[Q] Which ROM to install on S4 Mini GT-I9195? - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I've repaired this phone for a friend of mine, but refuse to let her use it further with the stock OS messing up her phone's battery life.
So, I went ahead and installed CM 12.1, however, it isn't really performing that well. And I've read around on the net that it causes battery drain, openGapps also doesn't seem to be playing nicely together with it.
Either way, my question is. Which version of Cyanogenmod should I be using to let this phone reach its true performance and battery life? I'm also open for other ROM suggestions besides CM, though I'm most familiar with it.
Thanks a lot guys!

I recomend try Ressurection Remix 5.7.4 build 20161009
I use it now and it configurable, perfectly smooth, and also battery friendly ROM

Thanks for the tip! Checking it out for sure. Though isn't CM 10 a good choice as well?

After CM 12.1-13 I can't use cm 10-11, it looks laggy for me, in comparison.

Lag isn't really the issue, it's more about which ROM will het me the best battery life in the end. Preferably CM.

What Custom Rom do you use (Kit Kat 4.4)? and why?

I am going over to make my decision on what rom to flash for my device. looking into a good performance and battery life. I hear CM has it bad with battery usage, not sure if its true though.
I am also looking for roms that run on 4.4 Kit Kat to try out.
If not one of the roms in the poll, feel free to post another rom.
NeatROM seems cool as well
IMHO, i've flashed a bunch of custom ROMs
1: they all make and receive phone calls.
2: they all send and receive texts.
3: they wont pay my bills.
4: they wont wipe my *ss.
seriously; and seriously, for me they have to be tweaked for optimal battery life/performance.
best advice i have; try them all and see. they all have their own uniqueness developed by some very knowledgeable people.
good luck.
err on the side of kindness

Runs on Kit Kat, Good Battery Life and Fast is all I need as well Have you tried others and compared it?
And would you happen to know where I can find the rom for my specific model and carrier? (Specs in my sig)
I am using full stock KitKat and I can push 21 hours of bat with 6 hours of screen time.....IMO that's awesome for 2100mah

Ive installed quite a bit of rom's the two that stand out besides SlimKat would be Carbon and Mokee Both I used on my last phone (inspire 4g)
Carbon was nice, but kinda seemed slow for me. It would of been my first choice but I could not for the life of me find out what was causing it.
Mokee is also fast, they do have daily updates (Lets me know that someone is working on it) it's open source, but the only thing that killed it for me was the Chinese apps that was built in the rom.
Im not sure about the model of your phone if it's D2lte or Jflte here are download links for both.

The kernel is stable as can be, no lock ups. It's fast, out of the box so you dont have to overclock, and better battery life in the end.

Why so few custom roms?

Hey there.
I'm coming from Asus Infinity TF700, which was a great tablet but had disastrous storage speed, which made it virtually unusable.
On the other hand, there was plenty of custom ROMs, from CM to Paranoid, and others.
I've done some digging through Tab S forums and it seems so far only 3 custom ROMs are available, and even those are not being developed or are based on stock.
Why is that? Not many devs have Tab S? No people with know-how?
Anything esle?
Are there more custom roms to be expect in the future?
I am actually not sure when this tablet came to market, but it seems like 5-6 months now.
Thx for all the info. Oh, and if anyone could recommend a custom rom for Tab S 10.5 (WiFi only) I would appreciate it.
BR
We have cm11, skyhigh kernels, stock based rom, and blissed rom is being working on now. The best custom rom for the tab s wifi is cm11 in which im running now. Its super fast and stable.
Thanks for info.
Would you be so kind and point me to the CM11 thread - i'm talking T-800, not T-700 for which i have found a thread. But i don't think it is compatible, is it?

Apologies for going OT
Does CM11 support colour profiles?

Rob
I've just installed cm, and it works great so far.

I dont think so. I think they are just trying to make it stable and make most things work just like stock rom.
Thanks for the info.

How About Battery Life? Is it better than stock?
I've recently discovered the awesomeness of Pure Nexus on my Galaxy S4 and I would absolutely kill to have a rom like this for my Tab S. Google edition experience is buttery smooth, incredible battery life and has really extended the life of my phone. I may try the CM11, but I really don't know if it could be better than a modified Nexus rom.

