what i've tried:
# keep on charger for multiple days
no led light, no reaction
# replaced battery with new one
can make it vibrate with reset button but that's all
# connect to pc with either vol+ or vol- hold
led stays red and detects only an usb hid device
I've had that happen, and I found that you pretty much need to trick it back into charging. Try plugging in the cable, then hold power and volume down until 3 vibration, then do it again, then try unplugged, etc. Leave it plugged in for a good bit also, then try some stuff...

Hello,
I understand much about computers, but little about phones.
I woke up today and realized i forgot to charge my phone. It had a steady red light on the power button and no reaponse from any button (the screen was black also) so i just took out the battery, waited two seconds till the light went off, poped the battery back in and
i get NO response at ALL?
I figured the battery was just dead so i plugged it into the wall, after ten minutes.. nothing. the light never even lit up indicating it was charging!
SO i pluged it into my laptop, and same result. Windows7 doesn't even recognize it!
If i hold down the power button, no responce (even if i hold it for 2+ minutes)
No lights light up, nothing.
THe cable i have is actually brand new, my sister got a new phone the other day and wanted to keep her old charger and gave me this one.
PLEASE someone help!
if u can access download mode try to reflash the rom
I can't even get windows 7 to recognize it's pluged in!
what do i do?
dl flash tool and install drivers
Where can i download this?
& sorry its making me wait 5 mins between each post
Wait, i just remembered. i used to plug my phone into this computer to use the sd card that's in my phone to transfer files to my other computer (because i didn't have a flash drive at the time)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299
still nothing... is there anything else i can do??
try to access download mode, hold "back" button then plug usb while turned of if u see a green light means u can access it
have you tried to charge about 2 hours or more?
See what happened is, i woke up and the light was steady red.
and the screen was all black, no responce with any keys. so i removed the battery and placed it back in,
now i think i might need a new battery? i tried 3 different cables and boxes that go into the wall, also tried them all on two different computers. absolutely no response from phone indicator light nor did any of the computers detect it.
i tried withoout sd card. no result.
tried holding down back key then plug it in, no result.
If i go to a store around the block that sells verizon phones and accessories ect. do you think he will help me troubleshoot?
Maybe i need a new battery.. IDK. this is really frustrating
If your battery is damaged, your phone will power on with the battery out and the power cable plugged in. If your device still wont power on, it's not the battery.

I called AT&T (my carrier) for warranty service but you can call Sony Ericsson directly. I don't know the number but I'm sure you can find it.

what have you done to your phone?
Have you tried another battery and/or charger? It may be that one of them or possibly both of them are dead.
I got the phone like in that condition, person who had it before claimed that phone worked and then shut down after 3-4 hours.

HTC M8 doesn't boot red LED flashing not charging
Hi,
I have big problems with my HTC M8. It is 11 month old.
I is rooted, has 4.16.401.10 firmware, Android Revolution HD 43.0 and
S-off SunShine.
In the evening I put it on the charger with 61% battery left. The next morning it didn't start up anymore and the red LED was flashing.
The battery didn't charge and so long it doesn't boot up at all, I can't connect it to the PC. It is only shows the big battery sign when I connect it to the charger which disappears some seconds later.
I didn't want to send it to HTC for guarantee, because I couldn't put on stock software.
My lokal handy-doctor changed the battery... nothing!
He changed the USB connection... nothing.
The red LED keeps flashing, the battery doesn't charge, it only becomes warm, I cannot turn it on. I have tried to press the power-volume+ -volume- buttons, nothing.
I think HTC will charge me, if I sent it for guarantee, or does anyone have other experience?
What should I do? Any idea?

Try holding the power and vol up for a long time, maybe a minute or so, and see if there is any change.

That was one of the first things which I tried. It has no effect.
Try power+vol up, and also power+vol down, with and without wall charger connected. I've seen a couple people have luck with that. Otherwise, if it still won't work, its pretty much bricked.
Especially since you've already had a new battery installed, it may be a problem on the mainboard.

Since you've had a 3rd party take apart the phone, replace the battery, and replace the USB port, your warranty is void.

I did that so many times. It doesn't help. I think its a hardware problem.

As you tried all the things I suggested with no luck, I agree its probably a hardware problem.
This would have been justifiably covered under warranty, since its a hardware problem. And since the screen doesn't come on, they wouldn't have known it was ever bootloader unlocked, custom ROM, etc.
But now that you've had a repair shop open it, it will be obvious to HTC the phone has been opened and they will probably charge you for repair.

From what I'm seeing, the M8 is only eligible if purchased after March, 2015 (which the OP did not):

I have the same problem.
Only the red light work when i plug the usb cable to charge the phone.
Some help?

This isn't the "same problem" unless you (like the OP) took it to a repair shop, had them replace the battery and then the USB port? I doubt it.
Posting "I have the same problem" is just lazy, and doesn't give us the proper info for anyone to properly help.
How did this condition come about, did you just find the phone in this condition? Or were you flashing anything or any other actions to cause this condition?
Plug the wall charger (not connected to computer) overnight. Then hold the power and vol up buttons for a minute or 2, and see if there is any change.
Also try a different charger and cable.

