I have a rooted verizon phone. Haven't updated it at all to more recent updates, all the sudden my entire data signal and call signal are off. I got no service.
Anyone else this happen to?
Is the only way to fix this to flash back to stock to get updates?
Fastboot images
Google: pixel or pixel XL factory images download the image and flash it to your device. (Marlin or sailfish)
You will need to setup ADB and Fastboot drivers then you can flash stock. Do not relock your bootloader and if you do I am not responsible!
Also make sure things boot up.
Is everything ok with your sim?

You mean as in your about phone says Out of service and your data does not connect or you have the bars bug where no white bars in the status bar at the top? If you look at your signal strength, it should display your actual signal strength in dbm.
Thanks for your replies.... turns out Verizon had a long term outage. Took 2 days for them to fix it and they continuously denied having an outage till I pointed out that they sent me a message telling me they had an outage that was being worked on. SMH
Actually I talked to google and they are aware of the issue, related to band 4. They are "actively working on it" and plan on a resolution soon ™.
The rep claimed it's only on some devices, but that's BS.

Weird. Probably is a Verizon side bug and google one then.
I just had this problem start up today. The status bar shows LTE, but I can't even get enough speed to run a speed test. I noticed it slowing down over the course of about 15 minutes and when I restarted it, it was dead slow. Interestingly, phone calls are fine. I tried turning airplane mode on and off as well. No dice.
Thanks Verizon.
Edit: just got enough signal for a speed test.
Down: 0.46
Up: 0.1
Also, I'm stock, unrooted.
Upon upgrading to 7.1.1, i have worse signal on Verizon with my Google Store purchased XL. I feel like flashing the old radio back to boost signal.

I'm sure if there was a Verizon Network Tech or Google engineer they could give the actual cause for this issue but that will never happen.
Basically the best thing you can do is call Google and call Verizon and complain to put pressure on them to fix it faster. I currently have a ticket in with Verizon and Google.

I've been using the Galaxy Nexus for about a month or so and have recently started to notice that the 4G signal will drop whenever I turn on the screen after some time in deep sleep. The signal meter will be fine, until I actually try to use some data. It typically takes about a minute to reacquire a signal, but the phone is essentially useless during that time.
As you can see in the screenshot, there are several red spots where the signal dropped out. I am not in a poor coverage area, and others with the same device do not have these issues. I saw this with a rooted 4.0.2 OTA and am still seeing it with a rooted, deodexed 4.0.4 rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481613).
What do people think? Will exchanging the phone possible fix the issue? Is there anything Verizon can do to try and help me out? I'm basically just spitballing here, but this problem is making my phone very frustrating to use.
Are you rooted or stock? I don't have any issues with my 4G on stock or rooted with Gummy 0.7.6. I had an issue with an earlier root where my 4G would drop. I would disable / re-enable and it would start to work again. Maybe try rooting if you are not rooted????

Yes, I see this on rooted stock, as well as the ROM I referenced in the original post (supposedly deodexed 4.0.4 stock ROM)
EDIT: From several posts in the other thread, this issue is not isolated to me or my hardware so I probably won't bother exchanging the phone.

So, I'm having the same exact problems but i did a log cat to see what might be culprit.
I have narrowed it down to this:
02-08 11:21:51.912 E/IMSFW (415): IIL: Disconnected from '7467' socket
still have no idea what can cause it yet.
also if you switch to 3g it seems it doesn't happen so maybe its a sim problem on verizons lte network end?
11:22:40.029 E/IMSFW (415): ImsSMSInterface: Registration failed, go for retrying if isim nounce present
that's what i found so if anyone can clarify and maybe see if it is really on Verizons end as this is the 4th phone that has had this problem.

Hey fellas, I'm posting in this thread because it relates to the issue I'm facing. Coming from the Thunderbolt, I had no problems holding onto a LTE signal in Atlanta, but with my GNex, the signal just drops a lot (every half hour or so maybe), at work, at the store, wherever. It shows an empty signal bar with a small x, and says 'Searching for Service'.
This seems to happen only when I have it in LTE mode. I switched to CDMA under the 'Mobile Networks' settings window, and it was able to hold on to the 3G signal all day. I am starting to think if it is a LTE sim card authentication issue.
I'm going to VZW to see what I can do (I'm still within the 14-day window).
I'm having the Same issue holding onto a 4g signal in Savannah and Atlanta, cdma only is fine. Let me know what Verizon tells u cause they basically told me to wait for an update

Just came back, basically they said they can't do anything unless they replicate the problem, which they couldn't. (it was a random problem.). They told me to call customer service when I got that issue, so I have to see that at work tomorrow.
I tried a suggestion online where I updated my prl from the 15xxx version to the 52642 version. I did this by creating a contact with the following number
*22899
and dialing that contact. It went through a 'activation' process, with some elevator music, and the signal seems to hold.

