I'm a longtime Note 2 user. I love this phone. But cameras have advanced so much since its release, I'm considering a newer Note for sharper photos of indoor activity or low-light settings. I'm curious whether the Note 3's enough of a hardware upgrade or if I should spend the extra and get a Note 4.
Obviously Note 7 would have the best camera, but we know that's not an option. Note 5 would be next-best, but I like removable batteries and expandable storage. So, Note 3 or 4.
I can look at comparison videos all day, but it's different with custom ROMs. Can someone share their experiences with a Note 3 camera coming from a Note 2, or for a Note 4 coming from a Note 3?
Is the Note 3 getting too old?
Also, is the Note 3 the only model with an IR blaster? Or just the first?
Any other notable differences?
I don't much mind screen ppi or nits. Mainly looking for everyday-user differences like camera quality, unique features on each model, or anything else you consider important when deciding which to get if I'm coming from a Note 2. Thanks for any answers!
Hi there,
There are threads already established that are devoted to discussions about devices, please read, and if necessary, repost your question in one of these threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
There are also several other discussion threads that you probably should review to help you. They are What phone do you wish you had? or

I will have to close this one. Thanks for understanding.

Hi! I am thinking about getting a Note 2 however as I come from a Galaxy Nexus I am quite interested in flashing roms. I know that a Note wont have the developer support of the Nexus 4 but I was wondering whether it would be as good as the development going on in the S3 forum. I noticed there aren't many roms available and I was wondering whether this was because the device is still quite new or if it will remain the same in the future.
Thanks
reploym 101
Note 2 uses almost the same hardware as S3 –from a developer perspective there will be no difference between these two devices. Note2 was released just two months ago, S3 – six months, so it just a matter of time before more ROMs will be developed.
Hello
I'm kind of in the market to buy a new smartphone, but i would not have any problems waiting if something where soon to be out.
So my question is, should i get the Galaxy note II now or wait for the Galaxy Note III?
Any concrete rumors about the Note III, or any rumors about a release date? Is it going to be fall before we see a new note?
Oh and one last question does the Note II support USB OTG?
Thanks

Don't expect the Note 3 to be released until Q4 2013. The Note 2 does support USB OTG.
I would recommend you buy the Note 2 now unless your current phone is less than 1.5 years old.
Note 2 its just a key to the technology the best smartphone on the market.

There is no assured information on the Note III, all we can say for sure is that Samsung will try to make the Note III much better than the note II. If you're in a hurry to get a phone I'll highly recommend getting the Note II. That's the best phone I've ever used and I've used quite a few including the Galaxy S III.
Yes the Note II has USG OTG
I currently own a Note II and and like it very much. If the Note III turns out to be much better than the note II in certain ways, I'll be getting the Note III too.
Here are some features that are expected to be improved in the Note III.
1. Better resolution screen, maybe 1080P
2. Better camera, maybe 13MP
3. Better and faster processor, likely the Exynos octa
4. Hopefully they make a 64GB and 128GB internal storage options available.
5. I'm also hoping they will redesign it and make it look more premium
6. Expect updates in the software department with a lot of improvement on the current features and addition of new features
7. Hopefully much better batter life (the Note II currently has the best battery life of any smartphone I know of except the Razr Maxx)
As to when it will be released, not one really knows for now. I imagine if not delays ensue, it should be released any time from the 2nd to the 3rd quarter of this year.
If you play the "wait for the next model" game, you will never buy a new phone.
Get the Note 2.. You will not be disappointed..
The note 2 is one of the best devices you can get right now in terms of screen size, CPU/GPU speeds, Innovative and usefull features an functions like the Spen and its apps..
Get the Note 2 now and sell it when the Note 3 is released that's if its worth upgrading when the Note3 comes out < Thats what I'm going to do... Plus high end Samsung devices hold there price well

