Quick Question Regarding "OK Google" / Gogole Assistant - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

While I am in the process of troubleshooting my Pixel XL crashing overnight, i have been wondering something about the OK Google / Google Assistant. At night, I sleep with a fan on in my bedroom (mainly for white noise).
Do you think that it is possible that the Google Assistant would be attempting to activate or monitor for speech commands with this constant noise int he background from my fan? I'm not at home to test this, but I have been left wondering this today.

It's possible, try with fan off for a couple days and see the results.

[Q] "Ok google, whats my heart rate?" Doesn't work anymore! What am i doing wrong?
Hey Guys,
I hope someone can help me. I have a moto g (1st gen) and received my moto 360 yesterday, and everything worked fine.
Today I installed CM12 on my moto g. After that I couldn't get my phone to connect to my watch so I did a reset on the moto 360 and connected it to my phone.
But now phrases like "What's my heart rate, How's the weather, navigate to..." don't work anymore! The watch only gives me google search results!
I have Google now installed on the phone. Strange thing is that when is say "Ok google, take a note" or "call ..." or "settings", it does work!
I must be missing something but I can't seem to find out what. Hope someone can help me!
In the Android Wear app on your phone, do you have an app set for the voice action(s) that aren't working?
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
I checked and they are set so that's not the problem
Try using some other words...like "Ok Google, Show me my heart rate." Or try this " Show me my foot steps " if this works then everything is fine.
I too received my Moto 360 day before yesterday.
I have set Google Fit as the default App for monitoring my fitness.
And setting the Google Fit app as default also saves battery of my Moto 360.
As the Moto body app monitors heart beat rate and steps unnecessarily time to time in background throughout the day and that drains battery.
So i have set my default app to Google Fit from the Android Wear App. (See the screenshot attached)
And then in Moto 360 i went to Google Fit app and swiping twice to left gave me option to Turn Off the Google Fit app.
And this turned off the monitoring. I switch it back ON when i need it and then turn it off.
I found the solution! Apparently the problem was that I set the phone OS language to my native language (Dutch) after installing cm12. I did set the google now speech recognition language to English (us), but apparently that didn't change anything on the watch.
After setting my phone OS language back to English (us), everything works just as it did before!
I still think It's strange that the phone OS language can change the functionality of the watch, but I'm happy everything works as it should!

How about you do some research yourself instead of having us do the legwork for you.
There are too many variables with GPS, most likely it's user error or just a lack of signal.
Flash factory images and stop driving while using YouTube. You're a danger to everyone on the road, and it's not to be taken lightly. Someone could die because your negligence.

I use YouTube playlist for audio in my car all the time, literally every day. Yes, fiddling through songs while driving is a danger to him and everyone else, but who said that's what he was doing? Don't be so quick to assume the worst and think he's doing all this while driving, it's not hard to run this setup before leaving the house/work.
Anyways try calibrating your GPS in the Google maps app, and placing your phone somewhere closer to a window (anywhere else really, experiment with location.). For example, I don't get crap for GPS signal when my pixel is sitting near or in my center console, but if I move it to my passenger seat or put it on my magic mount I never loose signal.
Also try purchasing YouTube red or premium or whatever it's called. That way you can play your music, then return to the maps app, maybe keeping maps as a foreground app will help your problem, but who knows.
Man... You guys are harsh. I have gps issues, but different from what I can find online. Also, don't be so quick to blast him about driving with YouTube. Maybe he likes to listen to music from YouTube or maybe he has tesla auto pilot and likes to watch videos in rush hour traffic.
thx noidea and dinkoh... gonna leave this thread... clearly not worth trying to find an answ here based on the unconstructive prior responses (not yalls responses)
No idea if it is what's going on or not, but VZW has a long history of GPS issues on rooted devices, especially ones running custom firmware. As far as I know it has never been fixed, but not sure of that anymore.

I'm going to bump the thread real quick because I started having this issue after tweaking my doze settings.
If you're using the "L speed" app turn all the doze settings under the battery section app off. If you used another app to enable any doze mods or disable doze motion detection then disable them all.

Not in my experience
For what its worth, on my unlocked, rooted, and custom rom'd (purenexus) pixel xl, gps seems to be working just fine. Rather surprising since every previous device had problems. Unless the rom does it by default i haven't done any tweaks to any doze settings so cant rule that out on my end.

Pixel 2 XL and Huawei Watch 2 Sport

I have noticed my battery life on my watch has been really bad since getting my Pixel 2 XL. I previously had the regular Pixel. I have everything set up the same but I did notice today that in the drop down, there is a Bluetooth icon and sync arrows that flash often so I'm thinking the Bluetooth is syncing a lot and causing my battery issues. I have added a screen shot of what I am talking with the link below, I was unable to attach a photo for some reason...
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1A1Tt5j-J1TAYuUSlcWYU1mSlZJBHB7QP4Q/view?usp=drivesdk
Has anyone else experienced this, or know why the Bluetooth icon is now in the drop down menu when it wasn't there with my regular Pixel?

Weird. I have the same setup but no Bluetooth icon like that on my watch menu
I have a Huawei Watch 2 paired with my Pixel 2 XL and don't see the BT icon when I swipe down. Do you have anything other than the Pixel paired with your watch?
P.S. I hadn't noticed any battery drain with the Watch and Pixel. Have you tried resetting the watch?

