Hi,
I'm trying to decide if I should buy new USB C cables (I'm trying to find ones that are at least 6 feet long as I have a long way from my desk at home and work to the outlet) and was wondering if I should just try to get the adapters that convert my existing micro USB cables that do the job very well and go that route or do I have to go out and re-buy the whole USB C cables again? The cost for new cables is about double what it is for the adapters. Any advice would be most appreciated.
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Nekteck-Connector-Resistor-Supported/dp/B017GSYD92?th=1
The adapters I was looking at on Amazon are the following (even a 2 pack is only $7.99 which would do very well for my purposes.
Thanks in advance.
i'd say go for a charger with a longer cable rather than have it stuck to the wall in an awkward manner. something like this https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charge-Charger-PowerPort-PowerIQ/dp/B017JT6846/
and plenty others of the likes of it. using adapters is more of a short termed thing for now, especially if you have multiple devices that uses different ports.

Thank you for the advice. I was hoping to use the same cables for multiple devices rather than having specific cables for specific devices. As these adapters were approved by Benson Leung I went ahead and ordered the 2pack. Still cheaper than one USB C cable.
Took me awhile to figure out who Benson was - sounded real familiar but I haven't kept a note back then since I didn't use the new USB C then.
There's also the article about how QC3 is above USB C's standard and not sure if that's how the fast charging works too. fingers crossed it doesn't affect the charging rate.
I've got an adapter off aliexpress but mostly just for quick file transfers. They have quite the assortment there too.
i got these cables which work fine, and this card charger (orange one)

I received this in the mail yesterday. Plugged it in. It's amazing and simple. Allows quick charging and has no issues whatsoever. Really great adapters.

I bought the ones from Amazon because they were reviewed and approved by Benson. These look exactly like the ones I bought and they're a 3-pack. I'm just worried that if they haven't been approved that they'll fry my device.
That can be a problem. The first time I plugged one in I had Ampere running to see what kind of juice was flowing and it was about the same as the stock cable. I periodically check it and it is doing fine.
I ordered a these off Amazon a few weeks ago and they've worked flawlessly with everything I've used them for so far. I'm using a couple on my portable chargers which had built in micro usb cables, and I've also used a couple for some OTG thumbdrives and haven't had a single issue yet. You get 10 for $10 (plus shipping and mine was only $1.50) and I'd say it's a pretty awesome deal considering they're basically just dollar each. Anyway here's the link...

I got this direct from china, come in a pair for little over USD 2, both is made of solid metal, works as a data transfer from cable and OTG, along with charging.

I figured we could use a thread where people could post good deals on micro usb cables or just good micro usb cables that are proven to work on the EVO.
I picked up one of the Blackberry cables. It has the molded in Blackberry logo and it works well for charging/data and it is cheap. However, the insulation isn't very flexible so I imagine it will be fairly stiff in a cold car in winter. Example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150487513418&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I have also used the Nokia sync cables with partial success. I had one with my last Nokia phone that worked great, very high quality cable, and great flexible insulation. However, when I sold my Nokia phone and the cable with it, I bought a replacement cable off of Ebay and strangely enough, data worked but it wouldn't charge. So, I can only recommend these with a little bit of reservation. Look for the ones that have a cord detangler on them (CA-101). Example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/CA-101-USB-Data...031540?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item35acb861f4
The stock HTC cable has decent flexible insulation but the ends seem a bit flimsy. Anyone find where to buy more of these cheap?
Let's try to avoid the cheap non-branded cables in this thread unless you can attest to their quality.
I figure I should post here because I'm in need of a cable too.
A strange note on a "Blackberry" cable I got from Amazon, this one here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QATRCA/ref=oss_product
This cable seemed to work fine for me, my phone would show it is charging in AC mode when I was plugged into the wall charger, and data transfers fine across it. I did break one of the tiny plastic tabs that holds the micro side connector together, and it split open, but it is just two rectangular plastic halves that I taped back together. Everything seems to work fine on the cable, except when I charge the phone, I could swear it was charging SLOWER than my other cables.
Sure enough, after using Current Widget and testing with various cables, it was in fact charging at a LOWER current and charging SLOWER than all my other cables.
It just so happens that my OEM cable got bent at the micro usb side connector, and after trying to mess around with it the cable works but if you mess with it too much it disconnects.
I'm using a cable from my palm car charger, and that works fine.
I'm planning on buying one of the monoprice ones, they have nice gold plated ones for around $1.50 plus shipping. If anyone has any words to say about the longer cables (6ft) and the ferrite cores, it would be great to hear if there's any difficulties with those.