This and also, I've read somewhere (sadly don't remember where) that there wouldn't be much differences between the note 2 and 3, slightly larger screen size and a few minor improvements but nothing big really. At least nothing that will render your note 2 obsolete.
Two rumoured release dates for killer Note III
I’ve read two lines of rumours for the Note III release date: one would be the expected release time about 12 months or less after the release of the Note II. The release date is likely to be announced at the Berlin IFA in September.
The other line of rumour, which I even read late in 2012 is that Samsung was pushing the Note III release date early in 2013. IBTimes.com has this to say today “Samsung recently tweeted that the Galaxy Note 3 official release date will occur during the annual Mobile World Congress this February 24 through 28 in Barcelona, Spain.”
I would wait until that event is over to make your decision. I am (and S IV memory size as a predictor).
I’m personally waiting for a 64 Gb or 128 Gb internal memory model. If the Note II had that, I would have bought it already. If the Note III still doesn’t have decent memory, I’ll may buy a cheap 6’’ quad core Chinese knockoff for around $250 and wait for the Note IV. I’ve read sad rumours that Samsung is going to stick to the current 16 Gb or 32 Gb memory sizes for the S IV and Note III. This is surprising because Samsung produced new 64 Gb and 128 Gb chips late last year. (I’ve read the 64 Gb Note II sold briefly in Korea had technical problems, it didn’t sell well too for poor Koreans).
The Note III is rumoured to have a 6.3’’ screen, two quad cores for performance & considerable battery saving, and a bigger battery anyhow. Samsung also have stated the S IV and Note III will have the best camera ever on a phone. It’s a big chunk, that wasn’t ready for the S III and Note II. The Note III will be a killer – if it has big memory. Yes it will be worth waiting for.
Wait if you not in a hurry. Else get Note 2 now.
Same here, buy now---think later.

It all depends on whether you can hold on to a device even after a new and better version of it comes out. If you really like the Note 2 just get it. The Note 3 will be amazing mostly... and all of us will be tempted but not all of us can shift devices. Technology is so advanced when the Note 3 comes out, and after 3-4 months of using it, there will be rumors of a Note 4 or maybe even better.
Personally I am going to stick with the Note 2 for a very long time. The perfect device at the moment - for my needs atleast.

Bought note 2 two months ago and I never looked back since then. Best buy I made so far regarding cell phones. I'd suggest u buy something when u need it. Postponing purchase based on whats coming wont make u happy really for in the end of the day even if note 3 comes out tomorrow u will still argue with urself if u should wait for the next note 4 and so on. And again u will know that all u have will be maybe less than 8 to 12 months before the even newer model comes out. Meantime while u will be in anguish of what to do and when to buy, which model, those of us who are lucky enough to have this brilliant smartphone will be happy owners and feel joy with our device.
Best regards.

Every day you wait arguing with yourself whether to get it or wait, you are losing its novelty. Get the Note 2, and use it enjoy it and you can even wait for the Note 3 while you're at it.

Is it safe to assume that Samsung will continue to improve battery life on the note 3?

It is my assumption and understanding that mobile phone manufacturers always try to increase battery life based on the current technology available.

As has been re iterated over and over in many posts in this forum, There is NO NOTE 8.4 PRO as of this writing.
it's likely the 8.4 tab pro you talking about.
I am so tired of people calling the new Tab a "Note". It is NOT a Note. It does NOT support S-Pen. It is just a Tab.
Yeah true... But.

Your right but the features from that tab can definitely be ported though to work with our note 8's like magazine ux...

