apps always reset after battery going and rebooting - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

when my battery goes alot of my apps reset to a state as if they have all data deleted or just installed. for instance if my spotify or steam is logged in when i reboot or have the phone off too long when i reboot it will ask me for my paswords again, alot of apps seem to do this my pebble watch is the same, I have this issue on stock htc rom and stock google rom too both marshmallow.

Rule #1 of XDA: search before posting
This is a common and known issue.

Try different rom just don't let the battery die. Avoid restarting the device also.

From what I've read it seems any Marshmallow ROM on this device can exhibit this behavior. As such, I'm thinking about trying a Lollipop based ROM since it's happened to me a number of times (since upgrading to MM).

only happen on stock MM i think, so to avoid this, when my phone dies, i let it charge for 10 min, and boot to recovery, then form recovery boot to system and theres no issue, try it.

[Q] Nexus stuck in reboot loop (what to do?)

I felt my nexus reboot during class today(it was in my pocket) and then it got stuck in a reboot loop, it freezes during boot animation and starts over.
I have tried to pull out the battery, to do a cold boot as well.
It is rooted, and i followed one of the early tutorials to do so (i don't remember exactly which).
Is there anything i can do without loosing my data(no backup, i know, stupid me).
Can i try to reset the bootloader for example?
I have also received 3 system updates the last week, assumable from samsung, (yakjuxw). But it hasn't increased my android version. I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem, but i feel like i should mention it.
+1 on this too...i was checking my messages this morning and it just rebooted. havent had this ever happen to me, no matter wiping, reflashing, restore....nothing works...just keeps rebooting at google screen 4 or 5 times...then it just stays on the screen, phone starts to heat up too.
Same here, I installed Chrome bate last night. Did you guys do the same? I wonder if it is the cause of the problem.
i did try out chrome beta yesterday, but ended up uninstalling it. im on a ir10 modaco kitchen rom with a 1.35ghz oc custom kernal.
I am on stock rom without root.
I found the below and it scares me. Looks like there isn't any fix...

i am pretty sure if you reset the bootloader it will wipe everything. just go into recovery and do a factory reset (last option of course).
I installed google chrome earlier today aswell.
I have now tried to restore from an earlier nandroid backup, but it fail at the \data stage.
Factory reset didnt help either.
edit:
However, i was able to pull data using adb. Saved my images atleast.
also: i have clockworkmod v5.5.0.2
Do you have the SDK installed on your pc? If so, you should connect it and run ddms. You can then watch the log and see where your phone is crashing. Maybe that would give a starting point to what is wrong.
I start ddms, and my phone pops up under devices witha nomber as name, ther after '??' and 'unknown' nothing else. This is when my phone is in clockworkmod recovery . it disappears when i try reboot.
Hmmm that's weird. You might have to try flashing the stock images in fastboot.

The information provided by you is not sufficient. There are some points i would like to know about.
Have u rooted your device?
Are you flashing through ODIN?
ROM version?
Did you make data wipe/ cache wipe before flashing over a previous firmware?
There are many threads associated with this.So please take a look over that.If you don't find answer then we are here to help you

Thanks for Calling me "Sir". But seriously no need to say it. Say it to real developers.
Now coming to the topic,
For your information, keep in mind that when u flash the Official firmware through ODIN, You loose the root access.
Don't restore any backup. Just flash through ODIN. After flashing Wipe Cache and Data wipe is recommended too.
To gain the root access again you need to flash recovery from ODIN.
Other members looking at this this thread please correct me if i am wrong .I still not getting which backup the guy is talking about.

oh sorry sir, i'll make it clear, my last firmware is 4.2.2 and my rom is GENNEXT, but when i encounter the problem, i tried to go back and flash the 4.1.2 stock firmware, then later i discovered that i have a backup from my previous rom(GENNEXT running 4.2.2 firmware) so i flash again the 4.2.2 stock firmware and flash the philz touch recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache then restore the back up, then my phone is restored but theres another problem sometimes the screen blinks and the phone reboots in a few minutes after the startup.

OK. Then it may be the problem with your GENNXT ROM cause the problem occured after restoring Backup.Try the fresh install of latest build of GENNXT rom.

i already tried it sir but it didnt solve the problem, it passes the setup but after a few minutes the phone reboots.
You might want to try one of the AOSP-based ROMs (CM11/Slimkat/Carbon/Omni/ProBAM) and see if it fixes the issue. If it still reboots even after installing one of those ROMs, then you probably has a faulty hardware. If it stops rebooting, then you probably has a corrupted installation of stock firmware...
Faulty hardware = get it to a service center, but be prepared to pay some bucks because you have already lost your warranty...
Corrupted stock firmware = try to flash the firmware again via Odin but DON'T RESTORE ANY BACKUP. If it still reboots, redownload the firmware package and reflash.
I'm not an expert, but I figured that your phone is already unusable by constant rebooting... let's just solve it by trial and error.