I've been using a Palmpre cable.
Anyone no of of any 90 degree cables that point down (towards the back of the phone). I figure a 90 degree cable would work well for a car mount. I found one source but $16 seems a little pricey for a micro usb cable.
I got these cables with the car charger (actually shows up as AC ~1A charging too) and also comes with a home charger. Like the retractable/adjustable length on these since they don't get all tangled around my dash. Check them out $4.50 is a steal for these.

Do you get 1amp charging from these?
I got the 6 ft one, it works great, 1 amp charging, solid click when using it, best cable out there.
I again recommend monoprice...best place for cables.
I've been using all of my extra Palm Pre cables with no problems. Found a 6-in-1 USB cable at Five Below that charges the Evo, Hero, iPod, Nintendo DS & some other stuff. Can't comment on how fast or slow it charges compared to other chargers but for $5 you can't beat it.

I have to recommend the monoprice cables as well. I got the 6 foot micro usb cable with ferrite core. With the HTC wall charger (TC U250) and the monoprice cable, I get 776-908 mA charging speeds. That's about 100-125 mA faster than the the HTC wall charger and stock cable that came with it.
Just looked at Monoprice due to this post. My my, such inexpensive cables! And myriad customer reviews say they are of good quality, sturdy, connections are strong, charges faster, etc. Thanks for alerting us to this site! Definitely gonna purchase myself some cables now. What a steal.
Does anyone know if these cables, or the one supplied with the phone, can be used with different, well, don't know how to name it... the thing you plug into the wall and the USB plugs into. The AC/DC adapter or something maybe? Yeah.
Retesting the monoprice cables, i get current output from 484-900 mA.

Ya, no reason why it wouldn't work with other ones, its just a USB cable. You can even use them to sync data between your phone and computer, just like any other USB cable.
You can always get a OEM one for a little more or about the same price. That's what I do. But the Samsung and Blackberry ones work well with the Evo.
Check out this if you want a retractable cable. We bought about 15 of these for people in my office.

I bought an extra wall charger and usb cable off of amazon and the wall plug is identical to the one that came with my Verizon Galaxy Nexus but the cable is a really stiff cable. I want a cable like the one that came with my phone, it's very soft and very flexible and doesn't hold it's shape. The phone is so lite that on my desk at work, the cable actually moves my phone since the cable is so stiff.
THIS IS WHAT I DON"T WANT(with the slanted tip)............................THIS IS WHAT I WANT in at least a 5 foot length, like the OEM one.

Does your cable look like the picture I posted above with the slanted micro end, or is it a shiny black cases at the end with a white USB logo? Because the listing shows both pictures. Also how long is it. The one that came with our phone is around 5 feet long, most of the ones I've seen are about 3 feet long.
The main reason I want the original is because it's very flexible and doesn't hold it's shape. The one I pictured is very stiff and does hold it's shape, which is annoying on my desk.
I also updated my first post with an image of what the cord looks like that I do want.

I've used MonoPrice mini and micro USB cables on my phones for years. They're fine. They probably aren't what the OP wants though as they are stiffer than the cable that comes with the phone.
Thanks for the post, OP. Dog chewed my OEM cable in an uncharacteristic bout of naughtiness so I'm looking for a new one too.

I see that the N72 charger is only 1.35a. I thought that the N71 charger was 2a, but I could be mistaken and am too lazy to run upstairs and check.
Either way, I'm sure I have some 2a USB charger lying around the house somewhere, or could get one for a few bucks on Amazon. I'm not sure if that's just a suggestion or is actually required. I think it comes down to how much energy your device can draw. I imagine that, unlike a directly plugged in device, using wireless chargers will result in a slower charge cycle as a larger amount of the energy is lost, so it probably needs to be greater than what it normally uses. I know that, in general, you can use a higher mA output than what is required, as the device will only draw what it can/needs, but not sure about how wireless works in this regard.

