Looking for a dark substratum theme - Moto Z Play Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hello, I tried a few substratum themes but they have a lot of black text over a black background.
Anyone got a good one for the stock rom?

I am using Swift Black theme. It's really good.

I was using swift dark, but I had a lot of black over black notifications, the worst one on my emails. The whatsapp layer is not so good as well. Is the black one ok for you?

I use the Swift Dark one

How did you enable themes on the stock rom?

You have to install an app called Substratum. It's on the play store.

Yes I am using Swift Black theme and my Gmail notification looks pretty well. Can't say anything about WhatsApp because I am using GBwhatsapp so I doesn't apply theme for WhatsApp.
I can post Screenshots if you need one !?

i installed the unofficial TWRP from the forums here, the non-chinese version. and then i flashed the phh superuser because I read somewhere else that it worked with the non-chinese TWRP. So I gained root, but substratum just wouldn't work. I believe I went looking for the files with root explorer to try and give it r/w permissions but it still didn't work.
I've been trying to find a step-by-step guide for how to get it to work on the Z Play but no luck

Phh's root doesn't allow substratum APK to write to the system, I had the same issue.
I reflashed the system and flashed the Chinese TWRP which finally allowed me to gain full root access. Or try to do a factory reset and flash the Chinese twrp

and you would have to do an entire system re-flash to get full-root with chinese twrp? I couldn't just flash the chinese TWRP without doing a factory reset and get it to work? and with the chinese twrp, do i just flash the superSU TWRP provides, or is there another file i would need to flash?
thank you for all your help.

I've have flashed the stock firmware 6 times now. I originally flash phh's root and had the same issue you had, substratum wouldn't theme at all.
I believe I tried to flash the Chinese TWRP and root that way and I believe the SuperSU binary file couldn't be installed.
You need to remove phh's root completely, just not the APK but unroot completely.
Doing a full factory reset should remove the existing root method you used but it may not.
I've jumped through hoops getting this phone working the way I like my android devices to be.
I've never had so much trouble with any device.

thanks for the help. I definitely flashed the boot.img and the sparsechunks over but didn't do a complete reset so i'm wondering if it would work. I will have to give it a try later. and then with that method you were able to do systemless root to get android pay to work?

It's not seem less root as far as I know but there's xposed modules that might work, android pay isn't available in Canada ,so I'm not sure.
I would also fastboot erase userdata as well.
Make sure you set up a pin prior to rooting through the Chinese TWRP

well : I am also having trouble rooting COS 13 ...
I received a (new) Swift for a friend and when I flash SuperSU v2.46 from recovery, the phone reboots and only shows (forever):
Code:
cyanogen
mod
ready
I tried several custom recoveries (twrp 2.7 and 3.0 and CM-13.0).
To recover I needed to fastboot re flash stock.
Note that I could once root COS 12.1 on another Swift phone for another friend just fine.
So this seems a 13.0 specific issue. Perhaps how SuperSU handles Android 6.
Good news is I can take a TWRP backup. But I would also want to be
able to take Titatium Backup and do other things that require root.
Does this ring a bell?
Thanks for enlightening me how to root COS 13.0

Unfortunately this does not make a difference, system boot stays on cyanogen/mod/ready logo.
I had to recover back to TWRP backup.
Anyone who successfully rooted COS 13.0 please raise a hand ...
update (1)
I tried to hack my way around by putting recent CM 13.0 su binary in mounted system/xbin (+ symbolic link in system/bin) via adb shell TWRP, and now SuperSU starts, but: then finally I end up same situation as Lorddoener : supersu fails to update su (normal and twrp)...
Again: any help / ideas welcome

You have to unlock the bootloader too. Unblocking the bootloader will wipe your device.
As a rule of thumb, I always unlock bootloader on day one of purchasing my devices. (mostly Nexus or OP so far). This way you avoid potentially losing data.
Or u can download systemless xposed which will allow to turn on and off to use Android pay

root (access) is obtained via apps like SuperSU
xposed has nothing to do with root access - it is an additional framework allowing for low level modifications (like amplify, etc)
unlocking bootloader is always the first step, from there you can flash supersu (which is NOT just an APK file).
there's a number of threads about it that can explain it better than i.

