My device (Nexus 5x) is on official Android 7, rooted and on latest TWRP.
When a small patch update arrives I click on reboot and install button. then devices powers off and goes to "custom recovery" by itself. So I press power off and turn the device back on, then I go to system update and check if everything is Okay, But after few hours I get the same update message again! after installing for second time I don't get the message again.
What is the point of your post?
That you get update again? Because it wasn't installed, you can't install official update when you have custom recovery, root etc installed...

Actually most of the time if you just have custom recovery it will install.
If you have modified boot, system, vendor then the partial OTA won't install.
If you got a FULL OTA (as in when you sign up for the beta releases) then it will install even with modified boot, system, vendor.

If not I think I should opt for beta releases I guess!

So i tried installing the OTA update manually and it did not work at all. After looking at the log installer it said that the identity of my phone had something called 4.4.2 release keys but was looking for 4.4.4 release keys, despite me having a kitkat rom installed. I will attach a screenshot when i get a chance. Am I running the wrong firmware.
BTW my phone is a converted google play edition from sense, non rooted, followed all the instructions at the time and even changed the CID when told at the time. No OTA update comes up on the system, so tried to install it manually.

You need to be on 4.4.4 to install lollipop.. So if you aren't do all the OTA updates, till you're on 4.4.4..
But if you are on 4.4.4 and you cannot install the OTA manually, you probably only have the wrong recovery installed.. So just download the RUU of 4.4.4 again, extract it and flash the recovery.img. Then you should have the right recovery and you are able to install the newest ota..

Thanks, realised the recovery issue. had the recovery for 4.4.2 installed, managed to manually install OTA update.
my CID is the gpe required one but I could never detect an OTA for download?

Recovery: ClockWorkMod
So, I probably did something dumb and I'm stuck on the boot animation which loops forever. I can get into Recovery and Bootloader. I previously had a working install of the ROM listed above but I thought I needed to regain root (apparently it is already rooted but that was turned off or something) so I downloaded the SuperSU file to the device and rebooted into Recovery. I installed the SuperSU and rebooted but now I have the problem. Please advice. This is my first time ever using a custom ROM and I had it working fine before I did this to myself...

I suggest flashing TWRP as CWM has not been updated for a long time. Once TWRP is on the phone, perform a full system wipe and re-install a custom ROM.

Thank you for your reply!
I was unaware that CWM was so out of date; it did work well before I tried to root an already rooted ROM. But I will try TWRP in any case. Still, I was hoping to solve this issue without wiping/reinstalling everything as I have data I want to preserve. If there is no way out of this mess except that, I will use ADB to get what data I can, then reinstall.
Hello guys,

It's never worked for me. The problem might be due to their DNS not working, so the update can't be requested. One other way would be to connect your phone to a power source and boot into recovery mode, there's an option for "download latest and recovery", which should install 9.0.1.169 on your device. Although this feature won't erase your device, it's wise to make a backup beforehand anyway.

I cleanly installed Xiaomi Eu rom, then got root access by flashing Magisk 24.3. The installation went smoothly. According to the Root Checker app, I have root access on my device. But when I try to modify a file in the system folder with the Root Explorer app, it won't let me do it and gives me an error message.

I don't know if I've missed something or I'm uninformed, but is it not possible anymore (or never was) to modify system files in Miui based roms?
Hmm... Try using FX File Manager
I highly recommend this File Manager!
Did you flash magisk directly using twrp? If so, that might be the problem.
See this post:

Yes I have flashed it using twrp and also from fastboot mode.
Never mind, I fixed it flashing (using TWRP) the MAKERW-STABLE-4.1.11.zip file from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-script-to-install-all-roms-via-twrp.4405061/

Download the rom and put it on the internal storage then go to the updater, 3 points at the top right, update file.
If this menu does not exist, tap several times on the center of the updater.
Does not work. Can not verify installation package error.
I tried also renaming it to update.zip and it did not help

Sometimes it's like that, try to change region while connected to Wifi and see if the update is offered to you.
I just updated my phone to ver 13.0.7.0 Then I got the new update MIUI14
Is it global version?
Yes
Mine is global as well and no update. Strange
I installed via an external link, not an over-the-air update
Is it fastboot or recovery rom? Care to share link?

well then, version 14 is rolling out slowly to our devices
Just found out that I have Amber and not Agate. Perhaps i would have to wait longer for MIUI14
