Hi,
coming from Samsung devices with a long rooting and flashing experience I get confused with my HTC this time. Read many guides and How-to's but that didn't light my bulb.
So, I am S-off, rooted, TWRP, and SuperCID. current SW-version is 3.29.161.5
I plan to flash the newest European unbranded version, and here is my problem: I find old RUU's, some new "Firmware", sometimes "Roms", recoverys etc. Is there one complete file I could flash via Recovery or ADB to get it done, keep rooted and S-Off, get European OTAs, and if so, would that do a full wipe?
If you have a link to the solution, please provide. Thnx

Flash this Nand (international 3.28.401.7)
Then flash This firmware
use this guide for flashing firmware if u have external sd

Read carefully and u shouldn't have any issues.
U will now be stock international and should be able to receive OTAs

Great, Thnx. Flash the nand with TWRP, right? Or is it from a different Custom recovery? Do I keep root, or must I root again after flashing? Is that full wipe?

That will be a install of a fully stock nand (no root or personal data)
Just backup any apps u want to keep with titanium backup
flash nand and firmware as above
flash su zip yo regain root
then restore apps with titanium

Got that, no problem. Sorry, edited my thread while you already answered, so my last question again: Flash the nand with TWRP, right? Or is it from a different Custom recovery?

I tried to flash new firmware using the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2696282 but it doesn't work. It says it's failed; I've done it numerous times to no success. How do I update my HTC__622 to version 3.xx.xx? I checked MD5 file and it says its correct. I used the file from this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696514, but it still doesn't work. I'm trying to update my firmware so I can use the latest sense roms

Just another thing, do I need to lock bootloader and then unlock later on? Do I keep my root? Or do I have to root it again?
Sorry, I got so excited :fingers-crossed: finally gonna get some lovin' from the other sense custom roms! <3
Lastly, will my root be gone when I restore this? Will my phone brick if I update it to OTA after the flashing of the zip?

No need to relock bootloader ... never do that.
You will lose root but you can easily re-root.
You don't flash the zip ... you need to extract the zip on your PC and transfer the contents to your device TWRP/BACKUPS/yourserialno/thisfolder
Restoring a nandroid backup will not brick your device.
Furthermore, your intention is to flash the latest Sense custom ROM after your firmware is updated to 3.32.708.4 and those custom ROMs come pre-rooted, so no need to manually root it.

Oh, and if at some point in the future that I wanna try out the lollipop roms such as Skydragon, do I need to update firmware? Is the firmware in that rom different from the ones in sense roms? In other words, will I encounter problems if I flash a GPE Lollipop rom?
You can install GPE 5.0 SkyDragon on your 3.32.708.4 firmware but not on lower version like 2.11.708.2
The only problem you may have is WiFi disconnected when screen-off but to some including me, this is not happening ... only for some people on some firmware.

If you are S-On you will need to re-lock your bootloader for the OTAs, If you are S-Off there is no reason to re-lock.

Even with s-on you do NOT have to relock the BL for ota's .....

That was what I've been told, and have also read on other sites. For example.
Personally, I never worry about OTAs. Being s-off and flashing firmware is a lot quicker than waiting on my carrier to update.
But thanks for clearing that up for me.

That's for manual updating via the ota zip. The thing i ment was official ota via update menu inside OS with stock recovery.
Hi friends, I am getting notifications to update my M8 to marshmallow.Its with unlocked bootloader,rooted and with S-OFF and running stock rom.Currently its running Android 5.0.1 with Htc sense version 6.0 on a Rogers(canadian) network.Will it be safe to update it to marshmallow?Will i be able to root it afterwards?Any suggestions please?Thanks
You will need an unrooted (never rooted) stock Rogers ROM, and corresponding stock recovery, in order to update by OTA.
Otherwise, there haven't been any issues reported (such as root) with Marshmallow. Root requires a newer version SuperSU (2.51 or later), but otherwise there aren't any major issues.

