Lenovo VibeShot z90-7 battery drain - Lenovo Vibe Shot Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I had this phone for maybe 2 months now, and battery really sucks, even though it's 2900 mah.
Problem is following, i cant really identify any issues, i dont see any abnormal wakelocks, or anything that's actually draining the battery.
But still, drain is around 2.5% per hour, on standby, in deep sleep.
If i kill bunch of apps from android system, like lenovo checker, location, etc, it gets down to 1.3%, but comes back up after 10 hours or so.
Phone has stock, international rom, not rooted.. Any ideas?
Here are some shots for reference, after it was left to idle overnight, and even in airplane mode.
Would someone be so kind to attach these screenshots for me? (I can't, as a new user)

On Lollipop roms battery is sucks. On Marshmallow roms are 30-40% better. Flash new rom if you are on LP rom.

So i presume you already have marshmallow?
Can you share your battery usage specs, and how much % it's draining per hour?

According to this you dont even get a full day with 1 charge.
Can you tell me how much % does it drain overnight on idle?
Thanks.

But i'm using phone almost all day.
I have 30+ third part apps installed.
If you enable Sync all day battery drain faster than disabled.
When i use phone only when i need, not for YouTube, read news or similar, i dont charge phone before night.
About 15-20% i have 22-23h.
On LP in idle drain about 15% - to much.
On MM almost nothing max 5% for me.
I tested this 4,5 times.

On night, day, or even in airplane mode, i always had 2.5% drain, per hour. I disabled everything possible, but the problem was the "double tap" to wakeup feature. I found it using gsam battery monitor, it showed me sensors logs, and it was always awake. After disabling this, phone finally works normal, i reseted the counter, i'm now on 3rd hour, and still shows 0% per hour.
I'm still thinking about upgrading, i will get it to 100% charged and see how it works then.

Wha rom you use? I also disabled double tap. This feature drain battery, but i have rooted rom and i have much more options in Xposed, SecurityIt for better battery.
If you have rooted rom i suggest you to download PowerToggles app. In app you have feature for enable/disable sync mod.

Z90-7-S980_160815_ROW, i have power toggle, battery is ok now.
I'm now getting 0.2% usage per hour, on idle (before 2.5% with double tap).

I newer hear for that rom
Mabey some new chinese ROW rom.
Послато са Lenovo Z90-7

It's stock rom, international version (ROW), no root, has google play, no bloatware, it did come with some malware (teleyphone, and android.v5 sommething) which i managed to disable via ADB.
With phone mostly idling, and a longer phone call, around 1 hour, i used 13% of battery in 20 hours, so i'm pretty satisfied with how it works now.

Can you share me some screenshot on your rom? First time i hear for that version of rom.
S364 MM VibeUi 3.1 is the latest ROW rom for this phone.
1625 is the latest chinese MM rom.

This is android 5.1
Latest international Lillipop ROW rom is S240. I see in last months chinese sharing some unnoficiall rom. On Lenovo site/forum this rom dosent exsist. Strange.
Mabey this rom is some fix for battery life because on S240 battery drain fast.

It's possible, i bough it from tinydeal, chinese website.
I also got previous phone from china, from etotalk, it was p770, with 3500mah battery, it had their customized rom, battery was unrealistic, i got 9.5 days average use.
Here's my battery usage now, on Z90-7
Here's on my old phone, P770, also chinese custom rom, made by the seller.

I had the same issue with android 6.0.1.
The problem is that the location service also uses Wi-Fi and when it is enabled it keeps the cpu in a loop awake and drains power. What you need to do is to go to Wi-Fi settings and disable the scanning for known networks. Then go to location settings and more and disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, then go back and choose the option for location as device only (no Bluetooth /Wi-Fi). Restart the device.
If you need to use the location you have to refuse the prompt to improve accuracy. If the battery drain occurs again you just have to disable the settings again and restart the phone. To check for the issue type battery in the search bar and open the 1st result and click on the graph or open it from and app like sensor multitool and open the usage summary. After I did the fix I lose about 1% every 3h with the screen off and receiving notifications. And about 4h of screen on time. The other thing that keeps the phone awake is the function knock to wake, double tap the display to wake up. Disable that too.

