Built-in flash light app from Moto - Droid Turbo 2 General

Not sure if I'm posting in the right place, sorry if it's not.
Okay so, doesn't matter if the phone in this case the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 from big Red is on or the screen is off. Holding either volume up or down and shaking the phone side to side, activates the back flash [emoji3] . Same motion deactivates it. How cool. Don't know if this was known before to people, same thing may work with other Motorola models not sure only have this one.
Hope this helps and enjoy.

I think you are just activating the Chop Twice function of Moto Actions. Has nothing to do with volume button.

Yeah, called chop chop.
Works on most Moto phones.

Ah so people do know about it. Cool. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

Twist the phone twice to activate the camera. You can find the options to enable/disable in the Moto app.

Yeah the camera one I know.

[Q] simple incredible/Verizon question

Hey there XDA, I'm selling a friends incredible for him on eBay and have a quick question. He did a factory reset so the phone needs to be set up again, if I hit "activate" on the initial set up when the only options are activate or emergency call, will it attempt to find a Verizon plan or.will it simply register on the network and say it has no service?
I want to be able to take shots of the rom so nobody thinks its broken, but can I go past activate and just use the phone on a wifi connection? Without cell service, of course.
Thanks

I don't know if it works on the incredible but on the d2 you can tap each corner of the screen, starting with the upper left, to bypass the activation screen.

I ended up finding the solution. Taping on the screen corners did not work, but after hitting activate, letting the call connect, and rebooting 3 times it went past the activation screen and let me use the phone, I also toggled the mobile network selection in the power menu but I'm not sure that mattered

Yeah I thought it might be just a moto thing. Glad you got it working.

Just for reference, the corner taps worked for the HTC Droid Eris also.
Works on the DINC also.

[Q] I have a few questions about my new Optimus G Pro

I recently upgraded to the LG Optimus G Pro and I love it and all, but while I'm at work when I get messages, my phone does all sorts of crazy things in my pocket because the screen comes on. I was wondering if there was a setting that I was looking over that would stop it from doing that? I'm trying not to root it because I know the bare minimum about rooting phones, but I did root my Galaxy s2 Skyrocket with youtube tutorials.

What things is it doing? I have the flip case and that keeps it from coming on and such. I think there is a pocket mode in the setting(I could be wrong about this though) check in display section or even under notifications.

Or go into the offending app that's causing you trouble and turn notifications off.

I think there are a few others who have complained about this as well. I don't have a texting plan (I use Google Voice), so I haven't ever experienced this. However, if there aren't any options in the phone settings, there may be another way.
I seem to be on this Tasker kick lately, so when someone has a problem that is related to the phone sensors or events, I tend to think "how can I fix this with Tasker?!" . As a result, I have made an app really quick using Tasker and have even included the project XML if you want to fiddle with it on your own. It does NOT require root. However, it will need you to install another free app called "Secure Settings" and give it administrator rights in your phone settings. All that the app does is wait for an incoming message and checks to see if the proximity sensor detects something in front of it. If it does, it turns the screen off. However, like I said, I don't have a texting plan, so I haven't had a chance to really test it. The app interface is just an "ON/OFF" button and a "Close" button. If it doesn't work, just turn it off or uninstall it. It is set to "OFF" when it is first installed.
Alternatively, you can play around with it if you get Tasker. I think there is still a trial period you can get if you aren't sure if you want to buy it. Let me know if it works or if you have any other questions.
I named the xml file as a .zip just to upload to xda. Just rename the file without the ".zip" at the end and then you can edit and/or import to Tasker.

This is easily fixed, just change the lockscreen to anything other than swipe and the phone will no longer accidentally become unlocked in your pocket

Uhh I had an unlock pattern set and the phone pocket dialed the police twice while I was at work cause it came on... did this work for u? I'm still looking for a fix for this lol

Had the same issue. Do a search for it. Lots of threads. Maybe try Magiclocker or Widgetlocker instead of the LG home screen.

Use pin lock. Solved for me.

Okay I just realised that there is an emergency call button on the screen when you have either pin, password or pattern unlock set. If you just have swipe, there is no emergency call button. Maybe this will help?

Volume down and power button at the time and hold them.

[Q] Always on voice feature like Moto X?

I have to be honest, I am fairly jealous of the Moto X's always on voice feature. Any news about a port to the One...or any recommendations on third party software that can do this? Thanks.
You can somewhat do it with tasker

This is my fear.
On this topic, under Google Now there is a setting called Hotword Detection. From the description is sounds like what the MotoX does, listening all the time for a voice command. What does this setting actually do?

Exactly. The MotoX has a special low power chip dedicated to this sleep-mode 'listening.' I doubt we will get a similar solution that doesn't kill the battery.

Considering its a separate chip its a hardware issues... Plus the main reason that the notification system works the way it does is because amoled screens can light up only a small portion of the screen thus not killing the battery life. I agree the feature rocks. I thought about a moto x. Specs are meaningless if the software works well. Everybody I've talked to about one loves it. Great phone not to be overlooked. I'd rather own one of those than an s4 any day.

When you open Google Now, you can simply say "Google" to initiate voice search. Saves you an additional button press.

kill your battery by never letting your phone sleep. Also it opens google now by saying google. Or you can long press the home button/ slide up from the home button (depending on your settings) to open it.
I agree the moto x has some cool features, but I'm disappointed moto went to plastic and away from the kevlar.

Si that is the same feature as the Moto X, just without the chip? I am confused, because with it on my phone does nothing when I say Google, no matter where I am.

Its only setup to work when 'Google Now' is open and running. This can be achieved in some odd fashion by allowing the phone to turn the screen off, but not "sleep." This will bring all types of destruction and ruination to your battery life and really isn't worth it. Its a nice feature, but something, for most people, would be more a gimmick. I did almost grab an X instead of the One, but no Moto Maker, and the old hardware put me off.

Does motion gestures stop working for anyone else?

I've noticed when I leave my phone idle when going to bed at night and when I wake in the morning that my motion gestures stop working until I unlock the phone a few times with the power button. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this normal or is it a faulty device? I got a screen protector but it's a normal spigen one so I doubt it's that.
Everything work here at least if I don't cover the proximity sensor...
You have to pick the device up. Move it somehow then the motion detectors will work

Oh I see. That's what I do wrong probably. I've always wondered why double tap wasn't working when laying on my desk.
Edit: Well it works but not always. Odd. Thanks though

If it's on your desk naked, rock it gently in either direction, then double tap. It work that way too

I maybe wondered since the phone went into deep sleep maybe it would turn it off to prevent battery usage. I remember picking up device and trying to unlock. I'll try tomorrow again in the morning.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
ok waiting for your reply.
That's deep sleep the gestures won't work unless proximity detects movement and if the phone is in deep sleep then sensors are also

Camera shortcut?

Anybody else's camera shortcut (volume and rotate phone to landscape) work spotty at best? Its a really cool feature but it works when it feels like it. I find myself doing the shortcut 3-4 times and finally get the camera to work.
I've only got it to work a few times. It does seem a little iffy.

interestingly enough, sometimes it works if you rotate slowly, sometimes it only works if you rotate fast, sometimes volume up, sometimes down.
I'm with you. I loved the concept when I first got the phone, but it was so unreliable I don't bother anymore.