Nope, unrooting won't work OTA will still fail). I specified never rooted for that reason.
You can use a TWRP backup, if you made one before rooting. Otherwise, you'll need to find a stock (unrooted) TWRP backup on the forums.

I have a copy of final lollipop OTA zip file which i used last time 3-4 months ago.Can i use that?File is "OTA_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_Rogers_WWE_4.20.631.2-3.34.631.4_release".

I'm not sure what you are asking. You can't run the OTA as-is, in order to return to stock ROM, if that is what you mean. This will fail for the same reason a Marshmallow OTA will fail (due to modified software) in addition that version check will probably also make it fail (you can't OTA to the same version already on the phone).
You might be able to extract the ROM for the zip file. But this can be risky, too. Its best you find a previously posted TWRP backup of the stock ROM; or ask someone to post it.

Thanks redpoint!! Please bear with me due to my limited knowledge.I have my own twrp back up which i made just after i got the phone and before doing anything but its an year old backup.I think at that time it was android 4.4.3.But after that my phone took 3 OTA updates.So i can i still use my old stock android 4.4.3 TWRP backup?
I also have recovery.img which i made just after getting OTA update 6-7 months ago.I used "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p43 of=/sdcard/recovery.img" to save recovery image.

That one is probably too old. The backup needs to match your firmware (hboot, radio, etc.) or at least be close.

Stop trying to invent ways around it. You can dance around and cluck like a chicken if you want, it still won't make a previously rooted ROM never rooted.
You've been told the proper way to proceed.

Hi, I'm a long time Android enthusiast, owning, rooting and modding a Nexus 4, LG Optimus V, and Honor 5X. However, the HTC 10 is really confusing to me because of its new Nougat update.
I currently have a US Unlocked HTC 10 with a freshly unlocked bootloader, S-On. I was wondering if I should root it with TWRP Recovery, and install an RUU to keep root, or is that not how it works? I'm jut very confused as to how to keep root going into the Nougat update. Thanks
Thats not how it works.
When you use an RUU, it will not keep root. It will wipe your device full factory reset.
I dont really recommend the 7.0 update just yet as there is no TWRP for it.
Since you are S-ON, you wont be able to downgrade back to 6.0.
You CAN root 7.0 using Magisk if you need to.

If Still you want to upgrade, then you should S-OFF FIRST.. so you can downgrade if you want. You can NOT S-OFF from 7.0 yet, and you can not downgrade without S-OFF, so it's a one way ticket if you don't S-OFF first. (for now.)

1) Flash TWRP.
2) Backup System Image / Boot (Clean - before root).

5) Flash Latest Stock Recovery.img. (You'll need to find it, or extract it from an OTA Zip)
6) Boot to Rom, Install OTA.
7) Repeat Steps 1-3

I was getting along fine without it, until I upgraded to 7.0 and wanted to go back... now I'm stuck.

I think there are many of us that are in this situation, I will be waiting patiently for a fix to the TWRP issue with 7.0 and then will enjoy the ride...

Yep, same here. The best option is to wait for Captain Throwback to get TWRP spruced up for Nougat. Flash Nougat then flash TWRP.

Oh yeah, good point lol. Would need to flash an older boot combination I guess. Way to dangerous for most, this is why I s-off first and mess around after. I imagine TWRP won't be long anyway

WhenI flash this ROM the device went to boot loop.
When I flash the SU with encryption, the device goes to boot loop

Update your firmware to an oreo firmware, simple as that. Oreo roms do not work on nougat firmwares

but for that I need root, which it is the problem with supersu.
I need root for Sunshine, so I can place oreo on the phone.
Do someone remember which version of Viper works with Nougat and if I need to have the phone root first before flashing the ROM.

Alright, i will ask this question.
Why do you need root? Why do you need s-off. Why can't you go back to stock and take the OTA to oreo first, hasn't t mobile released the oreo update yet?

That file will bring the phone to box stock and at that time you will be able to update to oreo.
