Difference between ROMs - any with OTA updates? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
new OP3 owner here - coming from a Galaxy S2 running 6.0.1 and I have to say I just love the idea of 'unofficial' developers and they're doing SUCH a great job!
I just unpacked my device after the OP3T reveal and finding the upgrade isn't worth the money for me and now I have a few questions:
on my S2 I had not exactly the biggest variety of ROMs to choose from so I haven't had this problem before: I have no idea where the basic differences are between CM14.1, Freedom OS 1.10.0, AICP 7.1 and CypherOS 7.1
I know switching ROMs for a few days would be the safest way to say which suits me the best, but I'd like to have some info beforehand - the threads for those ROMs do list the features, but I honestly can't really see the difference most of the time.
So, if anyone here with quite some experience could say 1 "unique selling point"/special feature or what the ROM is known for in one sentence each, I'd be overly grateful
And another question: is there any ROM supportin OTA updates so one has not to flash the whole ROM again to get the next version of said ROM?
Thanks in advance for any advice incoming
Gwiel

CM14.1 - cyanogenmod itself
Freedom OS - based on stock oxygenos with additional mods
AICP 7.1 - based on CM14.1 with more features added
CypherOS 7.1 - based on AOSP with extra features
If you want to know the special features of those roms, go to their threads.
And I don't think incremental OTAs are supported.

Freedom OS and OOS is also based on AOSP, just to clarify

I would say AICP if you want just some extra features and OTA, in terms of updating I think AICP is the best. Although I never flashed CM so i don't know about OTA on CM.

Hydrogen, Oxygen, FreeDom. Official or CB, CE, best. You only dislike them if you are a CM fun.

Beginner help please - CyanogenMod 13 and questions

Hi there, I'm new to these threads and recently put cyanogenmod 12.1 on my nexus 7. I was surprised how clean and well optimized it ran so I was going to put cyanogenmod 13 on my HTC One M9.
So I was curious if there was anyone on these forums that had the time to answer some beginner questions.
1: I have carrier locked HTC One M9 from Australia, can I unlock and install Cyanogenmod 13?
2: How can I backup my original Rom?
3: Any recommendations?
Thank you in advance
Go into recovery and twrp has a backup button. Save it to your micro SD card
1. You will need to get S-OFF to be able to flash MM 3.xxx.xxx firmware to be able to run CM 13.
2. You need to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3066720
3. Read and read

Since I had a similar question to what's been posted here. I'm going to ask in this thread. I've been looking for non-sense(no pun intended) roms, for my phone and found that CM looks like something I'd like. However, all I've found are nightly builds. Is it a good idea to wait until there are some stable builds or are those nightly builds good enough? Been looking for non-sense roms all over, but it seems all the top ones are derived from sense, I'm just interested in getting as far away from stock as I possibly can.
Candy rom and CM are the only builds I've used on M9....
Candy is CM based and runs far better than stock CM nightly builds...
CM will get there...but for now I'm avoiding it...
Also...candy rom will run on 2.x firmware....and CM13 will not....g

Newbie here, just did my first root + got a custom rom (CM13) [if you're thinking of getting it now, please don't. I'm doing you a favor.]
However, releasing what nightly's are, im now wondering how stable is this 'Candy rom' you speak of?

Small question, if you will. Does CandySix bring all the features that CM does? By this I mean, root, the UI customizations such as menu colors, themes, and UI tweaks. I'm using ViperOne right now, and although I like its UI themes and colors a lot, I don't like Sense that much. I know this isn't all that related to the thread but I don't want to open up a new thread just to ask about this stuff.

Candy is far more feature rich than CM vanilla roms...
Give it a try...I think you'll like it...g
I will try it then, thanks for the help.

CUSTOM ROMS - Best one?