Battery drain with 2.3.6_4.5.2-109 DHT25

Ok, here is what I've done...
Had ms2ginger2.1, wiped data/cache/dalvik...
Flashed FroyoCEE with RSD
Rooted, installed 2ndInit 2.0
Reboot in CWM
Clear cache/dalvik
Installed 4.5.3-109fixed.sbf via install zip from sdcard in CWM-recovery
Advanced restore in CWM-recovery
Restore system only of 2.3.6_4.5.2-109 DHT25_themed MultiLanguage
Rebooted...
Charge battery to 100% and one hour after that (Battery monitor widget is showing 0mA)...Calibrated it with Nemo's Battery Calibration from Market
Discharge till phone went off...
Charged whole night, turned on, unplugged...
And now battery is lastin for 1.5 days only. In deepsleep I have about -40mA...During night times I have -50 or smth when Data/Wifi/Sync is off...
What shall I do to make battery drain normal (-5mA).
Oh yea...I had -2mA when battery was 99% and I was like woohooo...But then starting from 98% I have -40 or so...
I also have battery gaps from 54%--->49% and from 27%--->20% (u can read about that here).
I tried different calibration method too and even crazy one ---> this one. Nothing seems to work.
I don't know what is happening, I used to have 3 days of battery life with MS2Ginger 2.0 and after trying MIUIs and CM7 and then applying ms2ginger2.1 update with "new" method of installation (with new CWM and 2ndInit 2.0) everything went down the drain...
If someone could help me to recalibrate my battery again I would appreciate that.
Tnx
After some tests...
Hi again,
After 2 charge cycles I think I can post my results of battery life here.
During these tests display was kept off as mush as possible, DATA/WiFi/Sync was OFF (except when mentioned), sent around 20 sms, and had 3-4 calls, checked SocialApp, mail.
New apps I installed on 2.3.6_4.5.2-109 DHT25 were CPU spy, Battery Calibrator, BatteryMonitorWidget.
As I mention in previous post, I did this hard calibration method option 8b and I thought it didn't work, but then I saw no gaps between 55% and 49% as well as between 27% and 20% (you can see that bellow and in FirstBatteryCycle.txt):

As you can see, current consumption is really high even I didn't touch my phone at all at that time.
After that I left my phone to completely discharge (which took a while because from 100% to 2% is only 1 day, but from 2% to 0% is like 6 hours) and charge it over the night.

Next day battery cycle can be seen in SecondBatteryCycle.txt.
As you can see in that .txt until 87% current consumption was really high even if I only used wifi and checked SocialApp for 15min and sent only 2 sms (display was off almost all the time except above mentioned)
After that current consumption is lovering and went down to -5mA...I did one call and sent one sms and it jumped to -10mA and kept rising, but was pretty much stable around -14mA.
But the weirdest thing begun after 23.00h. As my battery mode is Nighttime saver mode, it should be logical that in those hours current consumption is the lowest, but my phone is starting to live its own life after I went to bed.

