Can I safely revert to Android 6.x? (From 7) using RUU? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I updated my HTC 10 to the brand new 7.0. It seems either Google or HTC has totally broken the long pause conference call pin feature in android. (This is where you dial a number and a conference pin separated by a semi-colon like XXXXXXXXXX;XXXXX) The popup asking me if I want to send the Pin number disappears after about 3 or 4 seconds way before the "Beep" when i need to send the pin.
Total deal breaker for me, since I make conference calls ALL day and I'm not going to revert to writing pin numbers on my hand while i'm in the car so I can dial them at the beep.
I desperately need to go back to Android 6.0.
I have lots of flashing, unlocking, and custom rom experience, but this device has some strange quirks like breaking the radio if you decrypt the file system...
Do I just need to use an android 6.0 RUU?
Will there be any issues due to encryption, 7.0 firmware, or anything else I need to be careful of when downgrading?

I am wondering too about downgrading procedure...
I want to know if it is safe using ruu.
I want to convert my international Htc 10 to developer unlocked and flash ruu so I can receive the nougat it's just to try it out.
Can I reverse this?
Looking forward to that answer.

If you're s-off it should be ok I think. But without s-off, downgrading firmware using an official RUU is not possible

I was on Viper 3,5. I converted my cid-mid to us unlocked and installed latest US UNLOCKED MM RUU.exe successfuly. Then I checked the firmware and took the official OTA,upgraded to Nougat successfuly. So I guess you can have Nougat, too.
Now I am on Nougat US Unlocked S-off cid BS_US001 mid 2PS650000 . I am wondering if I could revert to MM with the RUU.exe I have. Do I have to change to Supercid or do anything else,or just the RUU.exe would do the trick?

And when you say you downgraded..
Were you S-Off? (I'm not and since you said you were like ordeniz, I assume you were?)
Were you on the official 7 OTA (with firmware upgraded) or a custom rom built on 7 but without the firmware upgrade? (Again, if you were like ordeniz then you had the official OTA.)
I just wanted to be clear, and not make any assumptions.

As of now i dont think sunshine does

The sure thing I know is that you need to be rooted to be s-off. If sunshine will succeed you will know it when the sunshine app check your system. Download the app and before in app purchase a licence will tell you if you have successfull s off.

incallui.apk
Would someone be so kind as to upload a copy of InCallUI.apk from a 6.x Rom.
It's located in
/system/priv-app/InCallUI

[Q] Updating my HTC One M8

Hey guys,
I've been searching but couldn't find anything that really helps with my problem. I bought an HTC One M8 last year, it was supposed to be unlocked from factory but when it arrived it turned out it was an unlocked AT&T model. Anyways so I tried to root the phone but it was already rooted and running a TWRP (I don't know how this happened as the phone was sealed when I got it) I have no problem with this but as the phone is rooted and doesn't have the stock recovery I can't get any OTA and I'm still in 4.4.2. I was wondering if any of you guys could help me update my device to stock 5.0.1 without flashing a custom ROM.
Thanks

First off, there is no stock 5.0.1 for the AT&T version yet. There isn't even a 4.4.4 released yes (although it might be anytime soon).
Further, you aren't going to receive any OTAs since you aren't connected to the AT&T network. Some folks not specifically familiar with AT&T will disagree, saying the OTAs will come over WiFi even if not connected to the specific carrier. But AT&T is pretty unique in this regard (well, maybe other carriers in the US do it too, but not WWE versions).
You can download an official RUU to upgrade to 4.4.3. Then wait for RUUs to be posted for 4.4.4 and/or 5.0.1. That is all you can do at this time without s-off. With s-off, you can convert to any version you want, and get official OTAs that way (such as convert to WWE version), or run the US Developer's Edition 5.0 RUU.

World Wide English. Which doesn't really say much. Its the "international" version sold in Europe and other places.

