PC

I am having issues getting my AT&T Galaxy S3 with CM 10 to connect to my PC so I can view it in Windows Explorer. Here is what I have tried doing:
Tried three different cables that worked previously
Tried different PC/laptops with the same OS, Win7 64bit
Re-install Samsung drivers
Clean flash CM10
Restore back to stock TW
Did a battery pull
I am just at a loss on what to do to get it to work. My computers don't see the phone in Device Manager, but will charge the phone. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Should I contact AT&T or Samsung to get a replacement?
Holy ****. This just started happening to me too. Tried everything!
I'm on tasks aokp with w7. I also tried my sisters mac and my homies windows 7 computer. Nothing works. Tried different cables as well. all it does is it charges!

I've seen a few others in the CM10 thread saying the same thing. The second poster here said he is having the issue to but on AOKP, which is built off of CM10. I just wonder if it's the port on the phone? I went back to stock to try it yesterday and still have the issue, so it makes me think that its either the port or something on Windows 7. But I would think if it was the port, then it wouldn't charge.
I am on AOKP on 10/28 build with Tasks thread.
This issue wasn't there last time i checked about 4 or 5 builds ago (since i don't plug my phone in that often).

Try this:
Uninstall all Drivers, and Kies if installed
Reboot
Install these drivers
Reboot
Place your phone into Download Mode and open ODIN
Hook up
See if at least those drivers will install
If they do, unhook your phone, boot it up normally, and hook it back up

DM-verity is a non issue with MTP/fastboot/adb. It's usually related to the USB cable or port itself, or a driver issue (fastboot/adb or device).
When you connect and toggle the USB setting to MTP, toggle it to charge only then to MTP again. I've noticed in the past that it takes longer for the PC to recognize or it requires a second try.

okay, so this is strange, i did what you said, PTP mode is working, only pictures are accessible though, nothing else, so the problem seems to be with MTP only

windows 8.1 only, hasn't changed. I'll try following this guide tomorrow : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-flashing-oos-v4-0-1-custom-rom-t3537757
and start from scratch, please suggest if I should be following any other guide if there is one. Thanks.
Mate, i can't tell you what to do.
On my case, it was windows 10. How i know? I try co connect at work (windows 7) & it workt fine. Reinstal windows, all ok.
FIRST, i suggest to check on another PC. If it works, 100% it's youre windows.
Ok so this is what I did. I went to device manager > right click mtp > update driver software > browse my computer > let me pick > mtp USB device > happy me ??
Good for you buddy, the mtp option doesn't even come up in device manager, it used to earlier, but not anymore

Pc not Recognizing ZF2 (Code 43)

Hi,
When I connect my ZF2 to the PC, I get an error saying USB device not recognized.
Here are some of the troubleshooting steps I've done:
Tried another cable
Tried another pc
Made sure USB debugging is enabled
Select USB configuration is set to MTP
Made sure ASUS drivers are installed an up to date
Uninstalled drivers from device manager
Updated drivers from device manager
Charging port works (even fast charges when I use the right cable)
SD card slot works
Had a technician replace the entire charging board (pcb board)
Specs:
ZOOA 2gb/16gb
Running 6.0.1
CM13 20161219 Nightly
Also, i'm thinking of restoring my phone back to original stock (that's why I would like to be able to connect it to pc) but if there is a way to put it back to stock without the need of a pc, i'm all ears for it. I'd like to give the stock ASUS updates and software a chance now cause ever since I got the phone, I have been on custom ROMs.
I'm running out of ideas.
Message me here or on facebook or maybe even on battlenet. Just please help me.

Obviously do a back up of your current set up first , then test.
Adb , USB enabled etc ?
Nothing in fastboot showing either ?
******WARNING !!! Only flash this below if you have 0094.0183 ifwi version in boot loader. !!!!*******

also , just to test this , even though developer options is showing ... do the tap on build number numerous times again
I had that bug a few times after a restart let me know

You may have to update the driver from device manager. I was alsofacing the same issue..
1. Go to device manager.
2.Right click on MTP DEVICE and Select UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE
3.Then select BROWSE MY COMPUTER FOR DRIVER SOFTWARE
4.Then select LET ME PICK FROM A LIST..................
5.Uncheck SHOW COMPATIBLE HARDWARE
6.SELECT (STANDARD MTP DEVICE)
7. In the 2nd panel Select MTP DEVICEAND THEN CLICK NEXT.
hope this will solve the problem.
If not send me a screenshot at this email id: [email protected]

Hi,
Can you point me to an instructional video on how to install a fresh copy of cm13? I just wanna make sure that I do the right steps.
Also, am just curious. Are you also using a zf2 right now? Are you on stock or custom ROM? Since CM13 has been discontinued, i was thinking of switching ROMs. Any particular ROM that you would recommend?

Interesting thing here is under developer options, when i try to change the select usb configuration, it does not let me choose anything aside from charging.

reboot to bootloader and what ifwi version is it ?
If over a year ago you will have LP version .
I will link you to the appropriate thread soon as we determine the correct ifwi.
Just as a side not , lots of people have had the same bug
I think its a driver issue that windows update have blocked

This is the 3rd time i ask for your IFWI version ?
You said its been a year since you installed CM13 , and the chances of you having M BL is virtually none existant
You probably have the LP version of M :good:
Unless someone magically sneaked in your home whilst asleep about July and upgraded your bootloader and installed 3.0.2M twrp.
The reason i asked for your IFWI version.
reboot to bootloader and what ifwi version does it say it is there ??????????

You probably have the LP version of M -- I probably have the lollipop version of Marshmallow?
I am not really well versed with the terminologies now but if you could show me how to check the IFWI version, that'd be great.

Thank you.
To check if my device is recognized in fastboot, I should connect phone to PC via cable and then reboot to bootloader, correct? I'll do that when I get home.
Would you recommend STOCK or a CUSTOM ROM yourself?