Current consumption jumps on -55mA and stay between 35 and 70
What the hell is that???
Do I have some ghosts in my machine?
Of course there is again battery gap but this time a bit smaller (from 53% to 49% and from 26% to 19% wow 1% better ) so the hard calibration wasn't successful imho.
After that, from 40% to 20% current use is around -50mA ffs!!! Why??? Im not even using my phone, Im writing my project report on my computer with DATA/WIFI/SYNC OFF on my phone.
I let my phone completely discharge again and it took again more than 6 hours to die with 1% of battery
When my phone is on 1% that is the only time I manage to have -2mA in deepsleep as Walter said he gets.
So things that bugs my mind are:
High current consumption during night time and when in deepsleep/standby. Why is this happening?
Why do I have -2mA in deepsleep only with 1% of battery left?
How is it possible that 1% is lasting for 6 hours and 98% for only 1 day?
How to seal the gaps?
Those things happened with MS2Ginger2.1 too. But I had 50 new apps installed so I wasn't sure is this because of the ROM or because of the apps. Now with clean installed ROM I can say something fishy is goin on.
One more thing. When WiFi is ON, I have around -70mA
--->So can anyone help me to restore my phone to previous 3 days battery use?
Any ideas?
Walter says he's got -2mA in DeepSleep with this ROM...How ffs? Tips?
Is there any way to perform the cleanest installation possible of this ROM so I can restore my battery life?
BTW...My history of installed ROMs (1st is the latest one):
2.3.6_4.5.2-109 DHT25_Themed_Multilanguage
MS2Ginger2.1
CM7.1 for 15min
CMIUI
MS2Ginger2.0
CMIUI, WIUI...MS2Ginger
Stock 2.3.4
Pays ROM
In my opinion things gone wild since either:
Flashing 2.1 after CM7, even if I did clean install every time.( starting from stock Froyo CEE)
When I was on MS2Ginger2.0 (was before CM7) and when I installed AndroSensor from the Market. That was the 1st time I had really huge battery consumption ( battery died in one day, previously lasted for 3). I don't have that app installed but maybe something left that is draining battery. I did clean installs every time, but who knows. Maybe there is something hidden on SD card or in phone storage
______________
Logcat
Me again...
Some of you guys suggested me to try installing Bootmenu 1.0.4 and CWM-recovery 5.0.3.1.
Currently I have:
bootmenu: 1.1.0-jordan
CWM: 5.0.3.2-jordan
Or clean install like this: LINK
I will try clean install from that link, and then Bootmenu and CWM like suggested.
But till then,
I ran one more battery cycle but this time with Catlog Recording. I posted whole Logcat here. And battey history of that day.
Using battery monitor widget and logcat I can see that when battery consumption jumps up, or when I have battery gaps this usually happens:
01-31 02:42:49.514 E/NetlinkEvent( 3581): NetlinkEvent::FindParam(): Parameter 'UDEV_LOG' not found
What is that? And this is one thing that is all over the logcat when battery is draining fast.
Battery lasted for 55 hours now, but I DIDN't use my phone at all.
Data/Wifi/Sync was OFF, I sent few SMS and received few calls and that is it.
Just asking, are you using the same simcard as when you have -2mA? Some time ago I used to have -20mA+ when I'm using old simcard. Changed new simcard, never had that problem again.
I'm using msginger2.1 now. Normal 2-3days usage with minimal online use. About 1% every 2hour when idle.
Have -2mA, got battery drop from 29%-19% but I guess that is normal.
I also notice when sometime unplug defy from power, the screen stays black, but the backlight is actually on. You should make sure the backlight is really off by turn display on and off again after unplug by pressing power button.

Check the Partial Wakelock to see which app keeps the phone awake.
I use this app try to troubleshoot wakelock. Atrix got this wakelock problem by AlarmManager, but not on defy.
Well I have only ONE simcard, so everything you see here is with that particular simcard.
And that makes it so strange.
No bugs after unplug, tested it.
I will try this app, thank you.
Will report results here also.
Ok, so I wiped everything (SD card, data/cache/dalvik in CMW, data/cache in Stock recovery)...
Installed Froyo CEE with RSD
SuperOneClick rooted
2ndInit 2.0 installed
Installed CM7.2 Ep3 31.jan build with Al patch.
Battery was kinda OK at first, around 2% per hour with DATA/WiFi/Sync OFF, but then I had drop 54%--->49% and then during my sleep, battery drain was quite big again (~30mA or more)...I really do have ghosts in my phone. Ghosts of my previous ROMs angry that I switched to some other ROM
And again today I had drop 26%--->19%.
So nothing is changed.
Damn...Im gonna sell my Defy and buy new Defy+ and just root it and that's all
I'm running Quarx cm7-02032012 nightly and I have the same issues on my Defy.
Here's a screenshot:

Before I was running Barebones 1.57 (Froyo) and never had problems with that.
I did not do any kind of calibration so far, I just started running CM yesterday. Any suggestions on how to proceed?
I would like to help you mate, but so far none would work
U can try that hard method of calibration I tried: LINK
Or just use your phone for few charge cycles and battery should recalibrate itself I hope
Did u installed CM7.2 or 7.1?
I think I will try with different CPU speeds, as someone suggested me to do. (return to max 800, not 1000).
I hope something will work eventually or Im back to Pay's Froyo! (3-4 days of battery).
I installed 7.1.0-11 and then Quarx nightly cm7-02032012-NIGHTLY-Defy
But I din't flash any 2.3.6 SBF, i kept the full 2.2.2 SBF (3.4.3-36-1.7_Stock.SEA_DEBLUR.sbf) I had before.
With Barebones i had usually 2 days with normal usage, but it was somewhat buggy and that's why i changed to CM.

REALLY Poor Battery Life for 80 G9

As much as I love my Archos 80 G9, there's one thing that I truly don't love: the battery life. More accurately, the lack of battery life. Archos' web site boasts 7 hours of video playback, 10 hours of internet surfing, and a whopping 36 hours of music playback on a single charge. My experience is quite different, and I'm currently getting about 5 hours of idle time!!! That's right, just unplugging it from the charger and letting it sit there drains the battery in about 5-6 hours. Now I'm not expecting to be able to watch the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy on a single charge, but just being able to get through "Return of the King" would be a nice start!
I do run the tablet on Surdu's custom ROMs (there are just too many root features that I actually use to go back to stock), but I've had this issue since I bought the tablet back in October just running stock. Even running the "stock + root" ROM (no overclock, fancy transitions, etc.) leaves me with a dead battery in 5 hours. I use a custom Launcher (GO HD for Tablets) and a live background, but neither of these should affect battery life while idle. It could very well be background processes, but this being my first Android device I'm uncertain how to proceed and figure out what might be the problem, or even if I need to send it back to Archos for service. Any help would be appreciated!

the live wallpaper may very much have something to do with it. You need to find a battery stats app and find the rogue app that triggers the device to wake up even when in sleep. Have you tried deep sleep? (in ICS > settings > battery > check "deep sleep"
i usually have a very long battery life while on idle see this screenie

I turned off GPS and Bluetooth, and that has dramatically changed the battery drain for the better. I'm still at 68% after 7 hours at idle with about 10-15 minutes of active use. Still not ideal, but much better. I'll keep trying to find any rogue apps and quell any leeches. Lookout Labs' Ad Network Detector is good at figuring out which "free" apps use the more obnoxious ad networks; it helps to get rid of those, as well.
I'm experiencing same issue here - Archos G9 TURBO 250 HDD with latest ICS and it drains batt while off
Have you found cause of this problem?

a)disable GPS (it's enabled by default)
b)turn on Deep Sleep (settings->battery) or
c)use Hibernation instead of locking the screen only (long press Power and select Hibernation)
If device is powered on and deep sleep/hibernation is not activated it uses quite some power all the time.
a) I turned off GPS but no effect
b) Deep Sleep was turned on from begining
c) tried both hibernation and normal locking the screen - no help
This was on ICS, I'm now trying HC and see if this drains my batt too.
I even installed System Panel Task Manager and enabled monitoring but didn't find any app using too much battery only wierd thing was display - on when I didn't use device...
For me, the GPS was definitely the main culprit. I turned Bluetooth back on and my battery life was still vastly improved, even running overclocked. Beyond that, just keep looking for apps that stay running. A lot of "free" games and apps will keep calling home, even if they've never been launched! MIB3 from Gameloft does this as do many others.

I've installed HC 3.2.80 yesterday, full reset of system and storage, charged to 100% and now only 8% of battery left. I have deep sleep mode turned on, gps off, bluetooth off, tablet switched to airplane mode, in battery usage details - 100% of inactivity (14 hrs 20 min) but something ate my battery. Any ideas?

GSII T989 battery drains to 7% then slows significantly?

