After updating my unlocked HTC 10 to Android 7, I noticed "menu button" option in display settings. There is a check mark, but I don't know what it does.
I'd guess it's giving you the option of having the new one on screen, or continue using the capacitive button. Just a guess tho
Can I ask what build No you have?

You mean the three line hamburger menu button? It's just an addition to get to most used setting options quickly. It's not only in display, it's on other settings menus as well
I don't really see any changes when I toggle "menu option" in the display settings.

I selected that and didn't see any difference until I opened JetAudioPlus. There was a menu icon on the right bottom corner of the app.I think some apps make it visible,to make the menu easy to reach.Bu when I click it it still opens the menu on the upper right corner.I think the option is there because someone may need it in some apps.I don't need it.So I disabled it.
Is there some way I can use the right "recent apps" button as a real menu button??
I already tried Button mapper app by Flar and it doesn't have that function.
Did they get rid of the option to long press the recent apps button for menu? If so, that's lame...

Yes they did. Somebody who has a twitter account should write to Mo Versi or Graham Wheeler so that they are aware of this issue!

Yes there is.. I've got a thread in the guides section. Find it and it'll show you the location of the file to edit. Can't remember off the top of my head.

Just press and hold the Recent Apps button. If you're there on a screen with 'Settings' option, it will work. I downloaded an app named 'iLightr' from Android Market... It worked on my previous phone (Xperia Mini) but as it had an Menu button, I could change the cases... Now if I want to go to settings in iLightr app, I press and hold the Recent Apps button.
Anyway to get the menu overflow button into all apps and disable menu key or make it multitask key? Xposed modules or Roms? I loathe the menu key. All of my other devices have software buttons so I'm always thrown off when going to my note. Thanks

xposed module: 3-dot menu mod do the job(add soft menu key). Install it, activate in xposed and restart.
PS. And Samsung did it again wrong, because the menus are ugly in all their apps (light grey icons on a white background).
delete
Good stuff. This restored the 3 dot menu in Chrome after Google yanked it out in the last update.

Now to find a way to turn the menu button into a task switcher button and set long press home to google now
Youre right ... Listen to me get xposed modules install gravity box jellybean version... and use their pie controls.... make them appear on left side.... so use ur left thumb to acces home button and recent task on pie.... and your right thumb for the return button ... i know the feels... since that threw me off too ... this way you can comfortably navigate without sacrificing screen estate... .. trust me it rocks... contact me if you have more questions .. youre welcome

Long press home to Google Now can be done with Xposed. Both my phone and tablet work like that. I use Switchr for task switching with the activator in the bottom left and Button Savior Pro on the bottom right.
mine does that automatically. it also tried opening dolphin for some reason LoL
Just picked up my Note 4! With the replacement of the settings button with the Multi-Tasking button (which I love) how is everyone getting into their settings? Wondering if there was another quick settings option outside of placing a shortcut on the home screen. Loving the phone!!
Long press the multitasking button.
this did not work on mine, i have since installed nova yet again and not long pressing the open apps button works.
There are quite a few things they took away from this note that was on the note 3.
I decided not to install Nova yet, but he is right long pressing works. Looking forward to some blogs putting up guides and screenshots of all the new and "hidden" features.
Just pull down the notification shade...there's a settings button. Lol.
I think they mean the per-app settings button rather than the main device settings app.
I too love the multitasking button. Long hold press on home button was making me die a little bit every time on the note 3. This is much better.
Now, if I could stop accidentally invoking multitasking thinking I am going to get an app settings menu to drop down! Doh

Well, long-pressing the multitask button works for me to get access to the overflow/menu....
App specific options/settings menu? I dunno how else to explain it. Not all apps have them and the functionality is app-dependent. I.e. in chrome it pops up a menu with options like <- and -> and find in page etc. Now you have to long press the bottom left softkey to get to that instead of a single tap.
Main phone settings app you get to by tapping the gear button in the notification screen- which hasn't changed. Seems like that is what you were referring to. There has never been a softkey to get to that- that I know of

Overflow menu, yeah. Sorry didn't know what the heck to call that thing. Sorry for the confusion
Any way to do this without root on the Note 4? I believe HTC offers this option on their M7 and M8 phones, so I really hope Samsung did the same since they switched it.
yes please! I believe it can be done but uncertain without decompiling the app doing some recoding and then recompile the results into a .apk file.

haha me too i want menu one touch menu and recent long press of home button
I didn't realize the back button still did menu with a long-press. Glad to have learned that rather than having to search the 4 corners of the screen to see where the menu in whatever app is hidden.
When root is found, it should be a simple thing to flip the functionality of it right?
Also, anyone else wish there was a flashlight quick toggle in the notification tray?
Hi.
I noticed there is a slight lag when using the menu button (bottom left capacitive button), as opposed to the 'back' button which is immediate. Is there any way to tweak this? Maybe there's a built in lag for the menu button that can be disabled...

Do you mean the 'long press' option?
Because I don't have any such action set and yet I only have this laggy home button, in an otherwise supersmooth and fast system.
