You could do that before flashing Cwm aswell.. Use rom toolbox.. I did it the day I got this phone
Update: SPFlashTool flashable Marshmallow firmware file is now available. Build MOB30N.
OTA links are already there on xda, but here was no specific thread for Canvas A1 so i am writing one
Google has released the OTA files for Canvas A1 and other android one devices.
NOTE: To update your phone using OTA files your phone should be running Stock lollipop or atleast stock recovery. (Not applicable if using sp flash tool)
If you are running a custom rom or custom recovery then before proceeding to this guide you must revert back to stock lollipop using sp flash tool
Pre-requisites: 1.Your phone should be atleast 60% charged
2. Back up all important data (just to be safe)
Canvas A1 users can easily update their device by following method(s)
Method 1 (the usual method):
Step 1: Download the official Marshmallow OTA file from here https://android.googleapis.com/packages/ota/google_aq4501sprout_aq4501/dc78fbefaf5f69cc4754751251d9ece094bc96e6.signed-sprout-mmx-MRA58M-from-LMY48M.zip
Step 2: Connect your smartphone to computer using the original USB cable.
Step 3: Copy and paste the OTA zip files to phone's storage and make a note of its location.
Step 4: Boot your smartphone into recovery mode or stock recovery: Disconnect the phone from computer, and then turn it off.
Press and hold both the Volume and the Power buttons until the display turns on and enters bootloader mode.
Hit the volume button to open the Recovery menu and then press the power button to select it. Your phone should now boot into recovery mode.
At this moment, a dead Android with an exclamation mark should appear on the screen. Now press and hold Power button for three seconds and then hit the Volume up button once to progress into recovery mode.
Step 5: Return to the main recovery screen and choose 'install update from sdcard'.
Step 6: Then select the OTA zip file using the volume buttons for navigation and the Power button to select any file or open a folder. After you select the zip file, confirm its installation and the update should start installing on your device.
Step 7: Once the installation is done, return to main screen of recovery. Choose Reboot system now to restart the phone and boot into the newly installed Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update from Google.
Voila!! You are running official Android 6.0 :laugh:
Method 2 (using sp flash tool, best method)
This method can be used even if you are running a custom rom. You can also use this method to unbrick Micromax Canvas A1.
Pre-requisites: Windows computer, USB cable, and most important "patience".
Step 1:
a) Download micromax driver.{thanks to @mohsin.r.munshi}
Extract its content, you will find an .exe file inside a folder "driver9401". Disable your antivirus and run the .exe file as administrator. (If you are using 64-bit windows, you will need to "disable driver signature enforcement". Google it)
b) Download SP Flash tool from my mediafire or from its official website. Extract it to any folder
c) Download SPflashTool flashable Marshmallow firmware . Extract the zip file. You will see the following files in it (similar not exact)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note the location of MT6582_Android_scatter.txt file
Step2: Goto the folder where you have extracted sp flash tool. Run flash_tool.exe
Step 3: In sp flash tool, Click on "scatter loading". Then locate and select "MT6582_Android_scatter.txt". SP Flash tool will load all firmware files from the folder where you have extracted the OTA files.
Step 4: Power off your phone. And REMOVE the battery. Now on SP flash tool, click on "Download".
(refer to screenshots given on this website. Ignore the steps given on this website, just refer screenshots)
Step 5: (pay attention to every word) Connect USB cable to your phone only. Then Press and HOLD volume down button and insert the other end of USB cable to your pc. Flashing will start automatically. Wait till you see "OK" message on your pc.
Step 6: Once you see "OK" message, disconnect your phone and reinsert your phone's battery. Turn ON your phone. The first boot will take longer than usual.
Congo! You just updated/unbricked your Micromax Canvas A1.

flash official lollipop rom using method 2 above
Hi.. I'm on CM13 now. But I don't have mobile data for some reason. So I want to flash stock ROM. But last time I tried flashing stock, it wiped my IMEI numbers. Luckily my warranty status was somehow reset. So I had to get the phone replaced. Does this have a chance to cause the same problem (wipe my IMEI numbers)??

In that case, i would suggest you to take a backup of your imei data using MTK Droid tool. Also copy your nvram folder straight from your phone to as many external storages as you can. Nvram (imei data) somehow becomes unrecognised after downgrading some phones.
Solution:
1. Use MTK droid tool to restore it from a previous backup.
or
2. locate nvram folder ( /data/nvram, correct me if i m wrong) DELETE it. Then paste a copy of your nvram folder that you copied when imei was not lost. DONT chmod. You will most probably get your network working (ensure that sim card was PRSENT and Radios were ON during this copy paste) within few seconds. I did this to restore imei on galaxy s4.
well, i have flashed 9 different mediatek phones using spflashtool, didnt lose imei in any.

