I haven't found any posts about this yet, not through T-MOBILE anyways. As you can see, I'm connected through my home wifi but I don't have an option to download anything? I'd rather it not update around 11pm - 4am as I have to be up for work at 5am and my phone is my only alarm. Is it downloading in the background through wifi and then I get the option to install when it's done or what? I've tried updating through LG bridge and there's no updates through that (Lg bridge updated to latest version as well.)
Anyone else getting this?
Just checked, I can confirm it.

Yes I got it too, I just finished installing it in my g5
And If you change the time manually to "12 am" you won't have to wait until the actual 11-4am time lol

I actually thought about doing that but I didn't want to screw anything up. I'll give it a try though!
Edit: It worked! updating now.
@CuhThooLoo @Vesnik what's the build no.?
Damn I just checked it for the hell of it and seen the update.....but unfortunately no longer have a PC so I can't go back to stock to take it
it must be 7.0 .....
i will wait for the flashable stock 20a rom or rooted tot files come out
Awesome. Nice surprise. I'm downloading it now!
Yeah the 12am trick worked. Downloading now.
anyone know where the update.zip downloads to? I have TWRP so was hoping to flash in there.
To anyone taking the update, are you guys rooted/have Twrp?

I tried but when it booted to TWRP I couldn't find the .zip. It wasn't in /cache like I was expecting.
I would wait it out a bit, with the anti rollback and unknown root ability it just seems like a leap to unknown ground. They (LG/Tmo) haven't locked it yet but could at any point.
I see it is ready, but can't download

Ah I see. You must change the date on the phone, not the update message.
Has the update improved camera performance at all? Does it snap any faster?
I will wait for root before making the jump. Any news on what(if anything) changed on the g5 specifically? Anything added or improved?
Anyone not seeing the update keep checking for update again and again .. i think it started showing for me after 10 attempts or so, then i toggled auto time off and changed the time to 2355 hrs = 11:55 pm now its downloading .. i did hear about some things breaking like wifi .. Fingers crossed will update soon ...
Update 1 - it was downloaded several times on my phone but after clicking restart and install, it suddenly goes back to showing "Your System is up to date, last checked xy:zv pm
Update 2 Seems you really need the battery to be 100%, leaving the phone plugged in wont help unless battery is 100%, i dont think it is a smart requirement, but it is what it is..the phone is updating now lets see...
Update 3 It has updated, dont see much changes, camera got nothing that i can say is improved, theming is a bit more complete with not of things going dark when you choose dark themes ... notifications still have white background, an eye sore...

I was wondering this as well as whether or not there's a way to disable updates so that it doesn't try to sneakily install at night

I stopped update notifications using the FOTAkill.apk method. If you google it you will see what i mean. I dont remember exactly where the file is...
My first impression of this update is that it is blazing fast! I'll let this result speak for itself...

just select "Do not show next time" and allow it...You won't be bothered anymore...Although i am not sure why is the app asking for permission...Have u denied any permission to the app or sumthin coz it should not ask u to grant permission for this...
I tried all the combinations and nothing changed. Still popping up. Same happens when Im taking picture with Facebook messenger, every time asks me if it can use the camera.
That's weird, I've never seen that before on my phone. Is that a built in Android thing or is it one of the Asus bloatware apps?

Perhaps its that antivirus that Asus included. I uninstalled that right away, as it let me do so.
What antivirus?! I didnt install any of that crap. I found that this happens on zenfone 5 and there is a fix for that.
EDIT. What is the latest firmware? System update tells me is the latest version installed but I thing it isnt.
EDIT 2. Yep there is a newer version available. Ill try to install it and see if its happening again

You may be waiting a while. The Lollipop exploit won't work with Marshmallow since MM root requires a modified boot image. Since the Vz bootloader is locked, there is no way to do this.
To anyone wanting to keep root, don't upgrade to 6.0 until the bootloader is unlocked.

I updated and my phone has been stuck on the red Verizon screen for the past half an hour is this normal?
Updated and my phone would just shut off while the screen is off. Not sure if there's a rogue app or what. I'd hate to do a factory reset.
Correction, it doesn't shut it off but it would take me multiple times to hit the power button to wake up the phone.
Downloading now.....
Anyone successfully update yet? I'm downloading now.
Thanks for the heads up. I just blocked the updater. I'll wait for the reviews to filter in before deciding to give up root.

