I screwed up. Help getting back to 5.1.1!???? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

So I got bored today. I decided to give MM another go. BIG mistake. I can't get back to lollipop. I made a TWRP backup but restoring from it gets stuck on the Samsung screen. It just says Kernel is not seandroid enforcing. I installed MM via odin and it must of upgraded the boot loader because now when I try to flash 5.1.1 via odin I get sw rev check fail device 4 binary 3 on my phone. HELP! I can't even get MM past the "LTE Plus" boot screen on MM. Any advice would be wonderful! Otherwise my s6 is a nice paperweight and I'm stuck without a phone

AFAIK, if you are on one of the 3-4 latest MM builds, you CANNOT go back to 5.1.1 anymore.
Samsung added the anti-downgrade function to those builds already.

You cannot downgrade as yaibakt pointed out. After installing the latest MM version via Odin, boot to stock recovery and wipe all user data. It will boot then.

@Poebat, may I offer to help a bit? You won't be able to roll back, but you'll feel a whole lot better about what you have.
Follow my guide here to get up to the latest firmware, rooted and with TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...uide-links-files-update-root-restore-t3366862
Then install the latest BiggDaddy ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...pment/biggdaddypi3grace-ux-rom-6-0-1-t3484252
Play around with the many options. It is a great ROM.

Damn. Last time I tried I was able to downgrade. I assumed I would be able to do the same with the latest. I'm a genius. Thanks for the heads up.

[Q] Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) GPe - Recovery issue with Lollipop OTA

Hello,
I am fighting since yesterday to get the OTA update to install so I wanted to share my current steps and hopefully someone can suggest how to move on.
I have a GT-I9505, initially 'samsung version'. I installed TWRP in order to install the GPe edition. My phone is rooted.
I used to have TWRP 2.6.x
A few days ago, I got like many the OTA update for Lollipop. I let the phone download it and reboot. That´s when things became a bit more complicated.
After reboot, it went to TWRP where no update happened. If I reboot, I get back to be GPe version 4.4.4
I tried upgrading TWRP to a recent version without better results. I tried with TWRP 2.8.1.0
I have read in several places that the issue is that the OTA update expects the stock recovery.
Unfortunately so far I did not find a stock recovery for my S4 that does the trick.
I tried using the "Miustone_stock_recovery-flash-GE4.3". I could install the recovery.
I did save the OTA zip but I don´t know how I can skip the download and use the OTA zip... so so far I do it the 'lazy-lengthy' way and I wait for the download.
After flashing this 4.3 recovery, I get a slightly better result (but nothing better than I got using TWRP): After downloading the OTA, the phone reboots, goes to recovery and it tries to install the OTA update but it fails with the following message:
mmc_test.ko has unexpected content... Status 7
Can anyone suggest a way to easily install this OTA? I guess using a correct recovery could help... if I could find it.
Any hint appreciated.
if your rooted, you cannot OTA update.

Are you saying the recovery is NOT the issue and if I unroot (I guess this is possible) it would work ?
As an update, I just tried now using Miustone_Stock_Recovery-flash-XXUBMF8.zip and I get the same result.
I have seen alot of people complain about the 7 error, i even got it when i attempted to update. Everything i read states you cannot update with the OTA .zip if your phone is modified with root and/or a custom recovery.
My advice is use one of the 3 or 4 GPE roms from the 9505 thread. But if you want to totally factory reset your phone have fun, to each his own. :good:

Hi Justda,
First of all, thanks for your time and answers. My expectations are fairly low actually I installed the GPe version thinking it would make it simpler.
I was happy to get the OTA thinking I could upgrade in a click...
I realize from your answer that the OTA I am getting on my I9505 is actually meant for the I9505G and thus will not work whatever I do (correct me if I am wrong).
I will follow your advice and pick up one of those ROMs. Do you recommend a specific one?
iBastid or Danvh are my go to guys. Both are active and have a large following of users.
Danvh is straight up no aroma install, you mod it yourself.
Bastid uses aroma to give you more initial choice with his customizations.
But its up to personal preference right now, GPE is still to new for a lot of ROM pimping...
Sent from my GT-I9505G using XDA Premium HD app
I would suggest you to use antaresone's lollipop rom

What Steps Do I Take To Update From 2.19.40.20?

