3rd Party Steel Bands - Moto 360

Hey Guys,
Here are too many questions and answers, so I can't find the right. I want to use a 3rd Party Steel Band. Witch One can I use without damaging the back of my Moto 360? And how can I protect the back?

Moto 360 with Pebble Steel Band (Mod Needed?)

So I am looking to put on the metal band for the Moto 360. Have people sorted out how to stop the cracking on the back due to the band? Is there a mod we can do to ensure this does not happen. Perhaps modify the pebble steel to limit it hitting the part of the plastic. I would love to hear peoples ideas on the matter.
You might want to read the long thread about pebble bands. This has been a part of that discussion.

I saw them, some people are talking about a mod that is needed to work with people that have small wrists. The issue is I can not find people outlining the mod they did
There is no mod for the pebble steel band. That post that you saw was about the Trufol band which is made for the pebble steel. That individual simply removed the thickest links on the end in order to make it fit.
Generally speaking your options are to either mod the Moto 360 by removing the tabs inside of where the band is attached to the watch or to modify the band so that it can work around the tabs. The standard Pebble Steel band fits on the watch without modification but puts you at risk of cracking, but most if not all bands do.

Debating a Moto360...

First time I have considered Android Wear. Is this watch worth the $250? Should I look into other any other watches? This seems to be the most reliable watch from what I read and more covered in the dev community.
I randomly jumped the gun. I just went to best buy and remembered that moto 360 was quite a seller. So I just bought one since I have 14 days to return. After almost 2 days, I actually like it. I did update my 360 but battery life to me isn't that good... Might be cause I was constantly on it though. I use Google a lot so it's convenient to me. Don't know what else to tell you, it's all personal preference

I love mine, but I would caution one thing:
If you're fine with a leather band, go for it.
If you want a metal band, I would wait for the official metal band and not use a third party watch band.

Leather should be okay if the leather is good quality. Does the official metal band come with the 2nd gen Moto360?

There will be an official metal band sometime in November for the first Gen Moto 360.

Is it worth the $250 from a geek standpoint? Will the new toy buzz wear off quick? I do use Google apps frequently but will this watch make me end up using my phone anyway? Just trying to justify $250 for a watch.
I enjoy looking at my watch when I get notifications. Keeps me updated quickly rather than looking at my phone. I like the GPS notification, tells me my next direction on my watch. The apps made me like my watch more (mini launcher, pixtocam, 2048, keep, music, reddit, and wear speaker). I merge my sms with my Google hangout so that I can reply with voice on my watch. when you click the Regular samsung messenger app it just opens the app but that requires unlocking the phone before it opens.

The decision is for you to make and nobody could help you out of that!

Seems like silly advice. Plenty of people have had luck with third-party bands that cost a small fraction of the ridiculous price Motorola is going to charge for the official one (which no one has yet, so how do you know it will be any better for you?)

Well, I've got 3 cracks on the back of the watch that Motorola will not replace because I changed the watchband. So your mileage (and advice) may vary....
And for clarity purposes, the 360 with the metal band will retail for $299, and the band will be sold separately for $79.99. They announced this and showed it off at launch.
This photo will demonstrate why they recommended waiting:

That steel band puts no pressure on the underside.

Is the watchband the cause of the cracks? Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with all of the "cracked back" threads. I was just saying it's not been released / seen in person. If your recommendation was because of the cracking / warranty issue, then I take back my ridiculing of it.

I saw the press release. THat's a ridiculous price markup for a band, and my point was it hadn't been released. You're recommending something you've only ever seen in pictures.

The point of contact for all bands is the pins, I fail to see how the shape / design of the band would make any difference, but I'm willing to be wrong.

There are folks who are experiencing cracks who have not switched bands and their return experience has been mixed. The poll elsewhere in this forum seems to suggest that those with steel bands (and skinny wrists) seem to be having the most problems with the back of the watch.
However, Moto is now starting to send emails that say if you switch bands, they will not honor your return request.

I simply recommended he wait if he wanted a steel band, It wasn't based on price or aesthetics - simply the warranty issue.
The difference in the Moto band and most other steel bands, is the pressure that the end of the band puts on the plastic lip that protrudes on the back of the watch. The Moto band's first flexible joint is outside of the circular watch, and thus puts no pressure on the plastic back. The first flexible joint of the pebble steel is directly under the plastic lip and may be the cause of some of the reported cracking.
Just out of curiosity.... how does Moto know if you replaced the band? I mean, if you send it in for warranty, coudln't you just put the stock band back on?
Thanks for all the info though. Interesting stuff.

Where can i buy the original back cover ?

When i bought the phone it was available only with the silver back, but i wanna a black back.Where can i buy the original cover in black color?
There is already another thread here asking the same thing.
They don't seem to be available yet, but there are 3rd party ones w/o NFC.

OEM vs. 3rd Party Bands?

Hey everyone.
So I've now been on the hunt for a replacement band for my Moto 360 (1st gen). There's nothing wrong with the current band (grey leather band it came with), I'm just really looking for a steel band.
I've looked around on Amazon and have seen very nice looking Milanese loops and traditional steel bands, however I've read that 3rd party bands could potentially interfere with the radios of the device and possibly even cause damage? I don't mind paying the (albeit a little expensive) 79 GBP on Motorola's website for the OEM steel band if it means it will be better for the watch, but I mean it's more than I paid for the watch itself (97 EUR). I've also seen you can install 'generic' bands which are made for normal watches. Is this the case? Any pros / cons going for that option?
I've also seen on the forums that some people have managed to crack the plastic shell on the back of the watch trying to replace the band. Is this something that happens easily, meaning is the shell very fragile, or do you really need to be a goof to crack it?
Post links for cool bands (must be deliverable to the UK) if you have any, and pics of your current setup!
Cheers :good:
[EDIT]: So these are the third party bands I've found online that I quite like:
- Rerri Band: I'm doubtful of how customizable this band is in terms of removing links.
- Truffol Strap: Looks great, however it is not specifically designed for the 360....

Need a new band

Hi fellow forum members. I've had my moto 360 1st generation for 2 years now. I noticed yesterday that my leather band is splitting apart. The watch still works fine, so I'd hate to shell out $200 for a new watch. Back when I first purchased the watch Motorola sold official "dodo" leather straps on their site, but it seems that they're no longer available. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good replacement band that won't break the bank? Thanks
Amazon or eBay maybe they have them

You should have looked at the other posts in this sub-forum; about 1/3 of them already discuss 3rd party watch bands for the Moto 360.
