Hi there
I recently got the 7.1.1 update on my Nexus 5x.
I am using the native google keyboard with the slide functionality.
However since the update i can no longer slide-type words that uses the danish "æ" or "ø" letters (located on the far right and middle row of letters) when i slide a word like "kære" it will suggest various other words that doesn't contain the letter "æ" like køre, kort or similar. I can slide words using the special character "å" fine.
Also if i tap the words out i can use the letter "æ" and "ø" fine. Just not when i use slide.
I tried installation a different keyboard, Swiftkey, and when i use that keyboard it works fine. I just prefer the native keyboard.
Also i have Google Nexus 5 and on that phone everything works fine.
I tried to do a factory reset but the problem is still there.
Does anyone have any idea how to make this work again?
Download the Gboard APK from xda. It's an updated version of Google keyboard, works great for me now.

works very nice
What, the link is down?
Did it get xda'd? lol
Been using it for a few weeks.. Skinable and very easy to type with. In fact you can just slide your finger around and let go when you see the key you are looking for highlited..
Another thing you should look into is PocketCM...

CONTACTS replacement!!! I like this even more then their keyboard solution.. Imagine the iPhone contacts slide you see everywhere, and you have pocketCM. One of the best features is the A-Z on the left side to quick jump.

How do you install this on hermes w/WM6? When I go into settings / input and change to PCM keyboard it says " Pocket CM keyboard has to be the current sip in order to configure it? what do I do?
Just click the little triangle beside your keyboard icon (bottom middle of bar) and select PCM Keyboard. That should do it...
i have been using the pocket CM k/b since yesterday and ts a quantum leap forward from any other k/b that is available. Its a must have for any Windows mobile user. It works on all PPC phones!
There is also a contact manager from the same author. You can use your fingers to scroll through and select contacts. I use that as well. It works great! It is called pocketCM. URL: http://www.pocketcm.com/index.php
I've installed it and it shows up in the list of available input devices but selecting it does nothing at all. The keyboard doesn't change visually onscreen and if I check the current input device it still shows the standard keyboard.
I can go into it's options and play around with things but if I change the Input Method to PCM Keyboard and click OK, it still doesn't switch over.
Running Schap's WM6 Pro 3.60a ROM.
Tried soft resets, tried installing to main memory and to storage.
Running 0.6 version.

same problem here
What a bummer.
Too bad the Hermes doesn't have either a slide out keyboard, Block Recognizer, Letter Recognizer or Transcriber.

I don't think sarcasm is called for; this looks like a neat keyboard that works better than the stock one for those times that you dont want to slide out or use the stylus.

Strange, I installed it on my 8525 (see sig for ROM info), and it worked fine. Of course my fat fingers don't let me use it all too well... But then again, I have the same problems with an iPhone and even the slide-out keyboard on the Hermes. I actually find the Letter Recognizer to work quite well for me, but it's a matter of personal preference (I was a big fan of Graffiti on the Palm, but Graffiti 2 was abysmal.)

Is there anyway to make this the default keyboard? When i reset my phone, it goes back to the standard keyboard
I'm in love with this keyboard! I had downloaded and installed the first version a couple weeks ago and liked it enough to use occaisonally. I felt like it had great potential and just needed a little polishing. But this new version, .6, is awesome! Perfect. I'm gonna use it all the time except when typing sms with the palm threaded app. I'll slide out the hardware keyboard on my hermes for that.
As soon as someone fixes the palm threaded app so that the SIP keyboard doesn't cover up the text you're inputting, I'll use this new PCMkeyboard there, too. And I'll send a hefty donation to that person that fixes the palm app.
donation on the way to this PCM guy, too.
Does anyone know if this keyboard supports other languages' input methods?
Under the options, there's a select box for "Keyboard layout" which includes:
Czech
English
Francais
German
Polish
Russian
Spanish
I've been hoping for something like Swype for a while, and now with the 3.25 beta it works on my A43. Now, if only it had a hexagonal ATOMIK layout instead of that silly QWERTY one! (But there are patent issues with the ATOMIK layout.)
Yeah, it also works on the 101 now.
Only problem:
The language settings don't show all languages that are listed as supported in the offical resoulution / language table.
As an example, German is missing. (Don't know about all others)

I have swype on my HTC Legend phone.
I think swype on a A101 is difficult.
I use the multiling-keyboard which has 'big' keys for easy touch.
hmmm
im not really a fan of swype
ive downloaded flex t9 and i use that on all my devices
it does have swype like abilities but i feel its better
just my opinion
I used swipe but found swiftkey better for me. Use on both SGS & 101
Just intalled it on my 101... REALLY liking this new version (wasn't a big fan of the older version).
Is it supposed to be centered like that and not taking up the whole screen, or is that just a problem on our devices?
Either way, seems to be working very welll!
Using thumb keyboard loving it

Yes, German is missing. Strangely some people in German forums got it working anyway. Don't know how they did it.
How do I change this from English? It's the default language and there are no other options to choose. I want to use Simplified Chinese with Pinyin input on the keyboard. The soft keyboard works fine, only the hardware keyboard has this problem.
I'd like to know it too. I'm using a DZ with stock rom and spanish hw keyboard, but I have only bthe english layout...