Thanks! I'll post an update when I come around to flashing the stock ROM. Don't have the time now.
hi can i use these update for micromax unite2(8gb) from lolipop to marshmallow.
Firmwares are device specific. You CANNOT install a this on any other phone. You will brick your phone by installing a ROM which is not made for your device
Please update stock marshmallow link sir as soon as possible
.......
Thanks in advance
Micromax android one got hang at marshmallow logo.
My micromax android one got stuck at marshmallow logo. I tried to flash lollipop using SP flash as mention above in method 2. I connect my phone . My phone is successfully detected by my PC. But SP flash show no progress. why??? I follow all steps very carefully. Or is it not possible to install lollipop if your phone already has marshmallow?

That means your phone was not detected. Power off your phone. Load scatter file and then click on download button on so flashtool. Put one end of USB cable to your phone. Hold volume down and simultaneously put other end of USB cable to computer. If its connected, the progress bar at bottom will show progress. I am assuming you have installed all drivers.
I hope this helps.

I had to fix a couple of bricked selfie phones (z00ud and z00udb but i assume this works on any selfie zd551kl model), that were probably bricked by autoflashing wrong firmware, so after spending a few days going thru many different tutorials, this is my tested method on how to fix them (or if you wanna get a cheap phone from taobao and turn it into a decent one), obviously it wasn't extensively tested, so take it as is . Some steps MIGHT be unnecessary but i didn't want to skip them as i was just glad i found a way how to get the phones to completely stable, latest firmware from useless paperweight.
A. if fone doesnt accept any firmware,or bricked,bootlooped etc. flash basic CN firmware, regardless is recovery WW or CN
- Instructions:
1. go to phone recovery (PWR button + VolDwn, release PWR on logo)
2. on phone select adb bootloader, it switches to fastboot mode (or hold PWR button + VolUp, release PWR on logo)
3. on PC unzip archive and start the autoflash .bat file
4. start the phone
files: archive (Asus Zenfone Selfie Z00UDB ZD551KL 3+16 here )
B. upgrade CN/WW firmare to latest version
- Instructions:
1. on PC install adb drivers
2. go to phone recovery (PWR button + VolDwn, release PWR on logo)
3. on phone select adb sideload
4. on PC, copy firmwares into adb folder
5. on PC go to adb folder and start cmd in that folder (shift+Rclk)
6. type adb devices to check connection, then adb sideload firmwarename.zip
7. start the phone
8. repeat all steps until latest CN/WW firmware is installed
files: adb drivers adb-setup-1.4.3 here , firmwares here(UL-Z00T-CN-1.13.40.661-user,UL-Z00T-CN-1.14.40.695-user,UL-Z00T-CN-1.15.40.1548-user)
C.swap CN firmware for WW, upgrade to Android 6
- Instructions: (also someone elses crappy YT video instructions here )
1. on PC install vc x86 and x64 redist packages for 2010,2012,2013 to prevent .ddl missing errors when running flashtool
1. on PC install asus flash tool
3. on fone turn on usb debugging in developer settings (click on about>sw info>build number)
4. turn off fone then start it in fastboot mode (hold PWR button + VolUp, release PWR on logo)
5. connect the fone to PC, start the autoflash .bat file from the firmware folder (CSC_ZD550KL_1_2_0_70_fac_eng_20150905_secure)
6. disconnect usb, wait for fone to reboot, then disconnect the battery on boot logo (remove back cover in advance)
7. return the battery, and start the fone again in fastboot mode, check for extra info on screen
8. on PC start the flashtool, connect the fone in fastboot mode, check if connected, select the model (ZD551KL), select wipe data
9. on PC, browse to firmware (WW_ZD551KL_1.15.40.1582-bsp-user-20160510203701-secured-release) in flashtool, click start, chose Yes for both options (wipe and image promt), wait until flashing is over
10. disconnect and start the fone
11. connect the fone to PC, copy the firmware (UL-Z00T-WW-21.40.0.1692-user) to internal memory or SD card and wait for the fone to recognize the package and auto-update to Android 6
12. connect the fone to PC, copy any newer firmware to internal memory or SD card (no need to copy next iteration or 2156 build, you can go to for ex. 2214 build right away) wait for the fone to recognize the package and auto-update to newer build of Android 6
files: vc redist packages here , firmwares (WW_ZD551KL_1.15.40.1582-bsp-user-20160510203701-secured-release here,CSC_ZD550KL_1_2_0_70_fac_eng_20150905_secure here), Android 6 firmwares here

Depending on your issues, you should pick the step you need, in case nothing works on your phone start with step A, otherwise start with the step that is appropriate for your problem.

not sure i understand, are you saying your phone is locked with the account from the previous owner ? if so then just do a factory reset from recovery and setup with your own account.

