Is it possible to take the status bar from ICS and modify ours so we have a status bar like that?

How do I get the status bar to not expand automatically on first touch? I'm using Gravity Box and want to change a few things in the status bar, like slide left/right on the status bar to dim/brighten the screen, but on first touch the status bar expands so it isn't possible. Anyway to disable this feature?
I have the exact same issue. I would like to know the answer to this also.
I'm working on something really interesting but to top it all off I need some way to change the layout of the status bar.