Ehh well it depends. When i installed a custom rom battery life was a tad shorter. But after a couple charges to get the battery calibrated its a bit the same but A bit better. To get more battery on cm11 what i did was underclock the cpu to 1.3 mhz and set the profile to power save. I now have six hours screen on time at 35 percent. So it may vary. If you dont change anything it would not change battery life but butter smooth.

its about as close as you will get at the moment, im a stock fan, and been using CM11 for 2 days, only has the tablet 3 days, and i must say its very nice.
Any android device with no official aosp support will always be boring and stagnant in custom development

That's truly unfortunate with the great hardware available on this device. It's what the Nexus should be!

While I wait 72 hours - Help me decide with ROM to install

Ok, so I am waiting the frankly ridiculous 72 hours to be able to unlock my Mix 2. Help me fill the time with chat about which ROM I should install.
I would like a stock Android Oreo experience with no bells or whistles. Is there more than one option, or should I just go with Lineage 15.1?
If you like stock oreo with no bells or whistles: Definitely AndyYan's LOS15.1. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-2/development/rom-lineageos-15-1-t3761585
If you like MIUI try the Community Roms from xiaomi.eu, i use there Roms for over 5 Month, and im happy, they have Stable and Weekly Roms.
Is there anyone who tried Lineage 15.1 from AndyYan after xiaomi.eu ROM? What about fluidity and battery life?

I'm on it now, battery and fluidity is as good as the other custom ROMs. Just less features.

Gets really bad when battery is low, the lighter Facebook apps on the market are quite good with smoothness, just not as good to look at.

Best AOSP ROM as of now?

I'm not a big MIUI fan but until the initial 72 hours go by I'm stuck with it... However that doesn't stop me from looking into all kind of AOSP ROMs.
I know that I'll have to test and try them all myself, but I'm curious what all of you are using and why.
My biggest focus is definitely battery life (screen time more so than standby) and I'd love it if any of you could give me numbers on this as well.

Resurrection remix, OmniROM, and LineageOS all share code trees. The differences between them should rally just be the minor feature set differences. I personally use LineageOS, but that is just because I like Lineage.
RR from Arasthel is awesome, just very very bad battery life.
OmiRom, not as smooth as MIUI, but better battery life than RR (but slightly less than MIUI)

Funny you mention smoothness compared to MIUI.
I find MIUI to be a laggy mess.
So.. it seems Omni is the place to be for battery life?

is your device full or has 100 apps running at the background? Miui is very very smooth. If your phone is clean then something wrong is going on with your miui. Some people complained for problems after ota update. A clean install solve the problem.
To add to what @papavales is saying, check what apps have autostart enabled. Great feature from MIUI that gives you great control over resource hungry apps.
I've swtiched from MIUI to Omni weekly builds and Im surprised how good this ROM is. I find xiaomi.eu laggy like hell last time...

Had some time to run the battery through its paces yet? Debating on whether I should go with official or unofficial builds here.
Official would mean hassle-free OTA, but unofficial (judging from the changelog) seems to be better tweaked for our device?

In my opinion WEEKLY are better, but thats mine. More stable and in my example more smooth (?)
I've settled for unofficial lineage os for the time being (now that I'm unlocked I need to try them all) and I'm just so happy to be back on AOSP after being forced to endure MIUI for three days waiting on the unlock permission...
The recent screen and notification shade on that thing just kill it for me.
Back in MIUI 4 and 5 they still rocked more or less clean versions of these but everything that came after just ruined it for me.

Best ROM for this device?

Hi I've been using the default Xiaomi ROM since I bought this device about a year ago. It was working fine with the Android 9 upgrade, but I noticed Android 10 runs noticeably slow. So I want to change the ROM, but I'm unaware if the issues are because of Xiaomi ****ing up, or if Android 10 is not light enough for the device. So I want to know which custom ROM of the ones available in this forum would best suit me if what I'm looking for is reliability and speed. I would like to stay in Android 10 if possible, so if anyone got experiences with custom Android 10 ROMS that could give some insight into their performance with this device I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
HavocOS is pretty nice, also Pixel Experience is pretty nice but when I was testing it, it had pretty bad battery 5-6h SoT. If I were you I would wait for POSP to be updated which should hopefuly happen soon. I personally use HavocOS vanilla and it works great, only issue I have is bluetooth audio that stutters rarely, and battery might not satisfy you. I get about 8h of SoT, while on stock android one I was able to get 12-13h

I don't have any problem with those, but I used 11.0.10.0 as base and everything works as it should. Also it might be cause by newer version, on 3.8 I had no problems and I didn't install 3.9 yet

By default the OS is almost not dozing, so you can see a bit more of battery usage, but you can tweak the kernel to save battery and make it last "forever", see the instructions on butterfly kernel post.
