I bought the latest Kindle Fire 8" for my kids for Christmas and one of the things I wanted to do was load Youtube Kids onto it. I've successfully done that and have it working fine on the Kindle, but when I try to add the YT Kids app to their Freetime area it isn't being shown. I assume this is because I installed it through the Google Play store instead of Amazon's own App Store.
Does anyone know how I can get YT Kids to display in Freetime? I would like to make it available to my kids without backing out of Freetime.

I bought a few Kindle Fire games through Amazon.com without actually owning a Kindle Fire, thinking that I could somehow install them to any old Android device. I'm curious if I'd be able to install and play those games on the Fire TV, or does Amazon restrict it to apps and games made specifically for the Fire TV? Does rooting and the ability to side load change any of this? I suppose I'd still need to somehow install the Amazon Fire apps through the Amazon App Store. Thanks for any help.

It should work. The apps normally will install on any device you have installed the app store on. If they don't show up in your purchased/downloaded app list you may have to sideload them.
I found out, of the amazing power of XBMC and I found out it's been ported to multiple platforms such as Android, OUYA and recently the Fire TV. I want a box that I can use XBMC on my TV to use apps for streaming like (identities of apps have been changed) SmashDown, FireFilms,MovieY2K, SportsDemon (LIVE Streaming) and that one that has XBMC in the name that you can use for torrents and more.
My question is...if I want to use this box for internet streaming and such..which would be the best?
IF I bought a Fire TV? would it come with the unrootable update? (I don't want a Fire TV if I can't root it) what's your thoughts about XBMC on OUYA? At Least I wouldn't have any issues blocking update servers on my router as OUYA doesn't mind rooting....right..?
Which one would be more powerful in streaming? or are they equally matched?
any feedback would be appreciated
go for fire tv. I have switched from a cheap chinese android tv stick and the difference is huge. i mainly use xbmc for streaming tv shows and movies and it runs beautifully.
you can find all the information about rooting here http://www.aftvnews.com/tag/guide/
read through and make sure you are comfortable with the procedure before purchasing fire tv.
Go Fire TV!
A rooted Fire TV with a dedicated XBMC/Kodi Launcher with access to the KFTV Launcher and Amazon content is an outright beast. I could not be happier with the Fire TV after ditching that antiquated Roku platform.
Hmm... Well would it come out of the box if I bought one now with the unrootable update?.. Is it that hard to block update servers?
Not getting a response from the OUYA community so it's looking like a fire TV (if I can root it)

Grab a Fire TV from either Amazon, Best Buy or Staples and give it a try following the AFTVnews guide regarding root and blocking the update. Nothing to lose except time as you are free to return it within 30 days.
It seems that a war of android boxes is coming soon! I bought an Amazon Fire TV and I'm very happy with it.
Android TV shall be available soon this year and also there is another device

I believe that we shall be many flavors later on to choose, but to tell you the truth? I'd go with something very related to Google that is Android TV, They always have the best support, also shall come with Android L OS
As an owner of BOTH, I can tell you the AFTV is a b_tch to deal with (not that Ouya is friendly by any means, but nowhere near AFTV). Incompatible apps, kooky app install procedure, draconian checks for apps by Amazon so I can't even install the YouTube for AFTV (which I OWN), etc.
For me the deciding factor was Netflix HD with DD+...if that is not your thing or you don't have Prime, go for Ouya and save some money and hassle in the process.
Hope this helps.
For what it's worth, I just ordered a fire tv from amazon last thursday that came with the original firmware....

Uhm... I plan to just use it with rooted XBMC / kodi launcher to stream videos from different live streaming add-ons... How about that?

Ouya removed alt-launchers support a few updates back.
You can fix this by renaming the ouyalauncher.apk/odex files to .old(or remove the files all together), then installing a version of the ouyalauncher.apk that still supports alt-launchers. I.E. the ouyalauncher.apk from an older update.
It's a bit of a hassle.

**** move for a struggling console. It's looking more like a fire TV for me. I'm scared of by the time I get one it's going to be bundled with the unrootable update

Just got rid of my ouya and replaced it with fire tv. Love it.
I have the Fire TV Stick all set up and awesome-ized. I have one issue though. There are a few Fire TV apps that I would love to have for the stick, but without access to a Fire TV, I can't migrate them over. One app inparticular, Minecraft PE, is a must have. I have the app from Google Play, but it doesn't have remote functionality like the Fire TV version does. I can easily purchase the app through amazon on my computer, but have no way to access it without a "compatible" device. How can I get access to Fire TV apps I've purchased, without having one? Stupid Amazon should just make it compatible with the stick, as it obviously works on it. Ugg

Unfortunately, there's no way to download an APK from Amazon even if you purchased the app.

Ugg. My son's world is Minecraft right now, and it would be great to have the remote enabled version on the Fire TV Stick. Know of a way to request getting it added as compatible for the Stick?
Interesting. I just pulled an update to 0.10.0 from Google Play and it works with the controller now. All is well with the world now. Haha

Actually you can if you create an Android VM in VirtualBox, sideload the Amazon app store, purchase the app from the store and backup the APK with ES File Manager.
I use BlueStacks (rooted version) on my Windows 8.1 laptop. Installed the Amazon apk and that device shows up under Amazon as a generic Android device. Exactly as the previous poster (install, backup using ES, sideload the apk on FTV), except I use BlueStacks.
When I launch the Twitch app on my Amazon Fire TV Stick it's the old, super bare-bones version of the app, but when I look under the overview page the pictures are of a newer more shiny version of the app with more features. I guess the Fire TV Stick is stuck with the old version, possibly due to it's spec limitations. I really want the new apk so I can install it on my Nexus Player and my Fire TV stick, but I can't find the apk anywhere online. Could someone please install it on their Fire TV and rip the apk here for me. I would really appreciate it.

So I bought some apps on my FireTV Stick, for example, "The Game of Life" for like $4.99. Worked great on the FireTV Stick. I ended up getting a couple of Nexus Players and sold my FireTV Sticks. Now when I go to the Amazon App Store to download that title, for example, it does NOT show up. It does show up on other devices, for example my daughter's Fire Phone that I bought her, and I can transfer that from her phone to my Nexus Player, but the controls are NOT the same. It's not the one that was optimized for a remote control. I PAID FOR THE GAME, why can I NOT download it from Amazon's App store just because I'm not running a FireTV Stick!? Is there any way I can make Amazon think I'm trying to download from the FireTV Stick so I can get that app, and a few others I bought as well? This is NOT a request about WAREZ or PIRATING! I bought these apps, I should be able to download them Any help is greatly appreciated!!!! I know that there have been mods for the Google Play store for certain hidden apps to show up, so I'm wondering if there is something like that available for the Amazon App Store... a build prop edit or something? I'm extremely frustrated about this. Thanks again for any help!!!
Download the app on another device compatible with your purchase and then side load it to your device of choice.

Yeah, I did that, with my daughter's Fire Phone, but it is NOT the same one that gets downloaded when using the Fire TV Stick because that one does not respond to a controller...

Yeah, side loading can be touch and go but it helps given the limited options Amazon gives us. I spend most of this week trying to side load my game collection. I need a Directory Bind very badly because my internal storage is almost gone
