Best under £100 device - Device Reviews and Information

My HTC has died and due to funds I am limited to something under £100 for now. I'd like a screen 4.7 or above, decent resolution and pretty all much the usual goodies for a daily phone use, ie 4g, bluetooth, tethering etc. Of course I am not expecting HTC 10 quality!!! But most budget phones are usually 1gb ram which can make operation a bit sticky.
I've looked at the Chinese phones (Doogee, Cubot etc) which seem to offer a lot for the money, some makes me think it is likely good marketing! I am also worried about the roms installed on them, whether they contain other unwelcome apps, does google play work like a normal Android.
Please move this thread if in the wrong forum.
Thank you.

Take a look at the Doogee Y6. I bought it for my daughter. Nice phone and working out of the box.

Is Nexus 7 2013 outdated?

I am tempting to get a brand new Nexus 7 2013 for $180. Just want to hear what you think. At this time in the market, among all choices, is it a good product, for now, for the next few years? Thanks.
I have it for almost 2 years and I think it's really great tablet, the battery life is still good, no lags. Iam using custom rom and I watch usually movies. About the gaming, I don't think you are going to have problems. And definitely I will use it for more years, but iam not sure, that is going to receive marshmellow.

I bought one a couple months ago and am totally happy with it. Specs are good enough for another couple years, IMO. Also have the Nexus 10, and it's really showing its age, wouldn't recommend that one. One great thing with the N 7 is that there's a strong developer community supporting it, and I believe that'll continue.
but iam not sure, that is going to receive marshmellow

It *does* have Marshmallow -- and NFC -- and wireless charging. It's still reasonably fast and has excellent screen resolution -- even by today's standards. The only real problem that I have with it is the lack of native SD card support, and I can work around that easily enough with Stickmount and an OTG cable. IMHO there is still nothing comparable at the sub $200 price point.
FWIW, I bought an ASUS Zenpad S8 when it came out a few months ago ($200). Comparable resolution (but in a 4:3 form factor), a *bit* faster on benchmarks (not noticeable in routine use), SD card but no NFC or wireless charging, still on Lollipoo (with on word on when, if ever, Marshmallow will be available), rootable, but with no alternate ROMS. Battery life is comparable to the N7. I find myself using them more or less interchangeably, but if I had to choose one, it would be the N7.
It's like deja vu all over again...

Why is this phone so underrated ?

I got an HTC 10 a couple of days ago after my sister bought my nexus 6p from me, I got it thinking about getting a 2016 nexus once it gets released in Germany (usually a couplw of months after the US's release ) but now I'm thinking of keeping it.
Why is the phone so underrated? It feels noticeably faster that the Galaxy Note 7 for example and it looks way nicer than Samsung's new ui .
I still think the nexus 6p takes better pictures, but the HTC 10 runs circles on it when it comes to speed, the difference is very noticeably.
HTC can't really compete with companies like oneplus 3 I know this, but 700 euros is outrageous, with 500 they may have had a chance.
Why would anyone choose the HTC 10 instead of galaxy, which looks fancier and takes better pictures and costs the same?
Nevertheless in my opinion is the most balanced on the market right now, it didn't deserve to fail so bad.
I don't want HTC filing for bankruptcy, they build amazing , yes the 10 is on the too chunky side , but it feels sturdy.
What do you think ? Does HTC have a chance of making a comeback ?

HTC has a really bad reputation and it's a well deserved one. I don't personally think they can bounce back unless they knock the Nexuses out of the park. This device has issues. The volume of the speakers is abysmal compared the M7, M8, and M9, many phones have defective WiFi chips (mine included), the radio is hit or miss and doesn't get reception in a lot of places that my Note 5 did, the screen issues (red tint and banding) put people off, the standby time as a result of the defective WiFi chip puts people off, the glass on the camera holds fingerprints like nothing else which means it has to be wiped every time you want to use it, etc. It's a great device for XDA's community but for the average consumer it falls flat on its face against other flagships around the same price point. If Samsung didn't lock the bootloader on their SD 820s, I'd have a Note 7 myself right now.

