Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.1
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But CM and all the others have..
A: ROM developers, including CM, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-M.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
Factory Reset from TWRP
Flash ROM and GApps .ZIP files
Reboot

"err on the side of kindness"

Love the build, experiencing an issue
MY PHONE
Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M
-WEEKLY BUILD 2017-01-07
I dont know what else you would require from me but if you need anything just let me know.
I'm on vacation so i'm on airplane mode, I cant verify sim related services but so far this has been the negative experiences.
Compass, for the life of me, no matter how many figure 8's i pull i cant get the compass to align with my position. the compass is usually 90 or 180 degrees opposite to me, its like the poles have been flipped, must be the new pole shift I've been hearing about.
WIFI, it is not stable, I'm literally right beside or in the same room as my router, all other devices get signal, and work proper but my experience has been iffy. The phone's wifi meter indicates that I have signal but nothing happens. Sometimes it gives me intermittent connection even though i have full signal.
* UPDATE* I JUST checked and noticed a new weekly build release, i will install that over the evening and try it out and see if the problems persist.

Update after the update
I did a full wipe of my phone minus sim using TWRP and did a fresh install of 2017-01-13. I also installed open GAPPS 7.1 "MINI".
I experienced one error which only occurred after i changed the display size to smallest and that was a crash of the settings app which hasn't occurred again.
WiFi has been better but I've only been using this release for an hour.
One thing which i forgot to check with the release prior to this one was the headphone jack error. I don't have that issue with this one.
I don't know if this is an old issue but some mentioned a camera issue with the CM ROM, i never experienced that here with your ROM, both front and back work.

Guys, this thread was a mistake by the OP if you have jflteatt you should go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3532663
If you have d2att you should go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=70407988
Sorry for the mixup we'll have a mod lock & close this thread. Thanks for understanding!

Great rom. I can't believe my old S3 is running Nougat. I gave it to my mom so she could get a taste of smart phones. She's almost 70.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 6 (Marshmallow)?
A: Yes, this is Android 6.0.1
Q: What code is Oct-M based on?
A: Starting with Oct-L, we've rebased OctOs on CyanogenMod 12.1 code. Oct-M is based on CyanogenMod 13 code.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: All Android code is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Under previous releases, we tried very hard to limit the number of "Not from Google directly" repositories that we used. Unfortunately, issues with devices, the need for Code Aurora Foundation (CAF) repositories for Qualcomm devices, and compatibility issues meant fighting code more often than not. We decided that since the code-base for many repositories were the same across most ROMs, picking a starting point to build the user experience on outweighed the desire to craft code from scratch, or fix broken code to make it work with other changes we already had.
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But XYZ and all the others have..
A: ROM developers build something they want to use.

Hey, mind posting some screenshots? Oh and, is in this rom fixed the issue with "mobile radio active"? When apps like Chrome would keep mobile radio active for hours and hours if you dont force close them.
Will f2fs on cache and data work AS it does on stock cm12

Screenshots are located in the Screenshot area. If your using the XDA Mobile App, you may want to request they update it. For now, you can try this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=8277#screenshots
As for batt life and mobile radio, You'd have to ask @Me Gusta, as he is one of the primary testers., but I've not seen it on my jfltespr build (I'm Sprint)

We use the CM12 device repositories, and then alter them after the fact. Anything in there will still apply.

No. SaberMOD is now closed source, and the prebuilt toolchain causes issues with missing A5 libraries (libatomic.a in particular). While we still have the ability to build our own toolchain from SaberMod (grandfathered), we would be unable to post it or have others who wish to build Oct-L locally use it. Because of this, we have dropped plans on using SaberMOD's toolchains.
Just throwing this out there!
Oh, and battery life is good! I get through a day with ease and 3 hrs of screen on time.

Just downloaded, Havent flashed yet but look like a nice clean stable rom. cant wait to reflash!
Battery Life ?
How's The Battery Life? Better Than CM ? =S I really have a problem with Battery Life On Any Android Lollipop Rom
I'm on day 1 of running the ROM...good and stable so far with good battery life...takes a day or 2 to really see what the battery life will be...give it a flash and let it settle in...you should be happy with battery life
Great rom guys keep it up!
This rom is awesome! It's very stable and fast!
The only thing that is annoying is the battery drain, but I love this rom
The battery does seem to drain really fast, but its being worked on ad far ad I know
Testing
Albeit a work in progress, after playing with this rom I can agree with the disclaimer is suitable for daily use. Cleared all data on my phone, began with a clean slate and used PA minimal gapps and it works fine. Altered the dsp from AudioFx to LolliViper and so far it's very good. Keep up the good work, being a Resurrection Remix addict this rom opens me up for something different.
Its a damn fine ROM...only issue I have is battery...but that's being looked in to

Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

You skipped some of the permissions and that's why it's not saving, if that's the problem and not just question
Best of lucks with the ROM. Being AOSP based are always good news. I hope you can build a OTA updater and get a nice ROM, Oct-M was good even being a new ROM.
Stock camera and Google camera video recording problem remains. Fickering and Green lines.... Damn
Reboot to recovery from power menu only rebooting for me. Now on tap and~or assistant is not available. For on tap/assistant I just had to set all permissions.

On 3.0.2 it is working now. I don't know what happened the first couple times but all is good now.
Usually when you long press the settings icon in the notification tray, it brings you to more settings options. How do you get to that in this ROM? I need the more detailed notification options. Thank you and this ROM rocks!

Bug possibly. Possibly just my setup. Can anyone confirm if USB OTG keeps remounting? Edit..... Only something weird with stick mount.

Guys please dont flash firmware it's already there and flashed while rom is being flashed.
The rom has been compiled with uber toolchains.
For root do remember after booting once into the rom you need to flash super su to gain root access.
Rest everything is working smooth, hope you enjoy the new OctOS for MI 5.

No nothing needs to be installed just flash the rom and the gapps and reboot to recovery and flash supersu that's what all you need to do. Do not flash firmware again it's already included with the rom.

Should they be recommending SuperSU anymore? It's closed source and under some company now. Why not the Lineage su add-on or phh superuser? I hope they change it.
I'm currently using this now and I'm quite impressed. Its smooth if there are no activities happening. Although just me I guess. By the way, what's your preferred FS for your ROM sir? Ext4 or F2fs?
Edit: Just a heads up here. 89% on 1hr of nothing but social media while on LTE ? What sort of black magic is this? ? Good job!!