Well, this worked fine in my Windows Mobile phone. I could switch back and forth from English to Chinese on both soft or hard keyboards. But from reading around, I seem to find that the keyboard is locked to one language. What a dumb idea. Yet another stupid problem with my phone that shouldn't be a problem.
I'm using GO keyboard from the android market. You're able to download multiple language packs as well and Pinyin is working fine for me even on the physical keyboard.
Thanks for the advice, it works great. A bit of trouble to get Chinese working correctly, but it's fine now.
Glad to help. =D
Other keyboards that support language change via hardware keyboard are Smart Keyboard Pro and AnySoftKeyboard.
Hello,
I didn't post here for a long time, so I hope that this is the correct section to post my problem, if it isn't, I kindly ask a moderator to move it in the correct place, thank you.
Also I wanna thank all that users here who develop custom ROMs, you are doing a great job.
Now I would like to explain my problem:
I ran an HTC Desire Z with the stock ROM for almost a year now and decided to upgrade the ROM. A friend helped me to unlock and root the device, he put the Andromadus CM 10.1 build 22 on the phone.
This (and also the hardware keyboard) worked quite fine, until I installed SwiftKey via Amazon Appstore.
Since I installed this app and changed the input method for both on-screen-keyboard and physical keyboard, the hardware keyboard behaves weird and is not fully useable. The layout changed from german QWERTZ to QWERTY (which I actually chose in Swiftkey Settings as it is fine for me), but additionally, the FN Key doesn't work anymore: When I press it, followed by some key, the number or symbol doesn't appear. Instead, nothing happens; additionally, in Skype 4.4.0.31835, the button for sending a chat disappears and can be only brought back by switching to portrait mode.
Unfortunately, neither unchecking SwiftKey from input methods nor uninstalling it solved this problem, which is quite annoying as I cannot type any numbers and many needed special signs.
I checked already these things:
- physical keyboard layout (vision-keypad-ger)
- Has this keyboard file the right content, according to Thread "[GUIDE] Simple way to change physical keyboard keymappings!" --> yes, it has, even Y and Z are not swapped)
So it seems as if SwiftKey changed some other file or setting in the system.
Could anyone please tell me where to search to resolve that issue?
Thank you very much in advance,
greets,
PS. I could, of course, backup the phone and reflash it, but I really would like to use SwiftKey as it improved my workflow dramatically even though I only used, use and will use the hardware keyboard...
Hello,
I now had some time to investigate a bit more. First I have to add, that some keys still worked with FN; these were ! ([email protected]), = (FN+?) and one other which I don't remember.
Then, I backed up my Apps and Data and reflashed another ROM (SlimROM), with which I had a lot of other problems, so I switched back to the already stated Flinny-CM10.1, Build 22.
I didn't install Swiftkey, neither any other apps, I just changed the hardware keyboard layout to QWERTY. Immediately, I had the same behaviour
Also, I checked the other files in the keychars directory and I found that the system fell back to "Generic.klc". Exchanging the file with "vision-keypad-ger.klc" by renaming it now led to even worse - now only the menu and the search buttons are working i.e. the keyboard is completely unuseable...
As next, I also changed something in the keylayouts directory, which made no improvement.
can somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks a lot =)
greets
Hello, everyone.
I have used my OnePlus 5t very happily for quite some time, and now I have an unexpected task for it.
I need to use it with a keyboard and no mouse. I bought a Bluetooth keyboard, and successfully managed to type in a simple text.
However, I met a few problems with it.
So far I use Android 8.0, and this is what I have found:
Landscape layout cannot be set as permanent. Which is damn inconvenient, because the default launcher of Android 8.0 doesn't work in landscape mode.
Switching keyboard layouts is a pain. I have 5 keyboard layouts (GBoard with Russian, English and French, Google PinYin for Chinese and Google Japanese for Japanese. By trial and error I found that Win+Space change the layout, but this key combo only switches between the first two keyboards (not layouts !), effectively binding be between Russian and Chinese inputs.
Other keyboard shortcuts are weird and don't make an understandable system. Luckily, Alt+Tab work as expected, but I haven't found a shortcut for neither the 'Android back' button, nor the 'Show Desktop' button. Curiously, Ctrl+Esc works as an old 'Android Menu' button, which saves me a lot of hassle. Neither Win+L nor Alt+D work as 'place the cursor to the address bar', however, 'Ctrl+t' indeed opens a new tab in Firefox.
My question therefore is the following: who would recommend the best custom or stock ROM to be used with a keyboard?
I know, on my old Asus the old CyanogenMod could force the landscape mode everywhere. Can the more modern LineageOS do the same? Or maybe the last OOS (with Android 8.1)?
Is there any guide on how to use Android (or Oneplus 5t) with a keyboard?
I need to use Magisk (with Magisk Hide), so I'd at least prefer an OS which pretends to be legit.
Thanks everyone for suggestions.

CM is EOL.
LOS is relevant and yes it can force landscape.
AospExtended is the ROM that I'd try.
