NEED HTC m8 RUU for Verizon Device - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have verizon m8 device and need ruu for my phone. I'm the second owner of this phone and when I bought it, it has custom rom in it. In the internet I have found only 2 Ruu which works fine with my phone:
1- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589
2- DOTTAT_VZWM8_S_OFF_5.0.1_FUU
I'm using the first one because it is 6.0 however, when my battery goes below 50, it has risk of dying. If I boot my phone without charging, it is opening for 2-3 seconds then it closes and some tool of my phone wouldn't work after that ( for example status bars, or notification bars, or homebutton not working, or changing LTE to other services, I have experienced all of them).
Thus, I need ruu version for my phone. I don't want to use 2nd one because it is android 5.0, if you know any newer RUU please share with me.
Also I don't know how to use ROM or other methods, I only know putting RUU in to SD card and then install it from twrp.
Sorry for my bad english. I hope I said my needs.

The thread you linked have nothing to do with Verizon it's GPE rom/RUU ( the RUU isn't compatible with Verizon )
We need more information about the device so we can help
post the result of
fastboot getvar all
( after removing serialno,imei and meid )
Someone will guide you to the right RUU
You can't flash RUU in TWRP

I cannot do anything because my phone wont let me do it. HTC SYNC is not working, my phone is not connecting to the phone. What should I do? I tried some of methods posted online but still I have no result.
EDIT: I get "error170" while installing, which is phone connection problem.

Uninstall HTC sync manager and try again
Sent from my HTC M8 using XDA Labs

Also, try different USB cable, different USB port.
If you have an SD card, you can also try Option 2 of the RUU post provided previously.

Ok,
1-I tried using different cable, differen port, didn't work.
2- I tried uninstalling htc sync manager( all components) and deletings HKEY entries, then install it again. Didn't work.
3- Enablng developer options ( which is already enabled), disabling it, enabling usb debugging mode (which is already enabled) disabling it. All kinds of combinations from there. Didn't work.
4- I tried usb tethering. Didn't work.
5- I tried to installing htc sync, I downloaded from internet, installing using IO File Manager app). Didn't work.
6- EDIT: I tried to uninstall and install HTC Sync on my computer while firewall is disabled. Didn't work.
Now, I need to try other method. Please explain me if I do something wrong.
"Below is the official RUU. This zip can be flashed via fastboot/RUU mode or via SD card. It is NOT rooted. This will be especially useful for users who want to relock/s-on in order to sell or return their phone. Make sure you download to this software/firmware combo using my other pre-rooted version first!!!!! Once you have your bootloader locked and tamper flag cleared you can turn s on. Then you can flash this RUU to remove any/all traces of root. This ruu will NOT wipe internal storage or data. This RUU is NOT ROOTED!
If you use fastboot/adb method i recommend using this HTC version of fastboot/adb. It's taylored specifically for our phones by HTC. "
In provided link, in first paragraph, he said these sentences. So I downloaded the link which he provided in that paragraph. File size is 480kb. I formatted my SD Card to fat32, it was fat32 before that too, I renamed file to 0P6BIMG.zip , I didn't add the second zip, and put my SD Card to phone and reboot it to bootloader using "adb reboot bootloader". However, I waited 1minute at that screen and it didn't find the file. Am I doing something wrong? Did I rename wrong file and put it in SD Card?
I downloaded the file which is greater than 1.8gb. Renamed it to 0P6BIMG.zip, booted my phone to bootlader. It recognized and formatted, now it is in progress ( Android is upgrading, optimizing app 26 of 268).
EDIT2: after format, it crashed all the time because of android.process. I resetted it to factory settings. It is good. Thank you guys for helping.

Hello again,
my phone's identity lays above. I installed https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845
, however it is not rooted.
1- How can I grant it root access?
2- It only works as LTE, when it cannot find LTE, it switches to HSPR, if it cannot find HSPR it switches to EDGE. While I was using GPE ROM, I can manually change to only Edge or Only 3g Or Only LTE. How can I enable this feature?
3- It lacks of power saver mode, only EXT Saver. Is it possible to add normal power saver?
4- Verizon does not allow me to use my phone as hot-spot, it charges me if I use it. In GPE there was no problem at all. Is it possible to fix?
If you can answer my questions, I'll be grateful

Ok, however, how can I find custom ROMs? I mean a custom ROM which works fine with my phone. You needed my phone's identity numbers to find out which ROM is developed for my phone. How can I find this with on my own?

Any of the ROMs from the Verizon specific development section should work fine: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/development
Alternately, there are some ROMs in the "general" dev section which has support for multiple variants, but you'll want to stick to ones which explicitly say they support the Verizon M8.

[Q] Factory Unlock HTC One M8 Softbrick HELP!

