Applying beta update to rooted Nexus 5x. - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have only one question - how do I update my system version to new beta one (I'm participating in this program) if my phone is rooted? I tried using FlashFire, but it's not detecting my OTA Update File (I don't really know where I should search too). Last time I did it by flashing system image via this nice tool, but this time I can't even find this version of Android on Google site. How am I supposed to get FlashFire back to work?
Thanks for answers.

Anyone?

I don't think there is a beta since 7.1.1 was pushed

[Q] How to upgrade from JWR66N to JWR66Y?

Hello,
I have a question about installing OTA updates manually on my S4. I've been searching the net for hours now, but haven't found an answer that makes sense to me so I decided to ask here. First some background...
I got the S4 exactly a month ago today. I was going to wait for the Nexus 5, but when I found out that I could load the 4.3 Google Edition rom on the phone and have the stock GE experience I decided to pull the trigger on it. The day I got the phone I installed 4.3 JWR66N and have loved it. I was hoping that I'd be able to get OTA updates automatically using the stock ROM, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I found out today that I'm a couple versions behind already (JWR66V & JWR66Y).
My question is, is it possible to apply the OTA updates manually to my phone? I found a link to the JWR66Y update for the S4 and tried to install it from CWM recovery, but it failed.
I've installed a few roms on S2 and S4 now, but not sure how to handle the smaller OTA updates. In this case it was 17.4MB. Is it possible to keep my phone up-to-date with the latest OTA versions? If so, how? Thanks!

I ended up flashing a ROM (4.3 JWR66Y.S003.130805) posted by janjan here on xda. It's been on my phone since Saturday and has been great so far. Thanks janjan!
It would still be nice to be able to just install the updates (JWR66V to JWR66Y for example) instead of flashing the entire OS to get it, but I'll take what I can get. I basically have a GE S4 with the latest stable android version and love it.

Is it safe to flash a 6.0.1 full OTA after using a 7.1 developer preview?

I enrolled in the android beta program 2 days ago and I've had some issues so I want to go back to the stable ROM, I can wait a week more for the final version. I went to the site and unenrolled my phone but it's been 6 hours and I don't have the revert OTA yet so I decided to flash it myself from https://developers.google.com/android/ota. I was just worried if it would be a bad idea to flash the old ROM on top of the new one (I'd do a data wipe obviously). I have MTC20K downloaded and ready to install (that's the latest one right?)

don't flash OTA file it will most likely keeps crashing and won't be stable. Flash full image which will wipe everything of course.
Ok, thanks. I'm a little confused now because I have had this phone for a week and I took the developer preview because I was on marshmallow and didn't have any OTA available although I was pretty sure nougat was out already, and now I see that the Android 7 rooms on Google's site are 7.0 and the device preview on my phone is 7.1.1,so is 7.0 the latest stable release, or is it 6.0.1?

Bootloader locked? Sign up here and you'll get the ota https://www.google.com/android/beta
If bootloader is unlocked, download the image from here, extract and run the script. Make sure latest Google platform tools are installed.

or simply sideload the OTA file.

Flash stock software update through TWRP?

First of all this phone belongs to my dad. This means I haven't used it and I'm not familiar with many things about it.
The phone is running a stock ROM. It is not rooted, but it does have TWRP.
A software update prompt popped up trying to install "v20p-apr-03-2018" (why is an update for the G4 called v20 lol).
Telling it NOT to download it and NOT check for updates ever doesn't work. The update prompt comes back in 2 days tops. So **** you LG.
Since it's not rooted the easiest option seems to be to flash the update, however it just launches TWRP and does nothing. I found no way to actually download the update and keep it on the device so that I can manually tell TWRP to flash it.
So: Is there a way to download said update and flash it through TWRP? Or should I root it and delete the stupid update tool? I really don't want to flash a stock recovery.

Freeze or uninstall Software Update (LG proprietary, i.e., closed source, app) - may require root. That should stop the annoying requests. If you are able to upgrade you will lose TWRP and will have to re-flash TWRP again. You may want to consider that you do not have the latest Google security patches by not doing the update, putting your Dad's phone more at risk.

It's not like LG updates security patches that often so it's not that big of a deal if I can't update it.
It's also fine if I lose TWRP during the process, I just want to avoid flashing stock recovery just for the sake of updating it.
And I still can't download the update and keep it. I don't know where it puts the update after downloading it. I couldn't find it in TWRP.

It helps if you include your phone model when looking for specific firmware updates.
If you're Dad's phone is an H815, there are some v20p downloads available here: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h815-firmwares/firmwares/
In order to flash in TWRP without losing TWRP, you would have to remove the stock recovery and create a flashable zip ...
Easiest is to simply freeze or remove the lg Software Update app as I indicated - the annoying update notification should then disappear ...
Note: XDA courtesy is to hit the Thanks button (bottom right of post), when members are trying to help and solve your issues. As a Senior Member you know this.
This update does not contain any security fixes it's just for the new European data protection law..
First thing you should try is:
Upgrade TWRP.
Do a full TWRP backup!
Test android update again.
Second thing:
Have you tried the LG bridge windows software to update?
If so and it fails there too you can find the update when you try to Flash it within the LG folder of your Windows PC afterwards use this KDZ file and lgup to flash it.
There is a chance that when using the internal updater that you can find the update file when in TWRP in /cache in a folder fota but it will likely be in a LG specific format so may don't help you much.
Third thing :
Disable the LG updater within TWRP (search for a howto)

Updating the app won't get you oreo
Updates are pushed out in regions - they are geo restricted & also based on your current firmware
If you really want oreo the firmware from india/Brazil has been posted - just flash it via fastboot or just wait until they push it to your country & firmware version
Hey I was wondering, my wife just got her OTA notification for oreo and we have identical g5's cedric. I wanted to try to capture it on my phone so I restored to 137-93-14 and checked for updates.. It doesn't detect the ota.. Is it possible that having an unlocked bootloader and root prevents me from receiving it? I think I read somewhere that unlocked phones have it last. My wife's phone is totally stock untouched.
The reason I wanted to capture it even though the ota is everywhere on XDA is that I tried the twrp flashable oreo on my device and it didn't work. Which made me wonder if our update has something different than other phones (probably not) cause it seems that I'm the only one on the twrp oreo thread that hasn't been able to flash that update.
Btw I know I can't install official ota with my modified system I wasn't going to try it