I don't have anything else paired with my watch. I have tried resetting the watch and also my Pixel.
Thanks.

I reset my watch again and that icon was not present and my battery life was back to normal. Then...when I looked at it this morning it was back and battery life sucks again, -10% in 30 min...
After I reset the watch I noticed that there was an update for Android Wear pending on the watch but it could not download because I wasn't connected to WiFi. Is there possibly something with the new version if Android Wear?

I have the Bluetooth icon too on my watch,it start to show with the latest Android Wear update.
So I was looking and didn't seem to find much except this thread that was remotely connected to my issue. My pixel 2 XL is connected to my huawei watch 2 sport, the watch says it's connected, the watch behaves like it's connected but on the phone Bluetooth menu it doesn't say the watch is connected. The quick settings drop down doesn't show the watch connected either. Recently updated to 8.1, still the same, reset my watch, still the same. It shows my Vizio sound bar as connected but not the watch. My pixel 2016 would show the watch as connected. I guess ultimately I just wanted to know if others with these same pieces of equipment was having the same issue. I guess I'm a bit anal when it comes to things like this. Lol. I just want my devices to have all the functionality they are supposed to.

Do you have the option to play audio on watch enabled? When that's enabled it usually has two entries in the Bluetooth settings. One for the watch to Android Wear and one for the BT headset profile.

I don't see anywhere that gives me that option. But these are some screen shots. Currently my watch is connected, not any of these screens show it that way. When I go through the Bluetooth menu and select the watch, the connect button is available, but when I press it nothing happens.

It showed just fine on my first gen Pixel XL. The reason I'm curious at this point is because with Android 8.1, the Bluetooth device's battery stats are supposed to be displayed with the device being connected. But my watch never displays it's connected. My other Bluetooth device show connected, just not the watch.

I'm the menu on the watch, it says I'm connected to my phone, down towards the bottom it says, play phone voice call on watch. That is unchecked.
Edit*
Turned it on, it says it's connected on my phone. I guess I didn't realize that had to be checked for it to register. The watch still rings when I get a phone call, I guess that's why I didn't think about it. Shouldn't it say it's connected even with that turned off?

OK Google with screen off

I have been using the Moto Z2 Play for almost a year now, and the feature i used every day is waking the phone when the screen is off by using the OK/Hey Google command.
The tooltip in the Google voice match settings used to read: Access your assistant any time you say "OK Google", even if your screen is off or you're using your favorite apps.
However after updating the Google app to version 8.28 the tooltip changed to "whenever your screen is ON" instead of "even if your screen is off".
And sure enough, the phone will no longer respond to commands until i pick up the phone and manually turn on the screen, which defeats the purpose.
Why was this feature removed? I have tried everything and finally had to uninstall Google updates and install an older version(8.24) from apk mirror to get Assistant to work properly again.
What is even more puzzling to me is that this problem seems specific to my Z2 Play, i have the latest Google app version(8.28) on my Xiaomi phone, and the tooltip still says "even if your screen is off" and it works as it should.
I tried Googling this issue, i checked the Motorolla support forums, the Google assistant support forums etc. and couldn't find any mention of this issue.
This has also happened to me! I thought I just needed to reboot the phone to maybe fix a background service that had stopped, but I also see that "...even when your screen is off" has been removed from the Voice settings. This is one of the features that made the Moto Z line attractive to me, and I literally use (well, used) the feature several times a day, especially while driving. I also use Android Auto and now I have to either touch the microphone on my truck's head unit screen, press and hold the voice button on the steering wheel for 3 seconds, or unlock my phone so I can talk to it. I have a self-built Android Auto in my other car and it also has this issue, which I now know is not related to either car's system. Thank you for posting and bringing this to our attention.
I think this must be a bug in the latest Google app. Does anyone know where we can submit bug reports for the app, or voice control/Google Assistant in general?
Has any else experienced this problem, or does anyone have ideas about what to do to potentially resolve it? Surely OP and I can't be the only two people who have witnessed this issue.

It is likely that there just aren't many Z2 play users who frequent xda, and the ones that do never noticed the issue because they don't use the feature.

Question Google Assistant not working when navigating with Google Maps

Got a weird one. Running Android 13 with OneUI 5. Removed Bixby, no root.
"Hey Google, navigate to X", works just fine.
"Hey Google, play music, next song, etc" -- voice changes to female, has no idea what I am talking about.
Stop navigation, or press the home button, minimize GMaps, "Hey Google, play music" "Okay! Playing music, etc"
Why does the voice change when navigating, and why can't assistant work when navigating?
I tried messing with Google Assistant Drive Mode and it's nice, but only works in Portrait, which is dumb because I drive with one of those motorized Qi chargers you put your unfolded Fold in.
I'm guessing Google Assistant turns off and hands things over to come dumb built into GMaps voice assistant while navigating or something?
Figured it out, by returning the Fold 4 and using an old Pixel 3XL I had laying around. Pixel 7 Pro is on order.
This is the second fold I've returned as I just can't do the bugs and software inconsistency from Samsung. I end up debloating and removing all Samsung apps as I want Google services instead of a company who tries to copy Apple.
Assistant just works when navigating and I'm really surprised with how well the Pixel 3 holds up. Fingers crossed we see a Pixel Fold!

Then why are you complaining about bugs? How sure are we that you haven't turned off too much?
