You have to set your language / region to a supported one.
For example if I set my location to English (Ireland) all I get is Google on tap, however switch to English (United Kingdom) and hey presto Google Assistant kicks in fine ...

Brilliant! Thank you! I love Google Assistant, and the contextual screen search is very good, however, I was missing ability to select specific text on the screen, even from a photograph with Google Now On Tap.
Now I can keep Assistant, but switch back to Now On Tap when needed.

Ok google from any screen - voice training

Hello all,
I am trying to turn on ok Google detection from any screen in the Google app (settings ~ voice ~ ok google detection).
When in voice training, it asks me to say OK google thrice. But It does not seem to detect my voice (only during this training) even once!
I have verified that the app has the necessary permissions. Worth pointing out that it works ok when I manually click the microphone within the Google app.
Has anyone else faced a similar problem? And/ or could make suggestions to help?
Thanks!

Your voice settings may be set to English US and you may have different accent. Try English India if you are Indian or try saying Google in a US accent.
Worked for me.

Still can't use Google Assistant

I have heard that Google Assistant is rolling out to devices with Marshmallow and above, but my Galaxy A7(2017) is on Android 6.0.1 and still haven't received it. I tried long pressing the home button but it's just the google now or something and not google assistant. Any help on how to get Google Assistant besides using Allo?
I have A3 2017 with the same 6.0.1 as you. At leat I assume Assisstant works fine for me. The only thing I can think of is that you need to use english language on your phone. Im from Hungary, but when I got the phone, the first thing was to change the language. Everything works OK, even the Assisstant. I hope thats it
Hello, I had the same problem so here is how i fixed it:
1. I set my search language and phone language to English (United States).
2. Updated my google and google services app to the leatest from apkmirror.
3. Went to applications and cleared all data from google and google services.
That's it, went into the google app and google assistant was there!

Google Assistant even on 7.1.1

How is it possible that my device has gotten the 7.1.1 OTA, updated and yet no Google Assistant. I have tried everything, but yet when I long press the Home button Google Now on tap comes up.
PS: For your own sake those really smart people who will post links that will lead me to Google search results, keep it to yourself
I was having it in 7.0 but afyer upgrading my device no assistant is present.
From what I understand it depends if Google has activated it for your device and also what you have your language settings configured to.
Here is what I use: http://https://github.com/amirzaidi/Launcher3/releases
I am on 7.0. I got google assistant when i registered as google beta tester. And then its important to set your language to english.
Update: I just received the notification to enable Google Assistant and after the initial setup. I finally have Google Assistant! ?
It's popping up every time when I long press home button. I would like to get rid of it and gesture from bottom which brings up Google now. I'm not using none of them.

Change language in Android settings to English UK. After that if you long press home you'll get it.

Question Bugs - Voice Dictation & Lock screen Text

Hi all!
I got my RM8P yesterday. I really like the device, but definitely see the software lackings that everyone has mentioned.
My current bugs:
1. I copied my data from my Pixel 6 Pro to the RMP8. It also copied the lock screen text I had "My Google Pixel 6 Pro, *****es". So when I go into personalized setting to try to change this text, it won't let me. When I click the option, it just goes back to the Settings menu.
2. More importantly, my voice dictation/voice to text functionality is now broken. It was fine until this afternoon when I updated a bunch of apps in Play Store. Now, no voice dictation is working for any app. I've tried every possible app and rebooting. The OK Google still works so it's "hearing" my voice in general.
Any feedback?
Thanks!
EDIT: I figured out that enabling Google Assistant (Hey Google) broke the voice dictation. Strange that it breaks it.

I was about to tell you that disabling hey google fixed the dictation thing. The first os layer is funny af, it does that and doesn't carry the swipe between apps gesture. And a bunch of things, I worked the hey google with the swipe from a corner gesture tbh I don't use Google assistant that much but still it was a thing

I don't use hey Google assistant too often, but I do use it occasionally. It's just strange that I have to choose between enabling that functionality and enabling voice dictation. I guess I'll choose the voice dictation and give up Google assistant or enable it when I feel I need to use it at times. I'm not sure it's a Red Magic thing as it may be a broader Android thing.

Pretty sure it's only a redmagic thing. Their support has been largely useless when I attempted to alert them to this issue.

Hello, I have Alexa installed as the main assistant, if you select it as the default transcription program, it already works for you to transcribe messages. The failure after several tests I have realized that when you select Google as an assistant it stops working, the mobile does not listen to you. I have already opened several incidents on the Magic network page but they only tell me that I formatted the mobile.