I chose the 10 because of it's build quality, close-to-nexus feel, speed, camera, audio and more. In essence, I chose it because it was the best device that fits my needs. Not everyone has the same taste and also marketing plays a crucial role in product exposure to the popular. Product popularity doesn't affect user experience so I could care less if I own a product nobody has or likes, or how it's company is doing, this device is perfect for me.
If I wanted to buy into popularity and mainstrean, I'd have an iPhone and beats headphones.

I don't mind that it is underrated, didn't or wouldn't matter to me. i like HTC. I don't have any of the problems some people have, call me lucky but not one HTC phone I ever had(I had them all, EVO, EVO3D, ONE M8, M9 and 10). WiFI works, speakers are good( I don't see my phone as a boombox), Sprint signal is sometimes spotty( that's Sprint). Camera is great(it's not a Nikon DSLR). As far bulky, I think the S7 Edge is bulkier. The 10 has been the best phone yet and yes I had the M8. I have no complaints.
Best phone out there for me and I've tried just about everything. Also nice to have a rare phone for a change

@EtherealRemnant My phone is perfect in every way. No wifi, data, sound or screen issues at all. Why didn't you take yours back? Im also getting over 5hrs screen on time so battery is perfect for me. 2% drain overnight with wifi on.

I'm shocked to see how many people care about the speakers, I'll take smaller bezels any day, I use my headphones 98% of the time and keep my phone silent all the time, I only use the speakers when I want to show a friend a video.
My device has a yellow tone area around the the lower part of the screen I'm gonna get it exchanged.
I would be all over a 5.5" HTC 10 , I know the new nexus is going to have a 5.5"acreen but with the trademark big HTC bezels +on screen buttons you end loosing 30-35% of the screen state, which is a big no. I miss the days of the nexus 5/6 and LG G2 bezels
I'd have a Galaxy Note 7 but I've burned by touchwiz all too many times, I have to stay strong this time!!

I always root for my favorite companies, also if a device sells well it's in the best interest of the manufacturer to update it quick and keep it working hassle free

In which way do you find it bulkier? Yes it's a bit taller and wider but it's nice , the screen is noticeably bigger , and nevertheless is a couple of grams lighter
I played with both HTC 10 and S7 Edge for a couple of days and i chose HTC 10. Yes S7 Edge Camera seem slightly better but if you learn how to use HTC 10's Camera, It takes photos and records videos good enough i would expect from a Phone. Was a pre-order which means I've been with it for quite some time and I have never ever experienced any problems like i've just read here. I give it a 5 Star
I just cancelled my order for a Note 7 to buy the HTC 10 instead. At first, it seemed like the Canadian Note 7's bootloader would be unlocked, but it isn't. The 10 is a better choice when it comes to customization and long term 3rd party support, software-wise. And it seems built a lot more durably that the Note 7. I had thought of getting one in the past, but 32 GB is very small (even 64 GB is too small for me). With an SD card, I'll do alright, thought.
As for how underrated the phone is... Good question. Part of why I had passed on it before was the small internal capacity and the high price compared to other phones. There are many phones that have similar specs but are less expensive. But I think that when it all comes down to it, the 10 is a very good quality phone, and it's more than just its specs. As for its problems, worst comes to worst, it can be exchanged.
not underrated at all....
no advertisements as usual.....
priced a little high(paid around 690USD as mine is standalone ) with less of open source so most of them are staying away from it...
very few carriers are giving it out on monthly installments....