This is probably the best explained and most direct definition of what to do and what may be happening with our ever-rebooting Grands.... Thank you!!!
Had to create an account to thanks naufalhadyan
I was running on LineAgeOS 13.0 for a while until yesterday, when I went to install some random play store app and it crashed then went on a infinite rollercoaster with absolutely no fun making loops every time it got of the boot animation, did a factory reset, on the 2nd or 3rd app it crashed and looped, flashed another .zip with the rom, same, installed an RRemix on the same version (I like the 6) and when installing another random playstore it crashed the same way, now i'm on a AOSP 6.0 flashed from the recovery and so far i've been downloading the entire play store (just for kicks) and its smooth.
I don't use come to this troubleshooting section but on the last 24 hours there were some major bugs regarding endless loops, maybe a play store update came bugging our grand duos'? Is that even possible?

Even iam facing the same issue
phone reboots automatically and doesnt even start... infinite bootloop. Was working fine and suddenly this issue came up from nowhere(past 2 weeks) ..
Iam using Resurrection rom 5.7.4 (Marshmallow)
Damn I was on AICP 11, when this exact strange bootloop problem occurred for no rhyme and reason. I know the hardware is fine, the issue arises from installing apps from playstore, the moment it goes beyond a certain app limit in the device, it will start endless bootloop, I am sure this is Google's doing. Anyways this is not a hardware issue and I know more people will be coming here looking for answer to this issue. I have tried both the opengapps and deltagapps, same behaved this way, it never happened before and lately google have introduced one other app which is google's android instant app that will sit in your device, even though you need it not not. very well google for using our precious internal data to around 500Mb to 1Gb.
formating data partition solves this issue, temporarily but you lose your apps and data.
I had successfully avoided this issue when I stopped installing more apps on my device, It took me 2 tries and I found a perfect balance of 4-5 apps, it came crashing again when I tried installing the 7th app.
I don't know if other ROMs will be able to handle this bug, but I know it's time for me to look for another ROM, I was happy with AICP 11, for more than a year. Sad.
Reading about this issue, I came to know this is prevalent on all CM marshmallow based ROMs. So, going to flash Nougat or kitkat or the stock ROM should probably fix this.
Try a new battery.

Think my note died in less then a month

a run down of my time line

Try this, if you have an external SDcard remove it and see if that solves the problem.
If the phone detects some issues with external sdcard, sometimes it can lead to bootlooping.
Once the external sdcard is removed, do another odin flash AFTER doing a full wipe
in TWRP including factory reset before Odin flashing the official stock firmware.
After flashing the official odin flash firmware, don't root the phone yet.
If it works properly after doing the above, turn off wifi and data and just use the phone
normally for a couple hours, rebooting it once in a while just to see see if it still bootloops.
Turn off the auto-updating in google playstore and update one app at a time,
and DON'T restore any apps by using titanium or any other backup app to
make sure that none of your backed up apps are the culprit.
Good luck!

You mean overheating causing hairline cracks in lead free solder or something else? I'm sure your phone is not scratching discs.
If overheating becomes a problem, then I would have to come up with some fix.

[Q] My M8 turned sucks after lollipop update..

I rooted my m8 on stock android 4.4.4 and since the lollipop update rolled out, I applied my backup from TWRP and flashed stock recovery then relocked bootloader. Installed Lollipop via OTA, unlock bootloader and flashed TWRP then flashed supersu. So I'm on android lollipop 5.0 and rooted. I don't know what went wrong, my phone seem too laggy ( mostly when I'm trying to type on facebook messenger, every times i type a text it stacks for some times) And most importantly, some stocks application such us HTC sense TV and Scribble not working anymore. every time I open, it say " stopped unexpectedly ". I don't really know what I might do to get it fix, please advice me.
I have the same problem, basically. I have an unrooted, completely stock phone that got updated through OTA. Ever since the update the phone is lagging, the battery life is visibly worse, and the only visible change is the color of the quick settings and the appearance of notifications. Lots of people are excited and eager to update to Lollipop, but based on my experience I really regret updating. I wish there was an easy way to revert to 4.4.4, but unfortunately it takes too much time which I don't have at the moment. So I decided to wait till May, when Sense 7 is supposed to arrive to M8.
Many of the initial problems with Lollipop were solved by factory reset, but certainly not all. It remains to be lagging and frustrating. At least it's free. But on the other hand, if I bought it, I would certainly return it and ckaimed a refund. As it is, I just have to suffer through it.