I have 3 new GSII T989 phones on our plan. They work very well, but battery life can be inconsistent.
I have managed to get as much as 5 days out of them, that is with nearly 0 usage and stock apps disabled and all accounts and sync removed.
But I noticed, that regardless of usage, once the battery reaches 7% it starts draining much much slower. Maybe as little as 1% every 5 hours.
It seems clear, that some system processes run draining the battery, but stop at 7%.
With the works drain, the phone could drain to 7% in one day and still stop. I did also notice that the worst drain happens shortly before a OTA update on each phone. The Device Management process is one I cannot disable or even stop does the updating. It does no show up in battery stats.
Can anybody confirm drains from Device Management or other completely locked system apps that might drain until 7%.

Notice sharp dips in battery life, some better curves, even in airplane mode, it still drained, but at the end starting at 7% the phone hardly drains.
I do see the phone wake a lot, but betterbattery stats does not show signification wakelockes.
GSam Battery monitor is the only program to successfully tell me what is causing a drain.
Here, at the initial drain I looked in Gsam and it showed twlauncher eating 70% of the battery. I cleared the data and force-stopped it it and was happily surprised to find that I now only drained 1% every 3 hours. I notice something that surprised me. When the launcher re-started it fist showed me messages, then contacts than the system manager application with the option do disable diagnostics which I did, but that alone was not the issue since I have not been able to reach such low battery drain even with diagnostics disabled.
I don't know why it awoke so much and drained later as better battery stats did not show any wakelocks over 1 minute (forgot to take a screenshot)
Later on GSam told me that the phone app itself was draining battery, after 1 call and text message, and once I killed it I once again had great battery life at 3 hours per 1% until it started draining again.
Has anybody here noticed or figured out the 7% issue. Is there something in the stock rom that stops at 7%, and is there a way to stop it without a new rom.
I have searched and did not find any references regarding the 7% issue I have with every phone.
Thank you.

This is with the stock battery. The same behavior is seen or all 3 phones so I don't think the battery itself is at fault.
I would like to root 1, stop the stock apps like Device Manager and see if it helps, but I would prefer not to have to root all the phones.
Thanks again.

I am lucky to get a day out of my phone with the stock battery so I would be grateful of anything more. As far as hitting 7% my guess is it sustains that voltage the longest since that is it's end of battery.
I went ahead and rooted the phone.
The first thing I did was use App Quarantine to disable Device Management and many apps that I could not disable before.
Unfortunately, nothing changed and the phone still drains as before until if gets to 7%.
I am still trying, and I think I will need to try a different launcher soon.
I am very open to any suggestion you guys may have.
Thanks.

[SOLVED] Extreme Battery Drain after Update

After the 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware update my battery has been draining extremely quickly. Today it went from 100% to 25% in 6 hours with the device in airplane mode. When I look at the battery usage in Settings it says that Google Play Services used 63% of the battery. I Googled this and I saw that there was an battery drain issue with Play Services that was fixed with ver 4.1. Well, I have ver 4.2. The other high item in battery usage is labeled Media using 27%. I did not use the phone for anything, it sat idle in airplane mode.
I'm also getting random vibrations. Sometimes when I'm holding the phone it will give a quick vibration notification. I don't know where that is coming from.
I initially did the OTA with the device rooted that resulted in some severe problems. So, I unrooted and reflashed it with SEUSS. So, that should have totally wiped the device and put a fresh image on it. I have no other problems other than this extreme battery drain.
Anybody have any clues? Anybody else seeing this?

I used my phone pretty heavily today and still have 11% left... I plugged it in about 2 hours ago long enough to grab some pictures off of it...
I'm unsure why Google services went nuts... oh and I had my screen on full brightness for an hour or more while working on a project outdoors in bright sunlight...