To this and post 10, I still have those data issues, but they are much less frequent on the 4.0.2 radio than the 4.0.4.
I got in touch with Verizon wireless online support, and they basically told me to wait till they release a software update. I asked for a new sim card (since I thought it might be LTE authentication issues), and they said it was a software problem, not a SIM problem.
I guess its a wait and see.
I have had this phone since July and it has been great to me. I am as S-OFF and converted it to GPE and my LTE speeds have been degrading to the point of unbearable. I get around 3 mbps down .6 up. I have checked with ATT and they didn't see anything wrong with my account. They gave me a new sim as well and checked thins from their end and nothing has changed. I tried restoring it back to stock and that did not work at all. Before I jump to the conclusion that this was a hardware fault, is there anything left for me to try?

I have an unlocked 10 running on T-Mobile US. I previously had no problems at home with a 4G LTE connection. But after updating to 1.53.617.5 this week, my LTE signal at home has completely disappeared on me. What's worse, the phone shows full bars, and won't drop to a slower connection. I have to manually switch to 4G/WCDMA (Auto) and use the slower 4G connection, which I presume is HSDPA.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? I even did a factory reset, but it didn't help whatsoever.
Between this and the weak Wi-Fi, I'm starting to have second thoughts about this phone.

I just tried wiping the cache partition. No dice.
I installed the OpenSignal app to see what's going on. It seems that the phone is locking onto a cell tower that's many miles away (in the middle of a river!), instead of many LTE cell towers that are only a block away from me. This makes no sense. It also indicates full reception.
The latest update definitely messed something up. Perhaps it's related to the "Wi-Fi stability enhancements".

I have this problem as well, spoke to T-Mobile and of course they tried to blame it on the phone saying that they cannot guarantee that an unlocked phone will work with their network. I proceeded to tell them that the phone was listed as fully compatible with T-Mobile's LTE network they had no answer. I know it's not a solution at all but I'm on T-Mobile's prepaid service so at the beginning of next month just before I need to make a payment I'm switching to AT&T to see if that is any better
I'm somewhat disappointed and I really don't know if I should return the phone or not

While I do think the 10 doesn't get a signal as strongly as other phones do (my S6 was great), I think the latest firmware (1.53) has impacted reception for the worse.

I shouldn't have to flash the phone to get it to work. Also, the purpose of getting the unlocked version was to have a carrier-free phone.
The more I use this phone, the more I notice that LTE connectivity is screwed up. It likes to lock onto the wrong cell towers that offer no reception (but still display full bars).
What's interesting is that when I turn on Wi-Fi, the phone locks onto the correct cell towers.
Forget the camera; HTC needs to resolve all these radio connectivity issues!

I agree the purpose of getting the unlocked phone was to not have to have a carrier branded device. I noticed that as well with the phone connecting to be incorrect tower. It really is frustrating because I've already started paying for my phone so I don't want to have to return it, I like all aspects of it physically but something has to be done about this reception. I used to get 4 to 5 bars and now I'm lucky if I get two
This is really ridiculous, I've only had my phone off the charger for just over an hour and I've used 10% of battery. I don't keep Wi-Fi on all the time I only had to turn it on to use Wi-Fi calling because my signal is so bad, HTC really needs to do something with the radios in this phone because the poor cell signal is just killing my battery life. Is anybody experiencing this same problem?

Has anyone noticed the ridiculously slow upload speeds of the pixel phones? I'm getting paltry upload numbers on two separate pixels. Any other Android OR iOS device is killing the upload numbers 3 to 1.
Is this a bug or hardware?
You'll have to give us a little more info here buddy.
Are you referring to Wifi? LTE? What Carrier? Are the phones on the same LTE bands?
I can tell you that on Verizon, I get fantastic Upload speeds on-par with my old Note 7. Normally 30-40Mb/s.
I can also tell you that if you are in an area running VZW's LTE Band 2, Upload sucks on that band. I suspect it's running a different slot assignment in the TDMA structure to prioritize download. Whenever I land on it, My upload speed is ~7Mb/s, But the download is blazing (100+Mb/s) depending on if you're in an area running Carrier Aggregation.
This was specifically about wifi. The wifi was tested in several different places on different networks.