ႈI guess, there only way to switch back to stock totally is to s-off but I am not sure if we can still apply nondroid back up of 4.4 stocks might work on lollipop loaded device. its so annoying ^_^
Facebook and Facebook Messenger simply have issues. The big problem is that when sounds are enabled in those apps they lag terribly running ART. ART is probably the reason why you're having issues with other apps, which would be remedied by a factory reset and reinstalling all the apps. I don't see any reason why you'd need to be s-off to flash back to a nandroid backup of 4.4. The only possible issue I could imagine you having would be compatibility issues with firmware, and I think that would require you to be s-off to revert back to, but I think 4.4.4 should work with 5.0 firmware. Can't say for certain though since I'm on Verizon and I'm not sure what carrier you're on, but I'm running 5.0.1 on 4.4.4 firmware. I've run several Sense 6 5.0.1 ROMs and they have been just as fast and even more battery efficient than 4.4.4.
You could always flash a Kit-Kat ROM while you wait for Google to address those bugs with the next release. You don't have to S-Off to go back to the older firmware if you don't want to.
If you want to stay stockish, I recommend Maximus HD.
My phone is turning worst and worst, now i can't even screenshot due to luck of storage it says. So I don't have to s-off to roll back ? All these issues are due to Android L or could it be becoz of me, I flash old TWRP ( 2.7). One more things, I do I flashed my local font on HTC ? I use all fontchangers and I even flash it via fastboot but it doesn't seem overwrite. I can't install busybox too.

Most of your issues are not Android L related but more on user side. Make a backup of your current ROM on ext_sd, make a backup of your internal storage to ext_sd or PC.
Change your TWRP version to 2.8.5.0
In TWRP select WIPE then FORMAT DATA - yes
Reboot recovery
Restore your backup

for me on lollipop on the m8. lot of features did not seem to work. like the nfc, screen rotation, g sensor, flashlight, and proximity sensor. so i tried to goto a custom rom and it still didnt work. anyone else have this problem?
For lag removing, disable Nu player in developper options.
As per the rest.. my M8 kicks ass using completely stock lollipop 5.0.1
No lags, no FCs, no misbehaving.

Try a factory reset. And run it with only the apps that come installed for 24 hours. If it still reboots its a hardware failure. If it doesnt reboot then some software you had on it was causing a crash.

I had a pixel xl rebooting 2-3 times a day, did exactly this, reboots persisted... Was within 14 days and got the phone swapped out. New phone does not have any reboot issues.
Pretty much any phone that I restore my last backuo from marshmallow causes not stop reboots. When I got Nouget on my 6p somehow the restore screwed something up. When I got my pixel there were 2 dates to restore from. One from my 6p prior to Nouget, and one from Nouget that was a clean install from scratch. The pre 7 restore caused the pixel to reboot constantly just as it had the 6p.
I noticed my phone restarted and the date was set to Jan 1st 1970 while it was in my pocket. I did a adb bugreport but could not find anything. I did find this line though check_reboot_mode: restart_reason: 0x00000000. Does the phone ask for pin only when it restarts? I have fingerprint based authentication setup but it still asks for pin from time to time, now I am wondering if those were restarts.

It's generally a good idea not to restore a backup from a previous major system iteration. Anytime a new generation is introduced, one should do a clean install, as you noted in your last sentence. There are potentially a lot of system changes that can cause conflicts.

Hello,
I had the same issue with the most recent Verizon update on my wife's Pixel. There seems to be a lot of people with Pixels having this issue as well. I needed to return it for a new one...Verizon is aware of the issue as they did not hesitate to replace the unit.
Cheers
Helpful tip, hopefully.
If you want to test the effect of installed apps, Pixels can boot into "safe mode," where installed apps are disabled temporarily. Press and hold power button to open a reboot menu, then press and hold "Power off" button. A menu will open to allow booting into "safe mode."

Do you have any apps under beta? I was using around 6-8 apps in beta, I unsubscribed out of the beta and reinstalled all the apps. My phone stopped rebooting.
P.S. My phone was rebooting even under safe mode!