So I've stayed at 2.19.40.20 because I wanted to wait to see if a better way to unlock the bootloader would be found, but I've given up and unlocked my bootloader (the unoffical way).
I want to get up to speed and update to the latest OTA.
Can I just flash the latest one or do I need to download every one til the newest update and sideload them individually?
If I have to do each one can I just load them one after the other, or do I need to reboot the phone and let it fully load to the OS for every update?
I did side load the latest one when I was coming from the 18 something that came with my phone. Loading the full 1.1gig firmware did the trick.
So just for clarification, to take me from 2.19.40.20 to 2.20.40.139 I should just flash the latest Stock ROM from the ASUS site?

Yes that should do it.
I was seriously dreading having to update, but this shows that my worries were unfounded, thanks!
I don't need to unroot as I'm flashing the whole rom, right?

You need to unroot and make sure you are sideloading the whole 1.1 gig one.

Does unrooting include removing Xposed?
Yes, and don't try to install it after you get to 139 firmware, as far as I know it still causes bootloop.
Wait, if I flash the 1.1 gig stock ROM, do I lose everything in the internal memory?

I did a little digging, and it seems that the bootloop was fixed a few days ago:

There's a new Xposed out, v78, which claims to fix a bootloop on 5.0 roms due to a security fix. I haven't tried it yet because I'm running a backup. Here is the thread and changelog.
We want the sdk21-x86 version.
Installed with no problem in TWRP with the flash able zip. Took a few minutes to boot, but seems to be working.

Good to know. No, you would not loose anything, at least I did not. Everything migrated over without any issues.
So I've gotten through sideloading the current version with no hiccups. Booted into system fine, it's the right version in the About section, and my internal memory came through intact.
I've flashed TWRP, and booted into it to install SuperSU when I got this message: "TWRP may have detected an unmodified system partition"
It explains that I can keep it as read only and make it easier to take official updates, but then TWRP will not be able to stop the stock ROM from replacing it and will not offer to root my device.
Should I keep it "Read Only" or should I allow the modification?

Root Marshmallow 6.0 Update

Hello I was able to easily root the newly released 6.0 update for the sprint galaxy s6.
First download
Cfroot for the G920F model
Download
Flash with Odin 3.10.6 or higher..
Wait for the script to finish etc and once the phone reboots, force the phone into download mode and flash the stock 6.0 recovery
Download
Then force the phone back into recovery mode and wipe cache then reboot phone back to system
Enjoy rooted 6.0 MM !
Props to the mighty Chainfire and his wizard skills
ok am i waiting when it attempts to boot recovery or just press the buttons to boot it into download again to re flash the stock recovery?
All we need now is twrp. I havent tried this root process yet.

after flashing cfroot you must wait until it finished the process..it will take a min...then after cfroot tells you it's done rooting the phone...you flash the stock recovery

i must be doing it wrong then? it attempts to boot a recovery that is not seandroid enforcing last time i tried to install the custom recovery that was for the older firmware it stuck on that screen for ever and i needed to reflash my phone. just a little worried that its gonna get stuck there.
thank you for finding this root method

we got a dump of the stock recovery (im assuming thats what the other file is to flash) so im sure it wont be long till we get a custom recovery:good:
Confirmed, works for boost mobile 6.0.1 marshmallow.
Would TWRP 3.0.0 work with this or are we gonna have to wait for that update? Need my xposed modules for sure
We dont need a MM twrp....the current twrp will work just fine to flash a MM custom rom, someone just needs to make a rom.zip we flash it on top of LP and profit.