One more question : is the warrantly lost after rooting ?

Is anyone using Magisk?

If so, can you post a little about the initial setup? If you want to change kernels do you have to resort back to stock each time?
I understand you need to be completely stock when you install it the first time, I assume with an unlocked bootloader?
I got magisk running smoothly. I can share if anyone wants.

I use Magisk on all Nougat roms. I haven't had any luck with "Chainfires" SuperSU v2.78 or any other version for that matter. I think the set up requires a couple more steps that just flashing a SuperSu zip like the one we are all used to but the benefits that come with Magisk are worth it and it just plain works. And if you use the Magisk manager you can also toggle SElinux on and off and turn root on and off for apps that require no root.. I have been on board since N hit and we has no working root accept for this, and once I used it I was hooked.

But I replaced the su with the phh super user from magisk.
I also did Franco kernel.

I flashed Magisk v 12, but not showing up in the Magisk manager app.
I'm on Google Pixel ROM(rooted), with SuperSU.
I thought that the installation guide on the Magisk site said that Magisk would over write SuperSU.

Magisk does not overwrite supersu, if it detects supersu it does not install it's own superuser version. It continues to allow the system use supersu.
If you want to use magisk and use magisk's su, then you'd need to use a rom that does not come rooted and then flash magisk.

A lot of apps won't work if they detect root, or if the SafetyNet won't pass. Android Pay is one of them, but a lot of banking apps, Pokemon Go, Mario Run, etc won't work.

The same charging bug still is present. I just through this up obviously I can't test this rom on your phone as I have Verizon model. I tested it on my phone but I used US csc codes so I really don't know how it will react on your phone. That being said I may not be able to answer connectivity issues and such. If anyone finds any issues using csc mods zip. You can always just flash the AP file and just use the supersu zip in the op in place of the Add csc root zip. This will give you a totally stock rooted Rom no tweaks or mods

He is not running a custom kernel he is running the kernel from the combination firmware which is a stock permissive kernel for engineering purposes.

Awesome can't get root access can't reflash with flashfire because of no root access so I can't even try to reflash and can't go back to the other rooted rom so I have to go back to stock and start all over again. Great

Rooting XA1 Ultra Oreo 8.0?

So I tried to root my XA1 Ultra, but without luck. The bootloader is unlocked and twrp is installed but root? From all the methods the internet gave me I only have one left to try (unless I oversaw something). I use Magisk Manager so my option is to either get the boot.img file for my phone and let it patch or flash the zip thru the recovery which needs a data wipe and I am tired of setting up my phone just to see that nothing happend (I mean I can ignore this point). But I guess that the encryption system (also in twrp) is my enemy.
My question is: Is there a solid way to root my devices? It is stock rom and has Android 8.0 NOT 8.1.
thx
Flashing magisk zip file should not requirer a data whipe.
I have never heard you should whipe data but when you install twrp you need to reformat your device.

Even with reformatting it said that it needs a custom kernel.
Hi there,
I'm looking for a ROM AOSP for my Sony xperia xa1 ultra
I would like to manipulate fonts and I think this is the best way to don't get a bootloop
I would feel really thankful if you could give me a link or whatever, I can't find it by myself
Thank you

I don't really know what exactly you want from but I can only say where I downloaded the firmware.

I tried su but it aborted. And I had twrp installed but now when I try to flash it, my phone is stuck in bootloop.
That was is exact method in my mind after installing twrp. But have you cleared it from bootloop?

And how did you install twrp? If you don't mind sending me twrp link for download

I only got twrp flashed once with fastboot. The twrp image was downloaded for probably the Android 7 version.
So is not for xa1-ultra g3221 oreo? And have you gotten your phone out from bootloop state?

It is not for oreo and I got rid of bootloop by flashing the stock firmware with flashtool
At least out from bootloop. Which site if you mind where you downloaded the stock room, because most of this sites claiming to have stock domains are not reliable.