Nope, your second option won't work. You need firmware on your phone that is compatible with 5.0.1, otherwise WiFi will be broken, and.or extreme long boot times (>10 minutes). And the only way to update your firmware is with s-off (until AT&T releases more updates).
So really, if you want to update now, your only option is s-off.
Ok dude, thanks for your help. I guess I'll have to s-off

If you want to update now, that is what I suggest. I don't see LP coming to AT&T for another month at least, and it might be even longer than that (months). We're still waiting for 4.4.4.
Be sure to check bootloader and confirm if its s-on or s-off (says one or the other near the top of the hboot screen). Since it was already rooted and bootloader unlocked, who knows, you might have lucked out and gotten a phone that is already s-off as well.
Yeah and like you said if I'm not connected to the AT&T network I might never get the update so it is the only option. BTW I checked and it's S-On =(
Thanks for your help.

A few questions about the bootloader and S-off-ing

Hi!
I've spent a few hours researching these topics but I still feel a bit unstable. If I get it right, you can use the HTCdev method to unlock your bootloader safely, but doing so will make you unable to relock it flawlessly. Using the Sunshine method gives you an opportunity to S-off while keeping the bootloader locked.
1.) Using the Sunshine S-off LOCKED method, can you "re-S-on" to make your device look factory new? (In other words: can you revert the changes completely?)
2.) I've read that S-off-ing is only required to install firmwares and for other "high-level" purposes. Could you please tell me a few situations / examples where S-off-ing would come handy (and an unlocked bootloader wouldn't be enough)?
3.) How can you install software updates while being in "S-off LOCKED" or just simply bootloader unlocked mode?
4.) Do you think Nougat will make any differences regarding the Sunshine method?
I'm planning to do one of the 2 methods after the official EU release of Android N.
Thank you in advance!
1-Yes. But s-on is not recommended unless you really really need it.
2-For example,I'm s-off unlocked.Changed my Europe device's Cid and Mid to US Unlocked version,flashed latest Nougat RUU.exe.Wanted to go back to Viper 3.5 MM,Flashed US unlocked MM RUU.exe,Changed mid cid,Flashed a stock MM European MM 1.90 rom,flashed Viper,upgraded firmware to 1.95 through fastboot.And that's it.I was back in the beginning.2 days later,saw the root came out,changed mid-cid,flashed RUU.exe just like that,and stock N again.Then applied root,here I am.If I wasn't s-off,in some place on this process,I believe I would be bricked,hard or soft,but bricked.
3-You can get the updates normally when s-off locked/unlocked through the OTA.
4-You should s-off while you're still on MM,because afaik sunshine isn't compatible with N yet.

Thanks for the fast anwser!
So the software updates only cause trouble when the bootloader is unlocked, regardless of being in s-off or s-on mode?
If I S-off now, will I be able to upgrade to N and keep the "S-off LOCKED" state?

I've been curious about this, does the MID matter? Europe is 2PS62000 and US is 2PS65000. I didnt know if there were hardware differences beyond radio ones, and whether or not that would create problems for European models outside of US?
Well,I read on the forum (don't remember which thread) someone having a problem because he forgot to type 1 zero in the mid.I mean it would be same if you change cid but not mid.And since it is really easy to change ,I changed them both.

There is none yet, the only Nougat RUUs available are for the US unlocked variant (CID 617) and the WWE/European variant, but for the WWE/European one is still a leak, the official OTA has yet to arrive for those.
Are you on Telcel? Maybe not what you need but here is a RUU for Telcel, it is an old version, may come in handy if you're S-Off and can downgrade (if you're on a newer firmware/ROM the only way to downgrade is with S-Off).
If you're S-On and on a newer version already you're out of luck, you need to wait.
Check this link in case you need the mentioned Telcel RUU:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=74636
And this is the name of the file:
2PS6IMG_PERFUME_UL_[email protected]60330.4_38.12_F_release_478391_signed_2_4.zip
Where did you get Telcel's RUU files?
I was wondering where did you get those RUU files and if there is a newer version for Android Nougat, I need to get my HTC 10 back to stock to get that uh oh protection warranty, I broke my screen :silly:

I didn't upload them, I found the link of the repository here on XDA, merit goes to user stifilz.
I don't think there is a Telcel RUU yet with nougat (or if it will ever be), my advise is to S-Off in order to use the old Telcel RUUs, Sunshine is a paid service but it's well worth it to use the uh oh warranty.
Just remember to leave it S-Off/locked the first time. Once you run the Telcel RUU you can run the command to S-On, that way you'll be fully stock.

