[Guide] Fix : Cannot unlock tablet after TWRP restore - Huawei MediaPad M2

If, like me, you had set a lock pattern or password on your Mediapad M2, and you did a TWRP restore (especially to a different ROM), you might see a problem where after the tablet boots up, you cannot unlock it even if you enter the correct lock pattern/pin/password.
I don't know why this happens (I even did a factory reset after the restore, just to test), but here's how you can fix it.
Boot back into the TWRP recovery.
In the TWRP main menu, press "Advanced" -> "File Manager" .
In the TWRP File Manager, go to the /data/system folder.
Find and delete the following files:
Code:
gesture.key
password.key
locksettings.db-wal
locksettings.db-shm
locksettings.db
Reboot the phone/tablet back into the ROM.
Now you should be able to just swipe the lock screen and get into the launcher screen
You can then set a new lock from the Settings, if you want.
Alternative method using TWRP Terminal: You can also delete the files from the TWRP terminal ("Advanced" -> "Terminal") by issuing the following commands:
Code:
cd /data/system
rm -f locksettings*
rm -f *.key

[GUIDE] Mini guide to root Gnex manually

1. Download and install Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Moblie_Phones_v1_4_6_0.exe
Link to download: http://www.multiupload.co.uk/YXE6FWLFAR
2. Download and install Android SDK (http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r16-windows.zip)
3. With the phone turned OFF, hold VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN and power the phone on. This will put you in bootloader mode
4. Using windows/cmd go to the folder where Android SDK was installed (make sure that the folder android-sdk/platform-tools/ contains fastboot.exe and adb.exe etc....
5. using windows/cmd go to the folder /android-sdk/platform-tools
From this folder try the command "fastboot devices" (do not include ") which should list the device connected to your PC.
6. First we have to unlock bootloader,
use this command to unlock bootloader > fastboot oem unlock
(warning.. you will loose all data)
After the bootloader is unlocked the device will reboot normally.
7. Once normally booted from the command prompt issue the commands given below (after each command press enter button)
Note: you need su and superuse.apk (which can be downloaded from here: https://rapidshare.com/files/1319181583/su.zip)
unzip the downloaded file in the same folder where fastboot.exe exist i.e /android-sdk/platform-tools/
adb root
adb remount
adb push su /system/bin
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/bin/su
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
adb reboot
Done!... your device is now rooted.
it would be good to note that many people have issues with the initial android driver installation.
if you install the drivers, but the phone doesn't show up after a period of time, open control panel -> system -> device manager and look for any devices that have a yellow triangle error (no driver). right click and open properties, and manually select the driver, not auto! the next screen will give you an option to 'select from a list', do this, and find SAMSUNG, then select the latest drivers.
after this, it can still take a minute or two the first time for drivers to install properly, you usually can see the status of this in the usb system tray icon.
if you rebooted to the bootloader (power vol(+) vol(-)), from the command line, if you type "fastboot devices" it should list a device and serial number. if not, you need to go check your drivers, something is missing. also, don't forget how magical a windows reboot can be at times : )

Hi
Thanks for this note which would help many users.
Hi, noob here.
First of all, thanks for the guide.
I have already unlocked the bootloader about a month ago (up to step 6), but would like to root.
Will my phone lose all data again if I root the phone now? I'm not even sure what this actually does, but would like to learn and mess around with it.
You will not loose data. Rooting gets access your system folders by pushing su and superuser through adb.
Hope it helps.

Did you actually test that with a stock rom?
Because adb root will not work with ITL41F at least.
Code:
./adb root
adbd cannot run as root in production builds
Furthermore the chmod for Superuser.apk is totally bogus. No need to mess with it's permissions.
i think a better way is get su and SuperUser.apk from the developers (ChainsDD) site and install it with a temporary boot CWM to install it.
(these instructions are also from memory And i rooted my one from source, but that's a bit involved)
this would mean instead of step 7 do.
7. Download CWM into the same directory as fastboot
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img (Verizon)
or
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.2-maguro.img (GSM)
Make sure to get the right version for your device.
8. download http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
onto the internal storage of the phone( "sdcard" )
9. With the phone turned OFF, hold VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN and power the phone on. This will put you in bootloader mode
10. again using windows/cmd go to the folder /android-sdk/platform-tools
From this folder try the command "fastboot devices" (do not include ") which should list the device connected to your PC.
11. Start CWM (without installing it)
fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-XXX-XXX.img
(use the right filename from step 7)
12. choose install update and select the zip from step 8.
You need to use volume up/down to navigate and power to select.