I will agree however, The update they released (Got it ten minutes after I booted the phone up for the first time) supposedly fixed wifi issues.

My VZW Pixel XL is on NDE63P (Build number at the bottom of phone status).
Do you have the VZW variant, Or the Direct from google Variant?
If it's the VZW variant, See if you can borrow a SIM from someone to get the update. Even if the sim it came with is unprovisioned, It might get you on the network enough to grab the update via wifi.
Yeah I do. I'm wondering if it will continue to get updates of I don't have a version SIM. That's a whole other problem now I guess. I'm going to do that and at least see if the problem of speed corrects itself. Anyone know what the build of the Google version is?
So.. Funny thing happened. I put the Verizon SIM in and I received the update instantaneously. Interesting. Looks like you do not get updates with another carrier's SIM in the Verizon model. I'm thinking that it's not really unlocked then. Super Shady Verizon with that commercial stating "Only on Verizon" and now this.
Anyway.. I'm off to testing the upload now with the update.

There is. My Gf received the OTA yesterday.. I did as well. We are with T-Mobile. However, my bootloader is unlocked and I'm rooted so I ignored it. The security update will be next week, so I figured I'll wait to apply any updates.
4G and LTE are the same thing. Do a speedtest to check if you find the same speeds, but it's very likely just some regional assets not correctly fetched by the OS. The only reason why some builds show LTE in some countries is because of some very bad advertising from some providers (in the US for example some of them did that) where they called "4G" what should have been known as 3G+ (even though it was the same base protocol as 3G).
I'm seeing the same issue. Ran speed test and it's only hitting 10-12 Mbps. I'm also on AT&T. This happened after I updated today.
Flashed over with .020 and still having issues. No luck on the LTE.
I downgraded to .019 and was able to get LTE back. It automatically updated to .020 and I lost LTE again.
I had to downgrade back to .019 to get LTE back again. I turned off automatic updates in developer mode for now until the issue is gone.

.019 is for all other Pixels.
.020 is for Verizon Pixels.
When the update for .020 was automatically applied to our phones, this is what broke LTE.
I didn't try updating from .3C to .019 to see if this would fix it. Maybe someone can try and report back.
What I did was just clean flash the .019 on my phone. Once Pixel applied the additional small update for Oct. I still have LTE.
Basically, we all on AT&T flashed the wrong firmware.
Good luck!

I have a Pixel 3 on AT&T. After the last hot fix I noticed that my LTE notification changed to 4G. I prefer the LTE icon as it is more informative that "4G" which has little meaning anymore. I ran a network signal info app and I am on actual AT&T LTE and my speedtest is 118 Mbps up, 6.7 down with 19ms ping. So am pretty confident that I am actually on LTE just that the icon changed. Based on your post I looked at my build number and it lists QP1A.190711.020.C3. So I guess I have the .020 that you reference.
Are you sure you did not have LTE and it was not just an icon issue? I don't really feel like flashing different firmware so might just live with the 4G thing unless the "wrong firmware" will cause some actual performance issues...

Same here. I have good speeds, just trying to figure out why the icon changed after the flash. Since the firmware was pushed to my phone does that mean Google is pushing the wrong firmware? I know this is not a regional issue because I flew around the whole US over the last two days with no change. I also reset my network settings with no change.
4G = LTE on AT&T.
If you are ever in doubt, do: *#*#4636#*#* from the dialer and select phone information.

I agree but I have always been on AT&T and through every Nexus and Pixel my notification bar always read LTE not 4G. My wife's P3 is on Google Fi with the latest update and it still reads LTE. I will check what hot fix build she got tonight. So why would my phone (and others here) read/indicate 4G now?
As I said, probably just an asset being fetched inconsistently. I know for a fact in other parts of the world it never says LTE but just 4G (because less bad communication around it here), so the system pulling one or the other is just up to how it associates the connected network to a region that says LTE or one that says 4G. My best guess would be that AT&T was misplaced in the last update for some reason that I can't imagine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I lost my LTE this morning.
Had to "disable" the Google eSIM.
Then re-enabled it and LTE came back.
Lost it again after a reboot.
Repeated the above steps and it's been solid since.

I had full bars with 4G on .020.3C and was only getting 10-15Mbps. It wasn't just an icon change then. It could also be the spot that I was in.
Anyone else having normal LTE speeds, but only have the 4G icon?

Thats for AT&T and/or Google to answer.
The bottom line is, regardless of what the indicator shows, use the dialer code and you will find out exactly what data network type you are on.
I have a Pixel 3XL and had the same issue. I did a factory reset yesterday and my LTE was good again