Can't we use flashify to install zip files? I've used xposed on stock ROMs before I thought.
will this work for 925p?
Awesome now i can mess with titanium backup. . Thanks Guess supersu is not working it says no su in the binary. Redid the steps i used odin 3.10.7 it didnt boot after the cfauto was flashed it actually booted into recovery is not seandroid enforcing. forced into download mode pushed down restarted again it went to the recovery is not seandroid enforcing screen. So i flashed the recovery cleared cache phone booted thought i was good to go nope lol. Also the same happened when i tried the twrp with odin but i had to flash the rom to get back up and running so heads up.
Guys I would definitely wait for a custom recovery. What if something happens and you have no backup?! Also, you need a deodexed ROM for Xposed to work anyway! This method would be good if all you care about is little stuff like AdBlocking.
you don't need deodexed rom anymore there is an exposed that work on 5.1.1 adn 6.0 but we just need a recovery to flash it.
but i agree i would wait to have a confirmed recovery for marshmallow

What is the correct custom recovery to root the new 6.01 update?

I have tried several versions of custom recoveries to flash via Odin to root the new tmobile 6.01 fireward that was released today and have not had any luck so far.
So far I have tried using the recommended versions of twrp 3.0.2-0 with no luck:

https://dl.twrp.me/zenlte/twrp-3.0.2-0-zenlte.img.tar.html
Has anybody successfully rooted with the 6.01 T-mobile firmware that was released today? If so could you please provide a link with the exact custom recovery file you used.
Thank you in advance.

Search for 3.0.2 nobleltezt twrp and download latest version (This recovery is for Note 5 but works awesome, and S6 Edge+ TWRP stuck or won't boot)
Flash in Odin but remember to uncheck auto-reboot then reboot manually with volume down and power button combo.

Correct, I odined MM from Sammobile for the TMO S6edge+, this morning but could not get rooted and Titanium up and running all day, flashed and odined probably 15 times. Long story short, both firmwares are DPD1, and work fine.
Ok that makes sense. I'm using a COKC 5.1.1 note5 ROM on my edge plus so I guess it's the same principle just on a different Android version.

I just got this phone (SM-928T) and switched to Tmobile 2 days ago. Much happier with-mobile by the way. Anyway, I am on 5.1.1 AOGD and was weary about installing OTA updates so I didn't take incase I wouldn't be able to root. I currently have root via CF-Autoroot for 5.1.1 but, for whatever reason I cannot get TWRP installed on it though. Once I do it, it soft bricks and upon rebooting I get an error in the top left stating "RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING" I can only get back into ODIN. Recovery doesn't boot. I have to reflash with CF-Autoroot in order to get my phone to boot again. So my question is, if I install stock 6.0 firmware via ODIN or Smart switch returning me to stock 6.0 and "unroot" then flash then these files I should be on 6.0 and achieviable root again? Thanks for any info!
- Sorry If this is a dumb question, but I haven't been in the rooting scene in awhile since I had a Note 4 that couldn't be rooted on Verizon for about 2 years.

Lost WiFi after flashing 6.0.1 ROM

Here is what I did from stock 5.1.1 on a rooted verizon Note 4 (Using PaulPizz MMB29M.N910VVRS2CQB2):
Using Oden I installed:
VRS2CQB2_modems.tar.md5
VRS2CQB2_Bootloaders_NoAboot.tar.md5 and
VRS2CQB2_NoAboot.tar.md5
The phone boots into 6.0.1 (Kernel 3.10.40) and I have access to TWRP, ADB, ODIN, and root.
Paul suggested "You need to update your aboot partition to 6.0.1. the wifi driver is in the new aboot"
I am a noob and I don't understand what this means. Can anybody give me a list of steps to follow? I think I might be in over my head and returning to stock 6.0.1 might be acceptable.

dhplap, I appreciate the link to a different process but there seems to be too much assumed knowledge for me to try again (like what am I supposed to do with a .7z file). I am afraid I'm gonna brick the phone. I have flashed back to stock 5.1.1 (BPA1), verified the WiFi was working again and then flashed the stock CQC1 ROM from SamMobile. I really just wanted to get the latest security patches and have found a way to do that. My CID is still 150100523231384d4100657e54fc1200 which may be helpful in the future.
I am done for now with custom ROMs. I may take another swing at it when I have more time to educate myself. You may close this thread. My sincere thanks for your help.

That's for sure. Read the second post buddy. That's what he needed to do to update his bootloader and keep root if he wanted too, or he could have just flashed a lollipop rom. Understand or no? Sorry, can't play with you anymore right now, gotta go to work. I'll be back later though if you have any questions.