reboot/reboot recovery doesnt work in terminal

im having trouble wirh "reboot recovery" command in my terminal/adb shell
when i try to run in terminal, i get "not permitted!"
and adb shell says [1] Segmentation fault reboot recovery
if i try running reboot -f in terminal or adb shell, i get "usage: reboot [-n] [-p] [rebootcommand]"
i've checked /system/bin, and the reboot bin is there
i've checked the permisssions, originally set to rwsr-sr-x
changing them to rwxr-xr-x makes no change
i found several threads with ppl having the same trouble:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16022907&postcount=2040
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280074
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935715
the only one i found useful is the 1st one
the only way i got reboot working is by deleting /system/bin/reboot, and using "reboot -f". without the -f switch nothing happens. if i do reboot recovery -f, it only rebots
but what i really want is to reboot into recovery. any idea on how to? i read in first linked post that the problem is in symlinked reboot to busybox, thats why deleting helped somewhat. anyone has an idea on how to get rebooting to recovery in terminal working?
oh, and my rom is rcmix 4.0. i've read that problem is rom related. but i dont want to switch, because it would defeat the purpouse in the first place....
You need an insecure boot img to run adb as root. No root no reboot. From terminal instead try sudo -i reboot recovery.
sudo not found
and i have root, i do get # in terminal and adb shell. adb commands like push/pull/chmod work fine
about insecure boot image, as far as i can understand you need that in order to have root, whuch i do have. and afaik, that means pretty much all custom kernels? if im missing something here, please do explane...

Android 6.0 - SD Card access

Anybody knows how to enable third-party apps to access SD Card? Things that were working under 5.1 are not under 6.0 anymore.
Well, it seems Google is really retarded regarding SD Card access, changing API every other version:

Well, not going to root my device to gain basic features such as being able to delete photos Camera app put on SD card.
This is insane.

adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot twrp.img
** TWRP: MOUNT > SYSTEM
** TWRP: Advanced > File > "chmod 775" on system/build.prop
adb pull /system/build.prop %USERPROFILE%
** EDIT FILE, set ro.lge.adoptable_storage=true
adb push %USERPROFILE%\build.prop /system/build.prop
adb shell
chmod 644 /system/build.prop

adb reboot
Now you can format SD card as internal storage and use it for data
Thanks Radek for this!!!

Download TWRP for LG G4, run it:

In TWRP, select Mount > System, from menu, and continue according to these instructions.
ADB is part of Android SDK tools:

I don't know if it is the same problem but I believe it is, so my problem is that I can transfer files from SD to internal but it doesn't work the other way around, I don't want to unlock my bootloader so is there anything else I can do? Thanks
any idea why the G4 is stuck at the Tmobile screen after:
Using the ES root browser and changing the file build.prop manually ( ro.lge.adoptable_storage=true), got the stuck tmobile starts creen
then running the adb commands as per the instructions, then also changing the permission using TWIRP
Nazdar Radku,
the solution is known feature of MM (adopt external storage), but biggest dissadvantage of this, is that you cannot use SD card in other devices anymore - not only in PC using some reader, but not even in other LG-ie your lg g4 broke....no way to get your data back. For some reason LG didnt include this functionality of MM yet. 2nd disadvantage is slowing down your device, as acces, R/W ops are quite slower. And I agree with googles approach to SD card - they want to "protect" users is foolish - you cannot protect stupid people, they should make it as default but keep option for advanced users to access storage as before KK for advanced user as it could be done with KK & LP using that media_rw grp hack.

I don't think you should ever use a file browser to modify your build.prop. Something about the file being truncated. The modified build.prop ends up being a different size/structure or something along those lines. You should use a dedicated build.prop editor app, or adb commands only. If you had done that chances are you wouldn't have any problems.
IF you have a custom recovery you may be able to restore your original prop file through it in order to get it to boot.