Hello!
The only Custom Rom I've tried is AICP and I really liked it, but since the project is dead (and I can't bare anymore the Chrome resizing bug). What is the best ROM you've tried by now? Considering the different aspects of them (stability, customization, whatever).
Also, any tips to don't lose my data between flashes? I'm too lazy to back up everything and I always keep forgeting something important.
I really want to switch now but not without some opinions first!
Thank you in advance

BeanStalk is and always will be my favorite rom because of all of the customization features and the weekly updates are sweet as well. I can almost guarantee you will like it. Here's a link to the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/rom-kernel-beanstalk-6-07-t3313835
Now I use Dirty Unicorns - many features, customization. Cyanogenmod - official, stable. I like BrokenOS and AOSP-CAF but their apps are very old.
I like Resurrection Remix Rom. It is stable and fast. Amazing customization and so many features.

HAZY ROM

so i just finished speaking with a dev from hazy rom. they are willing to make a new version of hazy rom, version m- n i believe if we can find someone to maintain it. i am unable to as i wouldnt know where to begin but i have copied the link incase anyone would like to speak with him about this rom.
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communi...3/stream/c6b645aa-520a-4076-83ab-1d07fd7da6dc
I remember using hazy rom on android 5 for this phone. New version would be great.
I think it would be hard to find someone who can maintain this as most of the old developers have new devices now and the others are busy supporting their roms. But let's see if someone comes forward
--
well one of the old devs is just waiting for me to reach out to him about a maintainer then they will build the rom for us since they are already on 6.0 with their other devices so yes i hope someone can step up to the task at hand. unless everyone likes using only 3 main roms. rr nameless and cyanogen ( other roms like du and omni or crdroid are nice but i like customization )

Clearly you never use DU and CrDroid. CM is just a base rom. You are right about Omni because they didn't aim for customization.

Finding the best rom

Hi there, I'm looking for one rom 64 Bit. I don't have time for tested all the roms so I need something stable. I'll be aware of your recommendations. THX
I recommend either AOSP Extended or LineageOS 15.1 (LOS is unofficial, however)
Remember to install 64bit twrp.
I also recommend AOSP Extended since it's well known and also an official build. Using it right now, it's fine. dotOS may be an option for you too if you fancy the look of Android P.

Message to developers - Please update ROMs

AOSP extended and Resurrection Remix we have is outdated now, please update it. There are lots new feature in newer builds. I hope someone do it. Please make it stable too, I really want to use these ROMs as daily driver. The only reason I'm using stock ROM is due to stability but AOSP we have by Alberto is stable as hell too. And AOSP is the only one I find stable to use as daily driver but it lacks features as in AOSP extended or Resurrection Remix.
So please if anyone can update these ROMs and make them stable I'd be very happy and i think whole community would be happy too.
If this is too much to ask then you can ignore me. I know it takes time and resources to build a stable ROM and not many devs are working on MZP and this device is getting old too. But at least make a last stable ROM with full of features as in AOSP extended or Resurrection Remix. I think Moto has already given up on this phone as we don't have any new security update either.
Thank you.

How can you say that when Android 8.0 w/April 2018 security patch was recently released for the Moto Z Play?

Yes, I want to but unfortunately I don't have resources to do that. A 8-core computer and a fast internet with no data cap. These main things are the one that stopping me. I don't have much knowledge of coding but I've learned how to compile rom from the internet but still I need resources.

We already have 2 major updates as all Moto phones have gotten in the past. Considering the following trend, I don't think we'll get another major update maybe one or two security updates but it's still not confirmed. And this is just my assumption, if we're lucky we might get Android P.

How about you update them yourself or have some patience? Developers aren't here to cater to your needs. Most developers do this as a hobby and only choose to share the fruits of their labor. Show some courtesy.

I already said that I don't have resources to compile one otherwise I'd be making lots of ROMs. And I'm not forcing anyone just asking. I already wrote in the post to ignore me if this is too much to ask. Don't get the wrong idea, I'm asking for update because other phones like Redmi Note 4 is having same chipset but it's constantly updated with newer builds. I was just wondering if devs "would like to" update MZP custom ROMs too. I am trying to Port some ROMs from RN4 to MZP as this is the only thing I can do with my crappy PC. I want to make a contribution too if possible. Again I'm not forcing anyone just asking. Sorry if you think asking for ROMs is bad too.
