Titanium Backup not working correctly - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Guys when I use TB it backs up all my apps but does not show the folder when I connect to my pc. Also if I try to restore an app it shows theres not a backup when I clearly see one in my es file explorer on my phone. Any idea how to fix this? I heard TB was working correctly but I have had no luck with it. Any suggestions?

Make sure TiB has permission to access the SD card.
In TiB, are you sure that the TiB folder is set to the correct path?
Did you switch your usb connection from charging to file access?

sorry, I know comments like this doesn't exactly help but I use TiB on my Pixel XL without any issues.

My computer saw my first TB backup folder as an empty folder even though it had files.
So I copied the folder to a different location on my phone and the computer picked it up fine after that.
I haven't had any issues since then with using the original settings after a restore-to-stock.
Do you have Busybox installed?

Just a random subfolder.
/sdcard/randomfoldername/titaniumbackup

I just zipped mine then I was able to see it. This might be a good post for TB post so they can see there is a issue.

[Q] Titanium Backup on the Galaxy Nexus

How is everyone dealing with application backups on Titanium? specifically backing up TB files off the SGN
how are you pulling the TB backup files OFF the SGN other then using dropbox? when i connect via MTP, the TB backup files do not show up in windows explorer
thanks,
I just drag and dropped them into /TitaniumBackup/ on the root of MTP and it worked.
If it doesn't work, try making a new folder in the root of MTP.
Go into that new folder and copy paste /TitaniumBackup/ into /New Folder/ then after thats done move /TitaniumBackup/ back into the root folder.

restoring onto the nexus is easy because i can do like you said and it works great but what about backing up from your nexus to the PC. the files do not show up in MTP to copy to the PC.
titanium working well. i just bought the paid version yesterday. and i have all apps with data from my old phone. really happy about that.

yes, it works great but how do you go about moving the newly backed up tb files off the sgn to the pc for safe keeping?
Try sharing a folder on your Windows Machine and using AndSMB Linda File Manager or eXplorer which will allow you to map to that shared drive from your Android Phone over the network. You can then just copy the files directly over your wireless connection.
cant you just copy and paste the folder onto your PC? thats all i do, the storage acts the same as an sdcard on windows 7
Switch to camera mode for large transfers, then switch back.
I flashed a new ROM today and then tried to restore my Titanium back. The ROM is rooted. Titanium went through the steps of restoring, but I coukd see none of the apps in the drawer and I had to reinstall from the Market one by one.
Did this happen to anybody?
EDIT: Silly of me, was using an old version which probably doesn't like ICS. The latest version works fine .
TB current doesnt work on my GN... it freeze on batch restore.
Is it possible to back up apps and settings on to an external flash drive using Titanium Backup if you have a USB host cable and the StickMount app?

Same here.
It looks like the JNI call that Titanium Backup is using to restore the backups is causing a null pointer exception. So far I haven't been lucky googling for an answer.

I'm on verizon stock 4.0.2, rooted.
I have unknown sources ticked (just in case).
It works when I choose the classic method under debugging options, I found out.
I used it yesterday with no issues on my GSN. Used batch back up, installed Android Revolution HD 2.1.2 and restored all apps etc. Worked as expected.
I'm having the same problem as OP stigmax and it doesnt seem like his (my) question got answered.
I used TB and it worked great. Now I want to take the backup files off my SGN and onto my laptop in case something terrible happens to the phone.
The /TitaniumBackup/ folder shows up in MTP and PTP, but both times the folder is empty.
Where did my backups go??
They show up fine on my PC...

Hmm. I've read that TB hasnt been fully optimized for ICS so maybe I'll just chalk it up to that and hope I can still restore if I need to.

Rom manager will not use my external sd card for backups anymore.
By known, what do you mean? Will i never be able to reboot my phone out of a service area and have the right time?
Will renaming nandroids still work with the new blob-style system new cwm uses?
Yeah, you can use Rom Manager to rename one after its been created, or to create and name one using "Backup Current ROM", even with the new type of backups it makes.