Huh this is not a battery drain issue.
Wipe the batterystats.bin and charge again to 100% without disconnecting the phone. Use it and voilà. (You can use Battery Calibration from NéMa in the Play store)
This will calibrate your battery. I suggest you do it after ant ROM flash or OTA update.
Root required to wipe stats.
Wow, I thought I had this problem licked but it resurfaced again today. Since my first complaint I factory reset the phone and reinstalled everything again. I have been running fine for days since then. But, then today.... same problems. With the phone in airplane mode most of the time I get the following:
I think I figured out the problem. I have a 64GB Micro SD that I had pretty full with music. I've used it without problems for at least 6 months in my Xperia before the update. After the update I noticed an extreme battery drain and it reported that "Media" was using an unusually high amount of resources. So, I removed the card and now I get phenomenal battery life using Stamina. If I don't actively use the device it will only drain less than 1%/hour. Not bad under heavy use also.
I've been out of town since all this started and I haven't had a chance to reformat my MicroSD. I am hoping that if I reformat and slowly add back in some media that it might not reoccur.
I disabled Google crap (plus, maps, play services, magazines, books, movie studio, sync adapters for contacts, calendar, Chrome browser etc). Both me and my wife get approx 5 hrs of screen time (1day + from 100% to 15%) with moderate usage, (WiFi always on, 3g/WCDMA preferred, no sync). It's Google services that run in the background, cause wakelocks and drain battery.

about 5% lost per night
WiFi always on, whatsup, maildroid checking one imap mailbox for every 120 mins (set to wake up the phone), ok google OFF, now cards OFF, backup-ing OFF. Steady about 5% (4-6%) per night.
Now, I flashed factory image 7.0.0. everything stock. Then I flashed boot.img with disabled encryption and formated data and cache. Everything is as it is described above expect for the maildroid has NOT been even installed yet.
And that's what I get second night in a row (rebooted, cache wiped from recovery mode before leaving the phone):
23% eaten for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
What even worse, even android itself does not know what it was doing that it ate so much battery because the percentages does not add up for the whole drain.
After so many time invested into this phone for getting pure stock 7.0 unencrypted I just feel exhausted and want to throw this phone out of the window.
I'd appreciate a right direction for figuring out what drains the battery.
Yeah battery blows with nougat. Significant Google play services drain mainly bet scheduler. Had somewhat similar with MM but was able to really calm it down with Power Nap, bit since Xposed is not out yet for N....I'm nandroiding back to MM too.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app
I downgraded to MM, and it became normal. The next day I missed the quick switching between the last two opened apps and I flashed N again))
Actually, this night it drained 8% what is kinda OK. What I additionally did was that I disabled under google account sync everything except for the contacts and calendar. Also I activated data saver and added only whatsup there. Wifi was on all night, but he phone did not seem to be waking up during the night at all, what is good because I didn't need it to be doing anything except for idling in case someone calls for emergency. So, I guess after some hard tweaking and disabling things I can cope with N, but mostly for the sake of awesome interface features.

Just give it sometime...things are settling in...so a lot of time play services and stuff also go crazy...also apps are getting updated as well...give it a week or so...things will be better
I had this sort of issue on DP5 after a while but clean flashing MM stock and then re-OTAing to N seemed to fix it for me and I'm back at 5-6% overnight.
I honestly think there is a bug in there somewhere, whether its Google services or what i've no idea as my battery stats didn't seem to add up to the drain I was seeing. I had a similar weird drain before on MM too which a wipe sorted out.
give the system some time to settle in. i upgraded to N the day it came out and after giving android a few days i recognize no major difference in performance or battery life, even though things like Force Doze are incompatible now.

I went back to MM not because of the idle drain, infact, I had no drain but the SOT sucks... Like 2-3 hours instead of 4-5 on MM. Maybe I'll wakt until Xposed it compatible again...
Hi, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I posted about an issue with the screen, which is battery related as well. Actually when idle I have almost no battery drain (up to 2% per night). I have screenshots prepared (even worse than what I've already described), but as already mentioned I don't have enough posts in order to be able to post them here.
Is this an issue with the screen, battery or OS? The device is new with the OTA Nougat update.
How exactly did you downgrade to Marshmallow? I'd like to know because my 5X drains battery like crazy without doing anything on 7.0