Ok, sorry for the lazy answer.
So, yesterday the phone works fine, when i go to sleep.
Today, the alarm clock sounds, I woke up, and when i take the phone, the screen is black. Therefore, it didn't work.
I used another charger and cables, but don't work.
The S.O is sense stock, only had custom recovery, but I never used.
If i plug it to the computer, isn't recognized.
Maybe, you can know any solution for that?
A lot of times, I try, with power + vol up and power + vol down, for around 20 seconds.
Thanks for all help, but my phone didn't change the red flashing.
I think I have to accept that my phone died the red flashing death. RIP

I specifically said to hold power + vol up for 1 to 2 minutes. 20 seconds isn't enough in some conditions.

Nothing shows up in Device Manager (if you are using PC)? Such as with an exclamation point by it?
No message about Qualcomm drivers?

I try again yesterday, hold the 3 buttons of 1-2 minutes. After that, hold power and vol + for the same time and any signals.
If i use my PC, doesn't recognize, didn't install drivers, or something else.
Hey everyone,
I have an HTC One M8 that I threw in a box after I upgraded to a new phone. However, recently I've tried to pull it out to try to experiment with it, since it has an IR Blaster built in and I wanted to try making it into a spare remote.
The phone is refusing to boot at all. I've searched the issue and I've tried all the suggestions I've found: Letting it charge for a bit then trying to reset the battery, letting it charge overnight to try again, ect. Holding anything doesn't give me any response from the phone at all. While it's plugged in, the phone has an amber LED that lights up for a few seconds and turns off, lights up for a few more seconds, then turns off for a little while more before starting the cycle again.
If I try to plug the phone into my computer, it recognizes it as a 'Qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008', which from more searching tells me that the phone could be bricked... but I've never tried to flash anything on this phone. It should be running stock Android. I don't know which version of android since it's been in a box for so long, but I'm about 95% sure it's stock.
Is the phone just entirely dead from sitting in a box for a few months, or is there a way to salvage it?
There are 2 options: Your phone is hard bricked and maybe it can be repaired, maybe not.
Or your battery is dead and need to be replaced.
How does a phone brick itself by being in a box for a few months?
Are those the only two options? Either it's dead or dead?

Make sure you charge with wall charger (not connected to a computer) and try another charger and cable. Charge overnight, and then try holding power+vol up for a minute or more. The last part is key in the current situation. I've seen a number of folks (myself included) that freaked out that the phone wouldn't come on, when we just needed to hold the buttons longer.

The Qualcomm "download mode" message (when plugging the phone to computer) will come up if the phone is bricked, but that is not the only situation that will give the Qualcomm message. This message will come up, whenever the phone is powered off, even a perfectly working M8. No USB interfaces can connect when the phone is powered off, that is all the message can conclusively tell you. That can be from a brick situation, or low battery, or simply if the phone is turned off.

The battery won't take a charge, if the voltage is allowed to drop too low. Usually, there are safeguards to prevent that from happening. But it does happen in some circumstances. Leaving it powered off for a long time can be one of those circumstances.
If charging overnight, and holding power+vol up doesn't show any improvement, you can try taking it to a repair shop. Some shops have special battery chargers that have a "boost" function, that can get the voltage high enough the battery "bring it back to life". But they may need to take the phone apart to do this. At that point, you may as well get a new battery.
I have had it plugged in all night, and tried the following ;
Hold power for 1 minute
Hold power and volume up for one minute
Hold power and volume down for one minute
Hold all 3 buttons for one minute
None of these worked.
I have plugged it into a PC but there is no connection.
Is there anything else I can do?
*EDIT* Fixed it! https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83649851&postcount=7
Its dead phone. What do you want some magic to turn it on? If it dosnt want to turn it on its dead phone and you cant do anything about it.
You might be right, but in the 20 years of owning mobile phones I have never had one that simply "died" before. I've ordered a new charge port as I think it might be to blame.

Pressing pwr + volume down or volume up won't turn on device.
You're not saying if device can enter to recovery nor fastboot or If your device is unlocked or not or if you have some screen as the logo or if you have some vibration, some led blinking, or if you let it charging with screen on (it must be screen burning) or if device was off while charging...
The phone has no sign of life. No led, no screen on. Nothing.

Well, there is not much you can do here, it could be a damage at the hardware level, probably in the port charger or at emmc/motherboard.
Also the overcharging or the kernel panic produced for some overheating can make that device won't boot.
The only you should try at software level is this https://c.mi.com/thread-1479882-1-0.html
I fixed it! After replacing the charging port it still didn't work.
However I read somewhere that disconnecting then reconnecting the battery connector inside the phone would work so I tried that and it worked.
Phone back working fully.