Yeah, it seems that the tab is all peeps know about. Big difference... as for apps, it seems that there will be some apps ported as time goes. It is a bit early, but I think we'll see some by July. Though I am sure they will require 4.3 at least.
Good idea for a Port !!!
Btw, don't forget Note 8 does support ONLY Android 4.2.2 !!!
Note 2 support 4.3 at least and Great Devs from "Electronics Team" was able to make a 4.4.2 Port from Note 3 to Note 2 !!!
One more thing is about porting a Tab features to a Note !!! Basically, this should be a bit tricky, If you own a Tab 3 8.0 maybe you will be lucky.
And finally HARDWARE COMPATIBILITY, Tab 8.4 hardware are different from Note 8 ones. The screen resolution is much more bigger than the Note 8 one (2560x1600 vs 1280x720 I think) So making a port will be REALLY HARD.
But, Just wait and see !!! Since the Tab 8.4 is still NOT available here (Morocco).
One thing is certain: Magazine UX can be ported (like Samsung TouchWizz 5 and 6) to many devices.

No, Not the same thing. and though to you it's just a pen, there's a whole lot going behind the scenes, as well as UI/UX considerations bound to it.
A Port if any will have to be from a Note Family Device, and unless those (firmware updates etc) are released by Samsung chances are bleak.
I think you just like talking or are you trying to make something happen for the note 8 if not keep your dumb ass remarks to yourself
Hello!
So my wife has the Note 4 but it is pretty old by now and feels laggy. Unfortunately every new phone has this aspect ratio we both hate 18:9 aside from the Huawei Mate 10 and the the Note FE. Finding the FE seems hard with US warranty and the Mate 10 does not have an OLED screen which she loves. So...as she finds the Note 8 way too long with that hotdog shape...I started thinking the 5t even though is the same aspect ratio, being smaller might be a good alternative. The Mate 10 Pro is also on my short list.
Still, I am leaning towards the 5T the more I read about it. What you guys feel about it after using it for a while? How is Oreo doing on it? Please note that the phone will be completely stock as unlike me, my wife does not want ANY modifications to the stock roms lol
Is battery life really good? From the reviews I read I like that the UI seems very fast and smooth.
Anyways, anything you want to share (and if you came from a Note 4 even better). She does not really use the s-pen so she is fine losing that feature.
Thanks!
I came from Note 4 to OP5T and I love it.

I am guessing the camera is better too?
I am reading a lot of complaints of the 5T camera being worst than the 5 and from samples, it seems like that indeed. I even started considering the Mate 10 Pro now because of that and also the Pixel 2 XL (but with so many burn in issues probably not).
Thanks!
I had different phones, the Xiaomi redmi note 4 lg g6, oneplus 5, s8, and the s8 plus. But I am going to buy to the Xiaomi redmi note 5 pro excellent price performance. The Samsung s8 is also very good if u don't want to flash roms. Easy to setup and system wide ad blocker and almost every month security updates and a very nice screen.
I said go for the s8 the new Samsung experience is very good and many times better than the old touchwiz and a very good battery live and performance.
Hello everyone,
I wanna hear what your thoughts about the Note 8 Pro vs Note 8.
Do you have any regrets when it comes to buying the Pro? I see that on paper it is much better than the Note 8 however, there doesn't seem to be a lot of custom roms/kernels for it and there is also a bricking issue with the MTK processor.. What are your thoughts and opinions on this? Would you exchange your Note 8 Pro for a Normal variant if you could? Do you have any regrets? Are new custom roms coming in the future? What do you think?
Thank you for your responses.

the processor in Rn8 is alright not as fast compared to MTK in RN8p (i do alot of multi tasking etc)
I reluctantly bought the RN8p because the only variant in RN8 available was 4/128 - needed that extra ram
i neither game nor am much into photography so can't comment there.
Have it rooted and finally setup nearly to my liking, but MTK does suffer from availability of roms and the bricking issues - waiting for RN9p, will move to it if the reviews turn out +ve
Note 8 < Note 8 Pro
Because better processor. Better performance for the price. Also custom roms aren't as rare as some people would have you believe. We have 5 ROMs in testing phase at the moment. And it's just a matter of just one of them having a breakthrough in terms of fixing some known issues. Then we can possibly run any custom rom we want in this phone.
if you are planning to use as a normal user and not planning to mod and install ROMs then RN8P is the way to go if you plan to do mod and flash rom and stuff then other phones might have better dev support.