Update downloads, phone restarts, installation reaches about 4%, then a error pops up. The phone then restarts with a message in the notification center that the update has failed. Curiously, in the System updates menu, it shows:
LAST SYSTEM UPDATE:
Software not updated to 24C
Failed - February 16, 2016 at xxxxxx
Error code: 402

Thanks for the update. I got impatient and went for it... at 34% of 2/2. Will update when complete/failed/bricked/smashed.
EDIT: Update went smoothly and quickly. I've been on Marshmallow all of 2 mins so we'll see...
had an issue with mms not sending, performing a factory reset, i'll keep you guys posted
My update failed, even tho I unfroze everything. I did not unroot.
i think it was the photo, not the fact that i reset it, but mms is working fine. also the phone seems to be very fast.

Im trying to learn more too. If all of us newbies here learn more we can maybe come up with some of our own cool stuff for MM once it comes out. I love my phone but it would be so much nicer if we had alot of things to flash and play around with.

So when I make a backup with TWRP I get 2 boot files, boot.emmc.win and boot.emmc.win.md5. Once the update for MM comes out would either of those help or am I looking in the wrong direction? Is there a place that could point me in the right direction?

I can't find the source but I've read that this is the cause. I would update if you haven't and see if the drain ceases.
I need a bit of help here. I "unrooted" via the Super SU app. Rebooted, tried to update. Still failed. I also have lost root. Super annoying. Is there anything else that the updater is expecting that i haven't restored???

You both need to download the full factory image. Then edit the flashall.bat file and remove the -w to save data and apps. That will flash everything except data and apps.
Then re TWRP and re root.

So i finally got around to doing this today. Removed the -w from the flash-all.bat. it wiped the device anyway:
Also, search for updates, says it's up to date already with security patch level: December 5, 2016. Clearly this isn't the case. So frustrating..
.
Are there any good roms that do away with this auto update garbage?

January 5th is the latest update, you're still one update behind. Any ROM will do away with the OTAs. The 2 most popular out right now are Dirty Unicorns and PureNexus. I ran both on my 6P and while very different, both are top notch with awesome developers. I'm still somewhat convinced it's a background OTA process since you're not on the newest patch. Also go to settings-google and make sure nothing is stuck trying to sync in the background. If it has completed all checked syncs, it will have a time stamp.
I have the device rooted, Magisk (Zygisk) running. I'm not looking to re-flash or update, just want to get rid of this message from popping up. How do I completely disable this message? Is there firewall settings? Build.prop?
Thanks,

When this has been asked before in the last three weeks in this section since Android 13 came out, I don't think anyone suggested a solid definitely working answer. My answer, I doubt if you can make it go away, and I doubt if you can keep from installing it for very long.
Have you tried disabling the "Automatic system update" setting in the Developer options menu?
I never usually see these messages, however, I usually manually update my device within the first two weeks of a new update dropping. However, I may surpass that time frame this time around due to numerous family events. Therefore, I will let you know if I end up seeing this message pop-up on my device in the near future.

That is indeed what used to happen.
There have been several reliable reports that those who were rooted on Android 12 Stable got the OTA for Android 13 Stable (even though they had automatic download of OTAs disabled in Developer options), and that the 13 Stable OTA did install successfully. Of course, it overwrote the rooted kernel/boot.img, so it wasn't rooted until they manually Magisk'd the boot.img from the (full) factory image zip and flashed it.
I can also confirm that on my own phone before 13 Stable came out, it wanted to install the tiny second July OTA even though again, I had automatic download of OTAs disabled. I just never rebooted until Android 13 Stable came out, which I manually flashed. I have no idea if that second July OTA would've successfully installed as well.
In some ways, being able to take the OTA officially may make it easier to update for some users, as long as it happens at a time you're comfortable installing the new rooted boot.img. But it's not cool about it ignoring the automatic download of OTAs switch. For the OTA to Android 13 Stable, it was reasonably understandable, in my opinion, since the bootloader vulnerability on Android 12 Stable was big enough to warrant that.
We have no idea at this point if all OTAs will successfully install over a rooted Stable firmware, or if any future OTAs will ignore the automatic download switch.
If I click download it just dismisses the message and does nothing. I do have the "Automatic system update" disabled in the developer menu. The current ROM on the phone is an official one I downloaded, patched with Magisk, and flashed.
I'm not looking to update every month, just want to get rid of this annoying popup and update when I see an update I want.
I tried the "Disable Application [ROOT]" app from the app store. You have to pay something like $3 to buy it, once.
It was a very tedious process, but I tapped on "Google Play services" in that app and scrolled through the very long lists of "Activities", "Services", "Receivers", "Providers" and unchecked anything that had an identifier that looked like it was related to system updates. e.g. "something.something.SystemUpdate".
I haven't seen this update message in 4 days, so that seems promising. It wasn't exactly a quick fix, though.