Try twrp, the dates are still wrong but there is a keyboard within the recovery for renaming backups.

Titanium Backup "Protect This Backup" fails

Anyone have this issue?
I have Titanium Backup Pro, and everything works perfectly in it, except being able to protect my backups to internal memory.
With my previous phone (CM7) I never had this issue.
I wonder if this is a result of the internal SD card not using FAT32.

Yes, I have exactly the same problem on my Nexus 7 and VZW Galaxy Nexus, both running 4.2.1, and both of which use the internal memory sdcard configuration. I inquired to TB support, and got a quick response, the core of which follows here:
"Some devices don't support the "read-only" attribute for files on their storage area, which is why you are getting this error. Its a filesystem limitation on some devices that have an "internal sd card" which emulates FAT filesystem, but without offering the "read-only" attributes for files.
The simple solution, if you're rooted, is as follows:
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions and make sure you have mounted the file system r/w.
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart your tablet"
The explanation seems plausible to me, based on their description of the problem, but I don't have any expertise in the coding area. I did edit and update the platform.xml file on my Nexus 7 exactly as they described, but it didn't help me, unfortunately. I think it's possible they have a fix for it, but there might be a typo in the feedback from them. I have asked for a follow-up, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I don't expect too much from them over this holiday period, but I'm hopeful they can resolve it for us.
UPDATE: I tested my ASUS TF101 (on 4.1.1) today, and found that the TB backup protect failed with the same message when I used the internal SDCard for the TB backup, but worked properly when I had the backup on my external uSDCard., which lends more credibility to internal memory being at the center of the problem.

Hi guys,
I'm having the same issue on my S2 running on KitKat.
The strange thing is: I have my backups stored on the external SD which is formatted FAT32 but still Titanium Backup fails to protect my backups.
Any news on this?
Edit: Forgot to mention that I tried the solution above but the permission was already set the way TB support suggested.

I recently found this path to work for myself using TB but my problem is I had to change permissions to the media_rw folder to be able to access it with TB being read only. Once phone it rebooted or maybe its was powered off the permission were undone and TB could not access the media_rw folder again. I hoping there is a easy way to make the folder permissions stick like it did using Root Explorer clicking on the permissions check boxes if not how can I make it work?

Almost the same here except I can set the permissions of media_rw to 777 but still TB won't protect backups. I've tried to use the path /mnt/media_rw/sdcard1 where I can create backups but am unable to protect or unprotect.

This is the path I used to get protect this backup working using TB to work /mnt/media_rw/extSdCard/TitaniumBackup.

Only way this has worked was setting media_rw to 777 permissions.
Then I could go set path in TB using mnt/media_rw/extSdCard/TitaniumBackup
When TB was setup using that path Protect This Backup works

I've tested to reboot and afterwards the permissions are back to the original value 700. Perhaps someone can write a little script that runs on every startup and corrects the permissions?
Edit: it doesn't work on CM11. I can set the permissions on media_rw to 777 but still TB can't access the folder on my external SD although it's able to access the folder of the internal SD (tried both partitions formatted with FAT32 and exFAT).
Even when I tried to create backups on the internal SD TB was unable to protect them.
Perhaps the CM team could have a look into this...

thank you. :good::good::good: I've same issue on my Zenfone 5 upgraded latest Kitkat. So i go to "Preferences Settings" in TB and detect again for my Backup folder on "whole device" option. It detected 2 folder : "/Removable/MicroSD" and "mnt/sdcard_rw//Removable/MicroSD". Then i chosed option 2 (/mnt....) and everything ok intermedialy.
That method is working I have to admit! But now the new problem is... Now I can't unprotect them :/

[Q] Invalid path of SD card

Im running Quantum V3, 4.4.1 KitKat on AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3. Last night I played around with phone, unmounted SD card cuz I needed to check my battery drainage. After I remounted it, ESfile explorer says that sdcard1 has "Invalid path". Even tho in settings > storage, it shows that there is sd card and how much space there's left on it...
I did a clean flash of the ROM before if that matters. I don't wanna reflash it and arrange all the apps all over again...
Also when I check the sd card through the app folders, aka in storage/sdcard1, it shows files and everything. What could be the issue that I cant get it to work?