I've followed a few reviews on this one since I have the S4 and was considering picking up the whole kit. The ones that mentioned trying another charger stated it didn't work. Wireless charging does work a bit differently since you lose some energy transferring the power to the induction coil.
I don't have time to source the reviews right now, but that might point you in the right direction.

This QI charger seems to be made to fit a Galaxy Phone. The edges seem to be tapered and possibily not allow the N7 to fix flush thus no charging. 50% off sounds like a good idea but it is a waste of money if it doesn't work.

Sold. This is dirt cheap for a quality Qi Charger. The mat seems larger then depicted on the Samsung Website and it doesn't show the "cloth-like" top. Anyway, confirmed working. Can't wait.

This pic is what made me want to look up the Samsung wireless charger... Then I found the promo! Glad I was able to help!
just a heads up guys, searching across my multiple chargers in the house as a previous user mentioned the hp touchpads charger is 2.0a as well as the first gen nexus 7. As far as I can see motorola, htc, lg and even the new chromecast chargers are lower than 2.0a and thus not good for this pad.
After messing with some cheap wireless chargers on Ebay and getting the slow charging I said screw that and bought two Tylt wireless chargers for $35 each at a T-Mobile store. Not all stores have them and it took the manager some time to even find the SKU to check inventory at stores. The SKU is SUPM39575. Happy with the Tylt since it's made well and you just place it on and it charges fast enough. Some chargers are picky with the G3 but the Tylt doesn't require any sweet spot to charge. Amazon and Micro center carry the Tylt but it probably cost more.
Tylt probably works with most cases. It does with my Nillkin. I haven't tried with my Insignia case yet.
You need a sticker for wireless charging. I got mine from this thread (thanks iazybandit). Not sure if he has anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/accessories/feeler-buy-qi-nfc-sticker-t2827738
Also you can get them from this place in China. Not sure if Ebay has any yet.
Tylt has a light at the bottom and turns green when charging. If it turns red pull it off and put back on.

Picked up one today. Called 3 different T-Mobile stores. The one I happened upon that I didn't call had them. Only bought one since I already have a Nokia one.
I used the Tylt Vue with my Nexus 5 and absolutely loved it. It's just been sitting on my nightstand the past month until I could figure out how to get wireless charging to work with my G3.
I finally ordered THIS BACKPLATE that finally arrived and after installing it wireless charging is working great!
Tmobile have it for $35? I called two stores and they say it's $70.

Price shows up at checkout.
Thanks for this tip. I had to call around about 5 locations but found one with two in stock. They also had a buy two get one free on accessories so I ended up with a external battery pack for free.
Damn. I wonder why the manager didn't tell me about the buy two accessories get one free. I don't really need another accessory though. Lol
I got them at 35.00 in Chicago 2 days ago.
Using the Tylt Vu with my D851, works flawlessly and charges at full speed. Very happy.

I think that promo is over, just tried and they showed up as 69.99 each. 52.70 after the 25% off back to school promo code. I ended up buying two from Amazon for 59 each (no tax, free 2-day shipping).

I just bought from a place near Chicago and they actually have discount stickers on them, with $34.99 on the front (the original price sticker on the back).
What sort of speed are you getting with charging? It seems to me that it charges a fair bit slower than I was getting with my USB charger.
That said, I have never used the LG charger. I've been using the 2A charger from my Note 2 and the 1.8 blackberry charger that was spoken of highly by a member here.

You should see about 20-25% an hour. This is what I get with mine.
I saw it for $70 I had no idea they were marked down looks like I'll pick one up tomorrow then!
I just ordered a gold battery cover whoop whoop.

Can't find them for $35 here in NYC at all. Nor on T-Mobile's website.
It charges as fast as the wired charger for me.

I think that's about what I'm getting.. but I'm sure I was getting much quicker speeds with the wired charger. I'm going to do some tests over the next few days to see for sure.