HI,
I just bought an unlock htc m8 no branding any where. I unlocked the bootloader and flash a custom recovery but when I tried to root the phone something went wrong because I'm stuck on the boot screen and it would not go past it. I have been looking every where how to fix it, I don't have a nandroid back up and don't know which one to look for. Is there a way to restore it back to normal? I also tried flashing a custom rom but it gets stuck in the same place.

Have you flashed a custom recovery on the device? If yes, just try to restore a nandroid back from @Mr Hofs thread and your phone will be fine
Problem is, I don't think there is any nandroid backups available for his device LRA__001. First time I've seen that CID mentioned. Going by MID doesn't help much either, I think the Verizon has the same MID. Going by the "product: m8_wlv" it also indicates Verizon. I do see that he's on AT&T on his profile though but...
Being stuck on bootloader screen for 10minutes or more won't be surprising at all if he flashed a 2.xx.xxx.x firmware based custom ROM instead of a 1.xx.xxx.x version. Need to upgrade firmware in order to do that.
You don't happen to recall what version software your device ran?
Hi, I had the 2.7 TWRP recovery but found the 2.8.0.6 works better. I was able to flash PA ROM and it is working now. Plus now is rooted and S-off and super CID.
The phone has no branding and bought from amazon as unlock from factory. But is funny you mention Verizon has similar IDs because when I plug the phone to HTC sync the first splash screen shows Verizon wireless assistant and then go to the normal HTC one.
I tried the latest HD ROM and it was force closing a lot so I think the firmware is 1.... Something. I want to upgrade but don't know which one to get. Maybe I should look on the Verizon forum, thanks for letting me know that.
I spoke with developer support at HTC and they told me they will help restore to stock and escalated the call. I will let you know if they do help.
Thanks for the replies.

Honestly if its that much of a hassle, you should stick with something safe, Change the MID and CID to a Dev Edition/Europe, to do a full convert and you wont have to worry about the LRA_001. If you do those 2 steps the the OTA will be automatic as follows.
Else just flash a custom recovery, wipe data/cache and so and restore with one of the TWRP backups posted around here and you'll be good to go :good:
Cool I will try that. I did not know that.

Don't forget though, best steps as follow, change MID, CID, restore via TWRP backup. If youre in Europe then change the MID to EUR, but the CID change it to super CID. Youve gotten past the hardest part which is the SOFF so everything is a breeze from there on out.
You won't lose your internal data if you do any of the following steps but dumping them on your SD card would be safe too.
I had an SG manufactured one, and the OTA came out pretty weird, was an unbranded one too. changed it to Dev/Unlocked MID and the super CID, downloaded the B_US002 TWRP dump thats posted here and restored that. Might want to download the OTA too aswell would save massive time after the first 159MB ota.
Awesome. Thanks!
was any one here ever able to get things working?
i am on LRA__001 and got my radio to stop working, no phone signals
contacted HTC dev and they provided me a zip, flashing that didn't help much, still no signals and can't boot into stock recovery.
seems like i've flashed the wrong hboot or something that's causing everything to be flashed on wrong partition addresses.
any help ?

The LRA version is the LRA version. there's no question there. Its based on Verizon, but its not Verizon.
Sounds like you are trying to make up solutions. What you need is LRA firmware or RUU (RUU may not exist).

i've got complete RUU from HTCDev to flash via hboot, did flash that but lost the IMEI and baseband version under settings > about, however the getvar all is still showing that information. so just trying to figure out what went wrong. either something is missing in what they have provided. or the hboot version is mismatching.
read bout the boot process and got to know that hboot reads IMEI and baseband while booting up and holds into some shared memory variables which later read by kernel.
just trying to figure out things and also looking for somebody who can provide dumps so i can try flashing them.

No I explained them my case and they asked to couple of days time and then they provided a zip file to flash via hboot. They claimed that they have prepared this file especially for me. I flashed that file. It was 5.0.1 with almost all the images.
One thing that I doubt is that the hboot is not updated since the android-info.txt says hbootpreupdate=12 and my getvar says 11 so just wondering whether it was updated or not.
Also I dumped mmcblk0p3 (board-info) and I can see my IMEI there too.
Just don't know where to nock my head

they send me the wrong files a couple of times. But they did get me the right one at the end. it seems you have the same problem I did. I still the hboot file and the system image. The hboot zip should be installed on download mode and the system image should be rename to OP6BIMG.zip and put in the sd card and re-start the phone in bootloader and let the zip install itself. It takes a long time but it worked. I have the files in my google drive I don't mind sharing it.

wi-fi not working on M8

Hello,
I want to buy a second hand HTC M8 and it has a issue with wi-fi.. it won't turn on or connect to wi-fi. from the screen shots i see that it has network (3g network). the guy selling the m8 says that a friend of his tried to put a custom rom on the phone and after that the wifi stopped working. here are the printscreens send by him. could you tell me if i can repair it myself or it is the wi-fi chip damaged.
Wifi doesn't work because the ROM is 4.4.4 but device is still 4.4.2
(can see this from the baseband version)
You can easily fix this by put in correct ROM version
can it be done without s-off? with a ruu.exe?