Here in AUS every carrier has the htc 10. But you are right i haven't seen 1 advertisement about it.
Htc never seems to advertise anymore. I remember when the evo came out, every other commercial was about it. Got me to buy one, lol.
I don't know why, either. But I don't care. The only issue I've had with mine is the screen tint, but it's gotten better with time and I honestly don't notice it anymore. It's hands down my favorite phone I've ever owned. I was thinking of the Note 7, too, but it's not an option because of the locked bootloader.
I'm not sure it is underrated ? Every review i've seen more or less says great phone, maybe one of the best on the market, I don't think HTC have a bad rep either do they ? Every HTC i've had just keeps on working and i would argue 18months down the line they work better than most.. In work we use Samsung notes and they are painful to use in comparison I can't stand touchwiz (although the actual note taking part with the S-Pen is excellent) .. I pre-ordered the 10 also, love it no regrets actually due an upgrade and not bothering until maybe lured by a nexus and a 5.5" screen...
I notice a lot of HTC haters posting lot of bad feedbacks on this great device... Besides too few ads seen on tv and a higher price when launching the product.
Cost has a lot to do with it, while I feel it's worth it at $600 USD (which is what I got it for) anything more than that and I wouldn't have gotten it. While it's a great phone, it's hard to lay down that kind of money for anything.
There are many phones over $600. In fact, some phones, specifically the 6S plus and the note 7 costs north of $800.
I'm not sure why the 10 alone gets bashed when there are phones out there hundreds of dollars more. Some are willing to pay a certain price to enjoy something. Saying X should be X amount is an opinion and is no different than saying that paying $200 for jeans makes no sense when you can buy some for $20 or even less.

so disagree I had the S6 Edge because the M9 was too much like the M8 then I moved to the S7 edge, both of these phones were great but I couldn't fathom why I wasn't taken by them like I have been with all the HTC's I've owned and I've certainly owned a few. Then I bought the HTC10 and immediately sold the S7 edge. The HTC is faster, the signal at work is 4G on my S7 is was on Edge around most of the building, the music player has clarity and isn't oversaturated with bass like the Samsung's, the UI is more usable, especially the dialler which on the Samsung was a real frustration (coming up for air..................) I love the ice view which has so much more potential, the speakers are actually better balanced and give a clearer sound than p[previous incarnations and I actually use it more than I did the M8 boomsound, and I've got to say when I put my Bose headphones on this fantastic phone it sounds like nothing I have heard before, not to mention the customisation option this device has compared to the S7, S6.
The Samsung has a better camera and marginally better screen, the OLED screen is something the HTC 10 could have utilised for the ice view screen, the slo mo on the s7 is awesome (although I have not really tested the HTC slo mo or hyperlapse as yet) and the phone is really stylish and I'm afraid much like sex sells style does to, that's why Samsung sells so many phone despite all the superficial features on the s7.
Price new is to high. Picked one up on swappa for a decent price. wifi was kind of weak it seemed. Changed my setting from auto to 2.4 and turned off wifi calling which I don't need and wifi is good now. Phone signal is low it seems , but call quality is stellar and also very good . Never dropped a call yet.
I like HTC products and have had many, really like the 10 a lot. Build quality is excellent and the speakers while not loud sound nice and rich. Glad I picked it up.
There's not a lot i would change about the phone , an amoled screen , smaller bezels and 8 mm would have been nice and of course.... The price the htc 10 right is more expensive than the galaxy s7 edge and even more expensive than the galaxy s7 :/only geeks like us /HTC fans would choose it over those phones

Fitness Devices - What Works Well With The HTC 10?

Does anybody have any recommendations on fitness wearables to pair with the HTC 10?
So far, all I have found is the Under Armor Band, and the HealthBox... and a couple of Garmin devices.
On Sprint, rooted stock Nougat, if that matters.
TIA for input.
I use Asus zenwatch 3 it's work perfect

That looks like a nice device/watch. Long way from the Galaxy Gear I had with my Note 2!
Thanks for the post. Appreciate the info. Not sure what I want yet on features and that has a lot on it for sure.