Wow, you just missed it. These were on sale for 50% off direct from Tylt. They were selling them for $35. Site now show all sold out, sorry. Alternatively you can get one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Wireless-Charging--Shipping-Distributed/dp/B00LE6X5VU/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1417572633&sr=8-11&keywords=qi+charger
Its a Vu clone but works just as well. I also own this version and really they work the same. Highly recommend it as well.
Did you guys get the sticker or a complete new back cover? Wondering which would be the better route (price aside).

I bought a back replacement from Korea total cost was $26 from eBay. Best investment so far. At the time all sellers for the stickers did not have any in stock would have loved to save some money but I'm content and know this is LG made. Get yourself a quality qi charger too. I was lucky and walked into a T-Mobile store in Edison NJ while I was working and they had 2 Tylt Vue chargers on sale for $35. Works flawlessly. At another T-Mobile store in Astoria NY they had on display the new Samsung qi charger for their S6 and it was only able to slow charge my G3. Same thing at a bestbuy too only slow charging on the S6 qi charger.
I ended up getting a complete back cover. Also bought a red Tylt off Amazon's Warehouse Deals. Pretty excited! Just got my phone in today, rooted, put in krowley3's "cleanrom". Loving the phone so far.
so i picked up a V20 and had Speck Presidio Clear case installed on it right away at ATT store ...
when i came home and decided to charge the phone i realized that the cutout for USB cable in the Presidio case fits the original LG cable EXACTLY. there isn't even a fraction of a millimeter of space between the cable and the case on ANY side of the cable - it is a perfect fit. and that's a problem.
it's a problem because rather than designing the case for a variety of cables it was designed specifically for one - the original cable. i want to pick up some extra Type C cables but if they're even slightly bigger than the original LG cable plug in ANY direction ( height or width ) they won't fit ...
so what are some decent Type C cables that have plugs smaller than ( or identical to ) the one on the cable V20 comes from ?
You could always mod your case. I'll be modding my cases because the headphone jack opening isn't big enough for either of my CIEM cables.

These are pretty slim USB-C Cables. The Zinc housing is almost the exact size of the port opening.

i recommend you just get a short Bose extension cable from Amazon - it has a super thin plug and a really nice quality. i have been using mine for about 2 years but i'm very careful with my gear - it probably won't last this long with normal use - it is quite delicate.

great pics. i assume the white cable you held them next to is the one that comes with V20. in that case definitely they would fit the opening in any case that fits the original cable.
the reviews on Amazon are not the best though, and the 5 star reviewers admit to being paid to write them.
once again, appreciate the pics. full disclosure though - i am a perfectionist - that means i can't simply accept something that works, i must keep searching until i find the best.
this is an option.
I also purchased this brand of cable. They received high marks and can confirm they are slightly smaller than original cable jacket.
This is the cable.
However, I purchased a three pack that is, curiously, not available any longer.

i used a different app but the bottom line is current with screen off is much higher than with screen on. unless your measurements were with screen off they are ultimately meaningless.
i ordered from amazon, received and tried out :
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WJSPFOW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this cable is a bit pricey at $10 for a single 6 foot cable but so far it's perfect - the plug is more or less identical in size to the original plug, just with rounded corners and shorter. and it clicks into the port on the V20 with about the same feel as the original cable.
to me it's a keeper, i plan to buy a second one in a few days time after i had some more experience with this cable, since it's no rush.
only downside to this cable that i can think of is that it's not a USB 3.0 or 3.1 cable - only 2.0 ...
belkin also makes 3.1 cable that my guess is would plug in the same, but it's a thicker cable, more expensive, but most importantly only 3 feet long and i wanted a 6 foot long cable.
well, another downside is that for how thin the cable is - it isn't particularly flexible and has a lot of memory to the shape ... but overall, as i said, i still plan to buy a 2nd one ...
it feels stupid to make a YouTube video about a USB cable, but i also had some other accessories picked up for the V20 - namely Case, Screen Protector, Memory Card and Portable 10,000 mah charger so i think i will have to do some sort of a combined video to cover all this stuff then it won't feel as stupid to me.
EDIT: looks like i can finally post links and probably attachments too ...
Definitely should get a good flexible cable. That should be the portable one. The other for home. I'm sticking with Anker adapters for now. I did buy one USB c cable for data transfer to take advantage of the internal UFS storage. You'll be fine with 2.0 for micro SD.