A how-to guide of restoring a completely bricked Redmi Note 9
Hi, In this guide, I will teach you how to fix a hard-bricked Redmi Note 9 (merlin) and bring it back to its original state.
How does a hard-bricked Redmi Note 9 look like? it's stuck in an infinite boot loop showing only the Redmi logo,
Can't access recovery with power+vol down, can't enter fastboot, can't connect it to a computer either.
If this is your phone here's how you can solve it without the need for service.
Following this guide keep in mind that everything would be erased from your phone including custom Recovery or ROM obviously. Also the bootloader would get locked again.
(I mean at this point you either have a useless brick or a working phone, you are choosing).
This is tested by me, and it works as long as you follow the steps carefully and you don't skip anything.
(I did this on Windows 10 btw)
You gonna need to download, Python and the official Xiaomi fastboot image for Redmi Note 9. Also the zip file I'm attaching bellow. the zip file contains the MTK Drivers, SP Flash Tool, and some additional scripts like MI auth bypass etc,
Get thefastboot image from here select your version (I picked the latest global) click download scroll down where it says "type:fastboot" and click "download: full Rom" the file name should look like this "merlin_images....tgz" or "merlin_global_images....tgz", etc, NOT miui_Merlin.zip,
Get python from the official website site, I tested it with 3.9.7 but the latest version should work fine. Now, you have all the necessary files to start.
Let the phone's battery die so the boot looping completely ends. (else you'll get error STATUS_EXT_RAM_EXCEPTION (0xC0050005) when using SP Flash Tool). ( I also tried it with a full battery and still worked so idk for sure how necessary this step is).
Install Python select the "add to PATH" option, you can test if it was installed correctly by opening cmd and writing "python" or "py" it should output the python version.
Extract the attached zip file and the fastboot image each into their folders.
Enter the MTK Driver folder Install the MTK Driver for MTK SP flash tool.MTK_Driver_Auto_Installer_SP_Drivers_20160804.exe, Reboot your computer.
Enter the python folder, run the "install pyusb pyserial json5.bat" when it's done close the terminal.
Enter the driver folder, this folder contains a USB to COM driver for MTK Devices, right-click the "cdc-acm.inf" click install.
Enter the libusb folder, run the libusb-win32-devel-filter-1.2.6.0.exe file, click next,next...install, when it's done it would prompt you to launch "filter installer wizard" click finish, when the wizard shows up, select "Install a device filter" it would show you your connected USB devices,
Get your phone and a USB cable, connect the USB cable to your computer,while holding the volume up button on your phone connect your phone to the computer (Based on community feedback you might need to hold both up and down volume buttons AND power button!) once your phone turns on you would see your phone listed as "MediaTek USB Port" at the libusb filter installer before your phone reboots click at the "MediaTek USB Port" and then click install if you don't do it on time, your phone will get disconnected because of rebooting, try again re-plugging your phone. once you click install, You should get a pop-up message saying "...device filter successfully installed for MediaTek USB port..." click ok and exit, then remove your phone from the computer.
Enter the bypass folder (This folder contains scripts to bypasses the Mi auth) double click the "1ST RUN THIS.bat" when it says "waiting for device" hold volume up and plug your phone into the computer (btw: You can let the button when it's recognized by the script). now most likely it would say "RuntimeError: unexpected output, expected 0xfd got 0xfe", if it does close the script and disconnect your phone, Try the "2ND RUN THIS.bat" when it shows "Waiting for device" hold volume up and connect your phone to the computer, wait till the console recognizes your phone, (At this part it might take few tries to make it work, try reconnecting your phone without holding any buttons or try holding volume down while reconnecting your phone) Once it gets recognized it would output "Found port = COM3" and Protection disabled. At this part your phone has stopped boot looping which is good but, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE, DO NOT DISCONNECT IT FROM THE COMPUTER, set your phone aside, and continue with the guide.
Enter the SP Flash Tool folder run the flash_tool.exe at the Download-Agent click choose and select the DA_6765_6785_6768_6873_6885_6853.bin file which is included in the SP flash tool folder.
At the Authentication File, click choose and select the auth_sv5.auth included in the SP flash tool folder.
At the Scatter-loading File, click choose, go to the fastboot image extraction folder (Step 4) then enter the images folder and select the MT6768_Android_scatter.txt file (Fastbootimage/images/MT6768_Android_scatter.txt)
On the drop-downbox below the "Authentication File" label change the option from Download Only to Firmware Upgrade.
At the toolbar above click Options -> Option... go to Connection check the UART option and set the Baud rate to 921600, make sure the com port option is set to com 3, then close the window.
Click Download with the green arrow, now wait till it finished flashing your phone this would take quite of time, at this part DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING LET IT FINISH TO AVOID ANY CURROPTION ON YOUR PHONE. (If you get "Error : STATUS_STOR_LIFE_EXHAUST" go to options-> general and uncheck Storage life cycle check).
When it's done it would show you a pop-up window "Download Ok" with a green background and a checkmark, click the X to close, and now you can also close the SP Flash tool app.
Disconnect your device from your computer and press the power buttonto start your phone, connect it to a charger or back to the computer since there was no charge so it won't die suddenly now.
Your phone now should boot normally showing the MIUI logo, because its first boot it would take few minutes for the phone to boot, wait patiently and you would see the "first setup" screen.
That's it! You successfully brought back to life a hard-bricked Redmi Note 9 (merlin). A huge weight now has lifted from you hf.

