(cut and paste from the ota thread in the general section)
I have a problem. I couldn't apply the update by just accepting it as usual (it just rebooted into TWRP without updating), so I downloaded the OTA file and booted into TWRP to try installing it manually. It failed to flash, with TWRP reporting:
Package expects build fingerprint of asus/WW_Z008/Z008:5.0/LRX21V/2.19.40.12_20150612_4176_user:user/release-keys or asus/WW_Z008/Z008:5.0/LRX21V/2.19.40.13_20150623_6113_user:user/release-keys; this device has asus/WW_Z00A/Z00A:5.0/LRX21V/2.19.40.18_20150612_1182_user:user/release-keys
I'm mystified. How has my ZE550ML running 2.19.40.12 firmware managed to get the ZE551ML's 2.19.40.18 build fingerprint? And what should I do to correct this?
Solved
This was a problem with TWRP I think. I guess it is not built for the 550. I reflashed the stock recovery.img from 2.19.40.12 and was then easily able to apply the OTA.
Hi,
After running out of patience i unlocked boot loader on my RN 3 unofficially (SD VERSION), and flashed lineage OS, but i did not get VOLTE on it.
To fix that i flashed CM Firmware and VOLTE patch files (Still no VOLTE, ONLY LTE, then i rebooted to the phone, and now the bootloader has locked automatically.
I am able to root into TWRP, but not into EDL. I have an MIUI backup that i took, now that the bootloader is locked, will i be able to restore the backup through TWRP. There is an update of Lineage OS of 19th april, when i click on install it says the phone will reboot to recovery to install, my question is will the update be installed or not since the bootloader is locked, or if i install the update the phone might go into bootloop?? i don't want to take a risk.
Please help me if i should install the updates and whether it is possible to restore backup when the bootloader is locked.
Also, what should be done to get VOLTE Working on the existing ROM, i flashed CM firmware and Volte patch from the link (https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...t/volte-patches-nougat-based-cm-roms-t3509257)
Thank you
Thats the question, can "easily" install magisk on stock rom (.236) unrooted ? since magisk thread says that root is not necessary, its ask for stock boot img that cant be obtained w/o root

Never tried, but even though root may not be needed, unlocked bootloader probably is. Magisk non-system works by patching boot img... If you unlock bootloader you probably can use it.

You can unlocked bl by official Sony method, then flash recovery with adb. Boot to recovery and flash Magisk.
Backup ta - https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236
Unlock bl - https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader
Recovery img - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545588613
You can try flashing recovery within locked bl, but I don't think it would work.

So, if you was wondering it, no, cant flash it with locked bl.
At the moment Backup ta didnt work, will check that thread
And thanx the help, nice to have you on z1c forum :good:
perfect. thx! i was already wondering, if i had to downgrade my z1c in order to get the recovery back. but now, how i do i flash magisk from here?
when i try to flash, i get an error message saying, that the ftf is in sony elf32 format and that i need bootbridge from @AdrianDC to flash.
anyone ever did that or has a better idea?
just tried it now and ended up in a bootlop
It is many months after this post, but in case this helps anyone, here is the answer.
BootBridge method is pretty simple and it worked for me.
On an un-rooted device. (important)
Just rename magisk zip to "install.zip" put it in a folder called install.
Then with 7zip, create a zip-file, include the bootbridge folders, "META-INF" and "scripts" with the "install folder" you just created.
Then name it "anything_you_like.zip" and flash with TWRP
Basically Magisk is SuperSU alternative and provides SuperSU service for your device. ( roots it )
No problems for me at this point. Working on 14.5.A.0.270 and can also get working on 14.6.A.0.236 but have other problems related to getting compatible recovery on 236.
Eventually in recovery, system mount and unmount break for me, then other mounts eventually fail after trying to get Nanodroid working (My Goal to UnGoogle my Z1c) and can't wipe format or anything (only way to fix is reflash with flashtool)
Deodexed ROM seems to be necessary for Nanodroid and this is causing additional problems for me.
If I have to run with unlocked bootloader, I think AOSP may be a better starting point.

I know, its confusing to many. You can start by checking these threads:

I am on 9.5.19, unlocked, rooted, TWRP installed and have received update notice for 9.6.3.0, but do not want to update via OTA because will lose root, recovery (and maybe unlock?)
I believe after rooting, unlocking, and TWRP install, you need to download a version of the MIUI ROM you want without the included firmware. see here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/how-to/index-redmi-note-5-pro-miui-roms-t3816343
They dont have 9.6.3 listed so need to ask about that. Also not sure which version of ARB your phone has so you need to ask in above threads or if you have ADB installed can enter fastboot command: fastboot getvar anti
I've updated to 9.6.3 and don't see any relevant change in daily use. The bootloader is still unlocked but I've lost the changes in build prop for gcam installation. I was unrooted with no twrp (or rwrp) recovery installed
Here is firmware-less 9.6.3 version download: https://mirror.akhilnarang.me/MIUI/Global/Stable/

My RN5 Pro is unlocked, with twrp, magisk (rooted), and running MIUI 9.5.19. Xiaomi gave me 9.6.3 last night, and although I wasn't able to install the delta update that they gave me (twrp didn't do anything with it), after the reboot, it downloaded the full 9.6.3 ROM. I then told it to do the update and twrp successfully installed it. At that point, I ONLY lost twrp and I assume magisk. The bootloader was unaffected by the MIUI upgrade.
Easy enough to fix - boot to fastboot, and used 'fastboot boot twrp.img' to get the phone started in twrp recovery mode. Then I was able to use twrp to install itself permanently/properly into the recovery partition, install lazyflasher, flash magisk, reboot normal. Phone's back to rooting state using magisk, but now with MIUI 9.6.3. 5 minutes and done.

Hi all,
I have a mi max 3 with unlocked bootloader , twrp and magisk.
Now I see there is a ota to install , when I try to install it download then reboot to twrp , do somethink and then back to android but the ota was not installed.
Is there any way to update miui version with twrp from ota ?
thank's.
Recovery nijel8 supports OTA but does not read the date partition.
Chinese recovery sees the partition date but does not work OTA.
It's best to download the entire zip file and install it.