Probably one of the bugs with the latest update by PwnCakes. Maybe you didn't unmount properly, or try formatting the sd card and plug it in again?
I have the same exact thing.
Sigh, at least I'm not alone xD
And I didn't try formatting, got 27 gig stuff on my SD card and unfortunately no space on HDD to copy all the stuff :/
Shame I ain't got enough posts to reply in PwnCakes thread...
I think it might actually be a bug within the rom itself OR ES file explorer. I had this bug since I think a few releases ago
I have the exact same problem. Under "device", i have two copies of extSDcard. I also get the "invalid path" when i tap on sdcard1. I guess i'll wait for a fix, as i don't want to uninstall ES File Explorer, and reinstall, just to lose everything.

Temporary ES File Explorer Workaround for SD Card and Ext SD Card
Sorry it took so long. Just got done finals and had to get the bus. Below is the settings that you guys can use to make it almost as if nothing was wrong with ES.
Set your directory settings for Home to the External SD Card
Change the default window settings to the following: Sdcard, Home, whatever else you want loaded AFTER these
This will make it so that the first loaded 'window' of ES is the device's internal memory. Then it will load the external SD card as the second 'window'. As long as you check it in the proper order, it will load just fine.

I'll be honest with you. I check play d store almost daily to see if there is anything new with ES. I don't know. It might be a problem with the selinux transition from 4.3 to 4.4. It could be a million things but I think its just some back end code for the file system. :/

@grunt0300 if you really want, I can take a look into the permission.xml. however, no way I am making the commits to my device at the moment. All I know (without looking up the exact wording) is that in permissions.xml is a line for read external storage and that line is set to media/mnt/sdcard instead of storage/sdcard1.

[Q] Where is the File Manager?

Am I missing something? or is there no preinstalled File Manager?
Preinstalled apps, and google apps are the only apps allowed to write/edit to the miceSD card, so why wouldn't HTC install one?
Already regretting getting this phone, since I download a Lot of work files via my phone, and now I'm unable to move them from the downloads folder to the proper folder on the microSD.
Just downloaded one from Google play, loads to choose from.

Well I tried it, but that app, just like all the other ones on the play store do not let you move files from the phone memory to the microSD.
It won't let you Delete anything either...
All you can do is view the microSD. No writes can be made to it.
Android 4.4 won't let the apps do that anymore. (Unless rooted)

Then no other File Manager can do it either (without root). Can you delete files when connected to a PC?

Yes the files on the microSD can be altered via the PC. But apps like airDroid won't work anymore.
Working all the go, I don't have time to stop to plug the phone up to the computer every time I need to move/rename/delete a file.

same boat here. I copy via USB2go all the time on my Note 3, and this is crippled for the M8. There's a work around, but you need to unlock the boot loader first, which for me is a pain, since it will reset the phone. I'm pretty OCD and it takes me some time to set everything up the way I like it. At this point, i'm just doing the PC transfer thing.
Upload the files to Google drive and then download to your memory card?

Google Drive saves any downloaded files to the internal memory, under the download folder. And there is no way to change where its saved to (that I know of)
It was just a poor choice of Google to disallow 3rd Party Apps from emaking changes to the external memory. They should have atleast
Made it a requirement for the manufacturer to include a file manager. Or Google them self should have. I understand they trying to push people to use Google Drive, but until data usage is free I won't used Google Drive to save nothing more than Google docs.

A google backed file manager with full write permissions would be awesome, but that would be going against what they are trying to accomplish.