If you did step 9 it should recognize it, try to reboot your computer if you didn't already. Also your phone would be visible only for a second before it gets disconnected so you have to act fast.

Your window is 32 or 64 bit, I use windows 10 64 bit and did all step, one by one but no effect.
Finally, done it. I found this:
- Hold both vol up and down when plug in so the device recognize.
- You must choose right fastboot image (origin stock rom), if not devices can't boot in to miui rom cause bootloader locked after sp flash
And at last, thank you very much, you saved my day.

There's no qualcomm version of Redmi Note 9
i made a mistake,when i clicked to download the fastboot at the xiaomi site,i clicked the fastboot link to download,but i didnt see that it brings you to a page where it has all the downloads again,so i stopped the operation and restarted it with the correct scatter this time.
Now im waiting to see what will happen,how long does it usually take for the spflash to finish?
Also at the bottom of spflash where it says 0b/s,emmc etc. should it stay at 0 when you start the download?
edit:
managed to make it work,one important thing for me was at the option/option,had to select com port com 3

Thanks i updated the guide including this
i'm having an ERROR notification : STATUS_EXT_RAM_EXCEPTION (0xC0050005) help me
Looking for some info/help if possible: apologies i'm not trying to derail your thread.
I had bricked my RN9 but managed to unbrick and have it working ok now however I am wanting to restore it/lock the bootloader to allow for using banking apps. But I am encountering an issue. I had tried using MiFlash Tool but during the flash, I get a mismatch error and it doesn't succeed in flashing the Fastboot rom.
If i was to follow your guide from step 13, would this work for me? Or which steps do I need to skip in your list?
Thank you for any advice/help

Hi thanks a lot for your help. I accidentally flashed a redmi 10x miui 11, wanted to downgrade my Redmi 9 from 12.5, bad perfomance, resulting in your hard-bricked version. Flashing last fastboot version doesn't help, do i have a chance to fix it?

Hi and thanks for this detailed guide.
I bricked my merlin trying to root it (long history trying to get TWRP to stick)
I am now in the redmi logo loop and i am trying to follow this with great care.
however in the step above, no matter what I choose in "Yshasalger" page, i end up with a Recovery ROM and the file name contains the miui prefix as opposed to what you clearly state.
see image:
I am asking because i am scared of making more mistakes.
So i guess my question is if someone can check it happens to them (maybe the page changed since the writting of this guide)
If i should try with that ROM zip file or if there is another place i can get the proper one
I want to if possible to flash an older MIUI / Android than the latest 12 xxx / Android 11 as i find the phone to be really slow since the last OTA update.

however in the step above, no matter what I choose in "Yshasalger" page, i end up with a Recovery ROM and the file name contains the miui prefix as opposed to what you clearly state.

That's because you are choosing recovery and not fastboot, choose fastboot as type scroll down it has two links for recovery and for fastboot image. Check the file name

i promise i am choosing fastboot but it ends up in the recovery i have tried several different versions in case it was a file wrongly indexed.
TL|DR
Python errors, step 8 and 12 on Windows 10
Go to -> "start" and type "Manage App Execution Aliases". Go to it and turn off "Python"
=========================
Now read....
Just in case someone has trouble with step: 8
Escenario: the BAT file calls `python` and in some windows 10 this will result in a message about the windows store (Even if the path is added)
Python was not found; run without arguments to install from the Microsoft Store, or disable this shortcut from Settings
but `py` works, so just edit the BAT file and replace the call for `python` with `py` it will install all the python modules with no errors.
EDIT:
This also affects step: 12
Found a solution here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions...arguments-to-install-from-the-microsoft-store
Go to -> "start" and type "Manage App Execution Aliases". Go to it and turn off "Python"
The error:
After editing the BAT file replacing `python` with `py`
