Since I had my evo I have always left my GPS on because I thought it just sat idle and didn't use any battery until it was called on by an app.
Now I'm not really sure if leaving it on helps drain the battery or not but I'm going to try leaving it off to test.
My question is, by turning it off...what does it affect? I use beautiful widgets with a clock/location/weather.. so will turning it off mess up anything with that? Like maybe location/weather? If I have to update manually and leaving gps off doesn't mess with anything else as far as phone operations then it may be worth doing if it helps battery life.
Anyone care to elaborate a little on their experience with it on or off?
Thanks guys
i keep mine on, still get about 2 days use outta my evo.
i think with it off, some apps use the data signal instead to trianglulate your signal by using the cell towers, but please correct me if im wrong.
Ahh so leaving it off may actually hurt my battery when the apps are trying to use it...hmm
ANyone else?
It shouldnt effect the battery unless something uses it. You can also use tasker to turn it on when you are using certain apps, that way you can make sure its not being used when you don't want it to be.
The weather widget should be able to get your general location from the network and what towers you are near.
I actually leave my GPS on all the time, but turn OFF the network location. It's supposed to save some battery, although it does potentially take longer to get a GPS fix since it's not assisted by the towers.
Hey all,
Noticed my battery level dropping pretty quickly even with SetCPU etc. underclocking my Desire when the screen is off. It seems it's the Suspend process using around 30% CPU for no reason. See screenshots attached.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks
Russ
It may be that System Panel itself is causing your issue.
See this thread.

Dave
Having it simply installed would cause this? I don't usually leave the monitoring running unless I suspect something is up, that's the only reason it's running at the moment.

Probably not, but it may be skewing your results when you try to determine what's causing the problem. What about partial wake locks - is anything else keeping the phone from sleeping?

Dave
Doesn't seem to be anything else. I'll keep an eye on it now that I have changed the priority setting on system panel.
It's definitely not SystemPanel. I have it and it's off and the suspend process is running wild.

Did you ever find out what was causing this? I'm finding the same thing on my phone twice this week.
turn off auto sync, toggle on off as needed, you can be running all sorts of data through system apps via 3G even when the phone is asleep/standby
Foxmeister had a point because suspend does show up as 10-30% consistent when you have hardware monitoring and logging enabled in many apps like System Panel.

this isnt it. i had my phone in airplane mode all night and the "suspend" process started running at 10% CPU from 10pm to 6am when the battery died. if airplane mode was on the whole time, no way its caused by data/network
I am having the same issue, airplane mode was on but suspend is acting crazy. This has been killing me since I've flashed the new update for evo 4g for my rooted phone. 30% sucking from process has left me charging my battery twice a day. Please help if anyone can!
same issue here.
EVO ... Froyo 2.2
suspend ... according to watchdog ... is regularly registering at over 50%...
if i reboot the phone .. it will take care of the issue for a few hours or maybe a day ...
I'm having this problem too. Rooted with Myn's Warm ROM. Someone at AF said it was the Facebook app. I'm uninstalling that now...
...any other ideas?
Same problem. Rooted evo king bfs #9 kernel
I have "always on data" un checked and noticed this... Maybe apps are trying to sync but have no network connection...
Was having same issue with rooted stock rom. Recently flashed to Vaelpak 2.2 and hasn't happened yet...
So this still happens to me once in a while. I found if I'm in an area where I can connect to wi-fi, the suspend process drops to 0, after connecting to wi-fi. Other than that only a reboot will "fix" it for a while.
Anyone else have any updates?
I raised the flag on this issue in early august for my stock 2.2 EVO. I was basically ignored back then, so now that others are experiencing this, perhaps we can get enough info to submit to HTC for a fix. If it's affecting the EVO and the Desire, it probably affects all 2.2 Sense UI androids.

I'm in the same boat... I never noticed this problem, until Sunday. Now I have had the problem 3 times in 4 days. Reboot fixed each time, but seems to be coming back more often now.
I'm running VaelPak 2.2... Maybe gamer83 is onto something with it being Sense related /shrug...Has anyone running CM noticed this issue?
I am experiencing abnormally high suspend cpu activity too. The strange thing is it behaves when I am connected to a wifi network. It goes to crap when I am away. Not sure if means anything, but when I am away I have 4G on.
Make sure to star this issue:

Hi folks,
My rooted but otherwise relatively stock G3 D851 suddenly has poor battery life. It turns out it's not sleeping due to a pair of wakelocks ( BlueSleep and msm_serial_hs_dma ) that are 100%. What's the best way to find out which app is pegging them? The only Bluetooth device I use is my car, and this wakelock problem only started in the last couple weeks (not exactly sure... sometime over the holiday).
I don't want to turn off Bluetooth... I like the auto connection to my car, and since it used to work fine without the wakelock issue when not connected, I don't think the phone's core functionality is a problem. I've seen threads on specific apps causing this (Gas buddy was a big one last summer), but I don't have the specific apps that I've seen reported as problematic.
So... what's the best way to figure out which apps are causing the pair of wakelocks I'm observing?
Thanks!
Marc
Hi guys,
i have a serious wakelock issue.
When my Nexus 5X Build MMB29Q is connected to a wifi network which required authentication (for example room no and last name when in a hotel) it suffers very high battery drain.
qcom_rx_wakelock is keeping my device awake.
As soon as i turn of wifi, the wakelock no longer occur.
When it turn it back on qcom_rx_wakelock continues to keep my device awake.
After some googleing i still don't know what qcom_rx_wakelock does.
Can anyone of you give me any information?
Since BBS says it's a kernel wakelock i already tried a different kernel but it's the same with franco.kernel and ElementalX.
Does anyone of you know or have any idea how i could fix that issue?
I also have Amplify installed.
Is there a way to block the qcom_rx_wakelock with Amplify?
Unfortunately i couldn't find it in Amplify
Thanks for your help!

Same here with Moto G 2nd Gen. Did you find a cure for this?
When I got my OP3 I noticed that my battery wasn't quite as good as some had been reporting and that there was a lot of drain going on while the phone was off. After a while I started to notice that I was having bad wakelocks only when I was on any WiFi network on campus. When I went home for Thanksgiving, this battery drain was completely eliminated and I was easily getting 6+ hours of SOT which is almost double what I was getting. Once I came back to school, the battery drain came back. I did some research and everything seemed to point to the qcom_rx_wakelock which seems to be an issue on many school/work networks. I ran Wakelock Detector while on WiFi and this confirmed that qcom_rx_wakelock is the cause of the drain.
I am on version 3.2.8 and completely stock and I would like to keep it that way. This wakelock is an issue on the network's end and from the sound of things there aren't really any software fixes that I could do. I've read that most battery saving fixes such as using Amplify or flashing a different kernel don't help anyways. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could stop this? Are there any changes to the network that the school could make to alleviate this issue? I doubt they would listen but it's worth a try. Or are there any other things I could try?
Also, I should mention that I tried the simple fix of turning off the setting "Keep WiFi on During Sleep" which prevented me from reconnecting to the WiFi even when I turned the phone back on. The only way I could reconnect to the network was rebooting my device.
same with me.
i open qq in background. if i connect to the college wifi, screen off wake time is up to 50%;if i connect to my router,it's about 12%.. BTW,i use betterbatterystates to see my wake time.
Flash Franco Kernal, it has this WiFi wake lock fix.

I'm having the same problem but what's new for me is that I'm connecting to the same router from last week I'm facing this issue on any ROM but IDK how can this happen bc my router are same as before it used to work fine before.
I guess it a hardware fault?