I have a Fitbit and it works fine. No issues at all.
Well... I decided on a Garmin Vivosmart HR. Went basic. Haven't really worn a watch in years and I thought I'd like to stay more on the small and basic side. ASUS does seem to have some good devices they put out from different reviews I've read. My company is basically paying for it through lower insurance rates, more HSA money, and gift cards so starting out with something like this would be OK, then get another one more advanced like the ASUS if I really liked this and wanted something more.

Which one ?

if you could get one of these right now, which one.
I am quite a heavy user and have a multitude of social apps that i like to have always syncing.
i play Clash of clans quite a lot and also online streaming.
Current device is blackview p2 which has an amazing battery ( Less than advertised but still very good ).
Gets quite laggy at times as the cpu is not very good and it just feels strange.
previous device was a Huawei Honor 6 plus which was very good too.
i would like some opinions or advice as to which of the above phones are your recommendations and why please.
regards as always
I'm not a huge gamer, but the little gaming I have done has been flawless for me on the 5, and I think you're getting a lot for what you pay for as well. I might be a bit biased since I'm an owner of a 5, but I would really recommend this device!
if you're looking for a compact size flagship, then it is the mi 6 (5.15" screen), but if you're looking for 5.5" phone, then I believe you should pick the oneplus 5 as it's the developer friendliest of the bunch
I've just bought the 1+5
It was a very hard decision but the 1+5 just won as it was available to get my hands on the beast today.
I went for the 8gb ram / 128gb storage

Initial Impressions/Opinions ?

So I've been eyeing this phone for a few weeks now,I was going to get the 9t last year but didn't and I ended up getting the X2 pro which for the most part has been an excellent device and obviously much more powerful,
I'm someone who gets bored of my phone and regularly change it at least every 2 years.
The X2 pro is good in every department but the camera let's it down a lot and the 4000mah battery is decent but it can run down fairly quickly,
The software is actually good on the Realme,
Would I be crazy to straight swap my X2 pro for a mi 10t lite,
Things I like about it are:
the Sony 64mp camera
Big 2 day battery
I like iPS screens and 120hz sounds good
I'm interested to try MiUI
There are dual speakers,
Basically it has all the essential things I would need
And I'm not a gamer but do browse a lot of social media and web ,news etc.
Has anyone moved from a more powerful device to the mi 10t lite ?
What are your impressions so far ?
Or is anyone considering it ?
Am I stupid/crazy to want to move to this Perhaps lower end device ?

Definitely a great deal and a solid device especially at that price point,I had purchased the 6/128 model on Amazon for £250 but later cancelled because I wasn't too sure on it.
I don't see any reason now to pay 500+ for a phone when devices like these are being released.
I will hang on to my 1 year old X2 pro tho for a while and keep an eye on Xaoimis releases

Got mine last week too directly from xiaomi, so far im very impressed. comming from a one plus 6 with lineage installed wasnt too sure how id like it but im happy enough for now, until lineage is avaliable for it anyway also hope to find cases for it on ebay soon
Coming from a redmi note 5 pro
And before that a one plus one.
Like the screen blacks. Still I think not comparable to op1.
Cameras. I've always been disappointed with cameras. This one looks ok. Esp the macro
Works fine no glitches.
But heavy. Soo heavy. Can't get used to it. That was the last phone I buy over 180 grams ever.
I am still impressed every day (coming from a bq Aquaris X).
One week with it and I keep struggling with communications. Wifi and Bluetooth stability trouble. Trying to find solutions, but it's not what I expect when I buy a new phone. So I'll try to fix things if possible this weekend and if not, I'll send it back to Amazon. Quite disappointed at this moment. It seems a good phone for the price but tired to lose my time. I need it to run flawlessly.

Interesting comment. While I think 6.3" and 186 g can be handled (I have a RN7) I'm unsure if the "now standard" 6.7" and ~215 g are a good daily companion (because of the better CPU/SOC etc. I plan to upgrade sooner or later). At least I hope this is the limit and we do not get 7" Phablets as standard Smartphone size soon. I remember when people complained about everything bigger then 4.5"