I have a T-mobile HTC One M9. Can I update to nougat using the unlocked RUU?

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible for me to use the stock RUU to update to nougat on my htc one m9 rather than waiting for t-mobile to release a verified rom later in the year?
Yes u can. Just make sure that u are s-off and bootloader unlocked and then flash the dev edition ruu and u will get nougat.

Not quite. To flash the developer RUU on a T-Mobile branded M9, you'll need to change your MID & CID to match the SKU of the developer edition RUU. If you don't know about these acronyms, stop what you are doing and read up. The FAQ section of the M9 readme thread, question 9, walks you through converting GSM phones (like the T-Mobile version) to the developer edition.

Not until Sprint releases the Android Nougat update.
The only update the is currently available is for the developer edition of the M9, a GSM model. Sprint is a CDMA carrier and incompatible with GSM.
Thanks for clarifying.
And you cannot flash on sprint or cdma phones. The ruu is only for gsm phones.

RUUs have the firmware along with everything else. While I'm pretty sure there's a way to flash individual components (radio, firmware, et cetera), that is beyond me. I stick to using the RUUs, and recommend them heartily. The easiest method is the SD card method - outlined in that same post. You'll end up wiping your internal phone storage (so back up what you care about), but it'll get you to the latest and greatest for the M9.

Really? I read that you couldn't use an RUU because verify key on firmware v1-3 is different from the one on v4, so you need v4 firmware to use a v4 RUU, which requires using a method. So I converted to dev/ATT/unlocked, flashed a v3 RUU I found online, and now I'm going to try to update to v4 which is apparently safer. If this fails, I'll try the RUU. After all, this is all vanilla to HTC so it should tell me if it won't work.

I'm pretty sure the issues about keys has to do with trying to downgrade. But that's above my knowledge level.
I know for sure that you can apply the Nougat RUU after the Marshmallow RUU without issue because I have done this myself.

Tried to use an RUU. Got a signature error of some sort. Can't remember the number. RN it is taking OTA updates smoothly. Now, it will either get to v4 eventually through the OTA updates, or it will cut off at the top of v3 (in which case I have done something horribly wrong). I will try to flash RUU after I get v4 through OTA, just for fun and for the sake of the community
Edit 1: v4 finally showed up through OTA. 2GB Downloading currently. Will still RUU to double check compatibility. Will post back with success or not.
Edit 2: v4 was successful, device convered to HIMAULATT. Now flashing the Dev RUU, which works. It didn't work on v3. Therefor I was correct, and RUU v3 -> v4 isn't compatible.

HTC 10 O2 UK - no radio

Hi,
I had a reset / boot loop issue on my HTC 10 running LeeDroid.
I decided to flash with LeeDroid Oreo, and used a different firmware (changing the android file to be CID HTC__001). Obviously, this screwed the phone.
Essentially, I am able to get Nougat on to the phone, either LeeDroid or stock - but I am having difficulty with the radio. There isn't an IMEI number coming up.
Any advice on how to get this back please? MID 2PS620000, CID-HTC__001 on UK O2.
I do have the IMEI number, taken from getvar.
It's s-off (from sunshine - when it was boot looping).
Again, obviously I didn't take a back-up because that would have been the right way to do it!
Thanks for your help!

It was 2.51.617.32 from https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/2016-05-27-fastboot-flashing-firmware-t3387520.
I then tried 2.41.401.41 which is International rather than dev, then 2.28.401.6 and 1.95.401.4.
I can't see, find the original one for my phone...

Is there some firmware just for the radio, do you know?
Thanks,
John

This is a common problem when flashing OREO ROM without OREO firmware. You lose radio and can't get it back until you update. You need to Flash the latest Nougat RUU then update to OREO by OTA or manually flash with stock recovery.
Here is the RUU you need for CID HTC__001

If you upgraded to oreo firmware... You cannot downgrade back to Nougat... Have to use Oreo builds only.. And I do t believe the Oreo builds would work on Nougat firmware either...

Thanks - I am sure you know a lot more than me but as I have s-off though, I thought I would have full access to change firmware rather than being locked to Oreo? Do I need to wait until my carrier supports Oreo then?
Perhaps my question should really be - can someone help me get the IMEI number / radio working in Oreo please?
Thanks,
John