You better remove the 3rd pic where it shows the IMEI no. & Serial No. Those are sensitive data.
Anyway ... checked your IMEI, it is a EU version, so there is a RUU available which you can directly update it to the latest Lollipop version 4.16.401.10
thanks. will remove those pictures. i will but it tonight.
Is it for a good price due to WiFi not working? If so, the devil on my right shoulder says it serves them right for modding the phone without doing the proper research! Or researching properly to (easily) fix the problem, for that matter.
the price is ok. my old htc m7 + 100 euro

Help me to get it stock please !!
Remove serial no. in your post
I'll write simple guide on how to get back on stock and update to the latest lollipop when I'm home in next 3 - 4 hrs (if no one attend to this yet)
i see that the phone has Vodap001 CID but the soft on it (rooted one) is for the HTC_00x CID.. problem? i have got a stock backup, unzipped it, putted in TWRP backup folder, now i restore it and after that flash the stock recovery?? is that all?
It's a Vodafone UK M8, but still easy restored to stock
To be honest, I'd get it back to 1.54.161.x using the backups @ckpv5 will post, S-OFF with Sunshine and then convert it to the unbranded handset using the 4.16.401.10 RUU (using the guide in my signature)
skirmish please .. one m7 i could do it with no problem but this guy kills me
Can't write proper guide as I'm driving....
Follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59034701&postcount=4
But don't use that 3.29.161.9, you need to restore 1.54.161.10 and its recovery then proceed multiple OTA up to lollipop 4.19.161.2
You can get the needed files here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58606328&postcount=4278
Note : if you have plan to S-Off your device, do it after restore 1.54.161.10
if you want to keep it S-On, just proceed OTA. Later you can install any custom lollipop ROM if you want to

you could follow my guide on the viperone thread , steps 1 to 6 would get you onto stock android lollipop with a stock recovery , just do a full setup at step 6 , my guide proceeds past this point to then install a custom recovery and a custom rom but if you stop at step 6 after setting up the phone you will be unbranded stock
hope this helps

You flashed a rom that wouldn't work on Sprint device by default. You need proper kernel to run with this ROM but I will not go further on this.
Your best bet now is install RUU meant for Sprint.
Everything that you need is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173

Thnks for your reply sir , i was trying to do this , but now my phone cannot connect to the RUU installation wizard , How can i do it
I'm not on PC .. unable to write proper guide.
The easier one for you is download 0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_4.25.651.14_RUU.zip
then rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on your microSD, not in any folder.
On bootloader, press power once to go to hboot. Once on hboot it will scan the file and ask whether to update. Volume up to update and let it do its stuff. Once completed, reboot.
After setup complete, delete that zip file.
Before that, if you select to go to recovery, do you still have TWRP ?
If yes, boot to recovery and make backup of your internal storage as the above procedure will wipe everything on your device except microSD.
Or you can install any ROM with sprint support (like the one I'm using now) then you don't need RUU.
After completed and ROM is booting, you can install any other ROM with Sprint support.
But it's best for you to update your firmware to Marshmallow first.

You downloaded the one that I mentioned ? I made a mistake there (wrong file copied).
You need the one that have 4.25.654.14 in it, sorry.
When I said update to Marshmallow first, that's after you fixed current problem.
After you successfully installed 4.25.654.14, then do OTA to 4.25.654.18 then later to 6.20.654.3
(That's why I don't like to help when not on PC.. sometime copy wrong filename)

Having trouble flashing ROMs, possible firmware issue

I was running ARHD 45.0 with no issues today. While I had converted this phone to a GPE edition a long time ago, it was running Sense for the past couple of days and Cyanogenmod for about a year before this.
I wanted to replace the black Google image at boot up to the stock HTC one. I followed step 3 in this guide - http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/return-your-htc-one-100-stock-unroot-update-0160374/.
After I did that, the phone would no longer boot. (I realize now I installed the whole firmware file and not just the boot screen).
I installed TWRP, tried to sideload ARHD 45 and after the install went to 100%, the phone screen would go black and be unresponsive (except the phone would vibrate once when pressing the power button).
Other than this, I've tried sideloading CM 12.1, my stock ROM from my carrier, all with no luck.
I'm assuming my firmware and Model ID aren't matching with the ROM I'm trying to install? (Although I've used ARHD with the same Model ID, so most likely firmware related).
I have no idea what to try next and any help is appreciated.

