What are your experiences with the nexus 5x's battery life? I'm a normal user since im in school most of the time. I watch a lot of youtube at home tho. If it isnt that good, are there any custom roms, kernels or whatever which will increase it?
There is a large "Nexus 5x Battery Life Thread" in the Nexus 5x general topic.
5X battery life is not good. One day from 7AM to 12PM (sometimes 10PM) and that's it. On ElementalX and Pure Nexus with some tweaks my battery life and with big cores off i increased ussage by 30%. On stock i had about 3h-4h of SOT, now even 5h. So battery life of Nexus is i would say average, but it totally enough. Also with Nexus You get 3A charger which is very fast!
I always got 3hrs SOT. even if im on stock rom or custom rom, custom kernel or stock kernel. Lucky enough if i got 4hrs.

Hey guys I recently purchased a galaxy nexus about a week ago and opted for the extended battery that I asked for at the verizon store. My question is how many hours are you guys getting off your galaxy nexus with and without the extended battery? I can't seem to get a days use with it. :/ Also do you have any recommendations on what I should do to get more time.
Turn off lte.

There are too many factors between users to simply compare battery life. What is your usage pattern, screen time, brightness levels, average reception levels, wifi usage, GPS usage, syncing frequency, etc... I get maybe six hours from a fully charged extended battery, someone else may get twenty four hours.
If you want increased battery life, lower/maximize all the things I just mentioned above and turn off LTE.

Perhaps the most effective option that doesn't require that you alter your usage patterns is using a custom rom and, more importantly, kernel.
Get one of the 4.0.3 based ROMs (like AOKP for instance) and add a 4.0.3 based kernel (I suggest Franco's). My battery life is much better with that combo. With light use I have seen upwards of 36 hours on the extended battery.
Been using the 2100mAh since I got my Vzw Nexus. Yesterday, I had it on WiFi at home with a solid connection all day with sync off, maps disabled, and GPS/Bluetooth/everything off. I got 2 hours and 53 minutes of screen on time at 30% brightness. With WiFi on entirely and 5 bars of it...I would expect closer to 4 hours of screen on time...and I would see that back during the ICS days. Currently running Rascarlo with Trinity a67.
Think its time for a new battery? This is by far the best ROM and Kernel combo results I've seen on terms of battery life. How long do you guys keep your batteries for?

I've had my battery for quite a while running CM10 + Franco Kernel. The newest Franco Kernel when it comes to battery life is INSANELY good, I was starting to think the same thing as you but man... Franco Kernel changes my battery life and it barely ever drains.
You could try a different combination of kernels to see if it helps. And there is a method to doing a full charge (google it) something involving fully draining it.
Do you have any wakelocks? use the app, BetterBatteryStats to find out.
Debug your phone before throwing money away towards a new battery.

I appreciate the response. I use BetterBatteryStats, GSam Battery, CPUSpy, and AutoStarts (for disabling everything related to Maps). I'll try out Franco's new kernel. Thanks for the tip. I've been stuck on Trinity for a while...perhaps it is time for a change. Which ROM are you running if I may ask?
Edit: Which Franco kernel were you referring to? His latest nightly 290 or his latest Milestone 6?

Batteries last about a year charging once a day. If you run your battery dry a lot, expect to change sooner. My battery rarely goes below 40% and I try not to let it go below 10% when it does. I fully expect a year and I am @ 10 months. If you run it below 20% often I would say you probably need to change it already. YMMV of course.
...
Is there any other way we could check to see battery health? I know in better battery stats under 'tests' you can see it says battery health is 'good' but is there any other way?
Possibly max and min voltages? Ie fully charged ~4200mv and fully drained ~3500mv

You're looking for an app that compares designed capacity (1720mAh? I don't even know how much our phone has..) with actual capacity (which would probably be around 1500mAh after a year). I don't know of one, but if it helps, that's what you're looking for!

I have a chance to make deal to swap my Sony Xperia M with a used Galaxy Nexus. Obviously the main issue here would be the battery life, can anyone shed a light on how good/bad is the battery life on the Galaxy Nexus is? the Xperia M has a very good battery life, previously I owned a Huawei Y300 that had below average in battery life. Did any of the latest release of Android for Gnex brought better battery life on the GNex?
Ya. I'd definitely swap for galaxy nexus. If i had a xperia m for the screen. You really can't tell difference in pixels in normal usage but gn definitely has a sharp screen. Xperia m used lcd where gn uses amoled. So it'd depend on you what you prefer. Phone feels perfect im hands and is very smooth. You don't feel much lag anywhere. Haven't noticed on my phone much. Just one or two stutters very rarely.
Regarding battery I'm disappointed. Sony phones usually charger to 100% under an hour or 1:30hrs. But this phone takes 2+hrs for a complete charge and discharges quickly. Standby time is average but it just drains the battery when screen on. I usually get 3hrs screen on time with low brightness. Standby time depends on ur usage. You can't compare b the development support between nexus and xperia.
If charging your battery twice a day is not a problem. I'd definitely recommend you to get it.

I'm not too keen on charging my phone twice a day. Okay that made it clear, I think I should stay with my M, I really crave battery life ever I got my first android
I would have to say the same thing. In my opinion the galaxy nexus is a better phone all the way around but battery life has something left to be desired. If battery your main concern stay where you are at.

Battery is fine on the GNex is fine. Currently on 2h sot. 6h off charger full brightness with fluctuating 3G.

Surely it depends on how you use your phone, am getting 3-3,5h sot because am switching 2g-3g depends on what i need. Mainly for chat apps so i use 2g

Some of the reviews are calling the 5X battery life atrocious. No idea how this is possible without bloatware, newer hardware and a decent battery + marshmallow.... Even the 6P is getting bad reviews in this department. Can anyone comment here?
Reviews are all over the place, aren't they? Not uniformly negative.
This one, for example, is very positive.
The reviews mostly use scripts and the like anyway. Real world results from the forums are probably more informative.
People kept saying the same thing with the Nexus 5 battery being horrific. With my usage and what I had installed I can get 14-15 hours before I have to plug it in. My other devices are about the same except of few devices like the Xperia when I have stamina mode on.

Well, let's take a look :
The screen is %4 and the battery is %17 bigger than Nexus 5.
If we add a little bit more efficient battery advantage and a new IPS panel to this equation we can expect maximum %18-20 better battery performance than Nexus 5. That's all.
It means if you get 3h of SOT with your Nexus 5 you may except maximum 3h and 30-40 min SOT with Nexus 5X.
So no need to be too pessimist but also optimist.
Expectations mostly ruin the life...
Hi,
Do you have problems with the battery life on the stock ROM?
No matter what version I am running like 7.0 or 7.1 the battery life is still bad like 2:30 hours of screen on time while just looking on Facebook and Twitter, nothing hard...
My Moto G 2013 had 5 hours in those conditions even more sometimes and that's strange beacuse 5X has a larger battery and perhaps a more energy efficient SoC.
Do you know any costum ROM wich has great battery life and RAM management?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Seems pretty normal for the N5X. Try the search function or read the Advanced Interactive Governor thread for options to you can try. Don't expect miracles though.
720p screen phones with weaker processing will get longer battery life than a 1080p screen phone with stronger processing. Moto G devices get some of the longest battery life for this reason.
2.5 hours is especially low for a 5x though. 3-4 would be average when draining from 100% to 0% while actively using the screen a lot, and I regularly see 5-6 hours SoT with my usage.
Couldn't say anymore without screenshots. There is a battery thread in General for sharing screenshots and you can see examples of which to post.
