Is there any way to flash Gapps on the Pixel without a recovery?
Substratum is working for the Pixel XL now (mostly) and alot of themes require team blackout G apps because they are themable
Last I looked, those team blackout gapps were mostly apk's and the whole thing was a nightmare to figure out how to install because some stuff was zip, others were apks and blahhhh. I gave up on it.
Either way, you just need to unzip any zips and grab the apk's you want and push to their relevant folder structures.

I really would love a basic ROM of the stranded ROM. No stocks, footprints,Facebook, twitter. Etc
Is there such a thing ?
Not too sure if you can get a Sense ROM without those.
I keep looking in at the ROM development stuff, but to me its all to much tech speak Guess I'm getting to old. And some threads have 12,000+ posts to wade through.
Does it need to be Sense? Have you tried any AOSP ROMs?
Oxygen is a great, clean and fast ROM based on AOSP.
just download the ROM.zip open it with WinRAR and delete .apk of the files that you dont want.

And if you're lucky, it might boot

look for the rom editor on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122372
it is a little tool for removing apk's that you don't want and adding some that you do - it's nice for if you don't feel brave enough to start wading through the zip yourself
you can't remove all sense - as then you'd just have AOSP anyway - but you can remove a lot of junk you might not want like teeter, stocks, peep etc.
So yeah, like stated in the title, I made two updaterscripts to get the Market (Google Play 3.8.17 and its apk requirements, but no other GApps) for pretty much any Gingerbread/Jelly Bean based ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32335631#post32335631
I'm currently using the gb package on a 2.26.401.3 debloated stock rom and I've also stated what files you need if you just want to delete the unwanted stuff from the CM-GApps packages yourself.
Also, the updaterscripts do not delete all the gapp apks prior to pushing the new ones to system/app, so remember to clean up according to the filelist - applying on any cm install without gapps should work fine, cause thats what those zips are actually meant for
If you find this useful, drop me a line and/or repost it on other not-so-high-end device forums
Hey everyone, I've always been a huge fan of inverted apps. With 4.2.1 coming out it seems there is a much longer delay in ROMs coming out. There are some inverted gapps packages though and I want to add some to a ROM.
I am currently running (or will be running) Xylon 011 Beta 3. I've tried JustUnBean's gapps package but it causes my phone to get constant FC's. Through some playing around (flashed JustUnBean and then gapps package dated 20121130) I managed to get a working ROM but it added a bunch of stuff I didnt want.
If I was to manually edit the Xylon 11 Beta 3 zip file and manually swap in the .apks of the inverted apps I want would that essentially give me inverted apps or would I be running into just as many issues?
Also does anyone know of a good inverted ROM with 4.2.1 yet? Many suggest to just use an inverted gapps package which is all well and good but one of the primary apps I like to have inverted is the calendar. I am able to flash the old inverted version of calendar in the meantime though.
Anywho just thought I'd ask the question.
Thanks!

justins gapps worked fine for me.. i tried them on pa and xylon, but since 4.2 i have been using this theme instead of inverted gapps.. and if you want you can edit the gapps package yourself, delete apps you dont want and add apps that you want

Yeah turns out I was a little too anxious with JustUnBean's gapps... using the Aroma installer worked perfectly!
I did try editing his gapps package but it almost always ended up in FCs or a phone that wouldnt boot. For some reason I thought that Aroma was another recovery and didnt realize it was an installer app.
I am sitting pretty with the Xylon 011 Beta 3 and all the stuff inverted that I wanted (Calendar is never themed in user themes)
A lot of developers (but not all, of course) have moved on to the latest and greatest Nexus phone. Expect a few key ROMs to either get sporadic updates or fall off the face of the earth. It happens to every phone as it ages, sadly.
I haven't seen much either in the way of inverted apps, so keeping an eye on this.
I have tried pulling the APK out of the rom zip and installing it, but the installation fails. I have also tried manually putting the apk in my apps folder, also does not work.
Any suggestions? I love the extension separator option and different colors for the background... but I prefer to use Danvd's 4.4.2 GE build.

"Well slims version is a mix from original dashclock + the one which was posted here by syned + our additions lol. Whatever it is not installable due that we have trds and it will only work on ROMs which support that. The hell I did not have time till now to push our changes to Roman. Will try to do it finally next week so roman can decide what he want or not. We tried to keep his style in "our" dashclock."
Reply from SlimRom team.
What you will need:
Basic tools
- Notepad++
- ZIP manager tool like 7zip
Advanced tools
- Cygwin
- smali (assembler/disassembler)
- APKTool/APK Multi-tool
Lets Begin:
Download a ROM (we use CM in this guide) of your choice (don’t forget to get the permissions for it modding from the developer) and extract it. When you extract it, you will see at least two folders and one file
Folders
- system
- META-INF
Files
- boot.img [this is not present in defy/defy+ ROMs so don't worry about it ]
NOTE THAT I AM ONLY GIVING DETAILS ABOUT THOSE FOLDER WHICH YOU CAN REMOVE/EDIT
THE \system\bootmenu\2nd-boot\ FOLDER
In this folder you'll find the kernel [zImage] file of the ROM here you can change it with the one you compiled or by others.
The Tts folder
The ‘TTS folder’ is all about Text-To-Speech. It contains all the files needed by the Android system to get Text-To-Speech working. If you are removing the TTS feature from your ROM, make sure you remove this entire folder and the TTS related apps from the ‘system folder’, as this will save a lot of space.
The WiFi and Usr folders
The WiFi folder contains the drivers required by the WiFi module to function. So i strongly recommend NOT to touch this folder. If you delete any file from this folder, you will mess up the WiFi functionality.
The usr folder contains some miscellaneous but very important stuff. It may contain anything and everything needed by the Android operating system. For instance, this folder contains all the key-mapping. If such files are messed with, your device will be non-functional although it will boot.
The Build.prop
The build.prop file is pretty self-explanatory. Here, you can change the most basic things, like the android version that setting shows. Wondered how people are making 2.3.4 look like 4.0.3 in settings? Its build.prop. Also, you can change what ‘About phone’ shows here.
Other things, you can change things like, how long your wifi scans, how much battery your phone saves while in sleep, Dalvik VM heapsize and default ringtones. If you are wondering what # stands for, it signifies that, the particular line is commented out, and the system does not read it. You can use it add comments to the build.prop. This helps others understand, what is the function of a particular tweak.
A guide for some basic build.prop tweaks can be found here.
Please be aware that, these build.prop modifications are not universal. So, you will have to experiment with the tweaks and their values.
The META-INF folder
This folder contains instructions for the Android Recovery about how to work with the files present in the zip. This folder contains many folders, but the only one we need to edit is the update-script file.
Making Flashable ZIP
In order to create a flashable zip, first zip the ‘system, META-INF’ folder and the ‘boot.img’. Let’s name this zip as ‘update.zip’. Next we need to sign the zip. Get a signer here. Put your update zip in the same folder as the signer. Then run the ‘signer.bat’ file. This will sign your zip file. After the signing process is complete, you can change the name of the zip to your liking.