Ok now i need to mention that this RUU is marshmallow
Sent from my HTC M8 using XDA Labs
I got this problem fixed and I figured I'd update just in case anyone sees this post and has the same issue.
I tried flashing the RUU that was posted in this thread and ended up with the error screen that has 4 triangles with exclamation marks in each corner. I then found this post - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66077791&postcount=2 and installed the firmware that is in this post.
After I installed the firmware, I rebooted my phone and was able to access the usual bootloader (with the options for fastboot, etc). From here I was able to flash TWRP, then I sideloaded Android Revolution HD and everything worked.

That's odd. You linked my post, which was in reference to "converting" the phone to US Developer's Version. So you are now running the US Dev Ed firmware; when it was Euro firmware before. I suppose if everything is working fine for you, you may as well leave it alone.
Also, flashing firmware is typically no necessary to run the Euro RUU (its a peculiarity to US variants).

Soft Bricked M8 in need of help badly

Hi there in need of some help. I have really ****ed up my install of twrp and supersu from my htc one m8.
I followed this person tutorial htconeroot com/htc-one-root I followed everything to the letter apart from enabling Dev enable usb debugging.
1st of all I downloaded this twrp file "openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.2-m8" when I should have downloaded the latest version of twrp. Such a noob mistake I know now : (
2nd I also downloaded a older version of supersu SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815 which I loaded onto my phone and should have downlaoded the latest version.
I followed all the instruction on the video and when I rebooted after instaling supersu my device is now stuck on the HTC startup screen.
I tried to reboot again going into fastboot and recovery and nothing worked. I know I should have just updated supersu to the latest version but I followed some other peoples advice and now I have completelty screwd my phone I think.
I deleted supersu from twrp and wiped the files as well. My computer now does not recognise my phone folder to be able to install any updated version of supersu or install a ROM. My computer OS is windows 10 and it now sees my phone as a cd drive so cannot install anything on the drive at all.
I can get into twrp but nothing seems to work when I try to reset back to factory settings.
Is there a command line way in geting back into my phone and being able to sort this mess that I have made.
In need of some serious help from the experts here at xda developers.
All help is very much appreciated.
Thanks Steve

These random "root" websites just copy content from XDA, and have little or no community to help you. All you need is on XDA, so I recommend stick to XDA.
Such "root" websites also don't give enough information, aren't well organized, and don't update it all. So they are very likely to get you into trouble, as you now know.

What version of Android was the phone on when you started? Was it Marshmallow?

There is really no such thing as "reset back to factory settings" especially in TWRP. Just going in and wiping things, isn't going to fix the problem.
Try to fastboot flash an updated version of TWRP. If you were on Marshmallow, try current version 3.1.0-0 from there: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
Once booted into TWRP, see if you can access the internal storage from your PC. If not, make sure internal storage is checked in "Mount".

Yes it was marshmallow.
I downloaded the latest version of twrp and can I ask how to re install twrp ??
I cannot access my phone internal storage for some reason my computer is not recognising my phone now. It was before as I installed supersu straight onto my phone internal storage and tried to boot the phone from that. It's now coming up as a cd drive and I cannot access to install anything on it.
In mount all I have
System >>> not checked
cache >>> not checked
Data >>> is checked
Micro SDcard >> is checked
USB-OTG >>> not checked
Thanks again for your help

Flash with fastboot. Which I would assume is the same way you did it before. Instructions on TWRP's website: https://twrp.me/devices/htconem8gsm.html

Hi just to let you know that I have booted into the new twrp. I am using FWUL and using simple-ADB and it installed it no problem.

You must have at some point in trying to "fix" the problem, wiped system in TWRP. System is same as ROM/OS. So if you wiped it, it's pretty obvious that no ROM is the result.
Flashing old SuperSU in itself doesn't result in no ROM/no OS. It just makes the phone stuck on boot screen, and flashing the proper SuperSU will fix it.

I've never used it. But reading the thread, it looks like you need a fully working OS. So pick a ROM, put it on the phone, and flash it. Then flash Kali Nethunter.

Ah, I see it's listed as one of the several options for adb/fastboot in the TWRP install instructions. I've never used that specific one, so the acronym confused me. Any fastboot/adb environment will work about the same. You didn't really need to install anything new on your computer. You already had fastboot on your computer to begin with (to unlock the bootloader), and that would have worked fine to install TWRP.
BackUp File
Hi there and thanks very much for your help very much appreciated. Before I did everything I made a back up and have the files on my desktop they are:

I have ten of these files and a deafault file as well. Can I restore these to my hpne at all.
I am going to try and install marshmallow on my phone as that was the last OS that I had. Do I have to have the most current and updated version MM.

What did you use to "backup" the phone? Those don't look like TWRP backup folder names. They look like MD5 verification codes?
Individual TWRP backup folders will usually have name format of the date/time the backup was made, such as: 2017-04-22-20-43-56....

There weren't many different official versions (maybe 1 or 2) of Marshmallow for each M8 carrier version. Any version MM should do.