I resolved the issue by basically booting back in to TWIRP, flashing the stock image again. (didnt loose any files as I didnt do a wipe)
Then ran through the commands from the previous post. But the "set" did not work for me. I then downloaded the build.prop file to the desktop using the "get" command and edited it with wordpad, saved and then sent over the edited file, followed the rest of the permissions and it worked fine then.
Good that you got it figured out but you did it the hard way! All you have to do is download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
Make a backup in the app just in case, then find the entry, make your changes, and reboot. All done on your device.

6. In aroma File manager , Go to menu , which is located in bottom strip and then select Settings.
7. Go to bottom n select “mount all partition in startup ” then exit from aroma file manger.
8. Now after exit , re-update that aroma file again and it will open again.

Help enabling adb from recovery (broken screen)

The purpose of this is to use my phone via scrcpy for my sms verification and stuff.
So far I've tried these methods of editing default.prop/prop.default, and setprop persist.sys.usb.config etc etc
but still undetected from "adb devices"
Any workaround? thanks
I'm using OrangeFox recovery.

Orange Fox has enabled ADB by default. Your screen is broken? How do you know OF has been booted?

How did you edit these files? Did you un-/repack the recovery.img inside the downloaded zip?
The prop.default in your ramdisk.img shows:
ro.adb.secure=0
persist.sys.usb.config=adb
Everything seems to be correctly from device's site. No need to edit sth.
No. Somehow I need to access to adb on OS and those settings has been disabled on new rom. As I said i need to access to my sms app
You'd like to patch the setting files via recovery to gain access with ADB in system? USB-debugging is toggled off? Are there already the adb_keys of your PC in /data/misc/adb to allow access?
Yes I need to enable usb debugging through recovery.
I think i have to enable adb first before authorizing my device on /data/misc/adb
We do both via OF:
First you should find the needed setting file and check its permissions for restoring it correctly afterwards (assuming you're already in the device's shell by entering 'adb shell'):
Code:
ls -al /data/system/users/0/settings_global.xml
Note the permissions.
Then leave the device's shell and pull the file:
Code:
exit
adb pull /data/system/users/0/settings_global.xml
Open setting_global.xml with an editor and set the line
Code:
package="com.android.settings" defaultValue="0" defaultSysSet="true" /> <setting id="7676" name="adb_enabled"
to value=1
Push the file back:
Code:
adb push settings_global.xml /data/system/users/0
and check the permissions:
Code:
ls -al /data/system/users/0/settings_global.xml
Authorizing:
On your PC search for
Code:
C:\Users\<USER>\.android\adbkey.pub
copy that file into your ADB folder. Then push it to:
Code:
adb push adbkey.pub /data/misc/adb_keys
and set the permissions:
Code:
adb shell chmod 0640 /data/misc/adb_keys
adb shell chown system:shell /data/misc/adb_keys
okay i'm now on your authorizing part, it now says something but it still says unauthorized on "adb devices"
what i actually did was to flash aosp rom and edit build.prop there and set the adb variables
USB debugging seems to be active. But I don't know why it says unauthorized. Maybe there is another setting related to ADB in settings_global.xml that needs to be activated for Xiaomi devices like yours.

Do not edit any file but the setting file. You must not change the props.
something wrong with /data encryption. I for sure pushed the adb_keys on /data/misc/adb but when I rebooted at the recovery or system it goes back nothing.
some say this was aosp system as they won't allow /data modification?
Are you able to open /data in OF and do you see the folders/files in there? With the correct names?
If yes, you don't have any problems with encryption

Then you have no chance to activate ADB and get access to your SMS.
assuming encryption is healthy in boot mode, you can enable usb-debugging and authorize RSA key from either /system or boot, no access to /data needed.
this is for custom ROM by modifying /system

take note (on stock MIUI only) scrcpy won't work on xiaomi devices, com.miui.securitycenter prevents that. unless you have bonded mi account, you can't enable USB debugging (Security settings) in developer options.
